Sam sat alone in the penthouse, she curled her legs up under herself as she sipped her whine and sunk down into the cushion of the sofa. The place was eerily quiet. With both kids staying with Drew tonight she had the place to herself and she wasn't sure she liked it. Being completely alone with her thoughts is something she had not been in a long while and it kind of scared her. She stared toward the coffee table, at the small white envelope she had gotten from Drew.
"I wonder what he wrote about me," she whispered quietly. She pursed her lips back and forth as she contemplated opening the envelope and just reading it. She was hesitant. Whatever Drew wrote in that letter was how he truly felt about her, what he wanted himself to know about her if he didn't remember her. Sam wasn't sure if she was ready to know that particular truth just yet.
Sam let out a big sigh, leaned her head back and closed her eyes gently. She thought back to the night that Jason came crashing back through the skylight at the metro court. The night that her life truly got turned upside down. She started to feel the guilt creep into her thoughts again, guilt over not realizing Drew wasn't Jason.
"No! Stop it!" She cried out to herself loudly. She shot up off the couch and went over to look out the balcony doors at the starlight.
"I have to stop feeling so guilty. Jason is back now, he has his life back. I can't change the past," Sam scolded herself. She folded her arms across her chest and rubbed her hands along the sides of her arms. She started thinking about Jason and how he did have his life back. His old life, the exact same life he left 7 years ago. Working for Sonny, handling Carly's every crisis. Sam thought back to when Jason was gone, before she met Drew and how she had handled her life just fine, even fell in love with Patrick and had a "normal," life. She remembered being happy and even though there wasn't the constant adrenaline rush of danger and adventure at every turn, she kind of liked it. Her thoughts then went to when she thought Drew was Jason, how they both had somewhat fallen back into old patterns, but had had so many close calls with death. How could she keep doing that? How could she not think about her kids now and what they needed? Thinking about Danny and Scout made her smile. Her beautiful miracle children that she had yearned for, for so long that she finally had.
She rubbed her hand along her face and let out a low groan. She really needed to get this figured out. These feelings she had for both men. Suddenly, she realized that she really needed time alone, to get out of Port Charles and go somewhere by herself and think for a few days. She knew Scout would be okay with Drew at Monica's, so she would just need to make arrangements for Danny.Sam kind of crinkled her nose up a little bit and rolled her eyes slightly. She would have to call Jason for arrangements for Danny. It's not that she minded talking with him, but he would want to know what was going on and if she was 'ok,' she just didn't feel like letting anyone know what she was doing.
Suddenly a sly smile crept across Sam's face, "that's it!" She exclaimed to herself.
She set her glass of whine on the table and then quickly turned and headed upstairs.
After a few minutes, Sam came bounding down the staircase with a duffel bag in hand, her small black leather jacket, the one Drew had given her for her birthday a couple years ago, draped over her arm. She scanned the room looking for her cell phone and found it on the coffee table. She picked it up and shoved it in her back pocket. The small white envelope from Drew caught her eye and she stared at it for a second. She then scooped it up, folded it and shoved it into her pocket, "I'm going to figure out what to do with you while I'm gone," she mumbled to herself. She took a quick glance around the room to see if she needed anything else and then turned and headed for the door. She grabbed her keys off the desk as she turned the lights off and opened the door locking it behind her.
Once she was out in the hallway and waiting for the elevator, she pulled her cell phone out of her pocket. She dialed her mom's number. She wasn't sure if she wanted her mom to pick up or to have to leave a message, she wasn't in the mood for a lot of questions. Right in the middle of her thought, she heard the other end of the line pick up.
"Voicemail, Yes!" Sam was elated she wouldn't need to get grilled by her mother.
"Mom, hey it's Sam. Listen, I need to go out of town for a couple of days, can you please help me with Danny? I'm not really sure what Jason's schedule looks like and, anyway, Danny is staying at Monica's tonight, so can you just pick him up there for me tomorrow? I gotta go! I'll call you when I can. Thanks, Love you!"
Sam hung up the phone and shoved it back into her pocket. She was happy she didn't have to explain herself to her mother or tell any lies about why she was going out of town. Sam tapped her foot while she waited impatiently for the elevator.
Suddenly, she got a bad feeling that someone was behind her. As soon as she turned to look, she felt a sharp prick in the back of her neck. Immediately, Sam felt her body start to go limp and her vision getting fuzzy. She tried to turn around to see what had just happened but as she did, she fell backwards and everything went black.
Earlier….
