Luz and Maxwell ran through the market place as they eventually slowed down to a walk, searching for their friend Amity. They passed a few stands that looked like they were closing up for the day, some were still open for the next hour or more, people walking around and exploring the area.
"I'm not trying to be rude or anything but why come with me? I can handle myself for this." said Luz kindly.
"No brute is going to lay a hand on you or any woman as long as I'm still alive and breathing. Just like I told Eda, you watch my back, I watch yours." Maxwell kindly told her.
"Your sweet." said Luz with a grin.
They eventually stopped and spotted Amity from a distance. She was carrying what looked like a pink fanny pack but it hung over her shoulder. The two humans made their way towards her.
"Amity, over yonder!" called Maxwell.
Just as Amity turned towards them and they made their way towards her, they stopped as two other kids popped up in front of them like a slice of bread popping out of a toaster. It was both Edric and Emira.
"Hey Luz, hey Maxie!" said Edric and Emira in unison.
Both humans jumped in surprise. Luz managed to stay standing on her feet but Maxwell got surprised that he fell over backwards to the ground, panting while clutching his chest where his heart was located.
"Oops. We didn't mean to start both you." said Edric showing alarm.
"I think you gave Maxie a heart attack." said Emira also alarmed.
"Que alguien me eche una mano aquí!" said Maxwell catching his breath.
Luz was about to intervene but Amity beat her to it as Amity took hold of Maxwell's hand and pulled him back up on his feet.
"Edric! Emira! Stop bothering them! You could've given one of them heart attack!" Amity warned her siblings. "Sorry, guys, they insisted on coming for some reason."
"Because we love you baby sister!" said Emira in a cute like voice while hugging Amity.
Amity brushed Emira off by gently pushing her off her. Amity showed she was annoyed by such affections but she brushed it off.
"They've been extra protective and nice towards me to make up for the library incident." said Amity fixing her hair and crossing her arms in discontent.
"And we still apologize everyday." Edric chimed in.
Amity lightly pushed Edric away with one of her hands as she pulled out the Azura book from her bag and handed it back to Luz.
"Anycase, here's your book." said Amity kindly.
"So, what'd you think?" asked Luz.
"It was...fine." Amity replied while looking away with blushing cheeks.
Luz pulled out what looked like a drawing of both Amity and one of the characters from the book. It showed a thought bubble that read "This love is forbidden" . Luz grinned from the picture.
"So fine you drew yourself with Malingale, the mysterious soothsayer?" said Luz showing the picture to Amity.
Amity looked right at it, blushed deeper and she had an embarrassed expression on her face as she used her finger to draw a purple circle in the air, which destroyed the picture like it was being burned by a purple light that acted like fire.
"Good news though, both me and Maxie are going to be enrolling at Hexside so we may end up being classmates." said Luz breaking the news to her.
A surprised expression was on Amity's face, even Edric and Emira were surprised but smiled.
"Wait, so a while back you told me you were enrolling but now Maxie is going to enrolling too?" said Amity.
There was a moment of silence and both Amity, Edric and Emira both were showing a look of surprise when they heard this. They looked at one another and back at them. Maxwell blushed deeply as he still was getting used to Edric and Emira, he drew a sensu fan out of the sleeve of his shirt faster than a samurai draws their sword and he used it to cover his face, blushing deeper than ever. This left Amity, Edric and Emira confused at first but Luz knew what it was.
"Was it something we said?" asked Edric looking confused.
"No, it's something else. Edric, Emira. Please don't take this the wrong way or anything but Maxie's still a bit nervous around you two. Now I know you two didn't do anything wrong recently but I think Maxie is still trying to warm up to both of you but he's a bit nervous." Luz explained while being polite about it.
Amity, Edric and Emira finally understood the reason why Maxwell was reacting with shyness around the twins and they realized that this was normal considering the circumstance of the last time Maxwell interacted with Edric and Emira.
"Maxie, we know what we did last time as a prank or more than one prank from the looks of it from our last encounter. But we're done with pranking, we've seen the light." said Edric with a word of comfort.
Maxwell managed to stop shaking as he heard Edric showing comfort and kindness in his voice.
"We know we got you involved in the situation last time we met, but we're trying to turn over a new leaf if you will. Now that we're trying to turn over a new leaf, we're starting to be nicer to our younger sister and we haven't caused any mischief since than. The closest thing to mischief we ever did get involved in was telling simple jokes but not worry, honey, we're not pulling any jokes." Emira said with her word of comfort. "Would you possibly feel better if we were to, you know, hug each other? Or shake hands?"
Maxwell started to feel his fear, nervousness and shyness of the twins starting to disappear but he had an idea to prove they were telling him the truth. He swallowed his fear and closed the sensu fan and placed it back in the sleeve of his shirt. He showed a stoic expression towards them.
"I know a way to prove that you two are telling the truth. Or at least an idea on to prove that you're telling me the truth." said Maxwell showing no fear.
"We're listening." said Edric and Emira in unison.
"Both of you hold out one hand and make sure that both of you are holding onto the others hand. I'll take it from there." Maxwell instructed.
Edric and Emira both looked confused but they took one look at each other but shrugged their shoulders with an optimistic expression. They looked at Maxwell and both held out one hand. Edric held out his left hand while Emira held out her right hand. They both grabbed hold of each others hand.
"Relax." Maxwell told them.
Maxwell reached his left hand out to place on top of their hands and within a minute, both Maxwell, Edric and Emira's eyes started to glow a white and Maxwell explored their minds by going through their memories and so far, he didn't see any memories of them pulling pranks on anyone or causing mischief. He saw them helping Amity with anything, even if Amity wasn't too keen on letting them be involved at first, she allowed them to help her while they showed they apologized for the incident at the library and the incident from when they first met Maxwell that the twins were responsible for.
