Prelude: Hello again! Hope you're having a good Veteran's Day, whether you have a family member who served or are just using it for a day off from school. Before we begin, I'd just like to make a small update on the Question of the Week: since my stories are still slowly getting recognition, there will no longer be deadlines, so you can answer them whenever you want, as long as it's in the chapter it originated from! Now then, let's get started!

SPACEHOG FROM MOBIUS III:
CHAOS HAVEN II

Previously...after an incident caused Sonic to be haunted by his guilt over causing a war in another dimension, Tails decided to debut his newest invention, which can change the size of his model DeLorean Time Machine replica, to take his mind off of it. They returned to Whisker Haven to test it out, but while they weren't looking, some of the Palace Pets and Ms. Featherbon stowed away, and the Flux Capacitor was destroyed in the confusion.

Now...the group, alongside Sonic and Tails' new ally Kirby, who had been recruited from another dimension, enter the Whisker Haven of the past to look for a source of electricity.

Chapter 3:
Ec-static-al!

Walking around the Whisker Haven of the past, Sonic and Tails felt exactly like they did when they explored the past versions of Mobotropolis in their previous experiences with the DeLorean. There were more medieval-like locations, including a town square market, a longhouse, and a blacksmith shop. Ms. Featherbon was just as nostalgic, and Kirby and the Palace Pets were also impressed. "I thought Whisker Haven looked awesome already," said Sultan, "but this is pretty cool, too!"

"It doesn't look like there's any electrical things, though," said Kirby, staring up at the lightposts. Electrical sparks were the only thing he could think of to obtain the Spark ability.

"I've done a bit of research," commented Tails, "and it looks like whenever something strikes metal, sparks fly!"

"What about that shop right over there?" asked Treasure, pointing at the blacksmith shop. A goat was hammering a crown on an anvil.

"Ah, yes! The blacksmith!" said Ms. Featherbon. "That was where I had crowns forged!"

[BGM: End]

The group walked into the shop as the blacksmith admired some of his work. "Excuse me," asked Sonic. He decided it was best to be as honest as he could. "We're trying some kind of electrical experiment. Do you think you could generate sparks of some kind?"

"Why, sure, I'll try," said the blacksmith, "but I can't use any of these already made crowns. I'll have to use a bent one."

"What if I use mine?" proposed Pumpkin. She took off her tiara and bent it, causing it to fold in a way not unlike Samsung's new fold-phone.

"I'll see what I can do," said the blacksmith. He put the tiara on his anvil and started hammering it. Unfortunately, the sparks were not big enough for Kirby to inhale. And Sonic was getting a little impatient.

"Oh, for crying out loud!" the hedgehog eventually shouted. He jumped onto the anvil and began to charge a Spin Dash on the tiara. There were a lot of sparks coming out, and Kirby tried inhaling every single one of them.

Sonic kept going until the crown seemed straight enough. It looked just like Pumpkin never tampered with it. Sadly, the sparks were fruitless and Kirby didn't transform.

"Uhh, sorry about that," said Sonic, placing the tiara back on Pumpkin's head. "I just got impatient."

"Don't be!" said the blacksmith, jollily. "That was faster than I ever could!"

The party walked out of the shop in disappointment. "Well that was nothing but chapter filler!" grumbled Tails.

Pumpkin began thinking about the carpeting in Dreamy's room in the Pawlace. "You don't suppose they had any shag carpeting at this point?"

"Well, considering we are already technologically ahead of the princesses," said Ms. Featherbon, "probably. Let's check the market square."

Right in the square, there was a sheep who was making rather luxurious carpeting. "Excuse me, ma'am," said Treasure, "you wouldn't have any shag carpeting, would you?"

The sheep held up a newly-knitted red shag carpet. "Would this suffice?" she asked.

"Yeah, that might work!" said Sultan. He grabbed the carpet, placed it down, and he and Tails walked up to the carpet. While the tiger cub began rolling around on it, the fox charged up a Spin Dash, appearing to become an orange ball of fur. After a few minutes, they stood up, but their fur hadn't comically become inflated. Rather, the sparks on them seemed to be visible.

[BGM: Akira Miyagawa - Special Ability is Inhaled!]

"Alright, this oughta work!" Kirby took a deep breath and ran in place. He leapt forward and opened his mouth, beginning to inhale. Holding on tight to the walls, Tails and Sultan felt the electricity coming off of them. When Kirby finally stopped, he swallowed and his head caught blue fire briefly before it turned into a spark field. A headband appeared around it and Kirby's usual pink color changed to green.

He was now Spark Kirby!

"Woah," said the sheep. "So this is what electricity can do!"

"Uhh…not really," said Sonic. "But we'll let you discover what it can do on your own."

