DISCLAIMER: I do not own Merlin! I only own my OC, Elizabeth Malinor!
Enjoy!
I poked my head in between Merlin's and Arthur's arms, peering at the map that Arthur held in his hands.
"The ransom was supposed to be delivered to the Veil of Denaria," Arthur started. "If they're holding Gwen anywhere, it has to be there. Which means, it'd save a day's riding if we cut through the tunnels of Andor."
Merlin instantly grew suspicious at the look on Arthur's face, and to be honest, I was too. "Oh, no. I know that face, all too well, Arthur Pendragon," I said.
"I do too. We're not going to like this, are we?" Merlin asked, he and continued when Arthur didn't answer. "What's in the tunnels?"
"They're..." Arthur started, and finally finished when I gave him a look, "Infested with Wilddeoren."
"And what exactly are Wilddeoren?" I asked him.
Arthur hesitated, "Well, they're like giant..." He stopped when she saw the worried look on Merlin's face and the terrified look on mine. "Baby rats."
"Baby rats? They don't sound so bad," Merlin said, looking over to me, and I nodded in agreement.
Arthur avoided our gaze as he said, "They feast on human flesh."
Merlin's expression immediately changed. "Maybe we should go over the mountains," He said, looking over in the mountains direction.
I put a hand up. "I'd like to second that motion."
Arthur ignored us as he slapped the map into Merlin's stomach, then he walked over to some bushes. Merlin and I exchanged glances, but reluctantly followed him. "Er...what are you doing?" Merlin asked him.
"Wilddeoren are completely blind, they hunt by sense of smell," Arthur explained as he examined the bushes. "Gaya berries will put them off the scent. So, if we smear ourselves with them, perhaps we can pass through the tunnels undetected."
To further express this, Arthur took the berries off of the bushes, broke them, and stareds rubbing them on his face. Merlin looked reluctant, but he started to smear some berries on his face too.
I had a bad feeling about these berries, and just as I was about to say so, Merlin made a face as if he had just eaten something disgusting, "Oh! Oh, these stink! Oh, they're really bad."
I went over to the berries, picked one off, broke it, and smelled it. The foul odor immediately invaded my nose, and I choked out a breath. "Ugh, there is no way I am putting this on my face!"
"Perhaps you'd prefer to be eaten alive," Arthur said, continuing to smear his own face.
"Pass me some more, will you?" Merlin asked, and he reached over to get the berries. Arthur picked some more off, and instead of handing them to Merlin, he smeared it all over his face, and I couldn't help but laugh at the look on the warlock's face.
I looked from the berries on the bush, to the berries in my hand, and I groaned. I plucked some more off of the bush, and started spreading them along my cheeks, wincing at the smell.
"Ugh, I'm gonna need a serious bath after this..."
We eventually went into the tunnels (Merlin and Arthur had to like, drag me in...they were probably seriously regretting letting me come with them) and we were pretty far in, and we hadn't run into any Wilddeoren yet. I was starting to believe that there weren't any actually in the tunnels.
Arthur was in the front, leading us by the torchlight. I was in the middle, and Merlin was in the back, with another torch. I had asked for one, but they both agreed "a woman shouldn't be holding a fire".
What bullshit.
"Ah!" Merlin said, a scared expression on his face. "I just stood on something."
"That was my foot," Arthur said, quickly dismissing it.
"Oh, sorry," Merlin said, and we kept walking. "How much further is it?"
Arthur was about to answer when we heard a noise. It was a loud squeal, and it made the hairs on my neck stick up. Arthur quickly dropped his torch, grabbed Merlin's and dropped his to the ground too, quickly extinguishing the flames with his feet. "Shh! Wilddeoren coming this way."
Arthur whipped his sword out, and I did too, just in case. Arthur quickly grabbed Merlin's arm, and Merlin grabbed mine, and all three of us hid behind some rocks.
There were two of them, and they were so hideous!
"Whatever happens, keep completely still," Arthur instructed.
One of them squealed, this high pitched sound, and I had to fight the urge to cover my ears. The same one started approaching us, and my heart was beating like crazy inside my chest. It went up to Merlin, and started sniffing his face. I had to try and keep my laugh in at the look on Merlin's face. It left snot all over his face, and I had to look away. That was disgusting.
The Wilddeoren backed off when it realized that there was "nothing there", and after sniffing the air one more time, it left, along with the second one.
