After introducing each other, we eat what Clyde said was very simple soup, but to me it was the best because it was the first thing I ever eat and I'm glad it was Clyde's cooking
"So, Dan…" Clyde said, my name got shorter again "You fall from the cliff, right?"
"The one beside town?" I said
"Yeah, do you remember anything?" He said
I do… my people, my home, our mission, everything disappeared in an instant… but, how can I explain it to him? No… is not possible
"I don't" I lied
"You don't, you don't remember anything before you fell?"
Before I fell…
"I don't…" I was in the verge of tears
I didn't have anything, I don't have a past, I don't have a future. One day I didn't exist, the next day I do, the next someone is explaining me my reason to being and the next everything is taken from me
"Hey, don't be sad" Clyde said leaning to dry my tears with his hand "I'm here with you, you can stay all you want" He said and hugged me
"Why? You don't know me, you don't look in a position to help others" I said
"I don't know, but when I first saw you, I felt a huge urge to help you" He said "Besides, early today, you looked like very innocent guy, I can't just throw you away. Also, lonely people need to stand together"
I give up and hug Clyde back, all my senses were exploding, he was so soft, his body was so warm, his heartbeat was calming, his smell was pleasant. Just a moment before I felt so lost and now, I think I found were I belong, right here, between Clyde's arms

I fell sleep after that, my mind needed to rest after all that mental fatigue. I woke up a little bit before nighttime and Clyde decide to tell me everything that had happened in the last few days
"Ok, a week ago there was this huge earthquake, that apparently shake the entire continent, maybe the entire world" Clyde said "And I'm not exaggerating"
I nod, with everything that happened I believe him
"Luckily the cliff near town didn't fall on us, but something did fall near the waterfall, and that was you" Clyde said
I see, after falling from the Observatory I landed in the place I was supposed to protect and they protected me instead, the irony
"Some folks rescue you from the river, but sadly no one wanted you to stay with them. I mean, everyone was still panicking form the earthquake, so don't blame them" Clyde said
"I understand" I said "And then you took care of me?"
"Yeah, I still don't know why, but I don't regret it" Clyde said smiling
"But wasn't it too hard for you? You live alone, right?" I said
"Not at all, besides, the mayor helped me with some money to use on you, but because you didn't eat or drink at all, I gave it back" He said
He is such a nice kid
"Ok, then I'll help you pay for both of us" I said
"Hehe, I would like to say that you don't have to, but I'll be lying. Thanks" Clyde said "Hey Danny, do you remember how old are you?"
"Yes, I'm 15, why?" I asked
"Oh, that means…" Clyde tried to say, but was interrupted for a knock on the door
"Clyde! Open this door right now!" We heard someone yelling outside
Mmm… I remember that voice
"Ughh… What does he want?" Clyde said walking towards the door
Clyde open the door and behind it was the kid that tried to steal his money back then. I believe his name was…
"What do you want Cartman?" Clyde said annoyed "I'm busy"
"What poor boy? You don't have anything to do" Cartman said
"I do, I'm taking care of Danny" Clyde said
"Danny? Is that how you decide to call that corpse?" Cartman said
"He is not that, and he is awake" Clyde said
"You must be going insane" Cartman said and force his way into the house, it was then that he saw me "What!? He is awake!?"
"Told you" Clyde said
"And you haven't told the mayor?" Cartman said mischievously
"He is only being awake for a few hours, he needed to recover. I was going to tell him tomorrow" Clyde said
"Well, too bad, he is looking for you now" Cartman said
"What? What for?" Clyde asked
"I don't know, he looked angry. Apparently is becoming too expensive to maintain the two of you" Cartman said
"What do you mean by that? I work for my own money and I returned everything he gave me" Clyde said
"Are you sure about that?" Cartman said
"Yes, he sends the money by mail and I took it back to his house and leave in in his mailbox on the morning… his mailbox…" As Clyde said that, Cartman just smile mischievously "That's in front of your house…"
"Really?" Cartman said teasingly
"Cartman, you didn't…?" Clyde said
"I did what? I don't know what you are talking about" Cartman said faking ignorance
"But why? Why are you doing this!? Why did I do to you!?" Clyde yelled distress
"Nothing, is just fun to see you miserable" Cartman said
"What…?" Clyde said
"Also, you piss me of the other day, when you didn't listen to me. This is what you get Clyde!" Cartman yelled and laugh maniacally as Clyde dropped to the floor crying
… And I think I'm done. I stand up and swiftly kick Cartman out of the house, he bounced onto the floor outside
"Hey, what do you think you are doing?" Cartman yelled at me angrily
"Danny…" Clyde said surprised
What I'm I doing? I don't know, I'm too angry to think straight. Cartman stand back up and his body started to spew a red aura around him, it all concentrated in his fist and the he launched at me
"Don't let that hit you!" Clyde yelled
I duck to the side and evade it easily, he is not strong at all. White mist appeared in my right hand and with one small touch Cartman body was completely covered in ice. I thought it was over, but Cartman strength managed to break the ice from the inside, but he didn't have any energy left to fight
"I-Ice…?" Cartman said "Are you a mage?"
