"You did fucking what?!" Katsuki yelled as he pinned Todoroki to the 'd all just barely managed to regroup and get out of the danger zone when Todoroki had dropped the news that he'd seen Izuku and let him get away. Todoroki at least had the decency to look ashamed as he kept his gaze steady on the ground.
"Look there had to be a reason he let him go, right?" Shinsou suggested.
"I wouldn't have been able to force him to come with me. He said he wanted to stay. To try and take down the league from the inside." Todoroki explained, looking up at the group.
Katsuki's grip tightened and his hand started to smoke. "He, what." Katsuki said with barely contained rage. Katsuki was mad and not just at the half and half boy in front of him but at Izuku as well. Katsuki knew the idiot had been getting more and more reckless as the school year progressed but he never imagined he'd do something like this. As he glared at the boy in front of himi he realized that Todoroki probably didn't have a choice. He reluctantly released him and crossed his arms. "Start from the beginning Icyhot. What happened exactly?"
Todoroki explained the details of his and Izuku's relatively short encounter. He waited till the end to drop another bomb. "He also has a quirk now." Everyone stared at him like he was crazy. "Apparently the league's boss has the power to give and take quirks and gave him one."
Katsuki wasn't sure how to react to that. A quick glance around told him no one else did either. A silence fell over the group and the sounds of All Might fighting off the villain seemed to grow louder in the silence. "It probably was that guy All Might is fighting right now. Before we slipped out it looked like he was using multiple quirks." Shinsou said, breaking the silence.
"Then let All Might kick his ass for us. We need to tell Aizawa what's going on." Katsuki relented. As much as he wanted to go back there and track down his idiot of a friend, he knew it was way too dangerous now and there'd be no point. Katsuki knew when to admit he was outclassed and that villain outclassed him by a longshot.
"This is where we part for now then. You know how to get in contact if you need my help. I'll let you know if I hear anything you might find interesting." Dabi said as he turned away from the group. "Tell Eraser I said hi." He paused in his walk. "And take care of yourselves." With that he'd vanished into another nearby alleyway.
"Well let's get a fucking move on then. It's gonna be a long night." Katsuki said as he started towards the train station.
Of course the trains were down so it took the group of three much longer to get to Aizawa then any of them would have liked.
When the group of three showed up on Shouta's doorstep at about 3am he didn't ask questions. He invited them in, sat them down on his couch, and gave them blankets. None of them said anything for a while, but Shouta didn't mind waiting for them to share why they were here. Finally Todoroki spoke up and explained what happened. Shouta frowned as he explained. He hadn't expected them to be at the warehouse on the day of the raid. It was bad timing he guessed. Though if they hadn't been there they wouldn't have found out what was going on with Izuku. Not to say he was particularly thrilled to hear what Izuku was doing.
As soon as Todoroki had finished explaining what happened Shouta sent them all to bed. Katsuki attempted to protest but it was easy to get him to agree. He seemed exhausted. Shouta watched them head to the guest room. He sat down heavily on the couch. He couldn't help but be worried about Izuku. He was putting himself in so much danger but Shouta couldn't do anything. From what he'd heard after All Might defeated the villain, All for One if he remembered correctly, the league had vanished. Which meant Izuku was gone with them. Shouta glanced back at the door to the guest room. Those kids would need his support not only in finding their friend but in making sure they stayed ok emotionally. He glanced down at the papers on the table. Yeah he'd make sure he was there for them.
The move into the dorms had been an unexpected but pleasant change in Katsuki's opinion. As much as he wasn't looking forward to being around his class all the time it was starting to get hard to be in his old apartment even with Shinsou pretty much always being there. Aizawa had even shown him a special room that he could stash all their vigilante gear in. It was near Aizawa's own room so there was little chance of anyone coming across it accidentally.
