Sam sat with her back against the cold cinderblock wall, near the door of the room, she was being held in. She had been keeping her mind busy by formulating a plan to attack Kim when she came back to check on her and knock that bitch out. Sam kept going over the details in her head so that she could keep herself sharp. She was pretty tired since she hadn't been able to get much sleep and she had, had very little to eat in the last few days. She was fighting the fatigue and weakness she was feeling and trying to conserve all her energy and strength to fight for her life whenever Kim showed back up. Sam knew no one would really be worried about her since she had let her mom know that she was going out of town for a few days. She had been tracking how often she had seen the sunlight peek through the small window that provided her only light. She knew it was the start of the third day that she had been locked in her prison. She thought if she could grab Kim and knock her out, she would make a run for it and gain her freedom. Sam thought about her kids and how she wished she could hold them close right now. She knew she had to stay alive for them and do whatever it took to get back to them. Just then she heard a rattling outside the door. Sam bolted up from the floor. Her chance at freedom had arrived. She planted her feet and held her arms out ready to grab Kim and fight like hell to get out of this place. The door opened slowly. Just as Sam was about to lunge at the person coming through the door, she stopped herself. It wasn't Kim stepping into the room. It was someone, who was clearly out cold, being wheeled in from a wheelchair. Kim was pushing the chair from behind, grunting and groaning from the strength she was expending.
"I've brought you some company," Kim says flatly. She pushes the chair completely into the room and shuts the door behind her.
Sam still taken aback moves in front of the chair and begins to inspect the person sitting in it. The person's head was tilted down, and it was bobbing back and forth listlessly. Their mane of hair was covering their face so Sam couldn't make out who it was at first.
She took a step closer to the chair and gently parted the hair, raising up the person's head so she could get a look at their face.
"Jo?!" Sam exclaimed. "What did you do to her?"
"Calm down, no need to get excited, she'll be fine. Like you, I needed to make her a bit more, 'compliant." Kim sneered.
"What the hell is wrong with you? What is your end game here Kim? I'm pretty sure Drew is going to notice when his friend doesn't come home tonight." Sam chastises.
Kim, ignores Sam's criticisms and scurries around the chair, setting it in place and pushing the brakes on. She pushes past Sam and stands in front of the chair reaching her arms under Jo's to lift her out. Kim then shuffles a few steps away and places Jo's limp body on the cold ground.
Sam rushes over to check Jo's pulse. She can feel that her heart is beating steady and can hear that the woman is breathing.
Kim, pulls a bag from the seat where she had set it beside Jo, to make it easier for her to carry.
Aggravated that Kim seems to not even realize Sam is there, she begins to start questioning the woman again.
"Kim, hey, I was thinking if you told me what you are trying to accomplish, maybe I could help you? I'm pretty good at figuring out solutions to problems, or maybe I could talk to someone for you, is, is this about Drew? Maybe I could talk to him for you?"
Kim pauses from rifling through the bag and looks over toward Sam. She had a blank look on her face until she registered what Sam was saying. When Kim heard Drew's name her eyes narrowed and she straightened her back slightly. She walked over to Sam and grabbed her by the arm.
"You aren't going to go anywhere near Drew!" She spat fiercely. "He's mine and I'm going to have him all to myself! Now, he'll have no other distractions and he and I can be together and be a family, finally!"
Sam jerked her arm out of Kim's grip and stepped back a few steps. Kim's words disturbed Sam. What did she mean her and Drew would be a family? Did she mean with Oscar? Sam wanted to try and get more information from her, but she had to be careful not to get her suspicious.
"Okay, hey, it's okay, I get it. I mean, Drew, he's a great guy, a wonderful father. He's very loving and giving, anyone would want him for a father. I bet Oscar will be very happy to keep a relationship with Drew, I know the biology won't mean anything to Drew and I know Oscar adored him." Sam cautiously and quietly spoke to the unstable woman.
Kim seemed to be hearing Sam this time. Sam could tell by her facial expressions that she was taking in what she was saying and understanding it.
Kim walked back over to the wheelchair and again began digging around in the bag. She pulled out a few bottles of water and a few more apples. She had also included a box of crackers in her supplies this time. As she took the items out of the bag and placed them on the floor next to Jo, she began to respond to Sam.
