Chapter 18: Trouble on the Island

As promised, Vergil led them to a pair of mahogany double doors on the east wing of the villa. "These are to be our offices, studies and libraries. This one in particular," He opened the doors and Mira gasped. Decked out in scarlet and warm woods and a highly polished desk made from holly, with matching chair, was Mira's office!

"Oh my god!" She gasped as they walked in. Nero was shocked as well. There were shelves of books, and the Devils Arms had their own gallery room.

"Father, this is amazing!" He said as he admired the Arms.

"You have a similar office as well, with your Devil Arms." Vergil said. "My own office is next to your mother's." He pointed to a door that had a cyan crest that was on the east side of Mira's desk. "That door, connects my office to this one." He pointed to the door on the west and Nero gasped at the colors. Navy Blue and Red, the crest was in his colors! "Open it," His father encouraged. Nero opened the door and saw a warm but elegant office done up in dark brown woods with navy blue and red all around. Devil Arms that Nero won, and achievements were displayed in their own gallery room.

"Thank you, Father."

"You're both welcome." Vergil chuckled as he hugged Mira and graced Nero with a smile. "Now, where did we leave off on the wedding plans?" Nero blinked then pulled out his phone.

"We have the cake settled, the place, the date, hey it's before my birthday!" He looked up and smiled. His parents did not want to miss his birthday. "Oh, fittings…Mother, you'll need a gown while Father and I have to do formal wear. Do you have something in mind?"

"Well, I can't exactly wear white, your father popped my cherry!"

"And what a lovely cherry it was!" Vergil growled lowly with a wicked grin, blowing her a kiss. Nero blushed and so did his mother. Vergil laughed and hugged her and whispered heatedly. "So exquisite, alluring, your delicious screams and moans of pleasure igniting my lust... I can't wait to do it again."

"Oh, you Wicked Fuck." Mira whispered seductively before they kissed again. Nero groaned and shook his head. God they are horrible! Mira broke their kiss and giggled. "Oh, sorry kiddo." She tapped Vergil on the shoulder before the man went for her neck. "I do have a few ideas…. I'll be right back." The two men sat down and waited for her to come back. Which she did holding a black and red sketchbook in her hands. "Maybe one of these?" She asked shyly. Vergil took the book and opened it. Both men were impressed by her skill.

"Mother, these are amazing!"

"Yes they are my love," Vergil said as he looked through them. He gasped at the 10th one. "That's the dress." Nero looked at the sketch and smiled. It was a simple yet beautiful dress. It was close fitting on the top with a flowing skirt, a bolero jacket in off white and the trim was a mix of scarlet and red. On the bodice, there was some garnet and flecks of platinum. The dress was a mix of satin and lace. Mother is going to look so beautiful in this! Father, you have got GREAT taste!

"OK, what about a hairpiece? Veil? Crown?"

"Hair piece!" The men said. Mira sighed. She did not have the piece. But Nero knew where to get such a piece! He smirked and excused himself as he made a phone call.

"Devil May Cry?" Nico greeted. Nero smirked.

"Nico, we got a special order: a hair piece for my mother."

"No prob Bro, I got this!" Nico said. "I got the perfect piece for Demon Mama."

"I'm still shocked my father hasn't unleashed the wrath when you called him Demon Daddy."

"That's because he likes it." Mira said from behind Nero. "And I do not mind the Demon Mama title, it is who I am. Even though now I feel like baking cookies."

"Mother, where's Father?"

"He said he had to get something, and he left. Oh, is that Nico? Put her on speaker." Nero nodded and switched to speaker.

"Howdy Demon Mama," Nico greeted. "How's it goin' with Demon Daddy? Did he erupt yet?" Nero's jaw dropped but Mira grinned.

"That my dear Nicoletta, is classified." Mira said and Nico laughed. "So, what's going on?"

"I understand you want something special?"

"What do you have in mind?"

"Ye picked out a dress?"

"My own design." Mira said. Nico whistled.

"Demon Mama's got skills. Mind if I take a gander and a crack at it?"

"That would be nice, thank you!"

