Sam paced back and forth alone in the Quartermaine living room. Danny was super excited when Drew suggested he come back to the house for a sleepover and of course Danny wanted Drew to put him to bed. Sam smiled as she thought about how good Drew was with Danny, what a good father he was to both kids. A small pang of guilt washed over her when she thought about how happy they all were together and how that was all taken away when she told Drew about her feelings for Jason. She walked around the room and flopped down on the couch letting out a big sigh. She rubbed her hands over her face and pushed the hair out of her eyes. Tapping her foot anxiously she began to flip through the magazines and papers on the coffee table.

"I need a distraction," Sam whispered to herself. Suddenly, she spotted Drew's iPad. She remembered he had told her he got video of Scout when they were at the park last, feeding the ducks and jabbering with them.

"That ought to do it!" Sam exclaimed quietly, "A video of my little angel." She beamed with pride as she waited for the video to load. Sam's face fell and a look of confusion crossed her face when she saw Drew's face pop up instead of Scout. Sam sat up a bit in her seat as she heard Drew begin to speak.

"Oh Scout, what can I say about her, except that she's perfect. She's the best little daughter anyone could ever ask for. That's right buddy, you are a father."

Sam's eyes began to fill with tears. Had Drew recorded memories of everyone? Of her? Is that why he had the few memories he did and why he felt drawn to her? It really wasn't a pure connection?

Sam scrolled through the videos until she found one labeled, "Sam." She let out a small little groan and darted her eyes back and forth. She laid the iPad down next to her and hugged her arms a bit. Maybe she had been wrong this whole time. What Drew was feeling wasn't a strong connection to their love, but was just based on things he had told himself.

Suddenly, Sam felt the urgent need to leave. She needed to go home and think about things. Think about why Drew would lie to her and let her believe his feelings were organic. As she got up and turned to go, she saw Drew standing there right next to her. He must have been standing there for a few minutes because she saw a look of hurt and pain on his face.

Sam quickly began to explain. "I-I was trying to pass the time, waiting for you, so I decided to look for that video you said you took of Scout in the park," she squeaked out fighting back tears.

"I see," Drew replies flatly, moving past her and picking up the iPad. "I'm guessing by the look on your face and the fact you were just about to run out of here that you didn't find what you expected."

"No," Sam responded somberly.

"So, ask me." Drew chided.

"Ask you what?" Sam pretended not to know what he was talking about.

"I know you saw the video with your name on it Sam. I know you think that I influenced myself about my feelings for you." Drew coldly replies.

Sam sighed out deeply. She could sense already that she had mis-read the situation. She reached out to touch Drew on the arm. He pulled it back sharply.

"Drew, listen, I – I, just, I saw the vid….."

Drew cut her off quickly.

"Open it." He annoyingly grunts as he shoves the iPad closer to Sam.

Sam raises her arms up and steps back to avoid receiving the device.

"Drew, I don't need…."

"Yes, you obviously do, need to. 30 seconds ago you were ready to bolt out of here without even talking to me about this, so yes, Sam, I truly think you need to watch the video." Drew calmed his annoyance a bit and stepped in closer to Sam. He gently placed his hand on hers and guided her to sit down. Once seated Drew easily set the iPad in her lap and touched her on the knee.

"Sam, look, I'm sorry I was annoyed. I let my temper get the best of me sometimes. Let me just say that I don't want to play games with you. If we are going to be trying to see if we can have a relationship, we need to be able to talk about things. You can't just run out or avoid situations when you get uncomfortable."

Sam closed her eyes briefly and rubbed her face. She knew that Drew was right. She had been running and hiding from her feelings for Jason and for Drew, still, even after all these months.

"Play it Sam. You need to see it," Drew urged.

Sam looked over at Drew and gave a little half smile. She pushed her hair back out of her face and pushed the video to begin playing.

"Sam, what can I say about Sam." She heard Drew's voice boom. "Actually, I'm not going to tell you anything about Sam. You need to figure that one out for yourself, buddy. In the end, you'll be grateful you did."

Sam looked up from the iPad and right into Drew's eyes. She couldn't believe it, he hadn't influenced himself, he hadn't said a word about her!

"Oh Drew!" Sam cried out as she reached over and hugged him tightly.

"I'm so sorry I jumped to the wrong conclusions!"

Drew chuckled softly and caressed Sam's back.

"It's okay, I'm not sure I wouldn't have done the same thing," Drew consoles. He pushes back out of the embrace and lifts Sam's chin up to look her in the eyes.

"I meant what I said though, we need to actually talk about things, not be running away." He places his thumb on her cheek and gently wipes away a tear streaming down her face.

Sam, nods her head and lets out a loud sigh.

"I know, I just get scared and my first instinct is to run away."

"I get that, I understand that, especially now, things are so, complicated." Drew quietly trails off, remembering that he has to tell Sam about what happened with Jo in his office.

Drew pushes up off the couch and walks over toward the double doors. The moon was shining brightly and he could see a ton of stars. He knew Sam would be hurt by what he had to tell her, but he just couldn't hide it from her. He had his own soul searching to do and she deserved to know that.

He turned back around and made his way over to the couch to sit next to Sam. He grabbed her hands and looked her in the eyes.

"Sam, I have to tell you something," he begins quietly.

"It's okay, I know. I know you slept with Jo," Sam whispers and lowers her head.

Drew reaches his finger out under her chin and lifts her head to look at him again.

"Actually, no, I didn't sleep with Jo, that's not why she was in my room this morning," Drew explains.

Sam arched her back slightly and let a small smile creep across her face. Drew grabs her hands tighter knowing the words will hurt.

