"The moon."
"Moon's haunted."
"huh?"
"I said..."
"I *know* what you said but what?"
"Ummm...nevertmind. It's an inside joke."
"oookay."
a short pause, then red, the Warlock, turned to her teammate. "Do you mean the Hive?"
Lavender sighed, facepalming. "Yes, Red, I mean the Hive." She shook her head. Her Ghost popped up, using a channel only Lavender could hear "And sometimes I think you're really dense."
Lavender glared at the 'dense' comment, but didn't comment back, lest her teammate hear it.
The ship went to transwarp, and a few seconds later they were in orbit over the moon.
They teleported down and Lavender sighed "Here we go again..."
::five years previous::
Lavender backed up her sparrow and tried to turn around before a dozen or so more shots pinged off her armor and sparrow. She sped a little bit in the other direction, wondring how her companions had gotten around the hive so easily. Then she spotted the rocks.
She gunned her engine and aimed for the angled boulder just to the right of the Knight.
The sparrow made contact and the shriek of metal on rock echoed behind her as the Hunter went airborn. She let off the throttle a little to turn down the winding path without hitting the canyon walls, then replied "Hang on, I'm coming!"
she hit the turbo-boost, and realised as she made the tight turn left there was a low barrier. And a drop off.
AAAUGH DANGIT YOU GUYS, SERIOUSLY, AGAIN!"
both the others were laughing at her, she just knew it.
As she reappeared, she gave them both a glare through her helmet. The Titan shook her head. "Rookie."
"Shut up, Quantum."
"That's, like, the third time this week you've done that."
"Shut up, Red."
As she summoned her sparrow and sped ahead of them, she could be heard muttering "They should put up a sign or something."
Quantum cut in with "What, falling Rookies ahead"
"Ha Ha. Very funny."
Red suggested "They could put in a stoplight."
"Do those even exist anymore?"
Lavender sighed. "I was thinking something that read "sudden drop ahead."
::present moment::
The pair teleported down and Red hefted a rocket launcher. Lavender did a double-take. "Seriously? you sure that's not a..." she stopped short, about to say "Quantum moment." But Quantum (Amari Quentin) had been lost in the Red War.
Three years ago, the trio (and Lavender's daughter, Hope) had been making their way through the Tower's hangar when an explosion sent Red and Quantum out of the main opening. Altaira Rediston (Red) made it, but Amari Quentin (Quantum) never reappeared. She was later counted as one of the Guardians lost during the red war.
::PRESENT MOMENT:: Lavender looked over at Red, then the group of Hive in front of them. Lavender muttered " Oh f##k me." then glanced at Red. Red grinned inside her helmet.
"Screw you, Red."
(It was Red's favorite phrase)
The Warlock (Red) cackled, and did a jump-glide into the mob of enemies in front of them. "You coming, Lavender?" she teased.
Lavender made a noise. "Of course I'm coming. buuuuuut. You know there's a reason I allways let you run into the fight first, right?"
""Because you're chicken?"
"Haha... no. Because. You're all gung-ho, and most likely to die first. Ha ha."
"Very funny, Lav"
"Well, *I* thought so."
"So are you gonna come help me out're what?"
"gimme a mo, be right there."
Lavender summoned her supercharge, an arcstrider pole, amd leap into the battle.
*FIVE MINUTES LATER*
Lavender ran behind a boulder. "IS THAT A FREAKING OGRE! tHAT'S A FREAKING OGRE!"
Altaira Rediston, aka "Red" was jumping around the area. "No, It's a giant dreg." she deadpanned.
"Not funny, Red."
"I know. you can't handle an ogre?"
"Screw you, Red."
"Just saying."
"And, yeah, again. SCREW YOU RED!"
The Warlock-class (Red) Jumped across the field, doing what Lavender might like to call "floofing" (a jump-glide combination), and landed behind a rock. "Are you going to sit there all day, or come and help your teammate out?"
"Ok, ok, just gimme a moment." Lavender waited for her grenades to refill, then popped out, tossing two as she ran for the rock Red was behind. She slid to a stop, grinning behind her helmet. "see, you knew I would make it."
"Smartass"
"Allways" a short pause, then Lavender added "and I know you wouldn't have it any other way."
"Ummmmm... not.. going to comment on that."
"Oh Veeeeery funny, red."
Red, the Warlock of the pair dodged left, while Lavender, the Hunter, dodged right. She commed Red "I got cleanup! Pickin' off the little guys. If the big guy gets your attention, we switch out, ok?"
"okay."
The ogre stomped forward, intent on destroying it's enemies. But Red was too fast for it, jumping around too fast for it to target.
"Hey Lavender, watch this!" The warlock pulled out a rocket laucher and fired. Once, twice, three times.
The Ogre got back up. Then another round hit it. It roared as it fell.
Lavender smirked. "Killin' off the little guys is how you get heavy ammo." she shouldered her rocket launcher and walked over. "I think there's a loot box nearby. What's say we go check it out?
The pair walked up to the box and Red looked over at Lavender. " You know I had 'im, right."
"Pfft. But who got in the last shot?"
Both collected the glimmer from the loot box. Red tilted her head "You know you would've been dead without me."
"Ummmm...Riiight. And who got the oneshot on the ogre?"
"I had it where I wanted it!"
"Uh-huh. okay. but I saw you were about *this* close to needing a rezz."
Red folded her arms. I had it and you know it.
"Fine, let's just agree to disagree."
both went to orbit.
"Oh, by the way Red, the bunny act doesn't suit you."
"Screw you, Lavender."
The Huntress laughed. "I don't swing that way, Red."
"You know what I mean."
"Uh-huh. I know. Let's go home, sis."
