"Right, better get a shift on then! Leave it with us," the Doctor said, "Come on then, Neffy! We're going to need help." He took Nefertiti's hand and flew to the TARDIS, pulling her in the air beside him.
Her unwavering confidence in herself allowed her to fly with him though simple touch.
The Doctor flew down to a campsite and lowered to a lone man sitting next to a fire. "More stew?" the Doctor asked as he floated down.
"What the . . . ?" the intruder muttered as he stepped out of the TARDIS onto the spaceship.
"Don't move!" the Doctor ordered. He turned to face the man and stepped onto the air. With a slight push of his hands he floated toward the intruder, stiff and straight, his arms crossed to intimidate. It seemed to work. "D'you really think I'm that stupid I wouldn't notice? How did you get aboard? Transmat? Who sent you?" he asked, waving his torch in the man's face.
The man seemed too shocked to respond, continually looking at the Doctor's feet.
"Doctor . . . that's my dad," Rory said.
"Well, frankly, that's outrageous," the Doctor said, turning to Rory.
"What?"
"You think you can bring your dad along without asking? I'm not a taxi service, you know!"
"You materialized around us!"
"Oh, well, that's fine then, my mistake. Hello, Brian, how are you?" he said, shaking Brian's hand, "Nice to meet you. Welcome, welcome!" He spun around, floating higher in the air. "This is the gang. I've got a gang, yes! Come on then, everyone!" He flapped his arms and flew down the corridor.
The lift door opened and a bright light shone out at the gang. Growling and roaring came from the shapes of two huge creatures.
"Not possible!" Brian muttered.
"Run!" the Doctor said unconvincingly.
The sight was convincing enough. Everyone turned and ran. The Doctor stood transfixed in fascination.
"Doctor!" Amy shouted, realizing he wasn't moving.
"I know! Dinosaurs! On a spaceship!"
The two Ankylosaurus shoved each other out of the way, roaring at each other as they squeezed out of the lift. Amy's being in trouble called the Doctor back to reality. He turned and flew off the ground, grabbing Amy's hand. She tried to run as he dragged her on the floor covered in slippery sand. They caught up to the rest of the gang and the Doctor let go of Amy's hand and flew to the front.
Nefertiti ducked into an opening in the wall too skinny for the dinosaurs. "In here!" she shouted.
Everyone quickly turned after her. The Doctor jerked upright and spread his arms and fingers, trying to slow down as he flew past the opening. He turned and flapped his arms to fly back the other way. He gained momentum in the air and landed on his feet to run and duck into the opening as the dinosaurs approached. He lifted a finger to his lips as the dinosaurs stomped by.
"Right, well, don't just stand there, you two, dig!" The Doctor rubbed his hands and he turned away. "I'm going to look at rocks. Love a rock." He hopped into the air and strode away.
"Dig with what?" Rory asked.
The Doctor hopped up, ducked his head down, and with a circular motion with his arms he flipped upside down, still floating away, and waved his hands at Rory with a smile, indicating they were supposed to dig with their hands. His feet came back down and he flipped right side up and kept walking. Rory stared at him, slightly annoyed. He didn't used to show off like that.
Brian pulled something from his pocket and unfolded it, revealing it to be a collapsible trowel. "Ah! Well!" He kneeled and began digging fervently.
"Did you just have that on you?" Rory asked.
"Of course! What sort of a man doesn't carry a trowel? Put it on your Christmas list."
Rory squatted beside him. "Dad, I'm thirty-one. I don't have a Christmas list anymore."
"I do!" the Doctor shouted across the beach.
Rory looked up at the Doctor, looking ridiculous floating like a star in the air and grinning maniacally.
"If these are the engines, there must be a control room," Rory said, studying the computer in the rock.
"Exactly," the Doctor said, laying his arms across Rory and Brian's shoulders, "That's what we need to find." He lowered his voice to a whisper. "Now, what do we do about the things that aren't kestrels?"
They all slowly turned around to watch the creatures, screeching as they flew closer.
"Oh, my . . . . Are those pterodactyls?" Brian exclaimed.
"Yes. On any other occasion, I'd be thrilled," the Doctor said, "Exposed on a beach, less than thrilled. We should be going."
"Where?" Brian asked, terrified.
"Definitely away from them!"
Brian immediately ran.
"That's the plan?!" Rory asked, too frightened and frustrated to move.
The Doctor floated slowly after Brian, trying to urge Rory after them. "That's the plan! Amendments welcome! Move away from the pterodactyls!"
"I think they might be noticing," Rory said, beginning to move.
"Amended plan . . . run!" the Doctor shouted.
Rory ran and the Doctor grabbed his hand and flew, dragging him along in front of the cliffs. The pterodactyls rapidly drew nearer.
"Can't we just teleport or something?" Rory asked.
"No, local teleports burned out on arrival. There's an opening in the cliffs over there!" The Doctor and Rory began to overtake Brian.
"Come on, run!" Rory shouted to his dad.
"I'm trying!" Brian shouted.
The Doctor grabbed Brian's hand too, flying as hard as he could to pull two passengers. The cave neared, and so did the pterodactyls. The Doctor felt Rory jerk his arm. He looked back and saw a pterodactyl scrape Rory's shoulder. He faced ahead and pushed on and flew into the cave. He dropped his passengers and stumbled on the ground, falling against the wall to keep from collapsing.
"Are you all right?" Brian asked his son.
"Yeah, I'm fine."
The Doctor used the wall to stand up. "Don't think I've ever worked so hard to fly before." He bounced gently. "Feet. Feet are brilliant. I'm staying on my feet for now."
"What do we do now?" Rory asked, "There's no way back out there."
"Through the cave, come on."
The Doctor ran down the corridors, Rory and Brian following, and skidded to a stop when he saw the triceratops in his path. Rory and Brian caught up. The Doctor grinned and ran toward the dinosaur.
"What're we doing?!" Brian asked.
"Just do exactly as I do!" the Doctor called as he sprinted toward the beast.
"Doctor, no!" Rory shouted.
The Doctor leaped and flapped his arms hard. "Geronimo!" he shouted as he flew over the triceratops's tail and back, spreading his arms to land softly behind its head. He realized the two men couldn't fly and turned to face them. "Do exactly as I do . . . but without the flying . . . which was basically all of it . . . . Just . . . use these conveniently placed crates!"
Rory and Brian looked at each other before running and climbing up the stack of crates to join the Doctor on the dinosaur's back.
"Come on, Tricey!" the Doctor urged.
He looked up in surprise at the end of the corridor. Tricey wasn't slowing down.
"Where are the brakes?!" the Doctor questioned frantically. He chopped Tricey's crown and only hurt his hand.
Tricey suddenly stopped and they all slid off her smooth scales with a shout. The Doctor spread his arms, grazed the floor, flew upright, and landed on his feet, feeling slightly guilty while Rory and Brian groaned on the ground.
