"Adventure is nothing if not the vice of all who seek meaning in life. What strange lands and grandiose creatures await in the far off continents, long past the reach of our feeble eyes. Purpose is… Purpose lies in…" The well dressed student holding a notebook ripped out a page and threw it into the trashcan next to his seat.

"Attention to flight 186 departing to Vale with continued service to Beacon Academy, now boarding seats one through fifty five. Please line up in sequential order according to your seat number." The attendant in the terminal announced.

The young man closed his notebook, looked at his ticket and stood up. He then fastened his backpack and grabbed his duffle bag and suit bag from below the terminal seats. He breathed out heavily before looking out the terminal to his native Vacuo.

"Well... She-I-it, here we go…" he said with a nervous smirk walking to the line to the gate, lowering his leather cowboy hat as he approached.

The Tale of Team HARK

Chapter 1

Departures: Harrison Cohl

A few hours later…

Harrison sat Slouched over to the side of the bench seating, leaning against his luggage sleeping with his hat and sunglasses covering his eyes. Despite being in business class in the first part of the flight, he volunteered to move to the viewing deck as the second leg of it as the flight was more crowded than expected. Thus, he found himself sleeping on a bench in the middle of a public space for more than an hour.

It was just as he shifted back to leaning to back, that a girl tripped over his leg and fell on her face, dragging her companion with her. His hat and loose sunglasses fell on the floor, and in his haste to wake up he slid down the bench on to the floor.

"Ow... my head… Yang…" The girl in the red dress muttered on the floor, gripping the bump on her head.

"What in fresh hell… ugh… Oh fuck my glasses!" Harrison yelled as he slowly sat up looking at his shattered, 5 lien shades.

"Hey what were you doing there? Here gimme your hand Rubes. You trip my sister and expect to get away with…" The tall yellow haired girl yelled as she helped her sister up from the ground, brushing off the side of her skirt.

"What in the goddamn…? You done tripped on me, don' go blaming this lapse a' judgement on me blondie!" he yelled back picking up his cowboy hat.

"You want to start something you hick? Your legs were in the middle of the walkway! This is on you motherfu..." She said with an anger in her voice, yet showed passive understanding that she was not exactly in the right.

"Hick? The fuck'd you just say broad?...Ah… Ugh…" He snapped, biting his lip and holding himself back from punching her in the face.

Halfway through him adjusting the cuffs on his uniform he realized that the argument was futile and that she was most likely a student as well. He took a deep breath, looked up at the ceiling and adjusted his collar.

"I think... we got off on the wrong hand. My name is Harrison W. Cohl; that's Cohl wit' a H an' no E." He said breathing out before extending his arm for a handshake.

The girl looked bewildered for a second before realizing that he was trying to draw down the situation in front of the crowd of people that was looking at the three. She sighed and shocked his hand.

"Yang Xiaolong, and this is my ditzy little sister Ruby Rose. Pleasure to meet you." She said with a relieved smirk as Ruby waved from behind her taller sister. "You aren't from these parts are you?" she commented looking at his hat.

Harrison looked around at the crowd, then smirked and laughed for a moment. "Ah suppose not miss."

He laid his hat down on the pile of luggage, slicked back his hair, and looked back to the two. "So what brings the two of Y'all to this here school? Can't see the reason being the lovely company on the flight." He remarked looking at the sisters.

"We came for the adventure and… well, I had to tag along with my cute sister seeing that she managed to get into this school on merit alone. Like, Ruby, tell him all about that time you beat up like a dozen guys in that…" Yang proclaimed as she began to go off in an ecstatic mood, shifting from the awkward silence moments before.

"Yang stop!" Ruby pouted while tapping her fists on Yang's back. Her face completely flush as she felt embarrassed despite the crowd seeming to have dissipated.

Yang and Harrison laughed at the flustered Ruby. Yang smiled and looked at Harrison. "So what is a person from Vacuo doing all the way down in Vytal, let alone going to Beacon?"

"Well I'm impressed that you picked up on my here accent..." He reacted.

"It wasn't that hard…" She cut in, looking somewhat mystified.

"Well, I happen to be doin'..." He looked to the side then down to the floor. "Just bout' the same if I do say so myself…" He answered, smirking.

The non-answer seemed to confuse Yang, but just as she was about to comment, the sight of a large castle-like structure showed itself in the distance.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we are now arriving at Beacon Academy. The time is 12 noon and skies are mostly clear. Please gather your belongings and file into the designated exits. Thank you for flying with us and have a wonderful time, and for the students, best of luck!" The announcer said over the microphone.

"Well that's our cue." Harrison said, putting on his hat and grabbing his luggage.

He adjusted his uniform and simply tipped his hat at the girls as he walked away to get in line. He noticed that the television on the viewing deck had been talking about a recent white fang attack. Piquing his interest, he walked into the crowd, trying to squeeze in to get a better look at the screen. After trying a few times he simply gave up and looked at the tall man next to him who had been standing there for most of the flight.

"What's goin' on with them whatchamacallit, ah shit, already forgot their name." Harrison asked.

The man looked over, his stature at least a head and a half higher than Harrison's own. "Fucking white fang? Dipshits trashed some store in town. Weaklings couldn't fight a real opponent so what do they do, they prey on some small shop owners. Winnin' those hearts and minds one old man at a time." The man commented with clear disdain in his voice.

"Seems so." Harrison remarked.

Harrison just looked at him. A six and a half foot, muscular man wearing an old military coat, and a clean white tank top beneath it, with worn out jeans. His glare at the screen was almost as menacing as a wild animal. He looked to the side to see a lady in a bowtie walk away from the line looking at him as if she intended to kill him. He simply looked her way and she carried on, still unnerved.

Harrison thought to himself, "maybe I should talk to her, she was pretty cute…" but within the realization he had stopped himself, realizing that he had enough melodrama for one day on the ship. Suddenly the PA system pinged for an announcement.

"Doors opening" the announcer stated as the airship touched down.

Post Script

Well. It has been four years since I last tried doing the whole fan-fic thing, and... hopefully it doesn't show. I am throwing this chapter and another one soon so I can see how it goes (hopefully well.) Yeah... here it goes.
