The ride on the airship is… interesting to say the least. Rosa saw at least one student get violently air sick.
On top of that, she got recognised by a girl with a massive mane of blonde hair.
"I saw you on the news segment. It was pretty impressive that you managed to fight like that. I'm not surprised that you're coming to Beacon after what happened during that robbery," she says as she walks up to her.
"Yeah, well, I didn't exactly plan on thwarting a robbery and being accepted into Beacon two years early when I went to go refill my Dust Cache," Rosa huffs, crossing her arms over her chest as she tries to sink into the shadows.
"You're fifteen?"
"Yeah. I'm a fifteen-year-old faunus, who's been home-schooled their entire life, and pretty much had to teach herself how to fight." Rosa sighs. "The only reason I even agreed to attend is because Abuela told me I need to learn how to work as part of a team."
"Jeez. That's harsh. Well, I'm Yang. Maybe we could be friends?"
"Maybe, and my name's Rosa."
"So… you said that your Abuela convinced you to come? Not your parents?"
"Yeah. I never knew them. Abuela doesn't even talk about them. She mentions sometimes that I look like my mum, but other than that, I don't know anything about them."
"You wouldn't be the only one to grow up without parents. My family's an utter mess," Yang comments, leaning back against the window.
"Really?"
"Long story short, absent mother, dead step-mum and half-sister, and unstable drunk dad. My uncle ended up taking me in when I was three. So, yeah, my family is a mess."
"Glad I'm not the only one then. And who needs conventional family anyway?"
"Not us, that's for sure." Yang laughs before holding out a fist for a fist bump. "To non-conventional families?"
"To non-conventional families." Rosa bumps her fist against Yang's, and they spend the rest of the trip in relative comfort, not really talking.
They soon arrive at Beacon, and Yang goes to catch up with some of her other friends, leaving Rosa to soak in the sights on her own. She stops in front of the fountain and she hears a large crash followed by a shrill voice yelling.
Turning around, she sees a girl – white hair, white dress, white skin, Schnee emblem on her back – yelling at a boy – blond hair, fairly unused and old armour, almost grey pallor (was he the one puking on the airship?) – and there's a dust vial – unsealed, agitated, unsecured – being waved around.
Rosa's eyes go wide, and she rushes over, pulling a vial-seal out before plucking the dust vial from the girl's hand and sealing it shut.
"What do you think you are doing?!"
"Sealing the vial. Its seal had been broken somehow and was already agitated. You waving it around so wildly would have resulted in an explosion," Rosa explains, handing the vial back.
"How dare you?! I'll have you know that it would have been fine if this dunce-" the girl turns to glare at the boy who cowers beneath her "-hadn't knocked into a case of highly purified Dust vials."
"Regardless of who was at fault, you shouldn't have been waving around an unsealed and agitated Dust vial."
"Don't you think I of all people know that?" waving around the vial again "Who are you of all people to judge." The dust starts glowing and Rose's eyes widen again, "Come to think of it, you look a little young to be at Be-." Kaboom.
Despite being sealed, you should never wave around agitated Dust. Bad combination. Ends up with explosions.
"She did warn you," the boy meekly comments as the girl in white visibly fumes. They don't get a warning before the storms off, soot covering her previously pristine outfit.
"For the Schnee Heiress, she didn't exactly follow Dust procedures," Rosa comments with a sigh.
"Really?"
"Yeah. I use Dust myself. Sure, I'm no expert, but I know all my Dust procedures and can do some cool stuff with it. I'm Rosa by the way."
"Jaune Arc. Short, sweet, ladies love it."
"Didn't seem like it to me."
"Yeah, well…"
"Don't worry. We probably shouldn't judge ourselves by the Schnee standard. Us simpletons are the dirt under their shoes in their minds, but that doesn't mean we really are."
"Thanks, that… that actually makes me feel better."
They chat for a few moments more before they set out for the entrance hall where Professor Ozpin was about to make his speech.
"I'll… attempt to keep this brief," he begins, drawing the attention of everyone in the room. "You have travelled here today in search of knowledge, to hone your craft and acquire new skills. And when you have finished, you plan to dedicate your life to the protection of the people. However, I look among you and I can't tell you how many will reach that goal. The path to becoming a hunter is fraught with hidden dangers, and it is likely that by the time you graduate, many of your cohort will no longer be at your side. Our teachers and staff may be able to guide you along the path to becoming a hunter, but your drive and willingness to take the first step will be the deciding factor in who graduates from this Academy, and who, ultimately, drops out."
