HELLO FELLAS!
…..
Derek, it 's me. Um, well you called and I suppose you're busy or… whatever. Anyway call me. I think I'm ready to talk.
He had received that voice mail three hours ago. Three. By that time he was on the OR, next to Meredith Grey who assured it was not his cell phone buzzing.
Derek sighed and then groaned, his anger clearly taking over. He stood up from his desk, storming out of his office in a way that suggested anger, and of course, he was angry.
He practically ran into the intern's locker room, sadly seeing a little too much of George O'Malley that he had ever wanted to see, but ignoring that, he spotted Meredith, "Doctor Grey! One simple task, Grey. One simple task!" He raised his voice, "You're off my service, forever." Derek exclaimed, everyone seemed surprised and lost as to why Doctor McDreamy was so upset, but Grey didn't have that same surprised face.
The brain surgeon left, slamming the door behind him. He finished some paperwork and got ready to leave the hospital. Derek took a deep breath and before leaving his office to leave work for the day, he grabbed his phone and decided to call her back, figure out where they could meet to talk, if she wanted to meet.
After dialing her number, he waited, and surprisingly his call was responded quicker than expected, "Addison?" He asked on the phone, expecting to hear her voice.
"Actually it's Callie, she's… gone."
"Gone?" Derek's eyes widened.
"Yeah, she left. I don't know where, I just came back to our room. Uh, and she left her phone here."
Derek drove to their apartment, with the idea that maybe she was there, but of course, Addison had taken his keys last night. Then he remembered they kept an extra set on the glove compartment of his jeep. He had to go back to his car and get the keys.
Finally he went inside their apartment, first thing he visited was their bedroom after calling out her name, finding the bed messy, meaning she didn't even bother to make it this morning. He called her name again, but it was quiet. Doc wasn't there, which meant his wife had taken him. He walked around the block of their apartment, thinking she had taken a walk with Doc, but no. He didn't see her around. He called Richard, he told her she wasn't in the hospital either, and asked what had happened with Grey. As much as Derek hated wasting time he could be spending looking for his wife, he had to ask to get the intern away from his OR.
Derek spoke to Richard and then had to deal with Miranda yelling on the phone while he drove back to where he had slept last night. Addison's red Mercedes was parked outside the trailer. As soon as his call ended, Derek let out a sigh of relief and smiled a little. He had finally let Meredith go, there were no feelings anymore, nothing. Just co-workers.
And then he smiled fully, from ear to ear, he had been afraid she had gotten lost or something, that maybe he wasn't going to find her here after all. Then he came back to reality, remembering how they had left things last night, the things that were said, the yelling and anger from both of them. He had thought about it, but was she going to be okay with his conclusion? He was about to find out.
He got out of his jeep and walked fast to the trailer, as he opened the unlocked door, he was met by a loud bark, obviously Doc himself greeted him. The first thing he saw when he took a step into their metallic ex-home, was her. Addison was sitting on the edge of the bed, her hands busy on Doc's fur, caressing him. He was so relieved to see her, although it wasn't the Addison he had seen last night before he stormed out for a few drinks, this Addison had shoulder length hair and not an angry face, but a sad look on her blue-greenish eyes.
"Hey." She greeted softly, forcing her lips into a lip closed smile, watching him approach.
Derek sat down next to her, and met her eyes, "Hey."
"Did you receive my message?" Addison asked, letting out a breath she didn't know she had been holding.
Derek inhaled sharply, remembering why he did not answer that call, "Yeah, I was in the middle of a surgery and my intern didn't tell me it was you calling." Derek said, now looking down, Doc trying to catch his attention by practically jumping against him with his paws and those small barks. "Sorry." He said after finally calming Doc down with his touch.
Addison looked down at Doc, "Really?"
"I really am sorry." Derek said, posing a hand on her knee.
She sighed and put her right hand on top of his, meeting his eyes, "No, not that. Did your intern really didn't tell you I was calling?"
Derek nodded, "Really. It was Meredith, actually. I- I talked to Richard and Bailey, she's off my service forever."
"Really?!" Her eyes widened.
"Really." Derek nodded again, "Anyway, uh… I thought about it." He sighed, taking a deep breath before speaking, "Maybe I could try forgiving Mark. Truthfully, I have always imagined my children having a blast with 'uncle Mark', and as much as he can be a real jerk, you're right. He's like a brother to me. And I'm glad he was there when I wasn't, although I can't forgive him yet. I need time. Okay?"
"Okay." Addison nodded, biting her lower lip.
"Good."
Addison grabbed his hand from her knee and squeezed it gently, "I missed you."
"I missed you too, I like your hair though." He said, their eyes glowing for each other, hers less sad than earlier.
She giggled a little, "I thought you were going to lecture me as to why I should have kept it long."
He raised his eyebrows at her, "Oh, so you cut your hair just to piss me off?"
"Pretty much." She nodded, letting out a chuckle.
He chuckled along, "you're beautiful, with or without your long hair." Derek kissed her forehead and squeezed her hand, "It's kinda sexy though."
Addison giggled, "Oh shut up."
He inhaled some air before asking; "So, am I forgiven, Misses Shepherd?"
"No." Addison said sincerely and seriously.
His eyes widened, "No?!"
Addison chuckled at his reaction, "You'll be forgiven when you start building that damn house." She challenged, tilting her head to the side, raising her eyebrows at him.
He laughed and nodded, "Good, because I'm starting tomorrow."