"You got it Demon Mama and no charge, just send the sketch when you can."

"Thank you so much Nico." Mira said with a smile.

"Aw shucks, you're welcome Demon Mama and congratulations."

Mira and Nero sent to the picture of the dress and Nero saw two that caught his eye. They were a design for a Lord and an Heir. Wow, she did designs for us too! I'll just snap these! He took out his camera phone and snapped good pics of the drawings and sent them to Nico before his mother caught him.

"Hey, I was wondering for dinner, an old-fashioned lasagna?"

"That sounds great, mother." Nero said. Mira smiled and went into the kitchen to prepare their dinner.

"Nero, let me know what Nico thinks of those other pictures you snapped and sent her." Nero yelped and Mira laughed.

"What? Didn't think I'd know?" Mira asked. "So much to learn."

Nico stopped the van when her phone pinged three times. She opened the messages and whistled. Oh, whee Mama has skills! These are great! Demon Daddy is going to look wicked good in this little number and Nero would look awesome! She grinned and drove to Kyrie's. She was going to need materials. She was about to worry about measurements, but another ping grabbed her attention. It was from Mira, and in it, her beautifully detailed notes on each of their measurements! Nico grinned and drove on. Now, she was set!

Vergil looked over the family home where he and Mira had been in their childhood and after taking a breath, walked through the hall. He looked around and was almost able to hear himself and his Mira (although concealed as Dante), running through the house, laughing, bickering and teasing. He chuckled when he looked over the chairs, remembering when they all sat to dinner and he managed to clock Dante with a dinner roll, in which Dante retaliated by spitting a cherry and smacking Vergil in the face with it. He remembered how stern their father became at the blatant signs of disrespect, especially at the dinner table. That stunt had them sparring with their father and doing house and garden work with their mother. While Dante enjoyed the garden work, Vergil wanted to book it.

He walked on to his father's study and remembered how they would settle down as their father read to them by a fire with their mother hugging them. He moved on to their old bedroom and chuckled as he sat by the window, his favorite spot to read. He blinked when he saw something black and fuzzy sticking out from under the bed by the window. He stood up and picked it up. It was a black panther plush animal. It had green eyes and it was well preserved.

"My, I haven't seen you in a long time." Vergil chuckled as he dusted it off. He carefully packed the toy and moved on. He walked to his parents' bedroom and looked around. Their personal things were long gone. Vergil looked up and saw a board was a bit loose. Hm, He thought as he climbed up. He reached up and gasped. It was a coffer chest of silver with an amethyst. He opened it and saw a beautiful garnet, onyx, ruby and fire diamond necklace. A beautiful piece meant for a queen! Vergil smiled as he saw matching earrings and hairpiece for it and packed it away. He took one last look around and bid a silent goodbye before he slashed a portal home.

Heavenly smells reached the elder's nose and his stomach grumbled. Oh my, He thought with a blush. Nero heard it and laughed.

"Mother, Father's home!"

"Oh yea, how do you know?"

"His stomach gave him away!" Nero grinned as Vergil blushed deeper. Mira came out and laughed good naturedly as she left the kitchen and hugged him. Vergil buried his face into her neck and sniffed before he kissed her.

"Where have you been? You went to our childhood home."

"I did, how…"

"I can smell it." She said sadly. "Did you find anything?" Vergil smiled and showed her the toy first. She gasped and smiled.

"Oh wow! It's Blake!" She said as she carefully handled the toy. "You talked a lot in your sleep." She smiled fondly at the plush animal. "I remember always trying to take him, he was so plushy and comforting. He always helped when Daddy took you for solo training and I was with Mother. Even when I was mad at you, I always relied on Blake to help take the edge off."

"That's why you took him…" Vergil said with a nod. "That I could understand. And the other times?"

"I wanted to tease you. But that was normal for siblings. You teased me on the butterflies and flower crowns. I teased you when it came to Blake." Mira smiled then handed the toy back but blinked when Vergil did not take it.

"Why don't we put him away? He may serve his purpose again someday." Mira smiled and nodded, excusing herself to do just that. Nero looked at his father.