"You will gather in the Ball Room tonight. Tomorrow, your initiation begins. Be ready," the woman, Professor Goodwitch if the hologram recording on the airship was to be believed, announced before following the headmaster off the stage.
"Do you think they're always that… depressing?" Jaune asks from beside her.
"I don't know," Rosa tells him before heading off to find a spot in the Ball Room to settle down for the night.
It's a mess of bedrolls, and there's more than one instance of young couples getting caught trying to sneak off for some 'private time'.
Rosa decides to just get as much sleep as possible and not bother trying to talk to anyone that night. Of course, Yang doesn't let it lie.
"So, where are you from?"
"My family and I move around a lot."
"But… where are you from? Surely your family came from somewhere, right?"
"Well… I don't remember ever going there, but Abuela always told me and my brother that the Calavera family originates in a settlement called 'Spain'. It's in the deserts of Vacuo, near one of the many sparse oases," Rosa admits.
"Do you ever want to go there?"
"Not really. We wander a lot. Mostly around Vale and Mistral. Abuela goes up to Atlas every ten years or so to get her prosthetic eyes checked and upgraded and so on. She took us with her last time. She complains that desert sandstorms are bad for her prosthetics and make it hard to clean them, so we don't really go anywhere near Vacuo," she recounts.
"I'm guessing you don't really want a singular home then?"
"Not really. Why get attached to one place when the world has so much to offer?"
"Yeah, but, having someplace that you know you can always come back to, isn't that something you want?"
"Abuela told us so many stories growing up. They don't explain why she never decided to settle back into Spain with her extended family, but it is something I believe in." Rosa pauses and looks at Yang. The blonde gestures for her to continue, so she does. "It's a matter of ties, permanence, and impermanence. People as a whole are impermanent, everything we do will one day be forgotten. As people, we try to fight against that by tying ourselves to things we perceive to be permanent, such as places. However, by not making those attachments, you are free to grow and change."
"Makes no sense to me," Yang comments.
"It doesn't have to. I didn't understand it for years. A lot of Abuela's stories are old, and don't make a lot of sense. Some are even contradictory," Rosa sighs.
"When did it start making sense?"
"Not sure. One day I hadn't been giving it any thought, it was the life I was used to anyway, the next, the story crossed my mind and it suddenly made sense in a way I could never explain."
"How can it make sense if you can't explain it?"
"It makes sense for rocks to be solid, for trees to have bark, for animals of all kinds to grow, but you can't explain it. You just know that it is right. Same for this."
"Still makes no sense to me."
"That's fine, Oscar says the same thing. I think I'm going to get some sleep. See you in the morning."
"Sure, see you in the morning."
After that, it didn't take long for Rosa to fall asleep.
Waking up, she was greeted with the dark blue glass of her goggles, no sound, and the rest of the world still dark.
Looking around, she saw that everyone else was still asleep, their dreams calm and restful, unlike the gunfire and screams that filled hers.
It's always gunfire and screams, or it's harsh cold and silence. She doesn't know which one she prefers. Both are equally as disturbing.
Knowing that she won't be able to go back to sleep, she gets up and retrieves her swords from her assigned locker.
She spends hours carefully inspecting every single square inch of them for abnormalities, before sharpening them in such a way that it is ready for combat and unless something completely unexpected happened, it would remain that way for at least a week.
Finally, the time for breakfast and initiation preparations officially began. Rosa chooses her food carefully, making sure to get nutrients and fuel in the right ratio to support her.
Watching all the others get their weapons out, she inspects them all, figuring out who had what strengths and weaknesses, whose styles she could mesh well with, and which people were best to avoid so that she could at least attempt having a low profile.
Yang has gun-gauntlets, and Jaune has his sword and shield-sheath. Weiss has her rapier and is filling its internal canisters with purified dust. A boy in green has a set of guns with attached daggers that he is tucking into his sleeves. Pyrrha Nikos is there as well, her spear-sword-rifle and shield in pristine condition.
Most of them are visibly well trained, but there are a few that she could tell are not ready for combat against most Grimm. Jaune is one of them.
The announcement for them to gather at the cliffs is welcomed by Rosa who takes her position on the steel square on the very end. It didn't take long for the others to arrive.
"I'm sure you have all heard rumours of the formation of teams. Let me put an end to the discussion. You will all be given teams today that you will be with for the next four years. Teams are formed of two pairs. That said, you would do well to be paired with someone you can work well with. You will be paired with the first person you make eye contact with after landing. Each pair will continue on to the temple in this forest, where a set of relics, each pair takes one relic and returns to this cliff. Understood?" Ozpin lectured.