"You are?!" Now her eyes were the ones widened.
"Yeah." Derek said proudly.
Addison leaned closer and pecked his lips, "Then you're forgiven earlier just for being you." She winked at him and rested her head on his shoulder, "by the way, you smell like you haven't showered in a century."
Derek sighed, "Ah, the perks of being married." He rolled his eyes, his tone teasing.
Slowly Addison stood up, "Let's go home, we're hungry and you need a bath," The redhead said, touching her slightly swollen fifteen-weeks belly.
They went home and they ate, Addison double ate and Callie dropped by to give Addison her phone, after she left the Shepherds took a long bath, Addison behind Derek, making sure to get him as clean as possible and smelling less like a woodchopping fisherman.
Addison drew on his back and he had that face on his features that clearly meant he was thinking.
"What is it."
"Hmm… A tree. No, no. A Christmas tree!" Derek said, looking back to her.
"Stop! How are you so good at this?!" She said, annoyed, "It's not fair, when I'm the one guessing I never guess."
"Hmm, maybe we should taste your touch senses," Derek said, grabbing her hand and kissing it.
"Maybe." She conceded, removing her hand from his, so she could grab the sponge and rub his back with it. After that she massaged his shoulders for a couple minutes, his groaning meant she was doing a good job, and then Derek paid her back by massaging her feet.
After their really-long-wrinkly-skin-kind-of-bath, they went to bed. Addison and Derek stared at each other's eyes for several minutes, different shades of blue battling against one another, until their eye-staring session was interrupted by Doc's nails against the door, asking to be let in. Addison giggled and said, "not standing up," her sleepy voice said.
Derek had to stand up and opened the door for the dog and then he returned to bed, thinking he'd be back to look at his wife's eyes, but it was too late, because she had her eyes closed and she had fallen into a deep unexpected sleep. The wonders of pregnancy, he supposed.
He cuddled closer to her and kissed the top of her head, caressed her hair for a while, his eyes would not drift to sleep, he couldn't. He had all these thoughts besides the Mark matter, as he said earlier that evening, 'I have always imagined my children having a blast with 'uncle Mark', he was finally having that child.
His hand slipped slowly from her head that had recently had a new haircut to his wife's belly, where underneath their baby was growing, slowly he got under the sheets to be closer and spoke out loud, but not too loud, careful not to wake Addison, "Hey there." Derek said, stroking her wife's naked abdomen, "I can't sleep. It's been a while since it's only been us."
"I feel a bunch of things. I'm nervous, but happy as well. So happy we're going to meet you, we're going to see you grow, your mom and I. I'm scared of screwing up, even worse, I'm scared I won't be the best dad, or that I'll mess up somehow. But I'm so excited to finally have you in my arms, read you a bedtime story, be a dad. I'm so excited for many things, see you play around the house, have you pulling everyone's hair and biting when your teeth start to grow." Derek giggled a little, just thinking of their upcoming trouble maker.
"I can't wait for it all. Your first words… I'll make sure you say Da-da first, although if you say Ma-Ma first it'll be okay, family vacations, Christmases… I think I've already mentioned Christmases to you, but you'll love them." He said, kissing Addison's stomach and stroking it as well.
"I love you so much already. I'll always love you even if you're as stubborn as your mom, I'll love you anyway. I can't wait to plan birthday parties, drive you to school, talk bad about mean kids with you behind their backs, plan pranks on your mom… Help you study. Seeing you cringe when your mom starts explaining 'birds and bees' to you," Derek giggled, "And when you grow up, we'll take you look for universities. Your mom won't like that though, I'm aware she will miss you so much when you're gone, and I will too."
"Know that whatever you want to do in life, we'll be there for you. Your mom and I will always support you. Doesn't matter what it is. All we care about is loving you, okay? We'll figure out a name soon, so your mom will stop calling you 'apple', alright? K. Sleep tight."
Derek kissed her stomach again and slowly got back up to his original position, but when he was about to turn off the lights, he met Addison's eyes, both a sea, tears streaming down her cheeks, lips pursed.
"Addie…"
"I heard you," She explained faintly, her lips curling up a little.
Derek returned to his original spot next to her and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear before removing her tears from her cheeks with kisses, "Come here," He said after kissing them off all, although his work had been in vane because her eyes kept leaking salty tears.
She cuddled up to him, he wrapped an arm around her and pulled her closer, having her head on the small gap of his shoulder and neck, resting there and whimpering in between cries, "Our kid is gonna love you so much."
Derek ran circles on her back, his head against hers, "Shh, you too. I love you so much," Derek tried to comfort her, moving slowly his head to kiss her forehead.
The moisture of her tears were soaking his t-shirt, so he slowly moved her away, sat up in bed and took his shirt off, when he looked down at her, he saw her puppy eyes staring at him, waiting for his warm body to be back next to hers, "Wanna be little spoon?" Derek asked sweetly, looking down to her.
Addison nodded silently; her lips curling up into a small smile. He always knew how to make her feel better, didn't he? Derek turned off the lights and waited for Addison to roll to her other side, then he got behind her, "Good night," He said, holding her closer to him, her back against his chest, their legs cuddling under the sheets, a little battle there, trying to keep each other warm.
He held her and muttered sweet things to her ear, I love yous the most, and he kissed her neck and caressed her soft skin until she fell asleep. Shortly, he fell asleep too, holding the woman he loved, the mother of his unborn child, his favorite person. His wife.