Speaking of Aizawa he'd been keeping a closer eye on him, Shinsou, and even Todoroki and Hatsumei since they'd gone to his house that night. It wasn't hard to tell that he was worried about him. It had become so apparent in fact that some other members of his class had begun to notice their teacher's less than stellar mood lately. Many of them had already connected it to the still missing student from the summer camp but didn't know the full extent of what was going on.
Though the class had little time to sit and wonder about it as the provisional licensing exam was fast approaching. Even though Katsuki had his license already he still trained with the rest of his class in order to perfect some special moves. Aizawa pulled him aside one day to explain what he would be doing the day of the exam. "You don't have to come if you don't want to. If you do you'll simply watch in the stands with me since there's no need for you to take the exam again. Or you can stay here, maybe go out if you want to. I'll leave the choice up to you kid. Just let me know what you wanna do." Aizawa gave him a quick squeeze on the shoulder and a smile before sending him back to his training.
Katsuki figured that him suggesting to "go out" was Aizawa's way of giving him permission to do vigilante work while he was out with the class. Katsuki told Aizawa he'd stay behind as soon as training was over for the day. Aizawa gave him a knowing smile and told him to stay safe.
The day of the exam was bound to be an interesting one for Katsuki. None of his class, except Todoroki, knew he already had his license. Today there was no way he could get out of telling them. As he walked into the common area that morning Kirishima slung an arm over his shoulders and smiled at him. "You ready for today bro?"
Katsuki gently removed Kirishima's arm from his shoulders as he went into the kitchen to get some breakfast. "Nah. I'm not going. No need for me to go if I already have my license. I'm sure you idiots will be ok without me for one day."
Kirishima stared at him as he prepared a bowl of cereal. "You already have yours? How?" Kirishima finally asked.
Katsuki looked up at him and noticed the rest of the self-proclaimed "bakusquad" looking in on the conversation in interest. "I had the opportunity to take the exam earlier and so I took it and I passed. That's all there is to it." Katsuki explained as he sat down at the table to eat his breakfast.
The rest of them sat down at the table as well. "How'd you get the chance to take it before us?" Mina asked, confused.
Katsuki simply shrugged. "Yeah you're like one of the top students in our class but no one else in our class got the chance to get theirs any earlier." Kaminari pointed out.
"Maybe he did something cool that a hero saw and managed to get him in to take the test early?" Sero theorized.
Katsuki sighed, annoyed. "Look I don't know why the hell I was allowed to take it early but I did. Leave it there."
They all looked at each other but decided to drop it. They'd all noticed his even worse than usual mood in the wake of Izuku's kidnapping. Katsuki admitted privately that they were pretty good at cheering him up and honestly deserved something for putting up with his bullshit all the time but he'd never admit any of that out loud. They kept the atmosphere light as they all ate breakfast by talking about all sorts of random topics that Katsuki didn't even bother to try and keep up with. The constant conversation was nice though.
Soon enough Aizawa came and got the class to go to the exam. Katsuki got more confused looks as he made no move to join them but thankfully his… friends took care of explaining. Katsuki sat in the empty dorm for a long time after the rest of his classmates left. He tried to keep his thoughts from wandering too much but with no distractions it was pretty hard to stop them.
"You just gonna sit here and mope all day or are we gonna go out and do something?" Katsuki whirled around on instinct and released an explosion in the direction of the voice. He blinked at the empty spot confused and looked up. "Wow you really are high strung right now huh? Explode now ask questions later?" Shinsou teased as he released his capture weapon from the light he'd attached it to in order to avoid the blast.
"Damnit Eyebags don't do that shit to me! I don't need to get in trouble from Aizawa for blowing up you or the dorms!" Katsuki yelled as he turned around to properly face Shinsou. "How the hell did you even get in here? There's only one door."
Shinsou shrugged. "There's plenty of windows and I think Aizawa left his unlocked on purpose." Shinsou smirked as Katsuki's hands sparked. "Now i'll ask again. You gonna sit and feel sorry for yourself all day or are we gonna go do something?"