Almost everyone nodded, and more than a few people started exchanging looks with people they wanted to be with.
So far, she only knows who she doesn't want to be on a team with, and despite him being nice, Jaune is on the list of people she simply can't put herself on a team with.
Yang though seems like a good person to be paired with. Fiery, and a close to mid-range fighter. She certainly has the build of someone who has been fighting for a few years already.
If Schnee wasn't so difficult, Rosa would wager that she would be a good fighter to have her on her team. Unfortunately, she is proving to be snobbish and dismissive of anyone she deems below her.
There is one other girl, a faunus hiding her heritage with a bow (Rosa could only tell because she saw the bow twitch in ways it shouldn't have). Despite having not spoken with her, Rosa can tell that she has had experience fighting. The way her eyes surveyed the ball room last night under the guise of reading betrayed her. Her movements while retrieving her things in the morning held the gait of someone on guard, and ready to fight at any moment.
'Besides,' Rosa thinks, 'it would be nice to not be the only faunus on the team, even if she decided not to tell us about her heritage.'
Deep in thought, she doesn't realise she is about to be flung off the cliff until a moment before hand. Glancing around as she hurtles through the air, she aims to fall near to where the black-haired faunus does.
Rosa unsheathes one of her swords, leaning backwards as she does so, before throwing the sword in front of her. Her feet hit the hilt and she moves her left foot down the flat of the blade. Twisting her body around in mid-air (with a bit of help from her semblance), she is quickly using her sword as a sort of hoverboard to move down into the trees.
It doesn't take her long to find the other faunus, and their eyes met.
"I'm going to assume that our eyes met. I can't exactly see yours behind your goggles," the girl states.
"Yep. Our eyes met. I guess that means we'll be partners for the next four years then?" Rosa chirps as she sheathes the sword she had been using to hover on.
"I guess so," the other murmurs.
The two of them set out north in silence.
"So… what's your name?" Rosa eventually asks, breaking the silence.
"Blake."
"Well, Blake, I'm Rosa. Since we're going to be teammates for the next four years, I figure, why not start getting to know each other?" she suggests.
"I think we should wait until we're not walking through Grimm infested woods," Blake comments.
"Meh. Emerald Forest Grimm aren't that bad. Hunters in training come in here all the time to clear out Grimm and to train, so it isn't likely that we'll see any Grimm that are that bad to dispatch," Rosa dismisses.
"Regardless, I'd rather keep my guard up and not get distracted."
"How about a compromise? We exchange info on our weapons. That way, if we do have to fight something, we're more ready to work together," Rosa suggests.
"That… that actually sounds like a good idea."
"Alright. I'll go first. I have twin swords. Their names are Azul and Blanco. They both have a dust vial holder and rivet that allows them to be used as long-ranged weapons," Rosa explains.
"Impressive. No gun feature or mecha-shift?" Blake comments.
"Nope. Abuela says that mecha-shift is too hard for her to teach me. Plus, guns might be cool, but dust has way more capabilities than bullets," she explains with a small lie. "So, what do you have?"
"A katana and blade sheath. The katana has a pistol mecha-shift. I can also use it as a grapple using a reinforced ribbon. The whole thing is called Gambol Shroud," Blake explains.
"Does the grappling function work in both katana and pistol form, or just one?" Rosa asks.
"Just in the pistol form. The blade collapses to allow the pistol barrel to shoot, which also creates the grappling hook."
"ah, bueno," Rosa says nodding sagely. Blake turns to look at her strangely. "What?"
"What does 'bueno' mean?"
"Oh. Shit. I was speaking Spanish again. Shit." Rosa rambles.
"Is that what it means or are you just freaking out?" Blake asks.
"No, that isn't what 'bueno' means. Sorry, its just, sometimes words get stuck going between languages. Right now, 'bueno' doesn't want to translate in my head. It's an… shit, what's the word…" Rosa trails off and begins muttering under her breath, "afirmativo... afirmativo… Affirmative! It's an affirmative word. Kind of like 'yeah that's right' is an affirmative. Or 'okay I've-'… That's the word! That's the bugger! Bueno means 'okay'. Shit, how did I forget that word?"
Blake starts laughing, cutting off Rosa's ramblings. "Does that sort of thing happen a lot?"
"All the time. It gets really… shit, what's the word? Molesto… suena molesto como anonimo… Annoying! That's the word! Forgetting words in English is annoying," Rosa rambles.
