Tris POV
This is all too confusing, but as I look at Uriah's face, I know that this is no joke. "What's happening?" I ask Uriah who gets more serious; this can't be good. Uriah is the last person to be serious about something so I know that we are in deep waters.
"I think we are part of an experiment. And we aren't the only ones." Uriah answers. With that answer, I know there is much more going on. It can't be a coincidence that Uriah and I are both alive. Who else could be part of this experiment?
"Is anyone else alive?" I ask. Thankfully, Uriah answers quickly. "All of our friends that died during the war are alive."
I'm in shock; I don't know what to think. All of our friends, Will, Al, Marlene, and Lynn, are alive. My head is spinning trying to comprehend what is going on.
My breathing quickens. This all too much. Thankfully, Uriah manages to calm me down by rubbing my shoulders. I then turn to him desperate to know where they are. "Where are they, Uriah?"
"They are at Candor Headquarters. Tris, if you come with me, we can go and get them and then reunite with the rest of the gang." Uriah replies.
I'm definitely in the plan, but before I can say anything; Uriah places his hand on my mouth ordering me to stay quiet. I try to look around trying to figure out what is going on. I'm terrified if I was actually brought into a trap.
Then I hear a gunshot, I now fear for my life. I try to get out of Uriah's grip but he quickly removes his hand and grabs hold of my arm. "We have company, let's get out of here." Uriah says.
I see that Uriah had no idea about this so I agree and quickly follow him out of The Pit. I turn slightly to see who is shooting us and I see several guards following us.
I'm not sure if they are Dauntless soldiers or just a new form of security but I quickly ignore my curiosity as more gunshots erupt in the hallways. I follow Uriah outside Dauntless Headquarters. Uriah stops making me stop and he starts looking for something.
I turn to the hallway we came out of and I see the guards are gaining upon us. I turn to Uriah to warn him but he is already running. I quickly follow suit.
Uriah stops in front of a car and quickly gets in, he then signals to me to get in which I do. As soon as I get in, I shout at Uriah: "Go!"
He immediately starts the car and drives off. I look at the side mirror and I see the guards have stopped following us. Now that is weird but I still sigh in relief. "What was that?" I ask Uriah confused.
Uriah's breathing is heavy but he manages to answer. "I have no idea. I was told that no one is allowed inside any of the former Headquarters of the factions but I didn't know it was this serious."
"We clearly weren't welcomed." I say. Uriah nods as I take a deep breath. Uriah drives to an apartment that is located near Abnegation.
Tobias POV
"What?!" Caleb asks in shock as he rushes to Matthew's laptop. I try to see what is on the screen but Caleb's body covers my view so I just lower my head still trying to comprehend what is going on.
Tris is alive, but how? We cremated her body and threw her ashes while I went on the zip line. This makes no sense. Is she a clone? Or was her death faked?
"Could you identify who is with Tris?" I hear Caleb ask.
Caleb's voice brings me back to reality; I look up and see that the man that was with Tris is running alongside her. Who is he? Is he trying to steal my Tris?! Matthew nods at Caleb and starts to a face scan of the man.
The scan is quick and Matthew's face turns from shock to confusion. He then turns to us with his laptop in hand but the screen is facing his chest. "I've found out who's with Tris." Matthew says softly.
"Who?" We all ask anxious, including Caleb.
Matthew sighs before saying something I did not expect to hear while he turned the screen towards us: "Uriah Pedrad."
Tris POV
I'm now in the house Uriah was staying at after he escaped. Being an Abnegation house, it doesn't have much to it but Uriah clearly used paint to make a graffiti in the bedroom he slept in.
He explained that he escaped from the place we were held captive a few weeks ago and found this Abnegation house and he stayed here ever since. He also explained that I escaped several months ago but I don't remember it, which is weird, to say the least.
Uriah is now looking through the weapons that he has and I have to say I am impressed at how many he has. He doesn't have an arsenal of weapons to fight a war but enough for two or three people to defend themselves.
I walk over to him after he signaled me to do so and he handed me a handgun and a knife. "After seeing what happened in The Pit, we better be ready for company at Candor." Uriah explains.
"Definitely. Do you know in which part are they in?" I say while I put the handgun in a holster that I grabbed from the table.
"From what I know, they are in the place where you and Four were injected with the Truth Serum." Uriah says.
When Uriah mentions Four, I can't help but think what he is doing now. Has he moved on? Does he have a new job? What will he think when he sees me? Questions like this roll through my mind until Uriah snaps his fingers.
