ACT 1 - SCENE SET 2

INT. JJ'S HOSPITAL ROOM - DAY - SCENE 2.1

START SCENE - FADE IN:

The team wandered into the room, eyes locked on JJ, who looked pretty good for someone who'd almost died about 48 hours ago.

Hotch: Hey, there

Reid: We were worried

JJ, smiling: No need, doc says I'm going to be ok.

Hotch: That's great.

Rossi: Now, you just rest and relax for your three months off you're about to get

JJ smiled. She then eyed Emily, who kept her head down, eyes focused on her fingertips.

JJWhere's Will and Henry?

Hotch: They were here all night. Will took Henry home to get some sleep. I called him, they're on their way

JJ: What happened with Ivei?

Garcia: They got him, Jayje, he's gonna pay for what he did to you

Rossi, nodding in agreement: I'll make sure of it

JJ nodded, then eyed Strauss from the hallway

JJ: Strauss?

Hotch: She wanted an update as soon as we had one. I didn't know she was going to come back

JJ, teasingly: Am I getting fired, or something?

Morgan: We all might be. But not you.

JJ looked confused. What had happened while she was out? At that moment, Strauss entered.

Strauss: Agent Jareau, it's good to see you awake

JJ: Thank you.

Strauss: Unfortunately, I need the BAU on a case

The team groaned internally

Strauss, rolling her eyes: Luckily, the Director recognizes your team's talents and is even allowing you on this case after this stunt

JJ was confused, she furrowed her brow

Strauss: He's got half a mind to take your guns and badges the minute it's over, though, so impress him.

The team stood there blankly

Strauss: By that I mean, get going [she shoos them out with hand gestures]

The team was devastated to have to leave JJ, but could tell Strauss wasn't joking around. They all threw JJ a "sorry" look, but she understood. All of them except Emily, who never met JJ's eye the whole time they were in there.

JJ noticed. Strauss remained in the room after the team left.

Strauss: Jareau, I need to talk to you about something

JJ was perplexed, but nodded.

INT. BAU CONFERENCE ROOM - DAY (Thursday)- SCENE 2.2

START SCENE - FADE IN:

Garcia: Hello, my fine furry friends. Down in South Carolina, we have 3 people whose lives have gone south. Literally, as in six feet under south.

Garcia: 3 men, TRAVIS BLACKBURN, 39, MICHEAL LAWSON, 42,And ASHER HUGHES, 46 were all found stabbed and dumped on church walkways, nude. They were last seen out and about town, then were reported missing and found dead about 36 hours later. They were last seen on a friday and found on Sunday afternoon

Reid: Leaving the bodies at a church, naked on sunday afternoon has to mean something

Morgan: The unsub hates religion?

Hotch: Maybe. And if he sticks to schedule, we'll have another body in a few days. Wheels up in 20.

INT. JJ'S HOSPITAL ROOM - THURSDAY DAY SCENE 2.3

START SCENE - FADE IN:

STRAUSS: As you know now, we have apprehended Ivei

JJ: I heard. I'm grateful, but I have to ask- how?

Strauss: He had connections to organized crime and terrorism, that the team found and profiled.

JJ: Terrorism?

Strauss: Correct. Jareau, I'd have to believe you aren't a fan of terrorists, especially since you've been shot by one

JJ was confused. Where was this going? Of course she hated terrorists. Who didn't?

Strauss: Would you like to do something about this?

JJ: Chief Strauss, all due respect, but what are you talking about?

Strauss: Agent Jareau, in the past few years since 9/11, the government has created a new focus on combatting terrorism, on getting profiles on people like Ivei. If you want to stop other people, civilians and agents alike, from going through what you have, Don't fight the state department transfer we're about to push through.

JJ: I'm being transferred to the state department?

Strauss: No. It's a backstop to a covert operation. I can't say anymore.

JJ: Why me? I'm not a profiler.

Strauss: The president himself requested you. Whether you like it or not, this is happening. I'm sorry for the lack of say, but honestly, this is a promotion, Agent Jareau

JJ was conflicted. The BAU was her home- but yes, she did want to fight terrorism, and if the President thought she was the best woman for the job- maybe it was her duty to do so. Besides, it didn't seem like she had much of a say in the matter

JJ: When?

Strauss: In a few weeks. You cannot reveal the true nature of the re-assignment to anyone. Even Hotchner, even-

JJ interrupted her

JJ: Even Will

Strauss, nodding: You're to say you will be a DOD liaison to the state department. Do not say anymore. Congratulations, Jennifer

Logically, JJ knew why she congratulated her, but JJ didn't feel like she had anything to celebrate. Strauss turned on her heel and left, closing the door behind her. The camera focuses on JJ's conflicted face.

INT. ON THE JET - DAY - SCENE 2.4

START SCENE - FADE IN:

HOTCH: It's thursday, and the unsub picks their victim on a friday and dumps the body on Sunday, so we only have about 2 days to find him before another man dies. Let's get started. What do we know about victimology?

Prentiss: All three victims were in their 40s, married fathers, and successful businessmen.

Morgan: So they're alpha males?

Rossi: Maybe this is a case of one alpha male defeating another- he leaves him nude to humiliate them?

Morgan: What about the church for a dumpsite?

Rossi: Well, the ME report says they each actually died Saturday night, so the sunday morning dumping is important enough that he'd keep a dead body around for at least 12 hours before getting rid of the body. That's risky

Prentiss: And gross

Reid: He leaves them on a sunday afternoon and the bodies weren't there when services started but were when they ended, which might mean he just wants the most people possibly to see the body- to add to the humiliation?

Hotch: And humiliate the church- public nudity is taboo in most religious communities.

Prentiss: Is he killing men for shock value?

CPC HARRINGTONwith a thick southern drawl: Hey, hey, welcome. I'm Chief Harrington, you must be [looks down at notecard] Agent Hotchner?

Hotch: Yes, I am. These are SSAs Morgan, Prentiss, and Rossi and Dr. Reid.

CPC HARRINGTON smiles and nods at each one of them

CPC HARRINGTON: Great, great. What do yall need to get started?

HOTCH: Just a quiet place to work and a whiteboard if you have it

CPC Harrington: Sure, sure, right this way.

The team (minus JJ) follows CPC HARRINGTON through the police department building until they reach a conference room

CPC Harrington: This what you had in mine?

Hotch: It's perfect, thank you.

CPC HARRINGTON: Alright, well I'll leave you all to it. Let me know if you need anything.

Hotch: I will. Thank you.

CPC HARRINGTON nodded and left

Hotch: Alright, Morgan, Prentiss, you two go to the ME. Rossi and I will get into victimology, and Reid, look at the church aspect. See if there's something in the geoprofile or something about the specific churches.

Reid nodded, Morgan and Prentiss stood up and exited the room