Kim burst into her apartment in a rush. She wanted to get Danny's jacket out of her bag and into her special box before Julian could see it. He was supposed to be coming over for dinner tonight and Kim was running behind on getting prepared. She hadn't planned on following Drew around all day, but when she saw him in the park with Danny, she couldn't help herself. Drew was so wonderful with the little boy. Talking with him, playing and joking around. The two had a fun day. Kim only wished that she could be right there standing next to Drew being a family together.
Kim went to the closet and pulled out the box where she had stashed Drew's watch and Scout's doll. She checked the clock to see what time it was and if she had enough time to pull the items out and hold them. She only had about an hour before Julian would be there and she still needed to get something prepared for dinner. She decided that she better just stuff the jacket in and get the box back into it's hiding place in the closet, so she could get ready for "Charlie."
Just as she was closing the lid on her box of treasure's she heard her cell phone beep. Walking over to the counter where she had tossed her purse, she pulled out her phone to check her text.
"Hey Kim, I'm really sorry. I need to go out of town for a couple of days. Ava had an art deal she's doing in New York and she wanted some company. I'm sorry I'll miss dinner tonight, but I promise, I'll make it up to you. Love you, Charlie."
A devious smile crept across Kim's face. She was glad, now she would get alone time with her, "special treasures."
She walked back over to the sofa table where she had left the box. She picked it up and carried it with her to the couch. She sat down and folded her legs underneath her setting the box in her lap.
First, she pulled out Drew's watch. She rubbed the face lightly with her thumb. She held the watch up to her face and then to her ear to listen to it ticking. After a few seconds she slipped the watch onto her tiny wrist and it slipped down to rest around her hand. She then picked up Scout's doll. She patted the doll on the head and stroked the small strands of hair. She brought the doll up to rest on her shoulder and Kim patted the doll on the back gently, as if it were a real baby. She began to sway slightly back and forth as she sat there and hummed quietly. After a few minutes with the doll, she focused her attention on Danny's jacket. She remembered how earlier she caught a scent of Drew's cologne and wondered if she would again. She brought the fabric up to her face and buried her nose in it deeply. She smiled widely when she smelled the sweet scent of Drew's cologne. She thought back to seeing Drew and Danny in the park playing earlier that day. She remembered following them to Kelly's and seeing them go inside. Kim smiled and chuckled to herself just a little as she imagined meeting Drew there and she touched her fingers to her lips when she pictured him greeting her with a sweet peck from his lips. As she sat that there thinking her deranged illusion, the thoughts of what she actually witnessed earlier, crept into her mind.
"Sam!" She called out quietly. The happiness in her face turned to anger as she recalled watching Drew meet up with Sam and sit in the diner laughing and chatting with her and Danny.
"I need him to see me, to want me!" She shouted out to her empty apartment. "How can I make him see me?" She asked herself. Suddenly, her eyes lit up with an idea. She shoved all the items onto the couch next to her and went back into the closet. This time she pulled out her medical bag. She rummaged through it for a few seconds and called out in delight, "A-ha!" She had found what she was looking for.
Kim pulled a small syringe from the bag and tapped in lightly with her finger.
"Yes," she thought to herself, "this is what I need for my plan."
"Then, he'll definitely see me," she mumbled aloud.
She took the syringe and shoved it in her pocket. She then brushed the hair out of her face and rubbed her hands along her thighs. She looked around the apartment for anything else she might need. She spotted her "treasures," still laid out on the couch. She went over and carefully placed everything back into the box and closed the lid. Walking over to the closet she placed the box on the high shelf and shut the door. After she shut the door, she leaned up against it for a few minutes and closed her eyes. Slowly, she slid down the door and sat on the floor with her knees in her chest. She put her head in her hands and began to sob quietly. All these years, all she wanted is for Drew to notice her, to want her, to be with her, to kiss her and hold her the way he did Jo and now Sam. This was her chance to make it happen. She was going to get what she wanted no matter what. Kim raised her head out of her hands and roughly wiped the tears from her face. She stood up quickly and opened the closet door once more. She rifled around in some storage boxes until she had found a pair of gloves. She carried them over to the counter where she had left her purse. She tossed the gloves and the syringe into her bag quickly. Having everything she needed she slung the purse over her shoulder and walked over to the door. She gave the room one more glance around to be sure she didn't leave out anything incriminating. She turned out the lights to her apartment and let out a big sigh as she opened her door and stepped into the hallway. This was it, tonight she was going to begin to make her dream come true. She would have Drew, no matter what she had to do.
