Epilogue

"Do you think it'll like me? What if it doesn't like me?"

Snowdrop's bubbly laughter filled the room as she gazed fondly at the creamy white egg. "It's your dragonet, Winter; besides, I hardly think that anyone could dislike you."

"But what if–"

"Oh, shush," she admonished, planting a kiss on his snout.

Suddenly, the egg moved, and a crack split it down the middle. Winter squeezed Snowdrop's talons in his. There was a long silence, and he exhaled. When had he been holding his breath?

And then the egg broke in half and Winter's rational thoughts left him as most beautiful pearly white dragonet tumbled out.

Snowdrop spread her wings to protect the little dragonet from falling off the little cot. It made a little squeak, like the sound of a scavenger. It groped blindly, still with closed eyes. "Rak?"

Winter felt his heart melt into two. Gently, as if he was moving through water, he took the little dragon in his talons. It curled into his claws, seeking warmth. Snowdrop smiled at him.

Winter had seen gold and jewels in his Kingdom. He had seen the great gifts that the animus royalty had left behind. But this little dragonet in his claws seemed more valuable than anything in the world, more precious than anything gemstones could buy.

"What do you think of Polaris?" asked Snowdrop, pressing into his side to get a better view.

The dragonet opened her eyes, and Winter found himself gazing into a beautiful night sky, sparkling with stars. In those eyes, he could almost see the North Star she was named after.

"Hello, Polaris," he said, pulling Snowdrop in a tight embrace. "Welcome to the world."

Polaris is also an OC, and she will be appearing in another fanfiction very soon :) I guess she could also be a Nightwing (Polaris is the name of the North Star) and it would make more sense, but I had Princess North and North Star so we're going with that now... You may not use her (she's mineeee)
