Mordor has fallen. Sauron has fallen. The Witch King has fallen. However, North Barrow Downs was still standing.
Aragorn, now king tells Arwen "There is one more place I have to visit. You will not like where it is. It is one of the last of Sauron's former strongholds"
Arwen says "North Barrow Downs? They may have no more allies as all of them have been destroyed or surrendered, but I don't want you near them."
Aragorn says, "I know the leader. I spared his life for him to make the choice of surrendering. I did not tell your father this, because I thought he would hate the news that I gave them a chance. True courage is not knowing when to take a life but to spare it."
Arwen says "Ok, but stay safe."
Aragorn heads to North Barrow Downs. He enters the same way that he did years ago. He knocks on the palace door and says "I am here to speak with your leader."
A guard from a balcony says "He won't speak to anyone who wants him to give up our land or put it under occupation."
Lareneg notices that Aragorn was there and tells the guard "It is ok, let him in."
Lareneg and Aragorn shake hands.
Aragorn says "We need to discuss some things."
Lareneg tells his wife, Sira "I have a meeting to deal with."
He tells Aragorn "This my wife, Sira."
She bears a close resemblance to a human woman but with extreme albinism. She has black hair and fair blue eyes.
She tells him "You were the one that spared us right?"
Aragorn tells her "Yes I was, and I am not here to punish you or your people."
The two sit down. Lareneg says "She is great. She has helped lose interest in war. I can say that in a way I am glad that we lost."
Aragorn says "That is great to hear. The only bad thing is that North Barrow Downs was involved in some atrocious acts that left many suffering. Even after the death of Basikov, military ties and training with forces like the Haradrim persisted. We found the bodies of a few high ranking Madaw members among the bodies of Haradrims and Easterlings at the Pelennor Fields. On top of that, I heard that my hobbit friends were attacked by one of your Madaw members when they briefly had to walk through North Barrow Downs. Your involvement was less direct, but your alliance was far from neutral."
Lareneg says "That is in the past, and in no way will I support any occupation. Even though we deserve punishments, I have gradually been reforming this place."
Aragorn says "Taking into consideration, you did some right by releasing the elven prisoners and ending the Barrow Downs War. We can not let you escape any punishment for the actions committed but your compliance shall reduce the punishment to only being watched by your neighbors to prevent any expansion by your lands as well as watch to prevent any weapons shipments, but otherwise, we will leave your place alone."
Lareneg said "I don't like your proposal, but I shall agree to it as I understand your concerns, and as long as we can live happily in our lands, some punishment may just have to be tolerated."
They walk outside the palace and Aragorn asks "Why haven't you destroyed this horrid statue?" as he observed the golden statue partly hidden by moss growing from the rocks that it was against.
Lareneg says "I know you dislike it but we can not afford to forget history. Basikov may a negative in history in your eyes , but for us, he started the improvement of our country and was a good friend."
Lareneg says " And don't take what I am about to say as glorification."
Aragorn says "What do you mean?"
Lareneg says "As much as the name Basikov may anger you, all he truly wanted was the life I have now. All he wanted was to have a wife and live normally. In many ways, he wanted a life like you have, just on a more simple level. He never had the goal of what he became. He was just serving his military duty, but was placed in a bad battalion. On top of that, his love only ever used him. He never felt encouraged by the community. Then, his battalion is taken up by Sauron and The Witch King and they had given him the encouragement he had ever so desired. Then they prop him as the new leader, using him to weaken the elves so Sauron would have an easier time getting the ring."
Aragorn says in a calm voice "I figured a lot of this already it out and it shocked me. I never expected his last words to be what they were."
Lareneg says "There is always shocking news about people you think you knew."
Lareneg says "Reforms, slowly went to encouraging Basikov's initial dreams, it initially felt odd abandoning the hostile nature, and even for me it was not easy. I may have abandoned it from the outside early on, but hatred and violence still strived with in me."
Aragorn says "What is done is done. It has been a pleasure speaking with you."
Lareneg puts out his hand.
Aragorn says "What is this?"
Lareneg says "You could use one more ally, my king."
All the Barrow Wights present vow to him.
Lareneg makes the announcement that "We have had many masters. Sauron. The Witch King. Basikov, but Aragorn promises us peace and freedom even after all the conflicts we were involved in that were opposed by the free people. I welcome you, King Aragorn."
All the Barrow Wights bow to King Aragorn. Lareneg smiles.
Aragorn rides off and returns to Minas Tirith.
Arwen says "I do not want to fight those Barrow Wights. They were a pain to take down."
Aragorn says "Don't worry, you won't have to."
Arwen says worriedly "Don't tell me, you or anyone else has to send soldiers there."
Aragorn says "No, we won't have to. Let's just say I may have made an accidental friend those years ago."
Arwen says "That general you spared, decides now to join our side? I can't believe any dark force would stop being a dark force."
Aragorn says "There is a lot about people you think you know, but don't. I learned stuff about Basikov that would have never been suspected."
He tells her the whole story.
Arwen is shocked that he was anything like that. She says "I am amazed that someone so horrid never wanted to be that way. However, I am glad to see the changes they have made. They are not the same ones that instilled fear into me and my father."
Aragorn says "Usually I would be very cautious, but they have no reason to continue fighting, and I can tell that Lareneg actually trusts me."
Arwen says "It is great to know that."
Aragorn hugs her by the shoulder and says "It makes me happy to see the change of heart, that they have gone through."