"That was cute. I know you found something else."

"I did but she needed to smile first." Vergil said as he handed Nero the silver coffer chest. "This is an Heirloom; I didn't remember at first but as I returned home, it came to me. Inside are the exact pieces your grandmother wore on her wedding day. I would like your mother to wear them on ours. I would also like Ms. Goldstein to add a bit of her craft into them and to this." He gave him the box containing the Devil Rose. Nero gasped at the jewelry.

"Father, these are amazing pieces!"

"Your Grandfather had many skills. This was one of them. The Perfect Amulet, our swords, the guns, and the crests you wear, he crafted himself. As well as the pieces here."

"Sheesh, Grandfather had a lot of skills. No wonder people got their shorts in a knot. They can't beat him."

"No they can't. Your grandfather was knowledgeable on all aspects."

"Like you are." Nero pointed out as he carefully organized the jewelry. Vergil blinked then smiled.

"I hope to be. There is much more I would have to learn. But that goes with anyone in this lifetime. Go on before your mother shows up." After slashing a portal to Fortuna, he handed Yamato to Nero. "Go, two slashes as always."

"Yes Father," Nero said as he held Yamato and went through. Vergil nodded and chuckled, walking away when the portal closed. He found Mira setting up the table for dinner.

"Oh, where's Nero?"

"He went to do a quick errand. He will return shortly." He helped her set up and pulled her close, kissed her lovingly. Mira moaned softly and kissed back. Vergil pulled back, smiling warmly.

"I'll never get tired of this." He whispered as they touched foreheads. Mira smiled. Nero returned and they settled for dinner. All was going well until their phones rang. Mira got to hers first.

"Devil May Cry?"

"Guys, Lucia needs help. It seems that there's trouble on the island!" Lady said over the phone. Mira groaned as she got up, set up dinner on the go, put the rest of the food away and washed the dishes. Nero and Vergil helped her and geared up.

"My love, it's alright,"

"I know it's the job and I am excited to do this. I just,"

"Would like a breather?" Nero asked. Mira nodded and smiled.

"Well I never had a vacation." Mira admitted. Vergil kept this information for himself. Now that he knew that he knew exactly what to plan. A honeymoon vacation, that is not a bad idea. We have not been on a vacation since we were children. Even those were brief.

Nero had thought along the same lines as his father and he felt bad for his mother. She more than deserves a vacation, and a wedding to remember.

The devils landed on the island a bit before dusk and while Nero and Vergil looked around, Mira closed her eyes and replayed the last time she was here, as Dante. It seemed like a lifetime ago.

"Mother, are you, all right?" Nero asked as he gently placed a hand onto her shoulder. Mira looked at her son and smiled.

"Yea kiddo, just another memory lane for me that's all."

"This place is quaint, Father was here?"

"Long ago, the people fought alongside him." Mira said as she walked a bit. The men followed her, and they met up with Lady, Trish, Lucia, and an elderly woman. The old lady looked at Mira and blinked.

"Oh my, it would seem that Sparda had one more secret." Maiter said with a warm smile for the Huntress. "Hello, my dear, it's good to see you again." Mira smiled and gently hugged the old lady. Maiter saw the ring and her smile got wider. "Congratulations, child."

"Thank you," Mira said softly as she blushed.

"Where is the gentleman?" She looked behind Mira and her eyes immediately fell to Vergil. "Oh, Son of Sparda and I see a young one." Mira smiled.

"The man you addressed is Vergil, and the young one is our son, Nero." Maiter nodded to them and led them all into a council-room. Nero and Vergil were both fascinated in the engravings and books and were holding a discussion back and forth. Mira and the women laughed, and Trish smiled.

"Mira, how are you holding up?" The she-devil asked. She genuinely cared for Mira and the family. She couldn't get passed the memory of Mira crying.

"I'm doing better." The Huntress said. "I'm just wearing a bit thin."

"Mira, you've never took a break. You have been fighting demons since you were 19. You are way overdue for a vacation."

