Chapter 16: Plans and Confessions
The family woke up and had a calm breakfast. Once all was cleaned and away, they followed Vergil to an errand.
"Father, what are we doing in Fortuna?"
"We are here to settle a few things."
"I'm guessing formal matters?" Nero asked as he looked over his Order of the Sword uniform blended with the formal attire of an aristocrat. His father was dressed in a modern version of a Lord's mantle, with his family crest on the left lapel. Nero, as Heir, had it on the left shoulder. Mira had the crest on the right lapel of her Lady's coat. She was stunning in her formal wear, dressed in a scarlet red dress that reached her ankles and was close fitting, with her ruby and onyx choker, scarlet gloves and her hair in a French twist. Nero was in awe. His mother cut quite the figure of a regal lady. He snickered when he saw a lot of men checking his mother out. His father had his hair down as it was when he was V, white and slightly spiky, giving him a regal but ruggedly handsome look. A lot of ladies swooned. Again, Nero had to laugh. He himself allowed his hair to grow back to how it was when he was in the Order, just the back a bit longer, touching his shoulders. He had his share of admirers too, but he didn't pay attention, as he walked into the Council building beside his parents. The Council members bowed in greeting to his parents. The head Councilman looked familiar.
"Ah, Captain, it's good to see you again." Vergil said as he recognized the man from before who answered his call with the city evacuation. The man smiled and nodded.
"Lord Sparda, thank you for coming. Hello my Lady." Mira smiled. Nero was behind his mother, but the man saw him and gasped.
"Nero?" The captain asked. Nero came forward, head bowed. The man looked at the young man and placed a comforting hand on his shoulder.
"Nero look at me. What happened to Credo was not your fault."
"But I…"
"You weren't weak, we all make our own choices. Credo made his when he pledged his services to Sanctus, despite my wishes. You joined with him, but you went your own way while Credo followed blindly. At times, the hardest decision isn't always the easiest one." He looked to the older Spardas who nodded in agreement. "Yes, I lost my son, but I am so proud of you Nero, as your parents are. Therefore, we the Council have decided to pass the Order of the Sword, to you." Nero blinked in shock and his father grinned. Mira smiled and held her intended's arm. "Your Grandfather founded the Order, but Sanctus almost destroyed it. We removed the remainder of his followers and we have new recruits. They will need a stable leader and I'm getting up on years. Therefore," He nodded, and he was handed a box. Inside was the Order's main sigil and crest. "This was last worn by your Grandfather. It's only fitting, it is returned to you. Wear them with pride." Nero choked and Mira went over to their son, hugging him tight.
"We are so proud of you, kiddo." She whispered. Vergil held one of his hands out in silent request and the Captain handed over the box. Nero looked at his father and straightened up. Vergil nodded in approval and placed the sigil and crest onto his son's left and right lapels. Mira lightly brushed Nero's coat with her hands. The Captain also held out a sword. It was in navy blue, red, and black. On the pommel was the same crest and sigil. Again, Vergil held his hand out and the Captain complied.
"Nero, give me your sword." His father ordered gently. Nero unsheathed Red Queen and handed it to his father. His hands shimmered and he clashed both blades together, and before his eyes, Nero saw the swords combine into one blade! Red Queen was upgraded! Now she had the crest and sigil, the blue and red of Red Queen and like Yamato, was able to slash multiple times and judgement cut. Mira whistled.
"Neat trick Babe."
"It comes in handy sometimes." Vergil said with a grin as he handed the sword back to their son, who thanked him and admired the new blade. He noticed he didn't have to rev it up.
"She will also heat up in battle." Vergil said. "I added a fire elemental to that blade. She will power up when you trigger. Also, you may summon or recall her anytime you wish. Try it." Nero thought the blade to rest and Red Queen vanished, his right arm glowing a bit. He then held out his hand and summoned, and promptly, Red Queen was back in his hand.
