Nervous energy filled Izuku as he waited for his match. He was currently sitting by himself as the classes were all sitting together and Shinsou was in a prep room getting ready for his match. He bounced his leg impatiently as he glanced down at his notebook. Today would be a great day to take notes. There were so many amazing quirks to watch in action! Izuku took a deep breath to calm himself. He'd started to attract stares from the rest of his class. He had to focus; this was his best shot at getting into the hero course. He wasn't about to blow it cause of all the exciting quirks around him.
Izuku's eyes darted down to the field as Present Mic started to announce the first match. "From general studies Shinsou Hitoshi! And from the hero course Kaminari Denki!"
Izuku looked between the two. Kaminari. If Izuku remembered correctly that was one of the two people from Katsuki's class that he was friends with. Or as he would put it "who he could tolerate". Izuku flipped through his notebook till he found the page he was looking for. Electrification huh? A potentially devastating quirk if used well. What had Katsuki said about the drawback though? His eyes shifted through the page. Right he "went dumb", as Katsuki had so eloquently put it, if he used it too much. Izuku refocused to the field below. All Shinsou had to do was get him to talk and it was over. Right before the match started his phone pinged. He took it out and saw a message from Katsuki.
Kacchan
Kacchan: Dunce face doesn't stand a fucking chance. He runs his mouth way too much. Eye bags won this as soon as the matchup was decided.
Izuku frowned and answered him back.
Deku: You never know. Kaminari might surprise us.
Kacchan: Not like you actually want that idiot to win deku. You'll be rooting for your fucking classmate
Deku: Are you implying you won't be?
Kacchan: Only one I care about making it through this shit is you. That way I can beat you myself
Izuku smiled at his phone. Katsuki had an odd way of showing support but once you understood him it was easy to know what he actually meant.
Down on the field Hitoshi was mentally preparing himself. His opponent smiled at him. "Hey! Let's do our best dude yeah?"
Hitoshi smiled back. Oh he'd already won this. "Yeah. Let's do our best." With a start from Present Mic Hitoshi got to work. Kaminari started to fire up his quirk and Hitoshi took his chance. "Neat quirk you got there. What's it called?" he asked, preparing himself should Kaminari not answer him.
"Oh, it-" Kaminari's face went blank and his quirk fizzled out. The audience and most other spectators were confused.
"Sorry about this but I can't afford not to win here. Walk out of bounds and then flick yourself." Hitoshi ordered. Kaminari then promptly turned away and did just that. The crowd let out confused murmurs. What could only be described as a cackle came from where class 1-a was sitting. Hitoshi sighed. That was undoubtedly Katsuki. Kaminari, who had just been freed from the control, looked around confused. Hitoshi walked up to him and rubbed the back of his neck. "Sorry about that. No hard feelings?" he asked, holding out his hand.
Kaminari blinked in surprise before smiling and taking Hitoshi's hand. "Nah. No hard feelings man."
After that Hitoshi rejoined Izuku where their class was sitting. "Good job Shinsou!" Izuku said as soon as Hitoshi had sat down.
"Thanks. I'm just glad that guy wasn't upset about it." Hitoshi said glancing over to where 1-a was sitting.
The two settled in for Hatsume's match. How it went down honestly shouldn't have surprised the two. They did both feel bad for the poor Iida guy who she was using as a walking advertisement. After an embarrassingly long time Hatsume spared Iida any further embarrassment by walking out of bounds. She'd done what she wanted to today.

KingExplosionMurder: Damn crazy you have no fucking mercy
InventorExtraordinaire: It was excellent marketing! Thank your classmate for me!
KingExplosionMurder: Not fucking happening any time soon. I think you broke him. He's still sputtering about "being used" and shit.
What'sSleep?: Oof. Was funny to watch tho
AllMightFanBoy: Hatsume I hope you at least apologized to him. He looked kinda upset
InventorExtraordinaire: Nope!
AllMightFanBoy: Kacchan I might need you pass along a message
KingExplosionMurder: Fuck that. Make her do it herself
AllMightFanBoy: You and me both know that won't happen
KingExplosionMurder: Fucking fine
What'sSleep: Whipped
KingExplosionMurder: YOU SHUT THE FUCK UP EYE BAGS. YOU'RE DEAD
Izuku and Shinsou looked over where 1-a was sitting and saw the resulting explosion from Shinsou's comment. Shinsou made no attempt to stifle his laugh. Izuku sighed but laughed with him. "You probably shouldn't tease Kacchan so much. He might actually kill you one of these days."
Shinsou shrugged. "Nah, that'd make you upset and in general he seems quite adverse to doing that."
Izuku chuckled. "I guess you're right." He handed his notebook to Shinsou. "I have to go get ready for my match. Watch this for me?" he asked.
Shinsou nodded. "No problem. Go show them what we can do." He smiled.