Almost simultaneously, we all breathed out sighs of relief. We waited a bit more, before getting up and quickly leaving the cave. Once we made it out to the other side, I instantly started looking for a lake, a stream, anything, to get this disgusting smell off of me. Arthur found one, and I nearly sprinted to it. I quickly dipped my hands into the water, and started rubbing my face. Arthur and Merlin looked at me strangely. "I have never felt so gross in my life," was all I said as I continued to scrub my face.
They both just looked to each other with a shrug, and then started cleaning their own faces.
I was almost finished when Arthur let one crucial detail drop. "Gaya berries worked. Huh."
My hands literally froze on my cheeks. I turned my head to face him. "You mean you didn't know if they were gonna work?" I asked in disbelief.
Arthur shook his head, standing up. "Not for sure."
I stood up quickly. "What the hell, Arthur? You can't just do that!"
"She's right," Merlin added, standing up too. "Now you tell us?! 'Oh! Oh, what's that Wilddeoren eating? It's all right. It's just Merlin.'" Merlin said, and the stupid idiot Arthur just grinned. "You trying to get us all killed?"
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have risked your lives like that," Arthur apologized.
"Well," Merlin started. "They do say love makes you do strange things."
"What are you talking about?" Arthur asked.
I knew exactly what he was talking about. "Oh Arthur, how stupid can you get?"
"Why can't you just admit your feelings for Gwen?" Merlin asked.
When Arthur scoffed, trying to brush it off, Merlin kept going. "It's so obvious. A blind man could see it." Arthur's just shaking his head, walking away from the two of us. "Is it really that hard to admit you like her? Just say it."
"I can't!" Arthur burst out. "How can I admit that I think about her all the time? Or that...I care about her more than anyone?" Arthur asked, and Merlin and I exchanged glances. "How can I admit that...I don't know what I'll do if any harm comes to her?"
I walked closer to him. "Well, why can't you? It's really easy, you know."
Arthur rolled his eyes at me. "No it isn't, Elizabeth, because nothing can ever happen between us! To admit my feelings knowing that...hurts too much."
"Who's to say nothing can happen?" Merlin asked.
"My father won't let me rescue a servant," Arthur started. "Do you honestly believe he'd let me marry one?"
My eyes widened. "You want to marry Gwen?"
"No!" Arthur quickly said. "No...I...I don't know...It's all talk, and that's all it can ever be."
"You know, when you're King, you have the ability to change that," Merlin said.
Arthur shook his head, looking down at this hands. "I can't expect Guinevere to wait for me."
I rolled my eyes at him and walked closer so that I was standing next to him. I put my hand on his shoulder. "Trust me, if she feels what about you what you do her, she'll wait for you."
"We don't even know if she's still alive," Arthur said.
Merlin instantly shook his head. "No, she is. We will find her."
Arthur nodded, but I couldn't tell if it was genuine, and started walking. "Come on. We've got a long trek ahead," He turned around and walked over to his manservant. "Oh, and Merlin...if you dare tell anyone about this, I promise I will make your life a living hell."
"You mean, more than you already do?" Merlin asked sarcastically.
"Yeah," Arthur said, and he turned to me. "Elizabeth, I can't threaten you, but I'm asking you as a friend."
I scratched my chin, pretending to think about it. "Well, I can make no promises, but I will try."
Arthur rolled his eyes at me. "I guess that's all I can get from you, isn't it?"
I shrugged. "Pretty much. Now, let's get going, Lover Boy."
Arthur winced. "Don't call me that," He said, and he started walking away again.
I looked behind me at Merlin, who just shrugged, and then smiled. "We could talk about your feelings while you walk," He suggested to Arthur.
"Shut up, Merlin," Arthur called behind him.
"Are you sure? I'm a really good listener!" I called after him, and Merlin and I started following him again.
We eventually found the place (after hours of me complaining, and finally I somehow managed to convince Arthur to carry me on his back), and we all stood in the woods, looking around.
"We'll have to scale the walls," Arthur deduced.
"Maybe there's another way in," Merlin suggested.
"Why don't you go an knock on the front gate? I'm sure if you ask nicely, they'll hand Guinevere over to you," Arthur said to him.
I rolled my eyes at the boys. "Easy there, Sarcastic," I said to Arthur. "We're wasting time."
Once we got over to the walls, we started climbing. Even though I didn't really like PE, I excelled in rock climbing. I was beside Arthur as I climbed, and I was even getting ahead of him!
Arthur looked down to Merlin, who was trailing behind. "You really are completely useless, aren't you, Merlin?"
"It's...harder than it looks," Merlin groaned.
