A/N: Happy Thanksgiving! :)
Thanksgiving
Sabine's POV
I walked into the coffee shop and looked around looking for Kanan and Hera, I smiled when I spotted them and walked to them.
"Hey guys." I said as I sat across from them.
"Hey, Sabine." They answered.
"How did your exams go?" Kanan asked.
"Good, although most of them were mid-term projects and essays." I answered.
"Most professors prefer to do that to mid-term exams." Hera said.
"Hey, where's Ezra?" Kanan asked. "He told me he needed to submit his essay for Freshman Composition." He said.
"Yes but his professor told him and the rest of the class that they couldn't leave until he finished grading all the essays." I answered.
"Oh, yes. Professor Jacobs can be quite strict during the exam period." Kanan said and Hera and I chuckled because we know Kanan is right.
II felt my phone buzzing and took it out. I smiled when I saw it was a message from Ezra.
Ezra: Professor Jacobs finally finished grading essays. See you in ten. Love you.
Sabine: Okay! Kanan and Hera are already here. You and Zeb are the only ones missing. Be careful. Love you too!
"Ezra says he'll be here in ten." I said as I put my phone away.
"That's good." Kanan said and stood up. "I'm going to order now. Hera?"
"You know what I like, love." Hera said.
"Right. Sabine?" He asked.
"A mocha frappe, please." I said.
Kanan nodded and went to stand in line to order.
"So, are you going to spend Thanksgiving with Ezra?" Hera asked after a couple of minutes.
Umm…no. I'm going to spend Thanksgiving with my parents and my brother." I said. "Why?"
"Well, I just thought that you and Ezra would spend your first Thanksgiving together as a couple. That's all." She said.
I chuckled. "Ezra and I talked about that when we moved together almost three months ago." I said. "I'm going to spend Thanksgiving with my family and Christmas and New Year with Ezra."
"That's good, Sabine." Hera said. "Did you tell your parents?"
I sighed. "Yes, I did." I answered.
"And how did they take it?" She asked.
"My father took it pretty well, he understands why I want to spend Christmas with Ezra but my mother…she's still processing it." I answered.
"She doesn't like Ezra?" Hera asked.
I sighed again. "She hasn't met him." I said. "Actually, neither my parents nor my brother have met him yet."
"Really?" Hera asked surprised. "I thought you had already introduced Ezra to your family."
I shook my head. "No, the only ones that have met Ezra are my Aunt and her family but I haven't told my parents about him yet." I said.
"So, when do you plan to introduce him to your parents?"
"I…don't know." I confess. "It's not that I don't want to introduce Ezra to my parents, it's just that…" I sighed.
"You're afraid your mother will disapprove of your relationship with Ezra." Hera said and I nodded.
"Yes."
"It's okay, Sabine. You don't have to tell them if you're not ready." Hera said and placed a hand on my shoulder.
I smiled softly. "Thank you, Hera." I said and brightened when I saw Ezra walking towards us. "Hey."
"Hey." He said and kissed my cheek, then, he said hi to Hera and sat down beside me.
Ezra's POV
I was in the living room watching TV while Sabine was finishing packing. She was going to fly to Denver to spend Thanksgiving with her family and I volunteered to take her to the airport and keep her company until her flight departed.
I was glad that Sabine was happy to go back home and spend a few days with her parents and brother since she couldn't visit them every month like I do with my parents, so she always takes advantage of vacation days or weeks like these to go visit them.
I was zapping through the TV channels to see if I found anything interesting now the show I was watching ended when something on one of the news channels caught my eye and went back to check it out.
"And in other news, we have reports of a severe snowstorm that is affecting some of the mountain and Midwestern states of the country, including Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Utah and Wyoming." The news reporter said.
"Sabine!" I called her.
"Yeah? What's up?" She answered from our bedroom.
"You need to see this!" I said and returned my attention to the TV.
I heard soft footsteps walking towards the couch and saw her standing beside me.
"What is it?" She asked.
"Look." I said and pointed at the TV.
"Airports in the region have been closed due to the storm, several flights have been diverted to different airports in nearby states but most flights have been canceled until further notice." The news reporter said.
Sabine sat on the couch and sighed sadly, I took a deep breath and placed my hand on top of hers.
"I guess I won't be home for Thanksgiving." She said sadly.
I gave her a light squeeze and placed a kiss on her temple while she rested her head on my shoulder. We stayed in silence for a couple of minutes until her phone broke started to ring.
"It must be my dad." She said.
"Go." I said and she got up to answer her phone. I sighed and leaned against the backrest of the couch.
She returned a couple of minutes later and sat down beside me on the couch.
"Dad confirmed that Denver airport is closed and that all flights have been canceled, he doesn't know if the airport will be open tomorrow." She said and sighed. "He also told me that I should go to the airport or talk with the airline for information on compensation for flight cancellation."