"Wow, I take it back, that's awesome." Mira gasped. "We got the same trick kiddo."
"As do I." Vergil said with a grin. Mira raised an eyebrow. Vergil waved his hand and summoned the Mirage Edge. Mira's eyes widened.
"That's wicked." She said as she inspected the blade. It was like the Forced Edge, but it was encased in blue flame. She remembered the sword Nelo Angelo had and gasped.
"This is the sword you had when we fought on Mallet Island!" She said and Vergil nodded.
"Yes, my love it is. When I was freed, the sword reverted to its original shape, the Shadow Edge."
"Still a cool blade though." Mira grinned. "May I?"
"We do have a field." The Captain said with a grin and pointed. The Spardas grinned and went outside.
"This will be a first," Mira said as she took a stance in her dress. Vergil grinned. Oh yes, it is, and you look alluring in that dress, such a turn on! Oh, I think a wedding spar would be a grand idea…. Oh, it's hotter in here! He removed his coat and set it down next to his intended's then unsheathed Yamato. Mira grinned then summoned Dante, winked and blew a kiss. "Ready to have your ass kicked?"
"Come at me my love," The Lord declared. The lady dashed and they clashed. Nero and the Captain were awed, as they watched the fight.
"Nero, your parents love you very much, I can tell. Your father, aloof and standoffish he may be, he cherishes you and wants the best for you. And your mother, fiery as she is, she will die to protect you if necessary. They both would." Nero smiled and continued to watch. His parents had already taken to the air and were locked in battle and in a kiss. They broke away slowly and Mira giggled when a bird flew by.
"Wow, we are high up. I think we are on Cloud 9. I do not want to come down." Mira said. Vergil chuckled and nodded.
"We never will." Vergil said as he tucked a stray hair behind Mira's ear. "Another draw?"
"Yea, for now." Mira said with a smile. "Luckily, we didn't ruin our clothes."
"True, we have more to do." Vergil agreed. Both dismissed their weapons and made their way back down. Nero and the Captain greeted them, and Vergil put his coat on, fixed his hair, keeping it down, picked up his intended's coat and helped her into it. With a snap of her fingers Mira's hair fixed itself, a perfect French twist not a hair out of place.
"How did you do that?"
"Same as the weapons." She hinted. Vergil nodded and was impressed. So was Nero. The Spardas thanked the Captain and continued to a wedding shop, where they were greeted by Kyrie!
"Nero!" She greeted as she hugged him. Mira tapped Vergil's shoulder and pointed to the pair. He smiled and held Mira close.
"Those two will be walking down the aisle before we know it."
"Vergil let's not pressure him. Time will tell."
"True my love." He said. Kyrie smiled at them and hugged Mira.
"Lords and Lady, welcome and follow me please." She said, leading them to her office. Nero admired the place. Looks like Kyrie kept busy too. This is good! They were invited to sit, which they did, and Kyrie opened a book.
"You understand many in Fortuna will try to turn this wedding into the biggest event ever." She said. Nero groaned. He was quite sure his parents wanted something small and intimate.
"Well, we don't want a big fuss." Mira said and Nero smirked. He was right. "What do you think Babe?"
"I agree on not wanting a big fuss." His father said. "I do have a place in mind." Mira squeezed his hand, fear in her eyes. Not our home. He smiled and reassured her. "I was thinking the lake." Kyrie smiled. Nero smiled wide. The lake that his father had in mind was the most romantic and breathtaking view in Fortuna.
"Excellent choice!" She said as she wrote it down. Mira blinked. Vergil hugged her close and whispered.
"We will show you after this." He said, kissing Mira softly. Nero smirked. Mother is going to fall in love for sure!
"Cake?" She asked and Nero winced. Oh no, they like different cakes! Mira sat back on this.
"We like two different cakes. He likes Devils Food and I like Strawberry Shortcake." I'm screwed, I like both!
