Warning, it's a pretty long chapter.
3rd Person P.O.V
The first stage of the exam had started and all the Genin were concentrated on the 9 questions in front of them.
Shizukana furrowed her eyebrows at the complexity of the questions. Half of the Genin here will not know the answers to half the questions here. What are they trying to play?
Shizukana scanned the room to find the Sentinels writing on their clipboards. She smirked when she figured it all out. They want us to cheat. The hidden meaning of the test is information gathering. That's why we have five chances before getting disqualified.
She watched as Sasuke activated his Sharingan. The female member of Lee's team, Tenten had a mirror which reflected her neighbors answers.
Shizukana had no need to cheat since she knew all the questions. It wasn't easy questions but she managed to understand each and everyone.
Twenty minutes in to the exam, a Chunin called out. "#72,31,24 are disqualified."
The said numbers stood up and left the room.
Shizukana continued answering her questions. A few minutes later, she finished her paper and set her pencil down.
More people left the room with complaints and whines.
Sasuke deactivated his Sharingan after finishing his paper. He smirked at the the fact the person in front of him was fidgeting nervously.
Meanwhile Naruto was having a mid-life crisis. He kept refusing Hinata's answers saying that he had to do this on his own.
A smile crept onto the Blonds face when he saw the white-haired kunoichi set her pencil down. She must have had no problem answering these questions.
Shizukana P.O.V
I lazily looked around the room as the Sentinels kept disqualifying teams. There were 150 candidates meaning 40 teams. There are only 35 teams left.
Ibiki stood up and slammed his hand onto the desk in front of him. This caused everyone in the room to gasp in surprise. Well, except a few emotionless ninja.
"Times up. Now the rules of the last question. Now, anyone who wants to answer the 10th question may stay in the room. Others will exit the room thus, forfeiting from the exams." Ibiki said making me tilt my head in confusion. He continued. "But, if you accept and answer incorrectly, then you will fail and be banned from taking the Chunin exams for a decade."
At that, everyone in the room gasped.
Dramatic much. I looked at Sasuke who was glaring at the proctor. I turned backwards to see Naruto with his mouth wide open.
I then set my gaze on Ibiki to find him glaring at everyone in the class. What is he trying to do?
A few minutes of silence, Genin from a round the room raised their hands and left the room with their team members.
Seven teams left, leaving only 27 teams.
I looked at Sasuke to find him staring with horror etched on his face. I followed his gaze to find Naruto raising his hand. My eyes widened at that. No! Don't give up. He's tricking you.
But instead Naruto slammed his hand down on the table. " I will not Give up."
This made me smile in relief.
"Alright. Everyone who stayed will pass the first stage of the Chunin Exams. Congratulations. " Ibiki said making me smirk.
Before anyone could say anything, the window exploded and a cloaked figure crashed into the room.
I pulled out my kunai but relaxed when Ibiki bursted out in laughter.
The cloaked figure was a female most likely around the age of of 24. She had purplish-black hair. She wore an mesh top with and orange skirt. She wore a brown cloak on top.
She striked a pose but sweat dropped at our faces. "My name is Anko Mitarashi and I'm your proctor for the second exam."
"Anko, you're early. Again." Ibiki said making the female Jonin chuckle nervously.
"Look at how many passed. Seems like you're losing your touch." Anko said making grimace.
She then looked at us and grinned. "Alright, meet me in front of Training ground #44. You have an hour."
An Hour later...
Sasuke and Naruto walked towards me. We stood in front of metal fence which was separating us and the forest.
I checked if I had all my stuff. Kunai, sword, Karito, medical supplies, food pills, survival kit.
"This is the location for the second exam. It's the 44th Battle zone but we call it the Forest of Death." Anko said gaining everyone's attention.
"Forest of Death..." Naruto said in confusion.
"It gives me the creeps." Ino said inching her way towards Sasuke who was backing away from her.
"It should. It's the Forest of Death for a reason and you're gonna find out why." Anko said making Naruto laugh.