Izuku smiled back as he walked off. "Don't worry about me! I got this!"
As Izuku walked down to the prep room he did his best to mentally prepare himself. His opponent wasn't from Katsuki's class, so that meant they were from class 1-b then. Sadly he didn't really have any information on their quirks. He'd just have to do what he did when he fought villains; hang back till he can figure out their quirk and the best way around it.
He swung by his class's prep room and grabbed the other support items he'd left there. He snapped a sturdy red belt with several pouches on it around his waist. He checked all the pouches to make sure the items inside were still there before heading to his individual prep room.
He'd managed a few warm up stretches by the time he was called to the field. He did one final check over his support items before rushing to the field. Present Mic's announcement soon filled his ears. "From the hero course, class 1-b we have Honenuki Juzo!" The boy in question stepped into the arena. Izuku took a deep breath to calm his nerves. "And his opponent from general studies, Midoriya Izuku!" Izuku stepped into the ring and did his best to not look nervous. From across the field Honenuki gave him a thumbs up and a smile; Izuku returned the smile. "And start!"
Honenuki immediately touched the ground; Izuku watched as his hand sunk into it. Izuku pulled out his staff and tried to use it to push off the ground but was surprised when it too sunk in. "He can use his quirk over this large an area that quickly?" Izuku thought as he glanced over the field. Honenuki was making his way towards Izuku by what Izuku could only describe as swimming through the soft material of the floor. Izuku's thought raced. He tried to move his feet but had little luck doing so; he did however manage to get his staff free. He quickly threw together a plan as Honenuki drew closer. He pulled two things off his belt; one being a capsule of some kind the other a somewhat familiar looking capture weapon. "This is my shot at the hero course. I can't afford to lose here." Izuku thought as he locked onto his opponent.
When Honenuki reached Izuku he attempted to grab him and take him out of bounds. The two grapled for a minute; Izuku barely managing to keep himself from being thrown out. Izuku forced his staff between them to give himself some room to breath. Honenuki came at him again quickly and he let off an explosion between them to make sure he kept some distance between them.
Honenuki warrily eyed him and didn't immediately try to approach again. "Looks like our general studies student is struggling a bit! How long can he hold off Honenuki's assault!" Present Mic's commentary rang through the stadium. Izuku frowned, that was not helping him focus.
Shouta also frowned at his friend. He clearly wasn't reading the situation the same way Shouta was. The general studies student was clearly planning and waiting for an opening. He studied the capture weapon as well. Not dissimilar to his own though he could tell from here it wasn't made from the same material. The kid had clearly pulled it out for a reason and Shouta had to admit he was a bit excited to see how he used it.
Finally Honenuki decided to rush at Izuku again. Izuku saw his chance and took it. When Honenuki had drawn close enough he threw the capsule he'd gotten off his belt in front of Honenuki. The smoke that started pouring from it caused Honenuki to stop, surprised. Izuku took the chance while he was off guard to throw out the capture weapon and wrap it firmly around his arm. He pulled as hard as he could while using an explosion, not unlike how Katsuki does to get airborne, to throw Honenuki out of the ring. Honenuki, still caught off guard by the whole situation, put up little initial resistance and by the time he did it was too late. He landed on his back outside of the ring while Izuku panted heavily.
There was silence for a moment before the crowd erupted into cheers and Present Mic enthusiastically named Izuku the winner. Shouta allowed himself a smile, which he hid in his capture weapon, at the victory. Him and his fellow general studies student had potential; that's for sure.
Izuku walked over to the recovering Honenuki and held out his hand. "That was a good match!" Izuku said enthusiastically.
Honenuki smiled and took his hand. "Yeah caught me off guard there. Good match."
Shinsou was smirking at him when he returned to the stands. "You sure showed them. Good job Midoriya." Shinsou said, handing Izuku his notebook back.
Izuku smiled and took the notebook before sitting down. "Thanks. I was a little worried there for a bit but I pulled through." Both decided to check their phones to see if anything had been said.

InventorExtraordinaire: Good job Midoriya! You used our babies so well!
AllMightFanBoy: Hatsume please
KingExplosionMurder: I'd bet money the nerd is red and stuttering right now
What'sSleep?: It's a bet you would have won
AllMightFanBoy: ANYWAY, Kacchan isn't your match soon?
KingExplosionMurder: Yeah, against round face
What'sSleep?: What's with you and nicknames anyway?
AllMightFanBoy: He has trouble remembering people's names. He has ever since we were little. So he uses nicknames that he'd remember a person by
KingExplosionMurder: SHUT THE FUCK UP DEKU
What'sSleep?: Eyebags is how you remember me huh?
AllMightFanBoy: You really do need to get more sleep Shinsou
What'sSleep?: I get enough to function
AllMightFanBoy: And how much is that?
What'sSleep: Look none of us have great sleep schedules let's leave it at that
InventorExtraordinaire: So why are you Deku then?
