"Are you sure you don't want me to come with you?" I asked Morgana one final time.

Morgana was going to visit her father's grave, and I usually went with her, but this time, she suddenly decided that she didn't want me to come.

"Yes, I'm sure," She said, turning around from her horse and grabbing my shoulders. "I feel bad for always making you come with me, and last time you came with me, you were sick, but I wasn't even aware of it until we came back and you got fainted."

"I can always come, it's no hassle for me," I tried again.

Morgana smiled and pulled me into a hug. "It warms my heart to know that you care about me so much, but I'll be fine, I promise," She said. "I have Gwen with me," She added, turning to point to our maid.

"Well, if you're sure..." I trailed off.

"I am," She said, and she gave me one final hug. Arthur came over, and he helped Morgana get on her horse.

"I hope your trip isn't too upsetting," He offered.

Morgana nodded. "Thank you, Arthur."

Arthur turned to the knight that was at the very front. "Make sure you return to Camelot before dusk."

Sir Robert nodded. "Yes, Sire."

I looked up at Morgana and said, "I'll see you soon, okay?"

She nodded. "Of course."

As she and the group left, Merlin came down the palace steps. "Where are they going?"

"Morgana's on a pilgrimage to her father's grave," Arthur answered.

I looked after them and sighed. I was going to be by myself all day! Well, they'd be back soon.

But I had the weirdest feeling that they weren't.

My weird feeling turned out to be true. Around the afternoon, they had not returned, so I just dismissed it as they were running late. It was in the early evening did I knew that something was definitely wrong. I ran all the way to the council chambers, and I burst into the room just as I catch the end of what Arthur said, "There's no sign of her anywhere."

"Then we must find her!" I said, coming to a stop beside Merlin.

Uther nodded. "Of course we will, Elizabeth, calm down," He said to me. Then he turned to Arthur. "Send riders to the outlying villages. I want every guard, every sentry looking for her."

Arthur nodded and turned to one of the nights. "Dispatch them immediately."

Arthur and Merlin were going to go themselves to look for Morgana, and I found them just before they did, all dressed up in my adventure clothes.

"Hold on!" I shouted after them, running over. "If you're leaving to look for Morgana, I'm coming with you."

They were both about to protest, when I put my hand up. "But nothing! Morgana is my best friend, and if there is any chance that she is out there and not hurt them you damn know I'll be the first person looking for her!" I say, and push passed Merlin and Arthur to get outside.

I quickly got onto a horse before anyone could stop me. And after Arthur had a private talk with the knights, no one did. So we left, and we just rode for the longest time until we came to a scene, where several knights of Camelot laid dead.

The first thing Arthur said when we got off of our horses was, "Check to see if anyone's alive! It's Mercian craftsmanship."

I ran over to the nearest knight and quickly checked his pulse. My heart dropped when I realized that there wasn't one.

Suddenly Merlin called out, "Arthur. It's a ransom note! They've taken Morgana hostage."

Arthur ran over to where Merlin was, and I quickly joined them. Arthur looked down and inspected the ground. "Tracks lead off this way," He declared, so we all started following them. I still wasn't the best tracker, so I just followed behind the men.

I stuck to Arthur, and there was suddenly running footsteps. Arthur and I exchanged glances, and he put his sword away, taking a crossbow instead. He leaned against a tree as I leaned against the other, and he waited a few seconds before he jumped out of his hiding place. I came out of mine too, but all I saw was Morgana, only in her underdress.

"Morgana!" I cried happily, and I ran over to her. I pulled my jacket off and wrapped it around her. There was scratches and bruises and bumps all over her. She slipped her arms through as I pulled her into a hug. She pulled back, and I looked over to see what she was looking at. And it was Arthur's worried face.

"Where's Guinevere?" He asked.

Morgana looked from Arthur, to me, then back to Arthur before she shook her head. My heart wrenched before I realized that meant that Gwen didn't make it out. I wrapped an arm around Morgana and squeezed her gently. "Let's get you home, and cleaned up, okay?"