"Trish, my own Father didn't really take vacations." Mira said. "I mean come on, could you picture my father in a Hawaiian style shirt, shorts, shades and sipping a drink?" Trish blinked then laughed. So did Nero.

"Oh my god, I just pictured that! With the hat and a parrot on his shoulder." Mira and Trish laughed hysterically with Nero as the picture went through their minds. It was too funny.

"I think we'd have a better chance to catch Father surfing." Vergil's eyes widened but he whapped Nero in the back of the head with his tail.

"Ow! What the fuck Old Man?"

"You talk too much. Sometimes it's better to be quiet."

"What's got your shorts in a bunch?" Nero asked as he rubbed his neck. Vergil glared and the younger shut up.

"Come on, let's not fight amongst ourselves. " Mira said with a tired sigh. Nero and Vergil nodded and fell in step with Mira. They were worried for her. She was healthy but she seemed a bit worn. She needed a break. With everything that has happened, she never had a break to just sit and relax. She will burn out if she doesn't have a break from this. I won't allow that to happen.

"Father, what are you thinking?" Nero asked as he saw the look on his father's face. Vergil motioned for Nero to walk with him so they could talk. Nero nodded and quickened his pace. Vergil checked to ensure that Mira was talking to Trish before he spoke.

"Nero, I think it would be wise if your mother had a slight change in occupation. At least for a while."

"Father I don't think that's a good idea."

"I'm not saying completely, we can still spar and keep up our skills. But I think she will need to step aside just a bit so she's not worn so thinly." Nero thought on this and nodded. It seemed reasonable and Mira did want a vacation.

"In a way she would get one. The honeymoon and possibly more children."

"This is true, but, I know your mother, she doesn't like being stagnant. "

"So, what do you have in mind?"

"That we both get alternative jobs. You may wish to do so as well or , you can take over the office. You do have your own branch. So, it's only befitting that you take over the office. I can have a little chat with the broker and make the necessary arrangements."

"I won't take that from Mother. She built that from the ground."

"You're not going to take it away." Vergil assured. "She may welcome the change."

"I think we should talk it out with her."

"We can discuss it when we get back, right now, it's just something to think on." Nero nodded and looked toward his mother. He was worried just as much as his father was. As much as he did not want to, he had to agree with his father's assessment. With all the fighting, all the missions, and life changing events, his mother nor anyone else in the family, got a break.

The family, with Mira leading the way, for she had been here before, inspected the damage and casualties. Damn it, more demons. Mira swore as she stood up.

"Seems like we have yet another pain in the ass to deal with." She said as she hoisted Dante. Nero and Vergil also made sure they were ready with their swords and backup weapons. Nero did a double take at the Puja and Goats.

"Ok, this is freaky." Nero said. "I'll never see animals the same way."

"Oh, that's nothing, you didn't see the big ass moth and very hungry caterpillars." Mira said. "Or a floating head with three faces. Or the building that turns into a monster. There's a lot to see."

"Father, did you encounter any of those?"

"No, but it sounds like fun." Vergil smirked. Nero nodded. It did sound fun. They watched as Mira took down the Puja and Goats then saw a strange animal that looked like a bald dog. Ew, Nero thought. What a fugly fido. Vergil slashed away and dashed to help Mira. Nero riddled them with bullets and used his Devil Bringer to crush a few.

When they saw the mutated Orangutan Vergil and Nero whistled. Nero grinned and pointed.

"Father look, it's a monkey on steroids!" Nero laughed. Vergil chuckled and gripped Yamato.

"Yes, that is curious, let's go help your mother."

"Sure, let's monkey around a bit." Nero said. Again, Vergil chuckled. Mira laughed as she cartwheeled out of the way.

"That's a good one kiddo."

"Mother, would you like some help?"

"Yea, it's getting a bit hairy over here." Nero and Vergil chuckled.

"Well, time to shave this monkey." Nero said. "Father has the blades."

"Wait a moment, I didn't agree to be the barber here."

"You're the one with the energy swords." Nero pointed out.

"Damn it!"

Hm, I wonder who has decided to come back?