Everything faded to black as both Maxwell, Edric and Emira's eyes turned back to their original color and they removed their hands from the other. Maxwell's stoic expression turned to a small bit of compassion.
"They're telling the truth. They're good." said Maxwell relieved.
"That's one way to tell if someone is telling the truth." said Emira.
"So you're going to be attending Hexside with Luz and the rest of us? Sounds cool, just like how cool it was when you took down that unevolved vampire." Edric said looking thrilled.
Maxwell showed no surprise on his face as he suspected everyone and the rest of the Blight siblings to have seen that event.
"You saw that?" said Maxwell.
"The whole school saw it and someone put it on Penstagram." said Edric with a grin.
"Is that a social media that only people here at the Boiling Isles can use?" asked Maxwell. "Reading your memories and your minds, well, I came across that and took a gander at some of the memories that explained it. I see Amity, Willow and Gus use it. Even Boscha."
"You got it. Take a look." said Edric,
What looked like a purple scroll appeared out of nowhere from Amity and she had opened it as she showed the video of Maxwell battling against the unevolved vampire at Hexside. The video had a title to it that read "Human Warrior Battles Vampire" the video lasted a few minutes till it ended once the video showed the unevolved vampire being killed by Maxwell as he used his cross to slapped it against the creature's face with a punch and it burned on fire, turning to dust.
"It actually gotten over five million views and growing." said Amity as she made the purple scroll disappear in thin air.
Maxwell and Luz whistled out of surprise. Over five million views and growing? That video had become popular in a short amount of time like a viral video.
"That's surprising." said Luz and Maxwell in unison.
"Makes me wonder if these two lovable kids are dating." chuckled Emira.
"No, we're not!" said Luz confirming it.
"What Luz said." Maxwell replied.
"Oh? So you're still single?" asked Emira looking interested.
"Nope! I'm already dating a woman, and she's the most beautiful lady in the world to me." said Maxwell revealing the truth.
"Oh? Who?" said the twins in unison.
"Not to be rude or anything but would it be cool with you guys if I kept that to myself? I don't like to blab everything about my personal life to every person out there. I don't like bragging. I apologize for that." said Maxwell showing he was trying to be kind about it.
Both Edric and Emira felt like they understood since they see Maxwell is the polite sort of individual from what they've seen when they're around him.
"Sure. That's cool with us." said Edric kindly.
"Don't mean to change the subject but Maxie, do you happen to know anything about what you're required to do in order to be in even my class?" said Amity showing concern. "That, and a placement exam."
Maxwell showed he had no clue about what Amity was talking about.
"I got no idea." Maxwell replied.
Luz saw this meant that Maxwell doesn't know about the requirements in order to get into classes that even Amity takes or to even be let inside to attend Hexside. She pulled out the brochure of Hexside and showed Maxwell the two requirements it listed. The brochure showed "Advanced Requirements" in gold lettering with the two requirements reading "Two Spells Minimum" and "Ancient Ruins" in dark blue lettering. Maxwell took a look at that before Luz put the brochure away.
"I take it this includes Luz too?" asked Maxwell curiously.
"That is does, I already know the light spell and the ice spell. Me, Eda, Amity, Edric and Emira did some practicing at the knee of the Boiling Isles. It was a bit rocky at first but everything got resolved and I learned a second spell." explained Luz showing optimism.
"I thought you just had to enroll and that was it." said Maxwell looking surprised.
"Quit giving him a hard time, Mittens." said Emira kindly.
"Yeah, of course he knows two spells, right Maxie?" said Edric wanting to confirm it.
"You've seen me use more than two before." said Maxwell reminding them.
The three Blight children took a moment to think and it was like they forgot but suddenly remembered as they were there to see the event of Maxwell battling against the unevolved vampire and he used more than one spell.
"Oh, sorry, I forgot." said Emira blushing.
"Nothing to worry about. Short term memory, happens to the best of us." Maxwell reassured.
Maxwell was about to say more but his body froze and his eyes turned completely white as he started to see a vision of something inside his mind. What he saw in his mind was that somewhere in an arctic region of the Boiling Isles, there was a man that was wandering around the area. It appeared to be the man that gave him his power. He appeared to be sitting somewhere in the location, looking like he was in a yoga position.
"Tell me where Maxwell Logan is." the man said.
Maxwell's vision faded to black and his sight came back as his eyes turned back to blue as he was laying down on the ground, being held in Luz's arms. He was fully awake now.
"Maxie, everything alright!" asked Luz almost panicking.
"He's at the knee!" said Maxwell.
Luz and Amity pulled him up to his feet as everyone there was confused to what he meant.
"Whose at the knee?" asked Luz curiously.
Maxwell pulled Luz to his side and he whispered in her ear to explain everything and Luz was wide eyed at what he told her.
"Oh! You mean him?" said Luz understanding.
"Something wrong, guys?" asked Edric curiously.
"Long story, no time to explain, got to go, talk later!" said Maxwell really fast.
Maxwell knelt down and Luz knew what this meant. She climbed on Maxwell's back and wrapped her arms and legs around him to make sure she could hold onto him and wouldn't fall off and started to run faster than he usually runs. Both Luz and Maxwell were headed straight in the direction that would lead them back to the Owl House. Maxwell ran at what looked like the speed of super human abilities. The two human teenagers had a lead on where the man that gave Maxwell his power could be located.