She nodded, and I led her over to a horse, looking over my shoulder at a disheartened Arthur.

As soon as I got Morgana cleaned up, she, Arthur, Merlin and I walked into the council chamber, where Uther was anxiously waiting for her arrival.

He stood up as soon as he saw her. "It's such a relief to see you safe. I couldn't bear the thought of anyone harming you," he said, putting his hands on her face.

"The bandits still have Gwen!" She said.

"I believe they were Mercian," Arthur spoke up. "We've received reports that Hengist has crossed the border."

"Hengist?" Uther asked incredulously.

"You must send a rescue party," Morgana instantly said.

"If Hengist is holding her, it would take a small army to rescue your maid," Uther told her.

I felt anger build up inside me. I walked over so that I was standing next to Morgana in front of Uther. "We can't just abandon her!" I protested.

Uther looked from Morgana to me. "How many men would you have me sacrifice to save a servant?"

"As many as it takes!" I said, crossing my arms, which I know wasn't very ladylike.

Morgana nodded. "Gwen gave herself up so that I might escape. I owe her my life."

Uther nodded, turning away from us. "She did so willingly, and she will be honoured for it."

"I don't want her honoured, I want her rescued!" Morgana said, grabbing Uther by the arm. She looked over to me, then back to Uther as she spokes next, "She is more than just our maid. She's our friend."

"A servant is of no value to these bandits. I fear she's dead already," Uther said, and I had to resist slapping Uther across the face.

"No! We cannot just give up hope!" I practically shouted.

Morgana turned to Arthur. "Arthur? I'm begging you. You have to do something!"

Arthur looked from Uther to me, to Morgana. "My father's right. I'm afraid there's nothing we can do."

"How can you say that?!" Morgana shrieked. "How can you live with yourselves?!" She looked around at the people of the court. "All of you!" Then she stormed out, and I followed her.

"Morgana!" I called out after her.

The court was dismissed shortly after Morgana and I left, and she stormed right to Arthur's chambers. I quickly followed behind her.

She burst the door open. "How can you be so heartless?! Gwen is the most kind, loyal person that you would ever meet, and she has been more than a friend to all of us! And you would leave her at the mercy of those animals!"

"Morgana..." Arthur said, trying to get her attention. I looked him over and saw that he was dressed in his chainmail. Then I looked down to what he was actually doing, and I saw that he's packing stuff. Clothes? Food? Wait, he was...

"Have you no shame? Do you think of no one but yourself?" Morgana kept going.

"Uhh, Morgana..." I tried this time.

She ignored me. "I knew you were many things, Arthur Pendragon, but I didn't know you were a gutless coward!"

Arthur finally got her to stop. "Morgana! Perhaps if you would stop shouting at me for one second, you would notice that I am packing."

It seemed to finally hit Morgana, and she looked down. "You're going after Gwen," She deduced.

Arthur rolled his eyes at her and went over to his closet. "Of course I'm going after her. What do you take me for? I couldn't disagree with Father in public." He grabbed his stuff, and made his way to the door.

"Arthur?" Morgana's voice stopped him. "Bring her home."

Arthur nodded at her, then to me, and was out the door. "Don't worry, I'm gonna go with them."

"But Lizzie," Morgana started, and I put a hand up to stop her.

"But nothing. I let you convince me not to go with you before, and looked what happened. Besides, do you really think that just Arthur and Merlin can save Gwen?" I asked.

Morgana winced, and she pulled me into a hug. "Just promise me you'll be okay?"

I nodded against her shoulder. "I'll be fine, I promise." I pulled back, and quickly ran after Arthur. I literally had just caught up to him when he said, "If you're coming, hurry and change. It would be difficult for you to run around in a dress."

I smiled at him and ran all the way to my chambers. I changed into a shirt and trousers, packed some extra clothes, grabbed my sword, and ran outside to join Arthur and Merlin.