"You are right about Drew, he is a wonderful man. I'm sure he will be more than happy to keep being a father to Oscar, I never wanted Peter as Oscar's father anyway, that's why I lied. And no, Drew won't care about biology with my son, just like I won't care about the biology of his daughter." Kim plainly replied as she pushed the brakes up on the wheels of the chair and began to push it toward the door.
When Kim mentioned Scout Sam's blood ran cold. She thought to herself, there is no way in hell this bitch is getting anywhere near my daughter! Sam sprang into action and turned to lunge towards Kim.
Just as Sam was getting closer, she saw a glint of something shine in the light.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you. Unless you have a death wish, that is. I'm a doctor and I'm pretty good with one of these." Kim seethes as she holds a scalpel out in front of her, pointing it and jabbing it towards Sam.
Sam steps back slightly and cools her urge to pummel Kim.
"Okay, okay, I'll step back. Please Kim, don't hurt my daughter." Sam begs.
"Hurt her, I would never do that!" Kim exclaims. "As I said before Drew and I will be very happy. One big happy family." Kim reaches behind her and with one hand opens the door. Still holding the scalpel in her other hand and wielding it threatening at Sam. Kim pushes the wheelchair out of the room and edges closer to the door. Sam, realizing that Kim's plan could be to leave her and Jo here to die, she tries one last time to get her to open up.
"Wait, Kim, please! Can you please tell me, you're, you're coming back, right? To bring Jo and me more food? And, and what about Jo, is she okay, is she going to wake up? Please, Kim, I have a son too, Danny, he needs me." Sam pleads, tears streaming down her face.
Kim looks over to Jo and smiles an eerie smile. She glances back at Sam and then runs her fingers through her hair. Flashing Sam a half smile she gets a crazy look on her face.
"Don't worry Sam, Jo will wake up. I only gave her what I gave you. You two will have lots of time to bond together, beforeā¦.before the end. And don't worry about Danny, I have a plan for him too. He'll be just fine."
With those final ominous words Kim darted out the door and locked the door behind her. Sam lurched toward the evil woman again, but was too late to catch her before she disappeared behind the door.
"Kim! Kim!" Sam shouted banging on the door. Sam had tears streaming down her face. She was terrified at what that woman was planning to do to her children. Sam's panic began to overtake her. She had to get out of here and now. Someone had to hear her cries, she needed to get to her children and to Drew before this crazy delusional woman did something awful. She began to pound and kick on the door.
"Hello, anyone! Help! Please help!" Sam sputtered out through tears.
"What the hell is going on?" Jo asked quietly as she rubbed her hand on the top of her head. She placed her hand flat on the cold floor and pushed herself to a seated position. As she sat up the room began to spin and she felt very disoriented.
"What happened?" She asked again, cupping her hands on her head.
Sam rushed over and leaned down next to Jo. She touched her shoulder and rubbed it gently.
"Take it easy," Sam advised. "Whatever the hell, that stuff is Kim gave us, it does a number on you."
Jo looked over at Sam confused.
"Kim? She's the one that drugged me?"
"Yep."
"Wow, that bitch loves to poke me with needles." Jo replies brashly.
"What? She's done this before?" Sam asks, perplexed.
"Uh, yeah, it's a long story, that I don't really feel like getting in to now. I just need to sit here a bit longer with my eyes closed. At least until the room stops spinning." Jo retorts.
"Yeah sure, no problem," Sam cracks back. "It's not like were going anywhere." She mumbles under her breath.
Sam takes a deep breath in and slides her body until her back is against the wall. She pulls her legs up to her chest and wraps her arms around them hugging them close. She glances around the room quickly and then looks over at Jo. She didn't know how but she knew that she needed to get out of this dark, cold prison. She had to get back to her children and to Drew. Now that Jo was there with her, she hoped they could formulate a plan together. In the mean-time she needed to conserve her energy. She tilted her head back and let it rest against the concrete wall. Sam closed her eyes and breathed in deeply. She had been in worse situations than this before and had always made it through.
She vowed to herself right then, that she would make it out of this situation too. No matter what it took. She finally knew what she wanted. After all those months of uncertainty it was clear to her now and no one was going to stop her from putting her family back together.