"'It's the Forest of Death for a reason and you're gonna find out why." Naruto mimicked mockingly. "Do your worst. That's not gonna scare me."
Anko smiled deviously. "So,we got ourselves a tough guy." She said with a devilish grin.
Still smiling, Anko pulled out a kunai and threw it at Naruto in record speed. The kunai passed right beside Naruto's face earning him a scratch on the cheek.
Suddenly, Anko was behind him. "Can you handle this?" She asked mockingly. "It's the blood of the tough guy that gets left behind."
She wiped off the blood from Naruto's cheek. Before anyone could do anything, Anko pulled out a kunai to block an attack from the behind.
The Genin from the hidden grass stood awfully close to her. She had an elongated tongue which had wrapped itself around the kunai.
"I apologize, but your kunai cut my hair and the smell of blood is always gets me excited." The Genin said making me shudder.
Anko put on a fake smile. "You better step back, if you don't want to lose that pretty tongue." Anko said making the Genin step back.
The Jonin walks back to the front. "Now, sign these forms and we shall continue the 2nd stage of the Chunin exams."
"What are they for?" A Genin from the hidden sand asked.
"This shows that your deaths aren't on me." Anko said with a smile. "So, you better sign them or I'll drag you from hell and beat you up."
I took the paper and signed it. A few minutes later and Anko explained the rules of the examination.
"This is how its gonna go. There are 27 teams. Each team will receive a scroll. There are two scrolls, Heaven and Earth scroll. Half of the teams will have a Heaven scroll while the other half will have an Earth scroll." Anko said waving two scrolls for everyone to see. She continued. "Each team must retrieve both a Heaven scroll and an Earth scroll in order to pass. You will have five days to get the scroll and head to the tower in the middle of the Forest. If any team loses their members, they will be disqualified. If they lose their scrolls disqualified. If you read the contents of the scroll, you will be disqualified."
"Five days?" Choji asked. "What about food?"
"There are fruits and berries inside the forest." Anko said nonchalantly.
"There are also dangerous creatures." Kabuto answered.
Are we allowed to quit in the middle? Before I could voice my thoughts, Shikamaru already had asked the same question.
"Can we quit during the middle?" Shikamaru asked.
Anko shook her head. "No. You can't quit during the battle. You will have to spend 5 days inside."
I looked at Sasuke and Naruto. Sasuke seemed determined to win while Naruto was excited.
"Now we will call teams towards the counter over there," Anko said pointing to a tent, "where you will submit your contract and receive a scroll."
One by one teams went in and walked to a specific gate.
This led me to think about the things that happened. We need to be cautious about the other teams. They are nothing but weak.
Naruto was looking around while Sasuke sat down on a rock nearby.
"Hey, Shizukana-chan. Why is that creep staring at you?" Naruto said making me look at the direction he was pointing at the Sound ninja from before.
I grimaced in disgust. "I really don't know but he has been staring at me for a long time."
I looked at Sasuke when I heard him mutter along the lines of 'pervert.'
Before we could continue this conversation, our names were called. We stood up and made our way to the tent.
Three Chunin were behind a table. They took our contracts and a Chunin looked at us with an unimpressed face.
"Which one of you will be taking the scroll?" He asked.
"I will be taking the scroll." I said with no hesitation. I took the scroll which has Heaven written on it.
I looked at Sasuke. "I will explain later."
The three of us headed to gate 43. We reached a tall metal gate that was locked.
"Why did you take the scroll?" Sasuke asked clearly irritated by my actions.
"The other teams expect the strongest to carry the scroll. And after your little stunt with Lee, you broadcasted that you're an Uchiha to everyone. Meaning they think you're the strongest." I explained.
"Why don't I keep the scroll then?" Naruto asked. "People know that I'm the dead last."
I shook my head. "Naruto, you drag too much attention. Plus, we can use your clones to create distractions."
The both of them nodded.
I looked at the Chunin who was approaching us. He came and stood near the padlock.