"Hm, maybe we can mix them? A Strawberry Devils Food?" Nero asked. That sounds a bit…kinky. He looked at his father, who was thinking the same thing but instead of blushing, he was grinning. Nero blushed.
"Hm, that sounds fun to try." Mira said with a small smile. Vergil nodded.
"Lord Sparda, why don't you show Lady Mira the lake, Nero and I can make a cake for you to sample." Mira and Vergil smiled at the idea and got up to leave.
"Ok Missy, call us when you're done cooking." Mira teased causing the younger pair to blush and her intended to chuckle darkly.
"Have fun," Vergil added, smirking as he escorted Mira out. Nero groaned and blushed as did Kyrie.
"Did you have to make the children blush like that Babe?" As they walked away from prying eyes.
"It was a wicked pleasure." Vergil chuckled. "I'm allowed a few of those. Are you ready?"
"Yea, lead on." She said. Vergil triggered and took to the air before hovering a bit. Mira smirked and triggered as well and caught up in three beats. They flew for a bit until they saw a crystalline lake surrounded by lush mountain forests and a beautiful view.
"Here we are." Vergil said as he pointed. Mira gasped and blinked.
"Oh wow…" She breathed. Vergil tapped her lightly and motioned for them to land. When they reached close to the ground, they de triggered and landed on their feet. Mira closed her eyes and breathed in the crisp pine and floral air. She also smelled the cool crisp water. The birds sang melodiously, and Mira smiled.
"Is this, where we'll…"
"Say our vows on our day? Yes, it is." Vergil said with a warm smile as he sat down at the edge of the cliff. "Come here my love, this is the best part." Mira came over and sat down next to him and gasped again at the beautiful mountain, the lake shimmering crystal, amber and amethyst with a hint of indigo. The sunset colored the sky with peach, rose, champagne, violet and a little blue. Mira looked at her intended and smiled.
"I love this place and I love you." She whispered as she leaned in, tilting her head. Vergil smiled warmly at her and caressed her face before cupping gently.
"I love you too my heart." He whispered, capturing her lips with his.
"Nero, this is great, your parents are getting married, and by the lake, it's so romantic!" She gushed. Nero smiled and sat back as they waited for the cake to bake. Kyrie saw that Nero had something in mind.
"Nero, what's wrong?"
"Kyrie I…I love you." He blurted out. The former songstress gasped and smiled.
"I love you too Nero, just like I loved Credo."
"I…what?"
"I'm sorry Nero but I only see you as a brother." At this Nero blinked then smiled. He was glad to have her in his life, even if as a sister. They hugged and laughed as they prepared the cake, both relieved that their feelings for the other were finally out in the open.
The couple returned to a noticeably quiet shop and both blinked before grinning. Mira and Vergil stepped in quietly and both yelped when the lights switched on, a smiling Nero and Kyrie holding a beautiful cake. It had sweet plump strawberries on top, iced marshmallow icing and the cake looked delicious.
"Oh wow, this looks amazing!" Mira said. Kyrie smiled and passed the knife to Nero. He sliced the cake and made sure everyone had a piece. Mira's eyes widened then closed at the delicious cake. A perfect harmony…Vergil was the real test. He took a piece and tried a bit. When his eyes closed as he savored the bite Nero mouthed yes! Both finished their pieces and nodded.
"That's the cake," Mira said. Vergil nodded.
"An ingenious creation." He said with a nod of approval. Mira smiled.
"So, did something happen with you two?" She asked.
"As a matter of fact, mother, yes." Nero said. Both leaned forward in their seats.
"We love each other, like brother and sister." Nero said. Mira blinked and Vergil tilted his head.
"This is curious,"
"What happened?"
"Nothing, we just don't have the same chemistry as you and Father do."
"Well, that does happen." Vergil said as he held Mira. "We like you no less."
"Thank you." Kyrie said with a smile. Mira smiled warmly and nodded.
"Well, let's continue, we have a wedding to plan."