AllMightFanBoy: Ah, well when we were younger we didn't really get along. But the name just kinda stuck you know?
What'sSleep?: You two not getting along? Hard to believe
KingExplosionMurder: Well it is fucking true. We had a rough start but we eventually worked shit out. Anyway I have to go prepare for my match
AllMightFanBoy: Good luck Kacchan!
What'sSleep?: Not even a goodbye? What a cruel world we live in
Katsuki pocketed his phone as he walked to the prep room. He wouldn't admit this but he was a bit nervous for his match. "Against round face first round huh?" he said to the empty room, frowning. He'd seen how capable she was before, namely in the battle trial, and could admit she wasn't as worthless as the rest of his class. There was no way he was gonna let Izuku outshine him though, so there was no way he was gonna lose.
As he was thinking about how to approach his match there was a knock on the door. His gaze slid over to the door and he frowned. Who would be coming here to see him before his match? No way Izuku or Shinsou were coming; the nerd would be too wrapped up in note taking and Shinsou didn't seem like the type. Hatsume only acknowledged his existence if it was to test her support items so it definitely wasn't her. "Yo Bakubro, can we come in?" Kirishima's voice came through the door.
Katsuki sighed, so it was Kirishima huh? He said we so it was likely Kaminari was with him as well. "Fucking whatever. Come in if you want." Katsuki said, only slightly annoyed. That slight annoyance turned into full blown annoyance when not two but four idiots entered the room. Of course there was Kirishima and Kaminari but there were two other idiots with them that Katsuki knew were in their class but couldn't remember their names. "What's up with the fucking tag alongs Shitty Hair?" he asked.
"Oh! They wanted to come along when I said me and Kaminari were gonna wish you luck!" Kirishima smiled and gestured to the other two.
The one with pink skin took that as a chance to come forward and introduce herself. "Hi! I'm Ashido Mina!" She introduced herself enthusiastically.
The other smiled and waved, far more subdued than Ashido. "Name's Sero Hanta. Nice to properly meet you Bakugou."
Katsuki stared at the two for a moment. "Why the hell would I care about you two?" He said, shifting his gaze to Kirishima. He shot the red head an accusatory scowl and Kirishima fidgeted slightly where he stood but held Katsuki's gaze. "So what the hell got Raccoon Eyes and Tape Arms here so interested in me anyway?" Katsuki directed the question at Kirishima.
Sero pointed to himself confused while Kaminari slung an arm over his shoulders and pat his back. Mina looked between the two boys curiously. Kirishima's expression brightened as he started to explain. "Well when me and Kaminari said we were gonna come down here and wish you luck on your match they asked to tag along! Said they were curious about how the strongest person in our class prepped for a match."
Katsuki would be lying if he said that complement didn't feel good to hear, though he stamped the feeling down quickly as to not show it. "Fucking whatever. If you idiots wanna learn something I guess you came to the right person." Katsuki smirked.
The others smiled back at him. Kaminari removed his arm from Sero's shoulders and fished out his phone from his pocket. "Bakugou you should give us your number so we can add you to our group chat dude!" Kaminari held his phone excitedly.
Katsuki thought about it. He had quite enough to deal with in the other chat he was in, and didn't want to be part of in the first place, so he wasn't too keen on joining another. He looked over all their hopeful faces and found he couldn't say no. That was a new feeling for Katsuki. The only other person who could have that effect on him was Izuku and they'd known each other for years. He'd barely met these people and yet here he was fishing his phone out of his pocket and giving Kaminari his number; much to the joy of everyone else in the room. Thankfully he was spared any further interaction when he was called for his match.
The four wished him good luck as he left the room to head to the field. It wasn't long till Present Mic's annoyingly loud voice filled the stadium. "From the hero course class 1-a Bakugou Katsuki!" Katsuki nonchalantly walked into the arena and waited. "And his opponent from the same class Uraraka Ochaco!" Uraraka walked up to stand opposite of Katsuki on the other side, a determined look on her face.
Katsuki felt his lips twitch into the smallest of smiles. This match would test him; he'd have to work for it. He wouldn't have it any other way. "Oi Round Face!" Katsuki yelled across the field. Uraraka startled slightly, looking confused at being addressed. "Do your fucking best, you got it? This win won't count if you don't give it everything."
Uraraka frowned for a moment before her face briefly changed to one of confusion and shock. "Are you… encouraging me Bakugou?" she asked.
Katsuki huffed. "Take it however you want Round Face. Just don't disappoint me."
Uraraka smiled and nodded. "Ok Bakugou I'll give it everything I got. Don't you hold back either got it? It'll feel all the better when I win!"
Katsuki smirked and flexed his hands in preparation. "Oh I fucking like that spirit Round Face, let's go!"
Both fell into fighting stances and waited for the signal to start.
"GO!"
