Katsuki leaned back in his chair; ignoring the socializing class around him. The day so far had been boring and consisted of several normal school subjects; all of which he didn't have trouble with.

Lunch saw Katsuki hanging out with Deku and the two extras that had attached themselves to him. Shinsou was tolerable, but Hatsume was dangerously close to making Katsuki a murderer. Her enthusiasm over her "babies" was already starting to drive Katsuki up a wall. He could barely handle one nerd geeking out on him in his life; throwing two at him was asking a lot of his already small amount of patience.

His only consolation was their next subject was foundational hero studies. Katsuki couldn't help the smirk that made its way into his face. He couldn't wait to kick these extra's asses.

"I am, coming through the door like a normal person!" Came the boisterous voice of All Might as he burst into the room. The class erupted into excitement as the number one hero, wearing his silver age costume Katsuki noted, strutted up to the front of the class. Katsuki had a passing thought of how excited Izuku would be to find out All Might was teaching them.

"Today you will be participating in a battle trial! But in order to do your heroing to the fullest you must look the part!" All Might pulled out a remote and pressed a button opening 19 slots on the wall. "These cases contain your hero costumes. Get changed and meet me at ground beta!" Katsuki waited for a moment to avoid the immediate chaos that had followed that statement. After most of the class had left he grabbed his case and made his way to the changing room.

As he put on the costume a genuine smile creep onto his face. After using such a basic costume, which when he thought about it shouldn't really even be considered a costume, when going out at night with Izuku it felt nice to have a professionally made one. The design itself was exactly what he and Izuku had envisioned it to be.

As he slipped on the gauntlets he couldn't help but wonder if they worked like how he had described. He knew it was possible because Izuku had made a prototype that had worked perfectly. He would never forget the pure adrenaline that pumped through his system as the two bolted from Dagabah beach after the giant blast had gone off. People to this day still thought it was caused by a villain, and it had been several weeks before they could return to the beach to test their support items.

Surprisingly it didn't take long for the entire class to assemble. Though it did take All Might a few moments to reign the excited teens' attention back in. All Might explained that they would be doing indoor mock battles; with one team playing the villians and the other playing the heroes. Teams and matchups were to be chosen at random. Villains were given a fake weapon to guard and heroes had to either capture both the villains or capture the bomb before time ran out.

Katsuki ended up being paired with the girl who scored infinity on the ball throw, Uraraka he thought her name was, so it could have been worse. He could have been paired with the two idiots who continued to try and socialize with him even though he tried to make it very clear he had no interest in it; or worse he could have been paired with the half n half boy who had made it a habit to stare at him for no discernible reason.

She waved at him shyly as he approached. "I guess we're partners huh? I hope we can work well together. I'm Uraraka Ochaco!" She held her hand out for him to shake.

He tentatively took her hand. "Bakugou Katsuki." he offered. Something Izuku had done his best to drill into Katsuki's head was that if he was ever going to be a competent hero he needed to be able to work with others. It wasn't uncommon for heroes to work together on larger cases. It was easier to work with Izuku and even defer some form of leadership to him because of how long they had known each other and been working together. It was not so simple for the overly prideful Katsuki to give the same luxury to a stranger, but he would try because he couldn't be the best if he didn't.

The two were soon called as the villain team; going against them as the hero team were one Shoji Mezou and Todoroki Shoto. Katsuki shot Todoroki a glare only to find the boy already looking at him. He broke off eye contact quickly and turned to his partner. "Alright Round Face listen up. There's no way we're gonna lose to those idiots. Follow my lead and there'll be no doubt we'll win."

Uraraka looked him over for a minute. Katsuki did his best to not let his annoyance show too much. Finally she nodded. "Alright Bakugou. I'll follow you as long as you have an actual plan." She smiled. "Let's win this!"

They were allowed to enter the building before the hero team so they could plan out their defense strategy. Katsuki explained his plan and Uraraka paid close attention. She was nodding her head enthusiastically by the end; fully onboard with the plan. The two checked that their communication devices were working properly before setting everything into motion.

Meanwhile the hero team was doing little communicating outside. The plan for them was simple. Have Shoji find out where they were hiding, freeze the building over to trap the two inside, and capture the weapon. Shoto was certain of his success. As long as he made the building cold enough there was nothing either of them could do to escape from his ice.

All Might announced the start of the match and Shoji got to work. "They're both together on the middle floor. Sounds like they might be arguing." Shoji said, listening carefully. Shoto sighed. This wasn't unexpected; Katsuki seemed like he didn't play well with others. Shoto could understand the sentiment of not needing anyone but he understood when he needed to buckle down and work with another.

"Move aside so I don't freeze you along with them." Shoto said calmly stepping into the building. Shoji nodded and left the building. A moment after he was safely out the building iced over. Shoto made sure to push his ice as cold as it could go in order to nullify Katsuki's quirk. After that he made his way to where the two were located by Shoji, and likely where the bomb was.

He arrived to an empty room.

He looked around confused. This is where they had been, right? He glanced down at the floor. There were two areas not covered in ice; shards ringed the small, still smoking holes in the icy floor. Damnit. Had he not made it cold enough to cancel out Katsuki's quirk? Or did he have some sort of support gear Shoto hadn't accounted for? He was about to contact Shoji when the announcement came over his communicator. "Shoji from the hero team has been captured!"

Shoto paused. What? He hadn't heard anything which means either Uraraka was the one to take him out or Katsuki hadn't used his quirk. Honestly both scenarios seemed equally unlikely based on what he knew about his classmates so far. Though that didn't stop him from becoming on edge and ready for an ambush at any moment.

