Hitoshi stood nervously adjusting his capture weapon as he eyed the yakuza compound in front of them. Normally he'd complain about being up so early, but today he could live with it. He stood off to the side in a small group with Aizawa, Todoroki, and Katsuki. While the rest of the heroes and police, led by Nighteye, stormed the building their group's job would be to get to Eri and Izuku. Thankfully Izuku had managed to slip them a quick message that morning saying that he'd wait for them in Eri's room. Their small group would be heading straight there to get them out. After that they were supposed to let the other heroes handle the rest. Hitoshi was willing to bet that wouldn't happen.
"You ready for this Eyebags?" Katsuki asked as he glanced over at Hitoshi.
"Would it kill you to use our hero names since we're on an actual mission?" Hitoshi asked, raising an eyebrow. Katsuki's smirk was all the answer that Hitoshi got. He sighed. "So we go in before everyone else right?" He asked.
Katsuki nodded. "We're going in the back entrance. That way we can slip in while those bastards are distracted with everyone else." Katsuki cracked his knuckles. "Then we go get Deku so I can finally kick his ass for what he did."
Hitoshi nodded. "Don't forget we're getting the kid too. We're all worried about Midoriya, but stay focused."
Katsuki huffed. "Yeah I fucking know. Worry about yourself and Icyhot."
"Alright we're going in. Let's move you three." Aizawa said as he motioned at them to follow.
Hitoshi did his best to stay calm as they stealthily made their way around the building. They spent a precious few minutes trying to locate the entrance. Unfortunately Izuku hadn't been able to give them exact information on where it was because he hadn't seen it himself. The little girl, Eri, had been the one to give him the information. Apparently she'd managed to slip out of the compound several times over the years.
"It's here." Todoroki called quietly to them, pointing at a patch of the ground that seemed slightly out of place.
Aizawa came over and started feeling around the edges of the patch before he pulled away the panel that covered the entrance they were looking for. "Good job Shoto. Remember to stick with me. If we somehow get separated your top priority is to find each other, got it?" Aizawa gave them all a stern glare to make sure they were paying attention.
"We hear you loud and clear Eraser. Let's just fucking get down there. We need all the time we can get." Katsuki said. Hitoshi couldn't see his face at the moment but he could hear the eyeroll in Katsuki's words.
Aizawa nodded and began climbing down the ladder; the others followed and Hitoshi brought up the rear. All of them had made sure to memorize the map of the compound once Izuku had sent it to them. They'd also spent a good amount of time last night memorizing the quickest path to Eri's room from where they would be entering. Aizawa briefly paused near the bottom of the ladder before jumping and throwing out his capture weapon. Hitoshi figured he was taking down whatever yakuza were milling around the room. When he finally got off the ladder himself his assumption was proved correct. He watched as Aizawa finished tying up the now unconscious yakuza members. Thankfully the route from here to the room wasn't long; that was likely why it had been used as an escape route before. He saw Aizawa send the other heroes the signal to start the raid; the four of them waited silently as they listened for the sounds of the raid starting overhead. It didn't take long for the whole facility to shake briefly and for them to know things had started. The four of them took off together without a word between them. It was time to get Izuku back.
Izuku did his best to reign his nerves in as he casually walked through the halls. It wasn't unusual for him to visit Eri in the morning but Izuku felt that the early hour made things suspicious. He forced himself to not go immediately to her room. He grabbed a quick breakfast and made sure to grab something small for Eri as well. He thankfully only ran into a couple people, none of them high in the chain of command, on his way to Eri's room. To his immense relief there was no guard posted at her door, perhaps due to the early hour, and he quickly slipped inside. Eri perked up as he entered. "Are they here?" She asked quietly.
"They're probably outside now." Izuku nodded as he walked over and handed her the muffin he'd grabbed for her. He quickly pulled out his phone and shot Katsuki a quick text saying where he and Eri would be. "We'll wait for my friends here ok?"
Eri nodded while she ate. "Ok."
Izuku sat with her in her bed simply comforting her for a while until something shook the entire complex. Eri clung to him tighter. Izuku figured that was either the heroes or Rikiya. Izuku was willing to bet it was the latter. Izuku took a deep breath. It wouldn't be long till Overhaul came for Eri now that they knew the heroes were here; he suspected that he'd want to cut his losses and leave with only the things he'd need to rebuild. Izuku mentally prepared himself. It was likely that he'd have to stall him while his friends made their way to them. Izuku had a sinking feeling in his gut though. He wasn't sure he could stall Overhaul with words alone. Izuku unconsciously stuck a hand in his pocket and fingered the lighter that was there. He could do this. He had to.
It didn't take long for the door to open again. Overhaul's eyes widened slightly in surprise but he quickly schooled his expression. "Deku. I wasn't expecting you to be here." He said evenly.
Izuku spotted Chronostasis standing outside the room and glancing around nervously. Izuku took a deep breath to collect himself before speaking. It was go time. "When the commotion started up I thought it would be good to make sure Eri was protected. I was close when things started but I didn't want to move her because I figured you'd be coming for her." Izuku explained. He silently celebrated the confidence that he'd managed to put into the explanation.
