Star Trek: Generations: Agents of Yesterday: In the Core of the Shadow

Captain's Log: Stardate: 7337.3: The Miki Endo is en route to Edren Four to assist Federation miners working alongside the Gorn Hegemony. Ever since the fight there between Kirk and a Gorn captain after the massacre at Cestus Three, the planet has become not only a position of interest but the center of peaceful cooperation. I must admit my own shortcomings regarding the Gorn. They're more short-tempered than a Tellarite and the littlest thing will set them off. I'm somewhat surprised nothing has happened as of yet. Here's to hoping that continues but the crew and I are prepared if the Gorn try to engage in, as Admiral Garrett says: "cowboy diplomacy."

Captain Miyachika swiveled in her chair when she heard the turbolift doors open. Lieutenant Tarsi and Ensign Hunter stepped off the turbolift.

"Us red shirts have to stick together," Tarsi said just before the pair split to go to their respective stations. The Andorian took her spot at the station in front of Miyachika who swiveled back to face the viewscreen while resting her right leg on her left.

"Having fun with the new guy, Tarsi?"

"Just showing him the ropes of what I expect out of my security detail."

"Go easy on him at first."

"I was planning to lure him into a false sense of security before showing him what I really expect."

"I'll do my best, sir," Hunter said turning to his station. Miyachika watched him and gave him a small smile.

"I'm sure you will." Miyachika shifted her eyes to her helmsman. "Helm, what's our ETA?"

The yellow shirted human looked down at his control board. "At current speed, three hours twenty-seven minutes."

"In a hurry to get there, Captain?" Holiday asked leaning against the railing.

Miyachika shrugged. "I can think of better things we can do but possibly this joint effort will create a good relationship with the Gorn."

"To the point they'll join the Federation?"

"One step at a time." Miyachika stood up from her chair and headed for the turbolift. "Contact me when we enter the system. I'll be in my quarters.

Miyachika flopped down onto her bed enjoying the feeling of stretching out her legs after sitting for a few hours. She reached over to the shelf that was hidden behind a sliding panel and pulled out one of her copies of a Japanese manga. Most people read such comics on a computer but she preferred the real thing, the way it was meant to be read. This one was titled Naruto, about a blonde haired ninja that wanted to become the leader of his village and protect everyone he cared about. She had started reading this particular series after she was assigned to the Windcharger. She didn't know of anyone else who read this stuff which helped her avoid spoilers. The plot included a new ninja war where the five great ninja nations joined forces. She couldn't wait to see how things turned out.

She had only read a few pages before the high pitched whistle caught her attention.

"Captain Miyachika," Shihori said through the comm system. "We're receiving a distress call from Edren Four."

"Increase to warp eight. I'm on my way." She tossed her book on her bed before darting out the door to closest turbolift. Cassie Holiday stood up from the command chair as the captain emerged from the turbolift. "Report."

"They're reporting the Gorn has opened fire and are attacking the miners," Holiday said.

"What ship is assigned to the planet?"

"The USS Zhang He."

"That's Yeon Tae's ship."

"They're reporting they're trying to hold off the Gorn but they're taking heavy damage."

Miyachika slammed her hand into the console on her chair's arm console. "Red alert! All hands battlestations!" She gripped the arms of her chair as she watched the streaking stars on the viewscreen. She played out multiple scenarios in her head but figured the actual situation would not play out as she imagined. She hated going into any situation without any information. All she had was the Zhang He was being attacked by the Gorn.

"We're entering the Edren System, sir."

"Slow to impulse. Put Edren Four on screen." The screen switched over to the reddish brown planet. Something green caught Miyachika's eye. She stood up from her chair. "Magnify."

The ranger class USS Zhang He was adrift with green plasma leaking from its hull.

"Sensors report lifesigns aboard the Zhang He," Tenzing, the science officer said staring into her scope. "But not the full complement of a ranger class vessel."

"What about the Gorn? Can you locate their ships?"

"There is debris consistent of one Gorn ship but sensors cannot detect any other Gorn ship."

"I wonder where they went," Miyachika said. "Hail the Zhang He."

A moment later the screen switched to a Korean woman with dyed blonde hair that was now messed up. She also had a bleeding gash on her forehead probably from smacking her head off of something during the attack.

"Yeon Tae!"

"Haru! Be careful, there's another Gorn ship out there but we don't know where it went."

"What happened?"

"We don't know. We were running scans of the planet helping out those on the ground and then suddenly one of the Gorn ships exploded. The Gorn captain of the other ship refused to believe it wasn't us and opened fire. We lost contact with the teams on the planet and our ship was disabled."

"We'll send over some repair teams to help you get back on your feet."

"Our sensors are down so we can't find anything out about our away teams."

Miyachika turned to her science officer. "Tenzing, scan the..."

"Captain, our sensors just went down."

Miyachika's eyes widened. "Evasive..."

She was cut off again but this time it was from disruptors slamming into the shields causing the ship to lurch to the side throwing Miyachika and everyone else to the deck.