Even though he was sure he was stronger in terms of raw power then either of them a two on one fight was never favorable. Shoto opted to go looking for the weapon in hopes of saving some of his pride over his failed plan.

Meanwhile Katsuki and Uraraka made their way up the outside of the building to return to the room they had actually hidden the bomb in. Once safely in the room Uraraka deactivated her quirk on herself and took deep breaths. "You know." she started. "That was a really good plan Bakugou. Worked perfectly."

"Of course it did. I came up with it." He glanced at Uraraka. "You did a good job at your part too I guess. Plus those idiots were just as predictable as I thought they would be."

"I guess that's as close to praise as I'll get from you huh?" she smiled and looked over to the one indoor entrance to the room. "Do you think we'll be able to beat him? He seems really strong."

Katsuki grunted noncommittally. He had to admit he wasn't expecting Todoroki to try and counter his quirk so hard. The cold had made it hard to get his quirk activated but he had accounted for this obvious weakness with his costume. He'd requested that his gloves have a built-in heating system so he could get his hands to sweat no matter the temperature.

The plan though had required that Shoji be so confident in their win he wasn't monitoring their movements. As much as Katsuki was loath to admit it Todoroki seemed like the kind of guy who could instill that kind of confidence in someone. Even if it was just a side effect of his own confidence. His afterthought of fake arguing with Uraraka had probably helped keep him off guard as well. Thankfully that had been precisely what had happened and the villains were able to sneak up on Shoji and incapacitate him before he could alert his partner and without the use of Katsuki's quirk.

"We have the advantage in numbers. Plus he'll have to come at us head on." he allowed small explosions to pop off in his hands to warm up his quirk.

It wasn't long till Todoroki found them. He looked at the villains with the same blank look that seemed to be his default expression. Katsuki stepped forward while Uraraka hung back to keep watch over the weapon. "Alright Half n Half. Let's do this." Katsuki propelled himself forward with his explosions. Making sure to avoid the floor so Todoroki couldn't attempt to trap him again.

Todoroki reacted quickly and brought up a barrier of ice to meet him. Katsuki used his momentum to push himself over the barrier and used more explosions to propel himself downward onto Todoroki. Todoroki barely managed to roll out of the way in time. As Katsuki connected with the ground the ice under him cracked from the force of the attack. Katsuki didn't give Todoroki any time to catch his breath though. He used one hand to propel himself forward while the other stretched in front of him in preparation to attack.

Todoroki opted to roll out of the way again but wasn't quick enough as the attack grazed his right side. He recovered quickly though and sent a wave of ice towards Uraraka in an attempt to distract him. Uraraka fell into a defensive stance as Katsuki used one had to blow the ice to pieces. Uraraka touched several of the ice chunks to make them float then sent them Todoroki's way.

He was forced to divide his attention between the two opponents and seemed to regret his decision to bring the other opponent into the fight. "Your fight's with me Half n Half bastard!" Katsuki roared as he lunged at Todoroki. Katsuki struck Todoroki in the stomach with one of his gauntlets with enough force to knock the wind out of his lungs. Todoroki stumbled backwards and attempted to catch his breath. Katsuki leveled another blast in his direction.

Todoroki hastily pulled up a barrier that was easily shattered by the attack. Todoroki barely felt the heat of the blast as it struck him. At this point Todoroki had begun to shiver, and a thin coating of frost began to cover his right side.

"That all you got?" Katsuki taunted. Seemed like Todoroki was reaching his limit. Icing over the entire building had to have taken a lot out of him; it was only a matter of time before he reached a limit. Though Katsuki couldn't help but feel like Todoroki was holding back, and that was pissing him off.

Shoto grimaced as he tried to ignore the cold. His breath came out in clouds and his breathing was getting harder. He'd not planned ahead for his first plan to fail and now he was paying the price. He'd put most of what he had into that first attack because at the time he was certain of its success. Now he had little to use against both of his still standing opponents.

Before he could truly push himself to the point of hypothermia All Might called time and declared the villain team the winners. Katsuki's face soured as he let his quirk deactivate. Shoto was fairly certain that if looks could kill he would be dead several times over by now from the look Katsuki was giving him. Shoto wasn't sure why he looked like that since he'd just won but it wasn't like he really cared to find out.

Katsuki's teammate attempted to celebrate with him but him quickly turning the same expression on her stopped that rather quickly. It wasn't long until Shoto was escorted to the nurse's office to deal with the threat of frostbite or hypothermia. Recovery Girl looked at him disapprovingly as she treated him. He was given a quick lecture on not overusing his quirk before she left him alone to rest.

Shoto couldn't help but let his thoughts wander to everything that had gone wrong during the exercise. He was not looking forward to when his father found out what happened. Eventually his thought looped back around to Katsuki.

At first one might see him as nothing more than a bad-boy who was blessed with a good quirk for heroics, but Shoto had seen more than that. It was easy to miss but when you had grown up around pros like Shoto had it was much easier to spot. Katsuki carried himself like he was overconfident and cocky yes, but Shoto could also see the backings of experience there. He'd seen it during the quirk testing on their first day. The way he seemed to evaluate the best approach to each test was something that really none of the other students had done. Then today in the battle trial he'd come up with a solid plan and had seen through his own so easily. Despite his arrogant demeanor during their fight Shoto could see the calculating look in his eyes.

"Just who are you Bakugou Katsuki?" Shoto thought as he settled down to get some much needed sleep.
