Ch 4
Winter got about two days of peace before the letter arrived.
On the outside, it didn't look out of the ordinary. The envelope was an unobtrusive white. It was made of papyrus, which was pretty common in the Sand Kingdom. It glimmered a bit, but papyrus did that in the light sometimes.
The other side had the royal Icewing seal, printed in wax.
Winter opened the letter with quivering talons.
"Winter:
I received your letter about the commission's state. Princess North and I, Queen Snowfall, are coming personally to pick it up. Thank you for taking the time to share your talents."
There was small writing at the bottom of the page. Winter read it, and wished he hadn't.
"P.S. There is a female Icewing named Snowdrop on the loose. She has terrorized her fellow Icewings and has run away from authority. I sent guards to your house a few days ago, and I would like to know if you had any other information. Thank you in advance for your cooperation."
Winter's life became ten times scarier with those four sentences.
"Snowdrop?" he called, rooted to the floor, eyes still glued to the page that held those four sentences that would rip his otherwise calm life apart.
Snowdrop poked her head around the corner. She seemed relatively calm, oblivious to the fact that Snowfall was probably flying towards them with the goal of killing Snowdrop. Upon seeing Winter's face, she moved towards him. "Winter – What's going on?"
"You need to hide," he hissed, grabbing her by the shoulders. "Snowfall's coming – I forgot that I had told her that her commission was finished. You're not safe."
Snowdrop opened her mouth and was promptly interrupted by the door being flung open by the one dragon he didn't want to see.
