Leonardo stood out side of his little brother's lab, knowing full well that he could not be seen nor stopped, waiting like statue for Donnie to come out and give him the news that he needed to hear, though he wasn't sure it would be welcomed.
He could hear the youngest brother, Mikey trying to hum to whatever music he playing. However the orange clad turtle wasn't fooling anybody; he was worried about what become of Raph. Leo would see him peering over to the door every now and then.
It all started, when his younger brothers decided to head out. Leonardo stayed behind, doing mediation with splinter. Though, his farther couldn't see him, he wore a smile on his face, enjoying the pace. However that tranquility was short lived, when the two youngest brought second oldest in, blood seeping out of wounds covering a lot of his body, including having huge one on his side.
He and Splinter didn't know what the shell was going on; his brothers carried Raph's body into Donnie's lab at sonic speed. By the time they gotten to entrance and Mikey was shoved out, the doors closed.
After their father asked the orange clad turtle. Mikey told him everything despite talking fast at a few points. It seems that he, Donnie, and Raph all went to the place that they weren't supposed to go. The three youngest turtles found themselves on a giant sewer pipe that hung above some area that had sharp rock at the bottom because their brother in purple needed some special kind of algae when the youngest turned when he heard some noises and saw Raphael falling. Both of his younger brothers tried to stop him, but seem that it was too late and the result appeared to be what they had just witness.
Master splinter said they'll discuss it later and it that had what happened.
He would have gone in there to see Raph's doing okay, but unsure that'll be the best course to take.
Just then Donnie came of his lab, solving one of the problems that Leo had.
"Donnie." He said with a bit of relief.
Mikey soon joined in though his was much louder. The youngest turtle ran up to the tech savvy turtle. "Is Raph going to be okay?"
"Yes," Donnie replied. Though, there was always another side when the purple clad ninja replied when stuff like this is going around, much like double edge sword. "But the fall he took broke several bones and several deep cuts from the fall. He's going to need some rest and be put on pain killers for a while."
"That's great!"
Leo decided to leave his three family members with a smile, though there was something that doesn't feel right. The ghost made the move to go right through the doors and into Donnie's lab. There, he saw his first eldest brother lying on the bed, wrapped in badges. As he walked closer, he noticed Raph eyes were closed, most likely sleeping from the pain killers.
"Wow, he really gotten beat?" Leo asked to himself, standing in front of his brother's body.
"Leo?!" Raph opened his eyes and questioned.
The blue themed ghost jumped back with widen eyes that mirrored the Red clad turtle.
"Uh, hey Raph?" He greeted, insecure on how to react at the moment.
After rubbing his eyes and blinking a few times, the turtle in red questioned "So Mikey and Donnie weren't seeing things?"
"Yeah. I don't know how long this would last."
Leo saw that his brother looking away from him and at his feet, saying "Oh."
"What happen with Donnie? He acted like didn't remember that lizard thing that Sensei killed a while back?"
This time it was his brother who sighed with a sadden face. "Sorry Leo. I tried to get Sensei to keep some of his memories he had of you, but Don had terrible nightmares. That wouldn't go away."
The ghost flinched after the word 'nightmares' were said. "Why keep it a secret, about me?"
"Sensei said that the slightest bit knowledge that you were our brother could make him remember you and the nightmares might start up again."
"I see." He said, looking down with a sadden face that his purple brother would be not able to remember him. "Thanks." Leonardo gave his his smile, he could muster.
Raph returned with a grin himself before he asked "So what did Mikey say about me getting hurt, huh?"
"Mikey said that you fell off a pipe. Why did you go there?"
"Because I was trying to help Donnie."
"What?" Leo in shock. New one on him.
"Agh, Donnie had us go there to collect something on that pipe. He was about to slip when he was trying to get it, but saved his shell, I ended up falling off instead."
The spirit was shock at his green-eyed brother actually taking up the responsibility and pulling... Well, his tricks.
"I didn't mean to hurt anybody."
"I know you didn't."
"I wanted to toughen up Mikey and Donnie."
"So that's why you were always mean to Mikey and Don?" Leo questioned, glaring the turtle in red who glared back.
"Look, they have to learn not depend on me."
"That give you the right to treat like dirt?"
"Don't even start, Leo, you left us."
"I was only trying to save Donnie. Without me, he wouldn't have..." He ceased his speaking right there, already feeling tears wanting to leak out as he looked away.
It took a bit before he plucked up the courage and look at Raph. The red clad turtle now had sadden expression. No more words had to be spoken. It was clear as a polished diamond that he knew that his brother came to the conclusion of why he ran away not long after becoming a ghost and why he died.
"That's why Donnie was having all of those horrible dreams of not saving you in time."
"Yeah. All I wanted was to have fun with Donnie. I didn't think it turn out like this."
"So, what's going to happen to you now?" his green eyed brother asked raising an eye-brow.
He took another sigh. "Guess, I go back to watching you guys again without you seeing me?"
"I gonna miss you bro." His younger said with a grin.
"Me too. Don't go joining me anytime soon? I don't think Sensei would want to clear Donnie's memories again."
"As if, Donnie and Mikey would be hopeless without out me."
At that moment he ghost turned back with a beam despite the pain of wanting to talk to brother some more or at least argue and was about ready to leave when Raphael spoke up
"Hey, sorry Leo..."
The spirit knew what his younger brother was going to say. "It's alright, Raph." He said still keeping the same face.
"Thanks"
Just as he was about to leave the room, his other family members came in and walked passed him. He turned back and saw the others surrounding the red clad turtle.
"Hey, guys" He heard Raph greeted.
"Raph, I 'm sorry about making us go to that area. I should have-" Donnie seemed to wanted to say more, but Raph cut in.
"Enough Donnie, It's alright. I should have been more careful when I was backing up."
Just then, Master Splinter spoke up "It was brave that you were ready to save your brother with no regards to your own safety, Raphael. You'll make a fine leader, one day."
"Thanks Sensei."
Leo couldn't help, but smile at his father's complement.
"Dose this mean we're not in trouble?"
"No, you four are still in very much trouble."
At that moment, Leo flinched as the wise rat slapped his brother's cheeks with the back of his paw. Though, he had forgotten what pain felt like, the slap brought tons of memories back form when he was alive.
When the spirit opened his eyes, Splinter told his three younger brothers. "Now, four thousand excises, and no TV."
"Aw, Sensei."
"No butts."
Well, that went off better then expected.
As the days went on Leonardo noticed that Raph went back to not being able to see him. Though, the sight of his brother getting better each of those days did put a small smile on his face.
When he had nothing else to do, Leo sat next to his brother meditating a lot, wanting to make sure that he was okay. The ghost wasn't going to leave Raph by himself. This was his way of making it up to him.