"I do have to tell you something about Jo and me, though. We have had a couple of intense encounters since she's been back and we almost slept together last night, but I swear we didn't. We – we do have a lot of 'history,' though." Drew choked out the words.

Sam shot up off the couch, breaking the connection with Drew's hands. She quickly walked around to the back of the sofa and began pacing around slowly.

"History, what kind of history?" Sam asked annoyed.

"The kind of history you are thinking. We have been 'together,' in the past." Drew plainly replies as he walks over near to Sam. He reached out to try and touch her arm but this time she was the one to jerk back quickly.

"So, you are telling me that you have a history of sleeping with this woman, but you didn't this time?" Sam angrily retorts.

Drew stepped back and began fidgeting with his ring finger. He was taken aback at Sam's lack of trust. As he understood it, he had never done anything to make her doubt him and all he was trying to do now was be honest.

"Look, Sam, I am just trying to be honest with you now. I know you and I are trying to work out what we are to each other now and I think it's important to be honest about everything. That includes what you are really doing with Jason all the time." As soon as he had spit out the words, Drew knew it was a mistake.

"What are you talking about, I told you, we are working a case together!" Sam wailed

"Sam, I'm sorry, I didn't mean….." Drew tried to grab Sam and pull her into a hug.

Sam quickly darted away and walked over to stand at the glass double doors. Drew took a deep breath in and slowly let it out. He closed his eyes and rubbed his face with his hands. He knew what he had to do and it was not going to be easy.

Drew walked around the couch and came up behind Sam. He was close enough to touch her but he didn't even try. She had her arms folded across her chest and he could see she was quietly crying.

"Sam," he began softly. "Please turn around and look at me."

Sam hesitated for a moment and then turned around. She had an annoyed look on her face and wouldn't really look at Drew.

"Please look at me, Sam," Drew pleaded.

Sam relented and turned her eyes to him.

Drew brushed a small piece of hair out of Sam's face and touched her cheek softly.

"I think we need to spend time apart, figuring things out, Sam. I need to see if I can get more of my memories back and I need to do that on my own. Plus, now I have Jo and those feelings to think about, I have my feelings for you and you have…Jason and whatever you feel for me to figure out," Drew softly explained. "Right now, we are letting the intense connection we have drive us, but we don't even know what it means. Well, at least, I don't know what it means, I don't want to speak for you," he chuckles.

Sam smiled slightly and bit her lower lip.

"No, you are right, I don't know what it means either. I do have feelings for you, but you are right, I still have feelings for Jason too, or I think I do. Aagh!" Sam cries out in frustration and tugs at the sides of her hair.

Drew reaches up and grabs her hands placing them in his.

"It's okay. I get it. I'm not sure I fully got it until Jo showed up. I mean, I don't remember before, as you know, but I'm just guessing that I couldn't have really understood what you were going through, but I do now. I think this is the best thing for both of us. We need time to think and to realize what we want. Obviously, we will still co-parent Scout and I will hang out with Danny anytime, that kid is great!" Drew smiles and laughs. "Other than that, though, I think we need to keep our distance and see how things play out."

Sam shifted back and forth on her feet and wiggled her shoulders a bit. She knew Drew was right but it hurt to hear it out loud. They both needed time to figure out what they wanted and how they felt.

"I know you are right, Drew, it just hurts, so damn much." Sam tearily replied.

Drew wiped the tears from her eyes and then slowly walked over to the desk. His suit jacket was draped over the back of the chair and he grabbed it and began digging through the inside pocket.

Sam had a perplexed look on her face, what was he looking for?

Drew walked back over to Sam holding a small white envelope.

"Here, I want you to have this," Drew insisted.

Sam took it from his hands and could see that it was still sealed up. She flipped it over a few times trying to discern what it might be.

"What's this," she inquires.

"I didn't make a video about you Sam, but I did write a letter. I wrote it before the procedure and gave it to Andre. He sent it back to me once I got back to town. As you see, I never opened it. I didn't want to be influenced by anything, not even my own words. I wanted to find out for myself about my life here. So far, it's been pretty incredible." Drew sweetly recounts.

A wide smile forms on Sam's face. It made her happy to know that Drew was delighted with the life he found here, even though he didn't remember all of it.

"I want you to keep it. I've been carrying it around with me this whole time to remind me how lucky I am, that, that procedure even worked. I want you to have it now, you should even read it, I know I meant every word of it."

Sam clasps the envelope tightly to her chest and then folds it and puts it in her back pocket.

"It's getting kind of late, I guess I should get home," Sam mutters quietly.

"Yeah, it's about that time, isn't it," Drew quips. They both reach out and step into a quick hug. Drew gently places his cheek against Sam's head and pats her on the back. Sam squeezes Drew's arm and then swiftly walks out of the room.

Drew exhales deeply and walks over to the French doors and opens them. A rush of night air floods the room. He can hear crickets chirping and the slight scent of the nearby flowers. What a night it had been. Drew had been so caught up in talking with Sam that he hadn't noticed his head was throbbing. He walked over to the tray of drinks and poured himself a glass of water. He walked over to the couch, sat down and took a few sips of the cool liquid. He began breathing deeply in and out to ease the pain. Just as he began to relax, he heard footsteps walk into the room.

"Hey, Jo," Drew said, without even turning around.

Jo was surprised he knew it was her without even checking.

"How did you know it was me?" she quizzes.

"C'mon, after all these years, I'd know that perfume anywhere," he quips.

Jo chuckles a little and sits down on the cushion next to Drew. She puts her hand on his thigh and gets a serious look on her face.

"Drew, we really need to talk."