A mage… what is that? I don't care, I prepare to freeze him again
"Wait! Don't do it" Cartman begged
"Leave" I said menacingly
Cartman scramble on his feet and run away crying
"Are you ok?" I said to Clyde
"Yeah" He said calmer "Thank you for defending me"
"Thank you for taking care of me" I said back as we both smile
"Well, the mayor is looking for me, do you want to come too or do you need to rest more?" Clyde asked me
"Mmm, I'll go. I'll need to talk to him sooner or later, right?" I said
"Right. Let's go, I hope he is not too angry" Clyde said as he started leading the way
After walking a bit, we reached a house near the cliff, in comparation of the others houses in town, it looked like a mansion, Clyde's small wooden shack can't even be compared
"Ok, here we go" Clyde said nervously as he knocked the door
A second later a woman in a white and black dress open the door and said that the mayor was waiting for us. We enter and in the living room there was a big scary man looking at us
"G-Good night sir" Clyde said still nervous
"Hello Clyde, I was looking for you, I sent Eric Cartman to retrieve you, did he give you my message?" The mayor said
"He only said to come here" Clyde said
"Didn't he tell you anything about we couldn't maintain your friend anymore?" The mayor said
"What? I thought he was lying" Clyde said
"Well, is true" The mayor said "Angel Fall is in the middle of a big canyon, there is only one way to enter here, and because of the recent earthquake, monster are appearing more and more, making entering or leaving the area very difficult. You know this, don't you?"
"I heard about it" Clyde said and the mayor sigh
This guy seems serious, he doesn't look cruel like Cartman, he is doing what he has to with a heavy heart
"We have been talking about you like you aren't in the room and haven't said a word" The mayor said "Why don't you introduce us Clyde?"
"Oh, yes. Sir, this is Daniel and he is 15 years old…" Clyde said not knowing what else to add
"And what else?" The mayor asked
"Emm… That's it, he has amnesia, so he doesn't remember anything before falling into town" Clyde said
"Amnesia, that's such a convenient excuse to ask for help" The mayor said
"He is saying the truth, I believe him" Clyde said making me smile "Also he just woke up today, we didn't use any of the money you send us and I tried to return it… but Cartman stole it"
"That's a serios accusation Clyde, do you have any proof?" The mayor said
"He told me himself, but I don't think he is going to confess to it now" Clyde said
"I see…" The mayor looked thoughtful for a moment "Young Daniel, tell me, do you have a vocation?"
A what? Vocation… what's that?
"Yeah, we believe he is a mage" Clyde said confidently
"Is that so?" The mayor said
"Yes, he used ice magic to defend me from Cartman" Clyde said
"Then his arrival could have being lucky for us, young Daniel, I woul…" The mayor tried to say
"Wait" I stopped him "Before anything, what's a vocation and what's a mage?"