"Agreed. Well, not in English. My mum speaks French, and I try to speak French with her, but I'm always forgetting the French words," Blake sympathises.
"Languages are hard," Rosa giggles.
"Yeah. They are…"
The two continue walking and it doesn't take too much longer before they reach the temple.
"Do you think this is it?" Blake asks.
"Seems like it. We went north, and this place is in a very visible area. After decades of students doing the same initiation, there's probably been a lot of Grimm fighting students here, so the large open space also makes sense. I can't think of any reason this wouldn't be the place," Rosa rambles.
Blake didn't say anything, and they made their way down to the temple.
"The relics are chess pieces," Rosa gasps. "This makes so much sense now!"
"Huh?"
"Yeah! Look at the number of pedestals. There is enough for four of each type of chess piece, two black and two white, which, coincidentally, is also half the number of students that Beacon admits each year. One chess piece for each pair, and each pair of chess pieces makes a team," Rosa explains.
Blake nods in agreement. "Some of them are missing, too. Which means we weren't the first ones to get here, despite how quickly we moved."
"So, do we want to chance a random pair to become part of our team, or do we want to wait and see who else comes to pick up a piece and decide from that?" Rosa asks.
"I don't mind." Blake shrugs. "Pick what you want."
Rosa proceeds to pick up a white queen piece. However, to her, it seems like Blake is distracted from the temple, her eyes searching the sky, and her black bow moving in a non-existent wind. Rosa focuses on listening, and that's when she hears screaming and powerful flaps.
A screech pierces through the air and Rosa knows that a fight is coming.
"That sounded like a Nevermore," she mutters.
"Do you think someone's fighting one nearby?" Blake asks her.
"Most likely answer. If they get here, we can help them."
"Agreed."
They wait, weapons drawn and waiting for any sign of the Nevermore. Then, they see it come into view, followed by a yellow figure falling from the large Grimm come into view.
Rosa sheaths one sword and throws the other on the ground, steps on, and begins zooming up to catch the falling hunter-in-training.
"Yang?" she asks, recognising her once she has the blonde in her arms.
"Oh, hey Rosa," Yang says, scratching her neck. "Fancy meeting you here."
"What were you doing on the back of an Alpha Nevermore?" Rosa asks as they descend.
"The ice queen and I were making our way to the temple. Nevermore back seemed like a cool mode of transport."
"Schnee? Seriously? You got paired with Weiss Schnee?" Rosa asks incredulously.
"Yeah. I had to save her from getting her butt kicked by a pack of Beowulfs. She's prissy, and not exactly the person I really want to be paired with for the next four years, but what's done is done," she shrugs.
They reach the ground and all Blake does is point to a tree. Yang and Rosa turn to look at where Blake is pointing, only to see Weiss and Jaune caught in the tree.
"How'd that happen?" Rosa asks.
"He flew through the air out of nowhere. Collided with the Schnee as she fell, and then they both got knocked off course into the tree." Blake deadpans.
"Great. I should go get them out of the tree." Rosa sighs.
"Don't bother. Weiss is my partner. I'll get her," Yang interjects, trudging towards the tree.
A crash comes from behind the trees and they see an Ursa lumbering towards them… only for it to drop dead, revealing two people on its back.
"Nora, never do that again," the one in green moans while the other inspects the dead Grimm. She doesn't seem to take any notice before racing over to the chess pieces.
"I'M QUEEN OF THE CASTLE! I'M QUEEN OF THE CASTLE!" she sings as she waves around a white rook piece.
"NORA!" the green one yells.
"Oh, coming Ren!"
"Did that girl just ride in here on an Ursa?" Blake asks Rosa.
"Looks like it," Yang replies as she walks over with Weiss and Jaune at her sides.
They all got startled by the massive booming of something crashing through the other side of the forest. It is quickly revealed to be a Death Stalker chasing after a figure in red.
"PYRRHA!" Jaune yells, and almost goes to run towards her. Rosa grabs his armour and pushed him down to sit on the ground.
"Schnee, I know you don't like me, but why don't we work together? Can you use ice or earth dust to create a wall or encase the Death Stalker?" Rosa inquires.
"I can with ice, but it will take a lot out of me. I have been using too many glyphs today and it is running my aura low," Weiss tells her.
"Alright, here's the plan. Yang, Jaune, you go get your relics. Blake, you're going to need to go get Pyrrha out of the line of fire," Rosa begins telling them. She turns to the green and pink pair "I don't know your names, but do you think you can give Schnee and I some cover and distract the Death Stalker while we work the dust?"