Arthur just rolled his eyes at Merlin and climbed maybe another foot up the wall. "Oh, now you're just showing off," Merlin complained. I looked down at Merlin, shrugged, and started climbing again.
Arthur and Merlin quickly took care of the bandits, and they started changing into their clothes. I walked a little forward, and turned around so that I wouldn't see them changing. I mean, I totally would have watched them, but it "wouldn't be proper". Does that mean I'd never see any shirtless men?
Something dawned on me. I called back to Arthur and Merlin. "Why don't I get a cool disguise?"
"You don't need one. Just stay behind Merlin and I and you'll be kept hidden," Arthur said.
I growled. Women in this century were so down graded. Well, you know what? I wasn't a woman from this century, so I'd do as I very well damn please.
I quickly glanced behind me to see if Merlin or Arthur were watching, and quickly ran into the next corridor. I stopped when I saw a bandit at the end of the corridor, and hid against a wall. I looked around for a weapon big enough to knock someone out,and found a fairly large rock. I picked it up, and started doing this really cool thing that I was taught when I was maybe eight years old. My uncle was a voice actor, and he taught me to do all these cool things with my voice, and my parents would be so angry at my uncle because I didn't stop doing the skill until I was eleven or twelve.
I threw my voice out so it sounded like someone was coming from the other end of the corridor, and the guard was instantly on his feet. "Who's there?" He barked out.
I waited a bit before doing the same sound, though it was towards the corridor on the other side of me. So when the guard ran over to see what the noise was, I gripped the rock tightly in my hand before I struck it against the back of the guy's head.
It did the trick; he was out cold. The pants I was wearing looked close enough to the bandits, and strangely, he appeared to be my size. Why Heingst had someone so small, I would never know.
Since I already had the pants, I pulled off his shirt (I thanked God forever that he was wearing an undershirt-he was definitely not one of the guys I wanna saw shirtless), his vest, his mask, and his boots. I quickly slipped them on to me, and dragged his heavy body to a dark corner. When I was done, I ran all the way back to Merlin and Arthur, who looked a little startled at the sight of me. They must have thought that I was another bandit, so I pulled the mask off of my face. Their faces went from startled to confused in less than three seconds.
"Elizabeth? Where did you go? And why are you wearing that?" Arthur asked.
"Oh, I did a little shopping," I said, a grin on my face. "Now let's go, we're wasting time," I said, and quickly started walking before Merlin or Arthur could say anything.
We managed to find the room just as Hengist cried out, "Release the Wilddeoren!"
Just as the wilddeoren came out, Arthur jumped into the cage and pulled off his mask, freeing Gwen and whoever was tied up with her.
Arthur looked like he had this one, so I let my eyes wander around before they fell on Hengist, who was aiming a crossbow at the cage. I grabbed Merlin's arm. "Merlin, look!" I said, and pointed towards him.
Merlin's eyes widened, and he quickly muttered, "Ic bebĂede fealle." After he incantated the spell, the chandelier above Hengist came crashing down. Unfortunately, he dodged it before it could hit him.
"Merlin! Don't sit there cowering, let's go! Elizabeth, come on!" Arthur shouted, and Merlin and I quickly went over the cage wall as Hengist came through the door, shouting, "After them!"
When Merlin and I got there, I actually got a better look at who was with Guinevere. The face was familiar, but the name didn't strike me. He had tanned skin, sort of long hair that was a bit curled at the end. Oh well, I'd ask it later. "Take Guinevere! I'll hold them off," Curly said.
"No!" Gwen immediately protested.
"Guinevere, we have to go!" Arthur insisted, grabbing her hand and taking her down the tunnel.
I was about to go after them when I heard a huge crashing sound, and I turned around to see that Merlin had said a spell to trap Hengist with the Wilddeoren.
"Open the gate! Ah!" Hengist screeched.
"I see you're still up to your old tricks, Merlin," Curly said. This man knew Merlin? And about his magic?
"It's probably best you don't tell anyone about that," Merlin said a little nervously.
For some stupid reason, I was still wearing my mask, so I pulled it off and threw it to the ground. Curly gasped. "Elizabeth?"
"What is your name?" I asked finally, and the man actually looked a little confused.
"What-" He started, but Merlin grabbed each of our arms. "We don't have the time, I'll explain everything to the both of you later!"
Merlin pushed us forward, and we started running down the tunnel. We caught up with Arthur and Gwen but we had to stop at the end of the tunnel because there were bars at the end, and it was locked.
Arthur tried breaking the chain as the man said, "Good to see you three." Three? He knew me, too? "Where are your knights?" He asked Arthur.
