Chapter 1

"Your son is safe. It was a successful operation." The surgeon informed Sho's mother that day.

"Oh, thank God!"

"But he still needs to stay a little longer here because we need to monitor his condition from time to time."

"Please do whatever you should Doctor to help my grandson."

"Don't worry ma'am. We'll take care of everything." The surgeon assured them with a smile.

"Thank you Doctor." Sho's mom said.

"You're welcome ma'am. Excuse me. I need to go now." The doctor politely said.

"Sure. Thanks again." Sho's grandmother responded.

In a hospital room after a few days...

"Arrietty! I will see you again right?!

"Arrietty! I will see you again right?!

"Answer me please!"

"Answer me please!"

"Arrietty!"

"Arrietty!"

"Sho!"

"Arrie..."

"Sho..."

"Sho!"

Sho then opened his eyes, but it was blurry at first. He can see a figure of a person and later on realized that it was his grandmother.

"Grandma..."

"Oh, Sho! Thank God you're awake now. How are you feeling?"

"I'm thirsty."

"Poor boy. We can't let you drink water yet. I'll wet your lips with a cotton ball dipped with a little amount of water."

His grandmother then wet his lips. He only licked his lips to taste the water, and he can see his grandmother's worried look. Sho only smiled at her.

"I'm fine now grandma. I'll get better in no time."

His grandmother couldn't hold her tears and cried.

Sho then was worried and tried to rise up from his bed, but he couldn't because everything feels heavy and painful. His grandmother then stood up and stopped Sho.

"Please Sho, rest. I'm okay. I'm sorry I got carried away."

"It's okay grandma. I think I better rest again."

"Okay Sho. I'll be here."

Sho then closed his eyes again, feeling weak.

On the other hand...

"Sho!"

"Sho!"

"Sho!"

"Sho!"

"Sho!"

Arrietty suddenly woke up.

"Just a dream..."

She felt sad again. She then rose up from the bed and walked towards her window, which she could see the dim light of the moon. A few months have passed since they moved from Sho's place. Her family was warmly welcomed by other borrowers in Spiller's place. She made new friends too, so as her parents. Although she was happy there, she couldn't deny the fact that she misses Sho. She still feels lonely at times.

She then decided to stroll outside of their tiny house. The moon was really bright that night. She can clearly see the surroundings. She saw a tiny stone at a distance where she can perfectly sit on. The place that they moved to is like a village to the borrowers. It's under a mansion where the local borrowers made the underground looked like a small village. You can see small houses that are perfectly arranged under a pile of bricks, just like their home in Sho's house.

She then sat on a stone where she can see the sky. It was a spot where there was an opening that lets the moonlight pierce through. She was just staring at the sky and wished that Sho was looking at it too on the other side of the world.

She startled when she heard footsteps coming towards her. When a figure was finally clear, she saw Spiller. It was a relief.

"Spiller! You scared me."

"Sorry. I just came from hunting."

"Oh, I see. You find it more convenient to hunt at night right?"

"Yes. Insects are easy to catch at night."

And she saw two legs of insects on Spillers back.

"And why are you outside? It's still dangerous out here."

"I can't sleep."

She heard Spiller released a deep sigh. He sat on the ground, and she could see that Spiller is a little bit tired.

"You should go to sleep. I'll be okay here."

"I don't feel like sleeping yet."

"Oh,..."

SILENCE.

"I've been thinking about this Arrietty."

Arrietty doesn't know why she started feeling so nervous of what Spiller would like to say.

"What is it?" She asked normally and pretended to be calm like nothing is going on inside her.

"I have always liked you ever since we first met."

She froze. Spiller continued.

"When your dad asked me to help his family move, I was really happy because I could finally see you again. I was also excited at the thought that I can see you whenever I want if you move because we'll be near. But when I came to help you that day and saw that you were talking to that boy, I felt anger. I felt like you betrayed our kind because we shouldn't be making any contact with a human in the first place."

Arrietty tried to speak but she couldn't. Her tears are starting to run down her cheeks. Spiller still continued without looking at her.

"However, when I saw that you were really sad while we were leaving that place, I thought that I should give you some food to ease your sadness. I was happy seeing you smile a bit at that moment. So I thought again that I should ask about that boy and hopefully make you forget about him. But when you argued that he was a good kind, I thought that my attempt of letting you forget him failed after all. You have developed a connection with that boy. And seeing you right now missing him makes me think that you love him."

At this time, Spiller was looking at her intensely, like he was holding back his anger and tears. Arrietty is now crying and does not know what to say.

"I may only be good at hunting because I am not like you and your family who live in a modern life, but I have a sharp sense of understanding emotions. My emotions affect my hunting, so I should have good control over it. And I guess you can't sleep because of him or you had a dream about him."

"Spiller, I..." Arrietty couldn't continue because her tears were like a river already. It won't stop.

Spiller then stood up and said his last words for the night.

"Forget that boy Arrietty. You shouldn't be in love with him. He's not our kind. Feelings are not enough to let you live. Survival strategies will."

Arrietty then heard Spiller's footsteps slowly gone,
