It's the one year solar flare apocalypse anniversary and it's been 110 days since WCKD took Harriet and the other babies from us. We were able to pursue the train to the city that is under some major construction. We're camped outside the city in the mountains. Close enough to get to them far enough away to not be noticed. The kids were all kept in the same building for some time. Now our inside sources say they are being moved out in groups. Yesterday they moved two groups of kids out to outlying bases in the dead zone. We have intel that several of these bases have been set up across the country. It's was said that the kids are being sorted separated and moved to one of these bases. We still have no way of knowing if Harriet had been moved yet or will be moved soon.
The only thing our sources have been able to tell us is that they keep the babies on a super-secure floor. Source also said the younger the child is the better the chance the child has immunity from the flare. I hope our baby is okay. The thought of her being in a lab somewhere and experimented on really pisses me off. I'm doing something about it.
The camp we're staying at is a group of rebels. There are two other sets of parents fighting with us. The rest are ex-WCKD soldiers, scientists, and doctors. We pick up a few people here and there wanting to join the fight against WCKD but not many. But our group keeps growing every day. Soon we'll have a pretty sizeable unstoppable force to resist them with.
I rolled over on the mattress to find Jess still asleep. So I just watched her. She had been up for 36 hours. She's a real big help in the group. She's been working on the computers with Vince. She's a fuckin wizard at hacking into systems. Jess is the one that made the connection to the source. They've been feeding her the intel. She told me they keep everything super secure in their system. She had to create a high-ranked profile just to get in. Once in the system, it still takes her a few hours just to Hack one file and with our luck sometimes it ends up being a junk file. There's way too much information for just two people to go through. The source is the only way to get quick intel on what's going on with the kids. I'm proud of her, she's been working hard.
Jess moaned and her head rolled over to look at me. "Hey babe." I greeted. She smiled, "hey...how long have I been asleep" she mumbled. "the last fifteen hours. Your off watch today aren't you?" I asked her. she glanced at her watch. "yea, I'm off. I can't believe I slept all day. we're supposed to ride with Tanner to the city in a hour. My guy told me he finally found Harriet's file. They only keep the hard copy of documents on the files of infants for security reasons. Or so I was told. So we have to meet up with him today." she explained. "Well let's get ready then. what are we doing just sitting here chatting about our baby girl." I started perking up; then I leaned in for a kiss. Jess deepened it, and I heard a moan escape her lips.
Our lips entwined moving together at an average smooth pace. Jess ran her fingers through my hair that's now too long. After a moment she stopped kissing me and pulled away slowly. "What was that for?" I asked because she hasn't kissed me like that in a while. She's been so focused on finding Harriet; really, we both have. I can't member the last time we had done it. It's been that long. "I can't kiss my Wifey..." she said and I couldn't help but blush. She gave me an'I want sex look'. I couldn't help but feel the smile come across my face.
" Let's get dressed so we can see about loading up the jeep with the gear we need n help Tanner." Jess ordered. "Yes, Ma'am." I Rogered. I got up off the mattress and started digging through bags. I pulled out a bulletproof vest for Jess then mine. My boots and both our matching pair of cargo pants. I handed Jess her stuff. Then I got dressed. The only thing different about our geared up outfits was that I had guns. Jess still won't use one. She said one day she's gonna have to and when that day comes she'll do it without hesitating. For now, she doesn't have to; we're safe enough and not directly fighting them yet.
Jess and I walked out of the tent and across the camp to where the Jeep's were parked. I could see Tanner walking towards the Jeep carrying some duffel bags. One of those bags is full of meat. There's a ton of animals in these mountains. I can now say I have eaten mountain lion meat twice and black bear meat. The black bear meat lasted us a long time, even after sharing. We met Tanner at the Jeep.
Tanner threw the duffel bags he had in the back of the topless Jeep. "You two ladies ready to go?" He asked as we approached. "Ready as we can be?" I told him. "Alright then let's head out now and beat traffic." Tanner joked as he secured the bags then turned to me. "You don't have to check in with a boss man?" I asked him. "I did that already. He gave me the go-ahead that our contact has the file for the meetup. I know you wanna get this done so let's go." Tanner clarified. "What are we waiting for then?" Jess stated as she got in the back of the jeep ready to go first.
I got in the passenger and Tanner got in the driver's side. Tanner hit the ignition and we took off into the woods. We made a path through to an old dirt road that takes it to the outskirts of the city. I enjoy trips to the city, I wouldn't live here because of the crank infestation but it is nice to break into every once in a while.
We took the dirt road to where it lets out onto a highway. We took that highway for a while till we got to the city. Tanner decided it was best to circle and come in on the mountainside of the city where they haven't finished the wall yet. They've been using the mountain itself as a wall so it's easy to get into. We parked in an old abandoned garage and moved further into the city from there. Tanner brought the bag of fresh meat with him. I could tell it was heavy cuz he kept switching shoulders.
We followed Tanner to the meetup spot. Jess and I hung back in an alley while Tanner stood at the corner bus stop to meet with our inside contact. "When are we supposed to me up with him?" I asked Jess. She glanced in Tanner's direction, "any minute now?" she replied. I stared back at Tanner to see someone come and sit down next to him. They were in a trance coat, how cliche. I'm laughing inside at how unreal this situation is.
Two years ago I had a simple life. A girlfriend who I was happily in love with. My apartment and Kush job that I enjoyed. Now I live in a flipping spy movie just without the James Bond gadgets. When Tanner was done talking he joined us. Tanner handed over the file he just got from the contact.
Jess started flipping through all paperwork. She stopped at a picture, she's grown. She's smiling in the picture so I hope she's happy. Jess took the picture out of the file and put it in her shirt. I read over her shoulder what I could. A lot of it was medical charts and DNA graphs. Jess kept flipping till she came to this one certain page. "Look here, It says she has been assigned to group B. She will be moved to echo delta Romeo base until the experimental facilities are finished being built." she read off the page. "Whats The Experimental facilities about?" I couldn't help but ask. "I Don't know. Tanner, you know what this is?" Jess asked him. "No idea." he answered. " Let's get outta here before we're spotted." I suggested so we did. I know Jess wants to take a hard look at the file but we should head back to camp. We've got a lot of work to do.
Hey readers it's been a while. I thought I'd give u a holiday treat and write the final chapter for this section of the fanfic. Dont worry the saga will continue and instead of starting another fanfic all together. I'm just going to add it on to here. This is it. I left it open so I can revisit the parents later and I will. For now I want to move on. I got some new inspiration an I wanna give a shot at the maze. Hope u you have enjoyed it so far. Look out for updates soon!!!!
