Ch. 2

Winter dropped his chisel and ran outside.

An Icewing dragonet, a little bit younger than him, was crumpled on the ground. Winter thought she was dead until she moved her wing frantically, and her eyes snapped open. "I can't stop," she rasped. "They're going to kill me – I have to keep moving – Please, Snowfall, I didn't – I'm fine, let me –"

"Shh," Winter said, standing her up. She leaned heavily against him, still talking about Snowfall and flying and death, while he led her inside and laid her down on the couch that Moon and Qibli had sat on not too long ago.

"Where am I?" said the dragonet, still flapping her wings. She tried to get up but slumped onto the cushions. "I can't stop – they'll find me –"

"Shh," said Winter again, putting his wing over her shaking body. "You're safe now. Safe from whatever you're trying to escape."

The dragonet squirmed, tried to get up again, and fell back onto the couch. "I can't sleep – They'll come and get me –" she said before she passed out and Winter's shop was silent.

Winter made sure she was asleep before he draped a blanket over her and went back to his statue. By the time he had finished it, it was almost midnight, so he went up to get some sleep.

He woke the next morning and went downstairs to find two royal Icewing guards standing in his shop.

"Good morning," he said, bowing to try to mask his fear. "What can I do for you?"

"We're looking for a female Icewing named Snowdrop. She has been accused of terrorizing her fellow Icewings," said the first guard. He looked suspiciously at the sleeping Icewing that was still on the couch from last night. "Is this her?"

Winter frowned. "That's my partner," he said calmly. "Her name's Jasmine. We work together, and she was finishing up some statues last night, so she slept here." He pointed out the window. "I did see an Icewing fly over here, but it was going towards the Ice Kingdom."

The other guard nodded. "Thank you." Then both of them flew out the door.

Winter closed and latched the door and looked back at the sleeping dragonet, who he now knew the name of. "Oh, Snowdrop," he sighed. "What have you done?"

Snowdrop is 17! (This was changed on July 2021; she was originally 15 and it actually doesn't affect the story but I thought the 7 year age gap was a bit weird.) You may use her in your fanfic if you wish :)