"YEAH WE CAN!" the pink one yells.
"Alright. As soon as Schnee and I have immobilised the Grimm, start running past it. We need to get back to the cliffs, and that's the fastest direction. It's unlikely that Dust Ice and Earth will hold a Grimm of that size for massive amounts of time, so every second is crucial. The Nevermore also won't be able to reach us easily through the trees with its size," Rosa explains.
"Got it," they all chorus before darting off to do what they said they would do.
Ren and Nora draw the Death Stalker's attention to them, giving Blake enough of an opening to grab Pyrrha and get out of there into the tree line.
Yang and Jaune grab their chess pieces (Jaune the other White Rook and Yang the other White Queen) and prepare to run past the Grimm and into the tree line.
Rosa and Weiss share a glance, readying their weapons before unleashing a blast of Dust. Ice and earth spires erupt into being around the Death Stalker, trapping it.
"GO!" Rosa yells, and they all sprint for the cover of the trees.
Tress whirl past and they can hear the Nevermore tracking them from above. A massive crash could be heard from behind them, the Death Stalker was out of its Dust trap and chasing after them as well.
"HURRY! THERE'S A RUIN WE CAN CLIMB UP TO GET AWAY FROM THE DEATH STALKER OVER THIS WAY!" Pyrrha's voice yells out through the trees.
"You heard the champ, let's go," Yang jokes. The others roll their eyes and continue running.
Unfortunately, the Nevermore catches up a bit too quickly.
"We're trapped." Weiss notes.
"Can't go back, Death Stalker will eat us. Can't climb the cliff, nevermore will eat us. We're just going to have to fight them," Rosa sighs.
"Uh, not to rain on the parade, but that's a really big snake Grimm down there," Jaune points out.
Rosa turns to look where Jaune is pointing, and whatever the size of King Taijitu she was expecting, it wasn't anywhere near as big as the one slithering down the ravine towards them.
"That's bigger than the one I fought earlier," Ren groans.
"We can't let it reach the ruins. If it gets here, we won't have a leg to stand on to fight the Death Stalker or the Nevermore. Anyone think they can help me delay that Taijitu?" Rosa asks.
"I'll help!" Nora yells.
"Okay, let's move then," Rosa says, grabbing her hand and jumping into the ravine. They run towards the Taijitu, and Nora uses her hammer to knock it back when they get to it. Rosa jumps onto its back and begins searching for a chink in its scales for her to sink a sword in and cut it to pieces.
She's almost thrown off five times before she finds a spot and she digs the sword in as deep as she can, about halfway between the middle of the Grimm and the black head. She positions herself so that she's not going to fall off before grabbing her other sword from under her feet and using it to cut straight through the body of the Grimm.
A screech fills the ravine and Nora is quick to smash in both heads, effectively silencing the dead grim.
"That was fun!" Nora squeals as she bounds over to Rosa's side.
"Well, we can celebrate later." Rosa pulls her swords out of the carcass. "We have to go help the rest of them with the other two Grimm."
"Okie-dokie!"
They each use their own methods to fling themselves back up to the others, and Nora immediately goes to Ren's side, helping Pyrrha smack the Death Stalker around.
Rosa on the other hand turns to help her partner with the Nevermore.
"It's hide is too tough! I can't even shoot through it!" Yang yells out.
"My blade can't get any purchase either," Blake agrees.
"Aim for the eyes!" Rosa calls out as she rises into the air, sword in hand.
Blake, Yang, and Weiss also begin aiming for the nevermore's eyes, and soon enough, the Nevermore is distracted from the onslaught of weapon fire in its face. Taking advantage of this, Rosa digs one sword through one of the giant Grimm's eyes. Seconds later, the other sword, charged with earth Dust lodges itself in the nevermore's chest as both monster and huntress begin to plummet.
Wind whips through her hair and Rosa narrows her eyes behind her goggles. Timing her jump so that she lands safely would be the next trick.
Stretching out her aura, she hears a satisfying chorus of cracks and Grimm screaming responding to her activating the earth dust. A second later, she yanks both of her swords from the soon-to-be monster carcass, and jumps. The world blurs around her as she falls to the ground, rolling as she hits the solid temple structure.
Faintly, she can hear Jaune calling out orders to Nora and Pyrrha, but by the time she, Weiss, Yang, and Blake get over to them to help, they've managed to dispatch the Death Stalker.
Ren sinks to his knees, Nora plopping down next to him.