There was a loud bell and the Chunin unlocked the gate and vanished out of sight. We entered the forest and the gates behind us closed.
I kept my guard high and followed Sasuke and Naruto. I patted my pouch to feel the scroll inside.
Just few minutes after walking, we heard a scream echo through the forest.
"It started already?" Naruto asked with uneasiness.
"We will have to stick close. And we mustn't let anyone know Shizukana has the scroll." Sasuke said looking at me and Naruto.
"Hey guys, I have to go." Naruto said lifting his pinky finger. I have him a deadpanned look while Sasuke sighed in annoyance.
"I'll be quick." He said running behind some bushes.
I scanned the tree line. None of us are sensors but Naruto does have a keen sense of smell. Sasuke has the Sharingan. We really have to avoid the other teams. If we tackle the team with the earth scroll then we can move on to the tower.
Naruto came running out. "What a relief. I wrote my whole name with it." Naruto said making me and Sasuke give him a disgusted look.
I looked at Naruto and narrowed my pouch is on the wrong side. No scratch mark on the cheek. Hair colour is a shade too dull. Dodged to his left but Naruto always takes the right. He didn't say 'Believe it.'
I quickly threw a kunai in his direction.
Sasuke looked at me and looked back at also threw a kunai at Naruto.
'Naruto' dodged both the kunai and gave us a look. "What's going on? Guys, why are you attacking me?"
"Where's Naruto?" Sasuke asked ignoring the question.
I tightened my grip on my kunai when the imposter kept denying the fact that he's not Naruto.
"Where's the scratch mark on your cheek? No one knew that Anko's kunai had scratched his cheek." I said. "Naruto is right handed so why is your weapons pouch on the left?"
'Naruto' chuckled before laughing. "Fine you got me." He transformed into an Amegakure ninja. He wore a hideous yellow jumpsuit and a rebreather covered his mouth. His face was cover with white bandages with the eye holes cut out.
"Aren't you smart?" He said. His voice was distorted by his rebreather. "But you're still a tiny Genin." He said mockingly.
Sasuke threw his kunai pinning the ninja to the tree. I threw my Shuriken to his hand when he was about to take the kunai out.
"He might have his team nearby." I said to Sasuke but the Ninja interrupted.
"No, I thought I could take on some rookies so I left my team and came here." He said clearly regretting his decision.
I looked at him with suspicion. I threw three more kunai and pinned his hands and legs to the tree. I turned towards Sasuke. "Let's go find Naruto."
We ran into the direction Naruto was headed. We found a tied up Naruto. He was wiggling on the floor like some worm.
I went to him and cut the rope. He removed the gag and started rambling about how someone ambushed him.
"We need to come up with a password. If we get separated then, we will each ask the password to make sure that no one is an imposter." Sasuke said.
I nodded and Naruto also listened in.
"Listen carefully and I will only say this once. 'When does a Ninja strike?' and the response will be, 'A ninja waits until the enemy sleeps and drops his guard. When the weapons lie forgotten in the stillness of the night. That is when a Ninja shall strike.' Got it?"
I nodded my head. I see what he's doing here. Naruto will never be able to remember that. If there is an imposter, they will always choose the weakest and everyone knows how dense Naruto can be.
"Can't it be a shorter one?" Naruto asked. Sasuke just huffed.
"No, that's the one." Sasuke said making Naruto mumble under his breath.
"Password, more like pass speech." Naruto said looking away.
We started leaping through tree's trying to find a team with an Earth scroll.
We stopped when a small breeze blew our way. I looked towards the direction of the breeze to find some trees shaking.
My eyes widened. "Ambush!" I yelled making Sasuke and Naruto freeze.
A strong wind equivalent to a hurricane brushed us of our feet. I felt myself being lifted off the ground as I raised my hands to cover my face.
I heard Naruto and Sasuke yells. Before I could do anything, I landed hard on the floor. My head hit the ground with a large thud.
My vision blurred and my head was pounding. I stood up using the support of the tree next to me.
I stumble on my step as I pulled out a kunai. I squinted my eyes to get a better view of the scene in front of me.