Katsuki let the small explosions fizzle out and returned Shinsou's smirk. "Let's go kick some ass. I need to let out some rage."
Izuku fidgeted nervously as he looked around at the assembled villains. He had to admit it wasn't the nicest to have to live in an abandoned warehouse, but when you're living with villains that are on the run from the heroes and police alike you didn't have a ton of options. He'd just have to make due. Not like he didn't have some experience with roughing it.
On the plus side he'd gotten pretty good with his quirk. He found out that not only can he control fire but he could manipulate the size of it. Also it seemed he was mostly immune to any fire under his control. This immunity did not extend to fire he wasn't controlling though. He'd learned that the hard way; the villains he was with were not exactly kind or patient teachers. Izuku was thankful for all the time he'd been able to spend analyzing Katsuki, Todoroki, and Dabi's quirks. While his new quirk differed from them quite a bit his knowledge of them helped form a solid foundation for learning to use his own quirk.
The only thing really stopping him from improving was his own mental block. Despite being around people with fire based quirks on a regular basis Izuku couldn't help but still feel apprehensive about his own. Fire was… just so destructive. If he lost control he could easily hurt someone. Well he'd likely be forced to hurt people but he didn't want to hurt them badly if he could help it. Deep down he knew that since he could control it that there was less of a chance for it to hurt people, but his own mind still provided a major roadblock to him. Maybe he'd take up Aizawa's offer for some therapy after all this was over.
Currently though he was trying to figure out if there was any way to warn his friends that Toga would be present at the licensing exam. Unfortunately he didn't think there was any way to warn them without drawing suspicion to himself. He still didn't have the full trust of the league and it seemed like Shigiraki was still mildly suspicious of him. Izuku sighed and leaned back against a crate. He didn't think the rest of the league knew he was Rabbit but their boss, All for One, definitely had. Izuku still wasn't sure why he hadn't told the rest of them. Maybe in a weird way he was protecting Izuku? Izuku shook his head violently. No way would he start thinking like that about a villain. At least he wouldn't have to worry about him anymore. Apparently All Might was able to take him down. Which didn't surprise Izuku; it was All Might after all.
The resulting tantrum from Shigiraki had been terrifying to watch and with Kurogiri off doing whatever he happened to be doing there was really no one to stop him. Izuku had done his best to blend into the background and avoid the angry man's notice and thankfully it had worked. Toga had also hung back with him but still watched Shigiraki with morbid curiosity.
Izuku sighed and pulled out a notebook. Not all the members of the league were here currently so he thankfully was being left alone. When Toga was around he rarely got any peace. She'd likely attached herself to him because they were close in age, and wasn't that a scary thought. Izuku shook himself out of those thoughts. Since he had time he needed to use it wisely.
He'd been encouraged by All for One to continue his analysis, likely for the villain's use, and had been given a new notebook to do just that. Honestly the amount of information All for One had on him was a bit frightening. Izuku sighed and cracked open the notebook. He'd already begun putting together analysis of the league's quirks. He'd had to find out a lot through sparring but at least he'd gotten the information he needed. When it came to Toga and Twice they were more than happy to explain how their quirks worked to their newest member. That was likely because out of everyone in the league they trusted him the most.
As he finished up a page on Mr. Compress he let his thoughts wander. He hoped Katsuki was doing ok. There was no doubt in his mind he'd been furious after learning about what Izuku was doing. If he was being honest his plan had been hastily thrown together in the aftermath of the panic from being kidnapped. He knew realistically he couldn't just fight the league; they'd kill him before he could take them all out. He had to think of a way to take them down without so blatantly risking himself.
He'd basically settled on slipping information to the heroes, or more likely Katsuki or Shinsou, whenever he could. If an opportunity arose to take them all out in one move he'd make sure to take it. Todoroki had said they'd help however they could from the outside and Izuku knew he could count on them. Now he had to make sure to do this in a way that the league wouldn't find out. Couldn't be too hard, right?
