"He's in the cellar," the Doctor said.

Amy lifted her hand. "Gimme."

The Doctor pulled the sonic screwdriver out of his jacket and tossed it to Amy. She caught it and ran out of the room. The Doctor flew toward River with a wave of his hands. He gave her a quick kiss on the cheek and flew after Amy. He took another look at the page of chapter titles and stopped dead at the door in horror.

"Doctor? Doctor, what is it? What's wrong? Tell me," River said.

The Doctor curled his fingers around the back of a chair, gripping it with fury.

"Doctor. Doctor, what is it? Tell me."

The air around the Doctor felt hard and stiff. It felt powerful and angry. It felt like he did. His fingers gripped the book, ready to throw it across the room, as he stared at the chapter titled 'Amy's Last Farewell'.

"Okay, I know that face," River said nervously, "Calm down! Calm down!"

The Doctor threw the book at the chair, struggling to restrain himself. "No!" He pushed himself through the air, stiff and straight, toward the door.

"Talk to me! Doctor!" River pleaded.

He stopped abruptly. "No!" He turned and the air exploded behind him, thrusting him toward River without any help from his hands or feet.

Her hair seemed to blow gently.

"You get your wrist out. You get your wrist out without breaking it." He turned and glided toward the door, stiff and straight.

"How?"

"I don't know. Just do it!" he called, no intention of stopping, "Change the future!" He flew out the door and stormed through the house like a wraith. He floated down the stairs.

"Rory?" Amy called into the darkness.

The Doctor floated silently behind her. "No!"

"Aah!" she shouted in surprise.

"They're Angels! Baby Angels," the Doctor said, staring at the little stone cherubs on the floor behind an empty matchbox surrounded by burnt out matches.

"Did they get Rory? Where is he? Did they take him?" Amy asked frantically.

"Yes, I think so, yes."

The sound of children giggling and scampering echoed toward them. The Doctor took Amy's arm and flew up the steps.

The Doctor paced excitedly in the air while Amy sat on the steps and River searched her handheld device. "Well, come on, come on, come on, where is he?!" the Doctor directed at River.

"If it was that easy, I'd get you to do it," River said.

"How did you get your wrist out without breaking it?" the Doctor asked.

"You asked. I did. Problem?"

The Doctor laughed. "You just changed the future!"

"It's called 'marriage', honey. Now, hush. I'm working."

The Doctor floated down and sat beside Amy. "She's good, huh? Oh! Have you noticed? Really, really good."

"Ah, wherever it is, it's within a few blocks," River said, "There's a car out front. Shall we steal it?"

"Show me!" The Doctor suddenly pushed off the stairs and flew at River.

Before she could move, he grabbed her right hand and let go when she gasped in pain and backed away. The Doctor looked at her bruised and swollen hand in shock.

Amy and Rory ran out the door into the Angel-infested halls.

The Doctor pulled out his sonic screwdriver as he strode to the door. "River, I'm not sure this can work," the Doctor said.

"Husband, shut up," River said. She took his hand and they flew out of the apartment.

Two Angels appeared in the hall. The Doctor and River spread their arms and fingers to slow down. River slowed down faster, lightly jerking the Doctor to a stop. The lights went out and turned back on and the Angels were closer. The Doctor and River turned and flew the other direction, River again speeding up faster and pulling the Doctor.

"What's the matter with you? Stop dragging behind!" River said.

"Sorry! Suppose I'm not quite as good as you yet. I'm pretty close though, yeah?" he added, excited that he was finally almost on the same level as River.

"Just hurry up! We're flying for our lives, you know!"

They flew into another hall and River pulled the Doctor to a stop before another Angel. The lights flickered off, and when they returned, there were more Angels. The lights flickered again, and the Doctor and River were surrounded by Angels. The Doctor quickly pointed his sonic screwdriver at the light to keep it on before the Angels advanced in the next darkness. Nothing moved.

"I can't keep doing this," the Doctor said.

"Any ideas?" River asked.

"Yeah, the usual. Fly." The Doctor took River's hand and they flew, dodging the Angels.

They flew toward the door at the end of the hall.

The Doctor threw it open and looked down at Angels blocking the stairway. He turned and pulled River away from the door. "Uh, okay, fire escape," he said, spotting one.

They flew up the fire escape on the outside of the building. River flew faster than him. The Doctor began to tire, flying straight up the side of the building. He caught the ground with his feet and jumped up as well as pumping with his arms. River waited for him at the top. He could tell she was trying hard to conceal how tired she was. She took his hand and they flew onto the roof.

The Doctor looked in horror at Amy and Rory standing on the edge of the roof, holding each other and looking into each other's eyes. "What are you doing?!" he shouted.

"Changing the future," Amy said, caressing Rory's face, "It's called 'marriage'."

The Doctor watched in horror as they both leaned over the edge and fell. "Amy!" He forgot his exhaustion and blasted off the ground as fast as he could, shooting to the edge of the roof. "Amy!" He cut through the air and dove after Amy and Rory, their arms wrapped around each other. He reached to grab them. "Amy!"

Something rammed the Doctor out of the way. "No, Doctor!" River growled.

The Doctor yanked against her grip on his arm, pulling toward the falling couple. River held her space. The Doctor had to look away. He couldn't watch.

"Doctor!" River said in surprise.

The Doctor realized he was falling with lack of concentration and gripped River's hand. The air around them fluctuated. The world around them was being warped. The Doctor felt the tug of time changing.

"What's happening?" River questioned.

The Doctor pulled himself back into the air. "The paradox, it's working. The paradox is working!"