Overhaul seemed to mill over his explanation quickly. "I see. Well it's time to get her out of here now. Let's go." Overhaul looked at him expectantly.
Izuku swallowed hoping that his nerves weren't obvious. "Is it best to move her right now? We don't know where the intruders are or if they even know she's here. What if they manage to intercept us leaving?" Izuku tried. He just needed to stall.
Overhaul's eyes narrowed. "Our priority is to get her out of harm's way. If any heroes come after us they'll be taken care of accordingly. Now let's go." His right hand twitched. From the way Eri tensed up at his side Izuku knew this was a threat.
All he had to do was stall. He's sure that they're almost here. Izuku took a deep breath and locked eyes with Overhaul. He poured as much confidence into his words as he could. "No. She'll not be going with you."
Overhaul's hand twitched again. "You're fighting for the losing side Deku. The league is doomed to fail." He slowly pulled the glove off his hand.
Izuku stood up, putting himself between Overhaul and Eri. "Wrong. I have no loyalty to the league. They kidnapped me and took me away from my friends." Izuku frowned. "My family." Izuku pulled out the collapsable staff he'd managed to snatch from one of the armories a couple days ago. He extended it and dropped into a fighting stance. It wasn't his staff but it would have to do. "I'm no villain." Izuku proclaimed. "I'm a hero."
"Then you'll die just like the rest of them." Overhaul said menacingly.
That was all the warning that Izuku got before the floor practically exploded. Izuku quickly used his staff to vault away from the spikes Overhaul had created on the floor; taking Eri with him. Izuku landed in one of the few spots left that wasn't covered in spikes. The entire room had been destroyed and Izuku was glad for the larger area he had to work with now. "Eri stay here ok? I'll handle this." Eri looked up at him fearfully but nodded anyway. Izuku pulled the lighter from his pocket and quickly took the flame under his control. Overhaul launched another wave at him that he once again vaulted over. He eyed the wreckage and found what he was looking for. He did his best to dart around Overhaul. He was fast Izuku would give him that and his quirk was incredibly strong, but Izuku knew he didn't have to win. He only needed to stall till backup arrived.
"Are you going to keep running, hero?" Overhaul taunted as Izuku landed once more; this time behind him.
"I just needed to do a couple things first." Izuku replied.
Overhaul turned to face him. "You're an annoying little pest that I intend to snuff out quickly."
Izuku shrugged. "I get it from Kacchan." He smirked. "But thankfully I don't need to do that anymore."
Overhaul went to slam a hand down on the ground again before he pulled it back in pain. He looked down to see wild, green flames where his hand was. He glanced around the room and finally noticed all the small fires Izuku had made. Izuku pulled the fire to himself and wrapped it around his arms and staff. He silently hoped the staff could handle the heat for a short period of time. "Thanks for having so much flammable stuff around Overhaul." He sent the fire out to surround Overhaul. He knew they'd be here soon. Only a little longer he was sure. Overhaul became completely hidden behind the wall of fire. Izuku felt sweat drip down his brow. He'd never used his quirk to this extent before and was starting to feel the strain from it.
He was so focused on keeping his quirk up that he barely registered Eri's call of, "Look out Mr. Deku!"
Before he could properly react he felt everything slow. His mind immediately reminded him that he was an idiot because he'd been so focused on Overhaul that he'd forgotten about Chronostasis. The flames he'd been controlling slowly lost their green tint and began to die down without anything sustaining them. He felt his legs give out and he slowly fell to his knees.
Overhaul looked at him furiously while Eri looked on in fear with tears in her eyes. Overhaul slowly walked over to him and placed a hand on his chest. Izuku looked up at him and gave him a defiant look. "You've failed. Goodbye, hero."
Izuku didn't give him the satisfaction of looking afraid. Inside he was terrified as his brain frantically tried to grasp the fact that he was about to die. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes, waiting. Instead of feeling the pain of being torn apart though he felt intense heat brush against his face and heard a pained cry from Overhaul. The hand against his chest disappeared and he quickly opened his eyes and stumbled to his feet.
"Izuku!" Izuku barely managed to register Todoroki's voice before he was crushed in a hug. He returned it even in his state of confusion.
"T-todoroki? You guys made it." Izuku began to tear up. "I-i'm so glad you guys made it."
Todoroki released him and gave him a small smile. "Of course. Shall we?" Todoroki asked as he gestured to the resumed fight.
Izuku smiled slightly as the sight of Katsuki flying around as he yelled, "No one gets to kill that fucking idiot except me!"
Both Shinsou and Aizawa were tying up a now unconscious Chronostasis. He wiped at his eyes and gave Todoroki a larger smile. "Let's do this."
Todoroki thankfully produced new fire for Izuku to take control of. It felt, nice. The two jumped into the fray. It felt so good to be working with his friends again; it was so easy to fall into a rhythm with them. They even managed to work around Izuku's new quirk despite never having seen him use it before. Izuku had to admit the panic on Overhaul's face was satisfying. Izuku took occasional glances to the sidelines where Eri sat watching them. She seemed to be enraptured by the sight of them. The fear from before was completely gone and replaced with wonder. Finally the four of them managed to back Overhaul into a corner. He looked around frantically trying to figure out an escape route.
This was it; they had him. Then the roof exploded.