I nodded and looked at her. "Do you want to go to the airport to see what they tell you?" I asked.
She took a deep breath and nodded. "Yeah, thanks." She said.
I smiled softly. "You're welcome." I said and we got up from the couch.
Third Person's POV
"Are you sure your parents don't mind having me at Thanksgiving dinner?" Sabine asked the next day.
"Babe, my parents love you." Ezra said as he served breakfast. "They won't mind if you spend Thanksgiving with us, besides, where else could you be?" He asked.
"I guess you're right." Sabine said as she took a bite from her scrambled eggs with bacon. "Do you have any traditions for Thanksgiving?" She asked after a couple of minutes.
"Yes, we do." Ezra answered and took a sip of his coffee. "Dad usually cooks and prepares the turkey and the stuffing and mom is the one in charge of the mashed potatoes and the gravy." He said.
"You don't help them?" She asked.
"I started to help dad with the stuffing when I was eight but this year I'm in charge of the turkey and the stuffing. Mom and dad will bring the mashed potatoes and the cranberry sauce." He answered. "Oh and we also have apple pie instead of pumpkin pie."
"Really?" Sabine asked surprised.
"Mhm, the apple pie is a Bridger tradition." Ezra said. "My great-grandfather had an apple orchard and they were the best apples in Lothal. Anyway, there was a year when he couldn't grow pumpkins and just decided to make an apple pie for Thanksgiving dinner." He said and shrugged. "It has been a Bridger tradition since then."
"That's amazing, Ez." Sabine said.
"Thanks, 'Bine." The young man answered. "Do you have any Thanksgiving traditions?" He asked.
"Well, usually dad takes the day off and decorates the house." Sabine said. "When I was little, he would help me to make crafts and we stuck them all over the house." She said with a smile on her face remembering those happy years.
"Do your parents usually make Thanksgiving dinner?" Ezra asked.
"Yes, when they have time." She answered.
"Well, I hope you are ready." Ezra said as he finished his breakfast. "Because today, you'll help me to prepare the most important dish for Thanksgiving." He said.
"Really?" Sabine asked.
"Yup." He said. "Let's pick up the dishes and get ready to cook."
A few hours later, the stuffing was ready and Ezra had just put the turkey in the oven.
"Alright, the turkey will be ready in two hours and a half and mom and dad will be here in an hour." He said looking at his phone. "I'm going to take a shower.
"Okay, I'm going to start setting the table." Sabine said as she finished washing her hands.
"Sounds good." Ezra said and kissed her cheek, then, he went to take a shower.
Sabine smiled softly when she finished setting the table. This was her first Thanksgiving with Ezra and his parents and she only wanted to make sure everything was perfect for the dinner.
"Everything looks good, babe." Ezra said as he came out from their bedroom.
"Thanks." Sabine said with a smile on her face and turned around. Her breath got caught in her throat when she saw his outfit for tonight's dinner.
He was wearing a white shirt, a navy blue v-neck sweater and black pants and shoes.
Sabine rarely saw Ezra wear formal casual clothes, he liked more to wear hoodies or t-shirts along with jeans and boots. The only times she had seen Ezra wear formal clothes had been at the prom and on their graduation day and she hoped to see Ezra wearing sweaters or blazers more often.
"So, how do I look?" He asked.
She admired the blue navy sweater that she didn't know he had and loved how it made his royal blue eyes look even bluer, if that was even possible. And hoped he could wear more colors than orange in his wardrobe.
She walked up to him and placed a hand on his chest. "You look very handsome, babe." She said and whispered into his ear. "But you look very sexy with that sweater."
Ezra gulped. "I-I do?" He asked.
She nodded and leaned up to kiss him, the young man placed his hands on her waist and deepened the kiss.
They broke apart when they heard a knock on the door and he went to open the door.
"Hi, mom! Hi, dad!" He said with a smile when he saw his parents.
"Hi, sweetheart!" Mira said and hugged her son. "How are you?" She asked.
"I'm fine, mom. Thank you." Ezra said.
"It's good to see you, son." Ephraim said and hugged Ezra.
"You too, dad." The younger man said.
"Sabine! What a surprise to see you here, dear." Mira said. "I thought you had gone to visit your family."
"My flight was canceled due to the snowstorm, so here we are." Sabine said.
"Well, I'm glad you can spend Thanksgiving with us." Mira said.
Later that night, Ezra and Sabine were snuggled in bed, she took a deep breath and buried her face into his chest.
"Thank you, Ez." She said.
"Why are you thanking me?" Ezra said.
"For giving me one of the best Thanksgiving I have ever had." She said as she looked up at him.
He smiled softly and kissed her forehead. "You're welcome, babe." He said.
She smiled. "I love you."
"I love you too."