The dust was beginning to settle and there was not a single sound.
Naruto and Sasuke. As soon as their names hit me, I began turning around hoping to catch a hint yellow or blue anywhere.
I snapped my neck to the left at the sound of a twig breaking. Sasuke was coming out holding his shoulder.
"Shizukana I-.." Before he could say anything, I interrupted him.
"When should a Ninja strike?" I asked.
He nodded. "A ninja waits until the enemy sleeps and drops his guard. When the weapons lie forgotten in the stillness of the night. That is when a Ninja shall strike."
Before he could take a step closer, I held out a hand. Anyone who heard the password could say it. Ask something only he and I would know.
"Anyone could have heard the password. When did we first meet?" I asked him. Any other shinobi would think we met at the Academy. But we actually met in the market, he and his brother and mother were shopping when mom and I met them.
"We met at the market." Sasuke said.
I nodded my head before dropping my hand. He walked towards me. "What the hell was that?" he asked me.
"Either that was an attack to split us to it was a stray jutsu." I said looking around. "Come on, we need the find Naruto."
Before we could do anything, Naruto came sprinting out of the bushes. "Hey guys. What was that?"
Without answering his question, Sasuke proceeded to ask Naruto the question. "When does a Ninja strike?"
"Easy." Naruto said. "A ninja waits until the enemy sleeps and drops his guard. When the weapons lie forgotten in the stillness of the night. That is when a Ninja shall strike."
Without hesitation both Sasuke and I threw kunai at the imposter. 'Naruto' dodged the incoming Kunai.
"What, hey. I answered the question." 'Naruto' said looking confused.
"Our Naruto could never learn that long password. We have a better chance teaching it to a hamster." I said looking at that imposter.
'Naruto' laughed out loud. "My my, you haven't dropped you guard down. This shows to be promising." He said. His words sent shivers down my spine.
He changed into a pale kunoichi. She wore a beige coloured tunic and a purple rope around her waist.
She had snake like features and was looking at Sasuke with greed. She was the Ninja with the long tongue.
She pulled out a scroll. "My Earth scroll would go nicely with your Heaven scroll. Don't you want it?" She said. She then brought her Earth scroll and swallowed it whole.
She came closer to us but I threw a Shuriken at her. Without any warning, I was hit with a wave of fear. The scenery changed into pitch black. I watched as a kunai hit my head. I watched as my body slumped down and hit the ground.
I felt my knees collapse. Genjutsu. My mind kept reassuring me that it was all just take. I made the tiger hand seal and dispersed the Genjutsu.
The scenery changed back into the forest and the lady was headed towards Sasuke. I threw a kunai at her and pulled Sasuke away.
"My my. How impressive. You weren't phased at all." She said smiling creepily.
I shook Sasuke until he snapped his head towards me. The both of us were shaking and had gone pale. She is no Genin.
"Sasuke snap out of it. We have to go." I whispered to Sasuke, trying to calm him down.
"Now, why leave so soon when we can enjoy for a while?" She said making me glare at her.
I made hand signs for the water style jutsu. "Water Style: Water bullets."
Bullets of water streamed out of my mouth. The lady dodged all of them. I sent three kunai at her way.
I made a water clone and sent to her the water clone managed to distract her. While she was distracted with them, I took Sasuke's hand and dragged him away.
We jumped through tree's trying to escape. Once we seemed it was far enough, Sasuke stopped and leaned against a tree bark.
"Who is she?" Sasuke asked me. He was shaken to the core. That lady planned on rattling us, so we couldn't fight properly.
"I don't know." I replied. "But we have to find Naruto and leave."
Before I could say anything else, Sasuke cut me off. "No. Don't you get it? We can't beat her. We are useless. She just scared the hell out of us with a genjutsu."
I backed away as he spoke like a mad man. My eyes widened as a large purple snake appeared behind Sasuke. It was so huge that, it towered over Sasuke's head like a building.