Arthur, Merlin, and I made it all the way to the square, and we hid behind a cart. We all peeked our heads out and saw the guards that were patrolling.

Arthur turned to Merlin and whispered, "I'll fetch the horses, you distract the guards."

"Wha... how do I do that?" He asked, spluttering.

Arthur shrugged. "I don't know. Do I have to think of everything?" He asked and got up to go get the horses.

Merlin looked over to me, and I put my hands up as if to say, 'Don't look at me, I have no idea what I'm doing'.

Merlin rolled his eyes at me, and I smacked him on the arm. He tried not to cry out. Whoa, either I was stronger than I thought, or Merlin was weaker than I thought.

He looked all around, and his eyes landed on some barrels. I watched as his eyes flashed gold, and the barrels rolled towards the guards.

The guards moved over to it, unsure of what it was. Merlin incantated another spell, and the guards cried out in surprise as the spell stood the barrel upright. Merlin said another spell, and it was clear that something went wrong because a whole ton of barrels started rolling towards the guards, and way too fast. The guards had no time to react, and the barrels crashed into them, sailing them backwards onto the ground and unconscious.

Merlin and I stood up properly, and Arthur came back. He looked from Merlin, to the guards, and back to Merlin. "What did you do? I said distract them, not knock them out!"

Merlin just looked at Arthur in disbelief. "There's just no pleasing you sometimes."

I rolled my eyes at them. "Okay, we can discuss what makes everyone happy later, right now we have to go look for Gwen."

They both nodded, and we each got on a horse before we left for the woods. We kept walking, and walking, and walking. The sun had even risen, but we hadn't had the chance to take a break. I tried asking Arthur a couple times, but he kept saying "in ten minutes" like an annoyed child who didn't want to go home.

I had taken a nap the day before because I was way too worried about Morgana and thought that a nap would take my mind off of it, so I was good at first. But I had just began to start nodding off as I heard a crash behind me, and I turned around on my horse to see what had happened. Merlin, the sleepy idiot, fell off of his horse.

"What are you doing, Merlin?" Arthur asked him as I stopped Merlin's horse from running off by grabbing its reigns.

"I must've fallen asleep. Ugh, I'm exhausted," He groaned, setting his head on the ground. "I can barely keep my eyes open."

Arthur opened up his canteen and threw some water on Merlin's face. Merlin opened his eyes, looked up at Arthur, and in a sarcastic tone, said, "Thank you. I feel so much better."

"Guinevere's life is at stake. We cannot afford to waste a second," Arthur said, and started walking away.

Merlin groaned on the ground, and I looked down at the raven haired boy. "Are you okay?" I asked him.

"As okay as I'll ever be," He said, and he got up. I handed him his horse's reign, and he got back on.

Maybe half an hour later, I finally managed to convince Arthur that we needed sleep or we weren't going to be of much help to get Gwen back. He reluctantly complied. I immediately slipped off my horse, grabbed a blanket, and plunged into sleep.

I don't know how much later, but I was awoken by Merlin's and Arthur's voices. Man, will these men ever let me sleep?

"What's happening? How long were we sleeping?" I asked, rubbing my eyes.

"Apparently, long enough," Merlin said, and he turned to Arthur. "Did you get some rest?"

Arthur shook his head. "Couldn't sleep."

"You know, I've never seen you like this. About anyone, really," I said, and it was true. I'd supposedly known him his whole life.

"Same here," Merlin added.

"What are you two talking about?" Arthur asked, his back turned to us.

"Gwen. You really care about her, don't you?" Merlin asked.

Arthur turned around to face us, a stern look on his face. "What I care about is not wasting any more time talking. Let's get moving."

Merlin and I looked over at each other, and we rolled our eyes. Arthur's controlling attitude was seriously getting on my nerves. Now I sort of regretted coming. At least back home I could have slept more and no one would have complained.
