hello everyone! this is something purely self-indulgent for me for an incredibly important childhood anime. i loved inuyasha then and i still love it now! sai is a crow demon of my own creation who uses she/they pronouns and is physically 19, but of course as a demon is older. updates will be... whenever i get to them really, and i'll do my best to keep true to the plot and characters. will there be ships? dunno! there will absolutely be close friendships though, since platonic love is incredibly important to me.
this initial chapter will be a short little intro! then we get into the actual story. to get this out there, sai comes in during the birds of paradise arc.

n. the realization that the plot of your life doesn't make sense to you anymore-that although you thought you were following the arc of the story, you keep finding yourself immersed in passages you don't understand, that don't even seem to belong in the same genre-which requires you to go back and reread the chapters you had originally skimmed to get to the good parts, only to learn that all along you were supposed to choose your own adventure
The leaves flutter in the cool night breeze, a single crow gliding over the trees. It ducks and weaves through the dense forest, making its way to a cave dimly lit by fire. The crow lets out a single, quiet call as it lands on the outstretched arm of its owner, nudging them in the face
"So," the person says, feather mantle shifting as they lean back against the cave wall. "What did you find out, Nana?" Sharp, gold eyes watch the crow, who flaps their wings and caws. The person chuckles, the movement causing the jewelry around their neck—small bones tied on string—to clank together. "We'll move at dawn," they respond, lowering their hand to the cold rock below, "for now, eat."
The crow feasts on the body of a creature much larger than itself, form changing and tail expanding, now having three red eyes instead of two.
It's satisfied caws fill the night air around the cave, a warning to those who pass.
To say that Sai ever thought about where they would be in the future would be a bold-faced lie; they were always so certain, so sure that the life their father laid out for them would go off without a hitch. They would reach adulthood, take their place at the head of their clan, and probably be married off to some perfect suitor. They didn't factor in anything as drastic as a shower of bright, pink light zipping across the skies and the bloodshed that followed. Sitting here in a dark, damp cave, Sai begins to rethink everything.
Nana," the call out, their crow companion looking at them and tilting their head. "Scout ahead, then I believe we're off once again." Nana cawed and flew out of the cave swiftly. Moving, always moving, never safe. Sai stood and stretched, pulling their dark hair up and out of their face, and picked up their naginata from where it was resting on the cave wall. Nana flies back in and lands on their outstretched arm, cawing once again as a signal of all clear. "Good, I don't want to fight those pests more than I need to, we have places to be.
With one final stretch, Sai and Nana disappear in a mess of ink black feathers, any trace of them ever being in that cave gone.