"Wake up, Trissy. I don't you passing out on me." Uriah says and I can't help but laugh. This is the Uriah I've grown to know. "I'm awake, Uri. I was just wondering what would Four think when he sees me." I say not knowing how to explain myself.
Uriah puts down his handgun and places his hands on my shoulders. "I'm sure he's going to be thrilled to see you." He says with a smile.
I smile back glad Uriah thinks I may still have a chance to reunite with Tobias. I'm sure Uriah will be excited to see Marlene again; I still remember how sad he was after she died.
Uriah lowers his hands and grabs his handgun. He then gives a cheeky smirk, of course, he would. "Let's go and get them." Uriah says excitedly.
Tobias POV
Matthew turns the screen toward us and we see Uriah's face, both the image of the face scan and from the live video footage. This day is getting weirder by the minute.
I turn to Zeke and his face only shows shock and confusion. I don't blame him, to know that your brother is still alive after burring him over four years ago is a lot to take.
I see Zeke whisper something but I can't hear it. I get up from the couch and walk over to him. I then place my hand on his shoulder to comfort him. "I know it's hard, Zeke, but I know you can pull through." I say to him.
Zeke doesn't respond meaning he is in deep shock, I start snapping my fingers to snap him out but Shauna wraps her arms around his waist and asks him: "Zeke, Baby, are you okay?"
Shauna's voice manages to snap Zeke out of his shock. He turns to Shauna and gives her a sisyphean smile. "Em… yeah. I'm okay." He says to Shauna before turning to me. "Thanks, Four, for the support." He tells me.
I give him a small smile. I'm still not used to showing affection, funny because I've known Zeke much longer than Tris but she always brought the best in me. I can't wait to see her again!
"No problem, man." I say to him.
Then I turn to Caleb who is no drinking water, obviously trying to hide his nerves. My face turns stern as I give him a scowl. "Did you know about Uriah?" I ask.
He quickly shakes his head leaving the glass of water on the table where the laptop was. He then raises his arms in defense. "I had no idea, Four. I only knew about Tris." He says.
I still don't trust Caleb. He kept Tris a secret for fuck shakes! But I can tell that his voice was filled with fear, clearly showing he had no idea so he is off the hook, for now. I simply nod at him and turn my attention back at Zeke.
I then see Cara comforting Christina who is still coping with the idea that both Tris and Uriah are alive. Tris was her best friend and she was forming quite a unique relationship with Uriah at the Bureau so I can't blame her for her reaction to all this.
"I got the car plate of Uriah's car. We can actually get to them." I hear Matthew say.
We all turn to him while Zeke walks over to him and grabs him by the collar of his shirt. "Tell me now, Matthew, before you lose a few teeth." Zeke says demandingly.
I have never seen Zeke this serious but he was always protective of Uriah so I'm not surprised. Shauna then walks over to them and gives Matthew a death glare. She actually looks scary. "Tell him now, Matthew. We are not going to ask again" Shauna says the same way Zeke did.
Matthew quickly nods not wanting to be their punching bag. He better be quick because then he will turn into my punching bag. He types a few things on the keyboard after Zeke let go of his shirt.
"It's L91 3180. We'll give you a device that will help you track the car." Matthew explains.
"Then what are we waiting for? Let's go!" Christina says making us all jump but then Cara jumps into the conversation. "Christina is right. Tris and Uriah could you use our help for whatever they are doing."
We quickly look at them in agreement. Shauna grabs the device Matthew spoke about and we all head to Zeke's car but first I need to tell my mother to stay behind. She walks to the doorway and I follow suit.
"I wish you could come with us, Mother, but I can't let you do these kinds of things again." I say to Evelyn.
She gives me a warm smile and then she cups my face. "I know you have been taking care of me ever since I was diagnosed with lung cancer but I'm still as strong as I once was." She tells me.
Evelyn had been diagnosed with lung cancer over a year ago and the doctors said that she had at least four or five years more to live.
But they gave us the option of using a medicine that would prolong her lifespan but on the condition of her not doing anything risky. We obviously took that route.
"I know but I can't let you take the risk. I love you." I say to her. It took me a while to say 'I love you' to Evelyn after what she put me through but she showed time and time again how sorry she was and I believe her.
"I love you too." She says as she lowers her hand.
I join the gang in Zeke's car and he quickly drives off following the directions of the device that Matthew gave us. Hang on, Tris; we'll be there soon.