"Thank you for your help," said Treasure, shaking the sheep's hand, "but we have to go now."

The rest of the group said their goodbyes and began walking back to the DeLorean. When they arrived, Tails took out his wind-up car and placed it on the ground. "Okay, Kirby," he said, "do your stuff!"

Kirby created a spark barrier around himself. He held his hands high and converted it into a ball, which he threw at the car. It seemed to explode with life as its battery instantly charged.

"Woah!" said Tails in awe as the car jumped to life. "What an explosion. Figuratively, of course," he hastily added. "Anyone got a piece of paper and a pen?"

Kirby squatted and a green star burst out of his body, reverting his appearance to normal. "Here you go," he said, handing an inexplicable sheet of paper and pen to Tails.

The fox inputted some five-dimensional coordinates on the car's underside, laid on the ground, and wrote the following message to Uncle Chuck:

"Dear Uncle Chuck,

It's me, Tails. It's a long story, but me and Sonic have returned to that Whisker Haven place and are stuck in the past. If it's alright, come pick us up in the DeLorean. Our five-dimensional coordinates are [STUFF ONLY A SCIENTIST CAN READ]. Hope to see you soon!

Once he was finished, Tails folded up the paper, placed it into some sort of container, and wound up the key on the back. "Okay, everyone! Stand back!" he shouted as he bent down and let go of the car. Everyone watched as the toy car vanished in a quick flash.

"So that's all I'm here for?" said Kirby, unimpressed. "To disintegrate a toy car?"

"Relax, the car's fine!" said Tails.

"So, where the heck did it go?" asked Kirby.

"I believe the correct question is when the heck did it go!" said Ms. Featherbon.

"If all went well," said Sonic, "Tails just sent it about a minute into the future and into our dimension. My uncle should be here any minute!"

[BGM: Alan Silvestri - Burn the Book]

Shortly afterwards, more blue flashes appeared, and another DeLorean appeared out of nowhere. "Woah! Where did that come from?" shouted Kirby.

The door opened, and Sonic's Uncle Chuck hopped out. He looked around and noticed the others. "Ahh, it's nice to see you four again," he said, referring to Pumpkin, Treasure, Sultan, and Ms. Featherbon. "And who may this be?" he said to Kirby.

"This here's Kirby," introduced Sonic. "He's the guy I teamed up with when our worlds merged a few weeks ago."

"Pleased to meet you," said Kirby, shaking the scientist's hand.

"Okay, let's just get these guys back to the future before anything bad happens," said Tails. He took out the size-changer, shrunk his model DeLorean back to its normal size, and put it in his pocket.

"Woah, this is pretty high-tech!" said Kirby in awe as the rest of the group piled into the car.

Uncle Chuck set the date to the present time and started the DeLorean, putting it into hover mode. "Y'know," said Sonic as they began to fly, "this chapter didn't seem very high-staked. It's almost like something bad happened behind the scenes."

He was in for a surprise when the DeLorean reached 88 MPH and vanished…

[Current Time: July 13, ?, 12:12 PM]

Whisker Haven did not look like itself when the heroes returned. Rather than the bright, cheerful world the Palace Pets were used to, it was grim, with an eternally black sky, fog and smoke, a metallic landscape, and not a single living soul. And in the Pawlace's place was a metallic fortress.

"Alright, yep. This is exactly what I was talking about," said Sonic, looking out the window. "Sorry for jinxing it, guys!"

"What happened?" cried Ms. Featherbon. "Have we accidentally caused the butterfly effect I've heard about?"

"Chuck! Watch out!" cried Tails. A cannon was pointing right at them. A bullet fired at the DeLorean and made impact, causing it to suddenly spiral head-first into a manure truck.

Everyone began to scream, except for Sonic and Chuck, who gave a much coarser "Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii-"

End of part one...next time: a Whisker Haven ruled by robots?

Next chapter: "Breaking the Fortress" The next act of the story begins! Sonic and Tails have successfully returned the Palace Pets to the present, but at what cost? If changes to the space-time continuum were money, then a sudden influx of robots and metal everywhere would be a million dollars! What caused this to happen, and more importantly, is this error reversible?

Postface: Chapter complete! This chapter is what I considered to be the conclusion of 'part one' of the story, hence the special ending of this chapter. Part one was where the story and characters were established, and the next part will show the main stakes of the story.

Trivia time! The beginning of this chapter is one of those 'Mr. Sandman' sequences from the movies. You know, when Marty walks around the version of Hill Valley he ended up in? As for Kirby obtaining the Spark ability, the sequence is modeled after the one from the Kirby: Right Back at Ya! anime, right down to the way he inhales. And finally, Whisker Haven has completely changed! How? Well, remember Metal Sonic's appearance the last couple of chapters?