"What? You don't know?" Clyde said
"Mmm… No, you know… my memories" I said
"Oh right. I'm sorry" Clyde said
"A vocation is a sacred job given to us by the All Mighty" The mayor said "It guide us in life and give us the power to do it"
A job by the All Mighty…
"Yeah, like priest or mayor or store owner or maid" Clyde continued listing various vocations
"Between them there is one type in specific called adventurer" The mayor said "Adventurers are people in charge of eliminate monsters and there are different types of adventurers, one of them are mages, they fight using strong magic and spells"
"Usually you get your vocation when you turn 15, that's why I thought you were a mage" Clyde said
I see, I think I understand everything, my main doubt is that this seems like important information, why wasn't loaded in my head when I was born? Also…
"So, you get force into a vocation against your will? And what if you don't like the vocation you get? Are you still force to do it?" I asked
"To get a vocation, you need to perform a ritual on a church with a priest, no one is forced to do it, but if you get a vocation, you'll get skills useful for it. However, you don't get to choose which you get, but the one you get is usually suited for you"
"Yeah" Clyde told me "I heard that the mayor didn't like his vocation when he was young and he was really bad at it" Clyde said and the mayor cough to get his attention back "Oh, sorry"
"Is ok. I warmed to my vocation and I'm really glad I got it" The mayor said "Finally, you can go against your vocation and choose to do something else, but you won't get skills or abilities for it"
So, you get a bonus and you are free to do whatever with it if you want, the only thing I don't like is that you don't choose it
"Is there no way to choose at all?" I asked
"No sadly" The mayor said "However, I heard one time from a traveler about a place where you can change your vocation, I don't know if is true or not"
"Mmm, I see. Thank you for explaining everything to me" I said
"Thank you, sir" Clyde said too
"Is not a problem" The mayor said "And now, continuing what I was saying before. With the small amount of money we have left, we want to hire adventurers to get rid of the nest of monsters that was made nearby"
"What? There is a nest of monsters?" Clyde said
"As I said before, more monsters started to appear after the earthquake, it looks like that the most of them made a base at the ancient ruins of our town, the Hexagon. Some folks were to investigate and apparently, what's drawing them is a strong monster in the deeper parts of the ruins"
"So, if the strong monster is gone, the other small monsters will leave too?" Clyde asked
"That's what we think" The mayor said
"Oh, so you want Danny to…" Clyde tried to say
"Yes" The mayor said "If your friend is an adventurer, he could help us in this situation"
"But he is still weak, he just woke up a few hours ago…" Clyde said
"I'll do it" I said
"But…" Clyde tried to say, but I smile at him to show him my resolve "Are you sure?" He said an I nod
Even if I'm not a celestial anymore, I'm still the guardian of this town, if they are in trouble, I shall help them and Clyde
"So, I'm a mage?" I asked
"Not necessarily" The mayor said "Some other adventurers can also use ice magic. You should go to the church and ask the priest to identify your vocation, he should be able to do it"
"Right, thanks" I said
"Young Daniel" The mayor said and stand up "It could be that destiny send you when we needed you the most. Please save our town" He said bowing to me
"I will" I say bowing back
"Dan…" Clyde said and I look back at him "I want to go with you. I don't want you to go alone"
"What? Are you an adventurer too?" I asked
"I… I don't have a vocation" Clyde said
"Why? Are you not old enough?" I asked
"No, he has 15 too" The mayor said "In order to perform the ritual to get a vocation, you need to pay a fee to the church. Clyde parents die when he was little, he has been supporting himself since then, barely gaining any money to survive"
"Clyde…" I said
"Is ok, I have learn how to survive on my own" Clyde said "And is ok if I'm not an adventurer, I don't want anything bad to happen to you, so we can go together and…" Clyde tried to say
"You'll be dead weight to him" The mayor told Clyde "Without any ability to fight, you'll only get on his way"
"No… I'll do my best…" Clyde said
"Sorry Clyde, I can't let you go" The mayor said
"But…" Clyde tried to say
"So, if you are going to pay me" I said getting their attention "Can I use the reward to pay for Clyde vocation?"
"Huh…!" Clyde said
"If you accept, is your money, use it as you like" The mayor said "But even if you pay for it, is not guaranteed that Clyde will become an adventurer, he could get a non-fighting vocation"
"Is ok" I said
"But…" Clyde tried to object
"If he doesn't become an adventurer, I won't let him go with you" The mayor said
"I'll appreciated it" I said
"Understood" The mayor said and gave me a small bag with gold coins "The monsters are more dangerous at night, you should go tomorrow"
"Yes, again thank you, sir" I said, I look at Clyde and it looks like too much information was passing through his head "We should go now"
"Have a good night" The mayor wave at us
I took Clyde's hand and start walking back to his house. I learn a lot today, I surprised about the small amount of information on me, I guess that they only give us the bare minimum when we are born. I look back at Clyde and he looked conflicted
"Are you ok?" I asked
"Yeah… Are you sure you want to use your money on me?" Clyde asked
"Of course" I said
"You shouldn't…" Clyde said
"Why?" I said
"I'm not worth it" Clyde said
"That's not true" I said
"I'm not worth anything, no one would give a damn if I disappear" Clyde said tears on his eyes
"I would" I said
"… That's just because I helped you" Clyde said
"Yeah, and because you took care of me, and because you feed me, and because you held me when I need it most" I said
"Danny…"
"And because you are such a nice and caring person that I want to stay with for as long as I can" I said and I hug him "Clyde, this few hours we spend together are everything I have, and I enjoy every single one of them, because you were with me. You are my everything, so don't say you have no worth, ok?"
Clyde nodded as he hugged me back. Being a celestial, my sacred duty, those are things that were forced on me. Clyde is the first thing I chose on my own, and I'll protect it no matter what
