"To the victory of heroes!"
They were all in the Star Labs, celebrating their latest victory against a really challenging metahuman. Actually, this new meta was so challenging that they had to ask Team Arrow's assisance, so Oliver and Felicity were with them, too.
"Thank you Oliver," said Barry in a grateful voice. "You really saved my ass back there."
"Hey, you were not so bad yourself," replied Oliver.
After that, they started an excruciatingly long conversation about their fight with Cisco, which caused a sigh and an eyeroll from both of the girls. After a while, Felicity interrupted them.
"OK, that's enough!" she said. "We all know how brave and heroic and awesome and… bla bla you guys are. But there are other issues we have to talk about now."
"Like what?" asked Cisco, with a lollipop in his hand.
"How did this happen?" Felicity pointed Barry and Caitlin.
"What do you mean?" asked Caitlin.
Oliver frowned. "You know what? I'm curious about that, too. We all thought that Barry had, you know…" he stuttered, trying not to make a blunder. "… other things in his mind."
Felicity rolled her eyes again. "What Oliver is trying to ask is… How did you pull your head out of your ass and come to your senses, Barry?"
Caitlin burst out laughing. Barry blushed, but smiled anyway. Before he could say anything, Oliver intervened.
"Especially after that futuristic newspaper article thing?"
Barry thought a little. "You know what? That newspaper article is the exact reason why I pulled my head out of my ass and came to my senses" he said, quoting Felicity.
"Really?" said Felicity suspiciously.
"Yeah," said Barry. "You know, through my whole life, I clinged on to that fantasy, that impossible dream of being with Iris. But when I saw that article, the hard proof that my dreams would come true, it got me into thinking, was that still what I want? Even more, have I really ever wanted that, or was that just a desperate attempt of an orphan child who wanted something to hold on to?"
"So, you're saying, you realised that you actually don't love Iris, by looking at an article that basically said that you would end up with Iris in the future?" asked Felicity, still suspicious.
"Yeap, that's the general idea," replied Barry calmly.
"Well, that doesn't make much sense to me, either," said Oliver.
"Look guys, I don't expect you to understand me in an instant," explained Barry patiently. "Also, it's not like I suddenly fell out of love with Iris or something. It happened gradually. Especially after I woke up from that coma, day by day, piece by piece, I managed to understand the true nature of my feelings towards her. I was just in need of a family after my mom, after my dad, and Iris was always there, always in my life. That's just it."
Felicity continued to question. "So, it wasn't just the article, then?"
"Of course it wasn't," replied Barry. "I was already aware that I had some feelings growing in me about a certain someone here," he looked at Caitlin and smiled. "I knew that our relationship was shifting from friendship to something more. That article was the last straw."
Oliver nodded, Felicity seemed more convinced now. Seeing that he persuaded them, Barry added playfully.
"Also, seeing Caitlin half-naked in the process may have helped a little."
Caitlin whipped her head. "What?!" she shrieked.
Felicity and Oliver burst out laughing. Cisco covered his ears with his hands. "Dude, too much information!"
"When?" Caitlin asked, her face crimson red.
Barry smirked. "Karaoke night."
"You said you didn't peek!"
"Well, obviously I lied."
"I think we are done here," said Felicity loudly to attract their attention. She pointed her head to Oliver and Cisco, and they went out together.
Watching them go, Caitlin turned to Barry again. "I can't believe you looked!"
"Come on, Caitlin!" said Barry. "I'm a guy, and you are an extremely beautiful woman. Besides, you blew my mind with that dress that night, of course I looked!"
Caitlin tried to stay serious, but Barry didn't miss the twitch of her lips.
"Also, you were the one who said I deserved a peek," he said, approaching to her slowly.
"I was drunk," said Caitlin and stepped back, trying to escape, but Barry kept coming and her back was against the wall after a while.
"Got you," whispered Barry, imprisoning her between himself and the wall with his arms. He leant on, their eyes were closed, the vanilla scent coming from Caitlin's hair was making him dizzy and her hot breath was sending shivers through his spine. He leant slowly, enjoying every second. His lips grazed hers…
Cisco's voice burst through the comms.
"OK, I hate interrupting your make out session guys, but Caitlin has to look at the DNA samples of the meta. Besides, STOP MAKING OUT IN THE LAB!"