"Sasuke." I whispered. He stopped his ramblings and looked at me. He gave me a confused look before slowly turning his head to look back.
He immediately leaped away and pulled me along with him.
"I can't believe it, I didn't even sense him." He said. Before we could take a step forward. The snake cut us off and on top of the snake was that God awful lady.
The Snake came down on us but I pulled out my sword and cut its eye. The snake pulled back but came at us again and I pushed Sasuke and the both of us fell to the floor.
My whole body hurt as I stood up. I looked back to Sasuke to find him kneeling on the ground. The snake came at us again but before I could do anything, the was a flash of orange and Naruto came in middle of the snake with a kunai.
He has changed. His eyes were red and he emitted an orange Chakra, just like the one on the bridge. He had a wolfish grin on his face.
"Ehh Sasuke, are you alright Scaredy cat?" Naruto asked. Sasuke's face changed.
He looked more determined. But that little moment was ruined when the lady interrupted.
"I see, you defeated my little friend." She said to Naruto. I lifted my sword in defense when she came forward.
"The nine tails jinchuriki. But I'm not interested in you." She said before attacking Naruto.
Naruto dodged the kick and punched her in the stomach. She caught Naruto leg and punched him in the face.
She then lifted his jacket and made hand signs.
Seal. She's about to tamper with the seal. "No!" I yelled before running at her but I was too late. She already placed her hand on his stomach.
It glowed orange before Naruto yelled out in pain. I ran as fast as I could.
I kicked her in the leg making her drop Naruto. I winced when he landed on his head.
"What's so special about you?" She asked me.
"I don't know. Maybe the fact that I'm so awesome." I replied with a glare. She just smirked.
I ran towards her and she was about to lunch me in the gut but I dodged it and tackled her from her legs. She fell to the ground but I slammed my sword where her head was but she pushed me off.
She kicked me sending me flying back.
"Sasuke." I called out. I saw him run towards the lady.
"Finally, the Sharingan." She said blocking Sasuke's punches.
The both of them fought while I dragged Naruto's unconscious body to the side. He must have past out from the pain.
I looked at the seal to find it intact and alright. She must have weakened the seal allowing the chakra to flow.
I heard a yell and I focused on Sasuke. He spewed fire out of his mouth. He paused and turned to me with a smirk on his face. But before he could say anything, a head came whizzing through the air and latched itself onto Sasuke's neck.
I yelled at him but Sasuke dropped to the floor in pain. It ran towards him and gently lifted his head to find a tattoo on his neck. Images poured through my mind.
Cursed mark. Purple chakra. Orochimaru. Sasuke covered in Tattoos.
I looked over at the lady to find her face peeling off. The skin underneath was paler than before. More like ghostly white.
Sasuke started shaking in pain. I looked at Sasuke then at Naruto. It's my fault.
Anger surged through me as I stood up. I gripped my sword harder.
"You will pay for that." I said with such Killing Intent that the whole area became quiet.
"Oh and what can a little girl do to harm me?" he said mockingly.
"Everything I can to make you suffer."
I made three shadow clones. One to take Sasuke and another to take Naruto. The third one was to watch out for any danger.
Once Naruto and Sasuke were out of the way, I ran faster than I ever have and raised my sword.
Orochimaru's smug face turned into curiosity. I swung my sword and aimed for the head but he dodged it and kicked the sword out if my hand.
I ignored it and punched him in the face. I threw a smoke bond at the ground causing a screen of smoke to give me cover.
I then made Chakra strings and attacked them to my kunai. Once the smoke cleared, I threw the kunai at him but her dodged.
He laughed at me but once he saw my smirk, it was too late. I pulled on the strings making the kunai come back.
He dodged it in the last second but a Kunai managed to hit his shoulder. He hissed in pain.
"Now, you're just being troublesome." He said before appearing right before me. He had my sword in his hand.
I froze in surprise. He lifted the sword and made a clean cut through my neck.
I stumbled back while putting my hands on my neck. I felt a warm liquid stream down my neck.
I fell to the floor.