"Whew, that was hard!" she exclaims.
"Agreed. But we all worked well together," Pyrrha agrees as she sits herself down.
"You can say that again!" Yang sighs, plopping herself down. Weiss just nods as she does the same. Jaune leans on his shield, and Blake props herself up against a nearby pillar.
"At least we don't have a time constraint anymore. We just have to get up the cliff now," Rosa chirps.
"Please tell me not all Grimm fights are like that," Jaune moans.
Yang snorts. "Nah, not even close!"
"Agreed. Most fights with Grimm will likely be smaller scale," Weiss adds.
"Honestly, three Grimm of that size? Shouldn't have managed to get that big here. Sure, the nevermore I can believe. It could have flown in from anywhere. But I'm sceptical about the Death Stalker and King Taijitu," Rosa points out.
"I've never seen a Taijitu of that size before," Ren chips in, rubbing at his side.
Yang nods in agreement. "The largest Grimm I've ever seen was an Ursa Major. In comparison, it was tiny!"
"Great…" Jaune moans.
"Should we head up?" Pyrrha suggests. The rest nod wearily and begin the climb up the cliff face.
It's slow going, but eventually, they do all make it up. It still takes half an hour of walking, and yet another climb, before they get back to the meeting point, but luckily, they don't run into any more Grimm.
The afternoon passes quickly, and soon enough, the entirety of the school is gathered in the hall, with teams being announced.
"The next team comprises of Rosa Calavera, Blake Belladonna, Yang Xiao Long and Wiess Schnee. From today onwards, you will be known as team RWBY. Led by, Rosa Calavera. Congratulations," Ozpin announces as the four girls walk on stage. They exchange glances and nod to each other. They'd be willing to work together.
They began to walk off stage back to the audience, but Goodwitch stopps them, keeping them near the stage steps.
"The last team to be announced consists of Nora Valkyrie, Lie Ren, Jaune Arc, and Pyrrha Nikos. From today onwards, you will be known as team JNPR. Congratulations."
Rosa nods in agreement with Ozpin's choice in team leader there. While Jaune isn't the strongest fighter, in fact he was by far the weakest in that group, he was able to quickly assess the battle and she had heard him calling out commands in battle. He'd be a good leader.
"While that was the last team, there is one more announcement. As some of you would already be aware of, on the rare occasion, there is a formation of Squads. Last year, we saw the formation of Squad BLAKYARW ("Black Yarrow"). This year, for the first time in the history of the hunter schools, we are seeing the formation of the first ever, first year Squad. They are Rosa Calavera, Jaune Arc, Pyrrha Nikos, Yang Xiao Long, Weiss Schnee, Nora Valkyrie, Blake Belladonna, and Lie Ren. Together they are RRAYNNBW ("Rainbow"). Led by Rosa Calavera." Ozpin announces.
Shocked, RWBY walks back onto the stage.
The other half of the squad has the same shocked expressions on their faces.
"The eight of you showed exemplary fighting abilities, and above that, you showed an ability to work fluidly with each other. Even without knowing your fellow squad members, you were able to work together with strength and aptitude. As time goes on, this will only grow. Yes, you will still belong to your separate teams, but you will also belong to this squad," Ozpin addresses them.
The entire hall is silent.
Then, a clapping sound could be heard. Within moments, the silence of the hall is replaced with thunderous applause.
A/N: Hi and welcome back to The Grimm Reaper! I'm posting this one a little bit earlier than I planned because I'm procrastinating writing one of my assignments that's due today. I'd also like to thank everyone who's followed and favourited this story so far (and of course everyone's who's read it) I've really been blown away by your support. It really does mean a lot to me. As I said last chapter, the changes to this new world of Remnant may take time to truly see, and we are now seeing the first signs of how Summer's earlier death changes more than just who Rosa is raised by. I'm probably going to say this a lot, but things add up differently here. Also, I apologise in advance for the numerous cliffhangers (and one especially the one where I- no, that would be spoiling things. Sorry) that will occur throughout this story.
A quick update on how the writing is going, I have spiralled into writing isolated scenes and then working on the chapters, but I have now written the first 24 chapters, a bit of chapter 25, a bit of 26, all of 27, and then decided to bypass a bunch of chapters and work on the epilogue. I've also finished the rough outline and this story will by 36 chapters plus the epilogue, but depending on how writing goes, that number could change.
Again, I'd just like to say that if you need someone to talk to, feel free to reach out and I will try to respond between frantically writing my assignments. Otherwise, I'll see you all next week with the next chapter.