"It's just us. Got to keep moving," Arthur said, getting the chain broken.
"Thank you, Arthur. We owe you our lives," The man said. We made our way outside, and we just walked for a bit before we decided to stop for the night.
Arthur and the man started a fire, and Merlin, Gwen, and I gathered firewood. Once we were done, I plopped myself down right to Curly. I was going to find out how I knew this man and how he knew me if it killed me.
"I'm surprised you would undertake such a rescue mission...with just the three of you," Curly said.
"My father would not risk the lives of his knights for a servant," Arthur answered.
"And yet you disobeyed him and came here anyway," Curly concluded.
Arthur stared at his hands as he said, "Truth is, I only came because Morgana and Elizabeth begged me."
Gwen looked a little uncomfortable, because she says, "I think I will get some rest."
Arthur nodded, looking up. "We should all get some rest."
"I'll stand guard for a while," Curly volunteered.
"I will too. I'm not tired, and I need to know how Curly here," I said, nodding my head to the man. "knows me."
Arthur and Gwen nodded, and they both made sure to go to separate spots to rest.
"I'll just...sit here, then," Merlin said.
"What do you mean, 'Curly'?" The man asked me.
I looked at him. "Well, your hair is a little curly," I said, touching it.
He laughed but quickly grew serious. "How do you not know me?"
"I...had an accident," I said. "Maybe a year ago. I lost bits and pieces of my memory, and it looks like you were one of them."
"Oh," he said. "Well, to help, I saved yours and Merlin's life, and then you two insisted on helping me become a Knight of Camelot."
"Oh," I said. That sounds like something I'd do. I shook my head slightly. "I'm sorry, I still don't know your name."
He chuckled slightly before extending his hand towards me. "Lancelot."
I took his hand and shook it. "Lancelot. It is very nice to meet you again."
We both laughed, before we fell silent. Merlin got up from where he was sitting and sat on the other side of Lancelot.
It was quiet for a bit before Lancelot spoke up. "Is it true that Arthur came to rescue Gwen because 'Morgana and Lizzie," He looked at me when he said my name. "'Begged him'?"
Merlin looked down at his hands, and I looked up at the sky, the both of us avoiding Lancelot's gaze.
"He has feelings for her, doesn't he?" Lancelot concluded.
"What about you? Do you have feelings for Gwen?" Merlin asked.
"My feelings do not matter," Lancelot said, and my heart slightly broke. "I will not come between them. Tell Gwen...tell Gwen that she has changed me forever, but some things cannot be."
That was probably the most noble thing I'd ever seen in my life. "But Lancelot, where will you go?" I asked him.
He shrugged. "Anywhere." He stood up. "It was good seeing you two again."
"Likewise, Lancelot," Merlin said, and we both stood up.
Merlin and Lancelot shook hands, but I gave Lancelot a big hug. "I'll be seeing you, got it, Curly? This isn't goodbye." I think I remembered Lancelot being a very good friend of Merlin and I, though the memory was vague.
"We'll see," Lancelot said. "Goodbye, you two." And with that, he left.
I sat back down. "That was probably the sweetest thing I've ever seen in my life," I told Merlin.
A couple hours later, I eventually fell asleep. I woke up when Merlin was putting the fire out. Arthur was no where in sight, and it looked like Guinevere was just waking up too.
She put her arms around her knees and hugged them. "Where's Lancelot?" She asked, a smile on his face. Merlin and I did the same thing that we did when Lancelot asked us about Arthur's feeling for Gwen, and she asked, "Where is he?"
"He's gone," Merlin finally said.
Gwen's face dropped. "No," She said. shaking her head.
I stood up and went over to sit next to Guinevere. I put an arm around her. "I'm sorry. But he said that some things can't be. He wanted you to know that you've changed him forever," I said.
Arthur came back just as I finished talking. "We have a long walk ahead of us."
Poor Merlin had to walk while Gwen rode his horse, I rode my own, and Arthur rode his. I tried to talk him into switching for a bit, but he wouldn't have any of it.
We eventually made our way home, and the first thing that Arthur, Gwen, and I did was go find Morgana. I hadn't seen her in, God, less than a day, and I missed her like crazy.
Morgana was standing by one of the windows with an extremely worried expression on her face. Arthur and I stood in front of Gwen so that it'd be a surprise. "Morgana," I said, getting her attention. She looked over, and Arthur finished, "There's someone here to see you."
We both stepped out of the way, and Gwen came out, running into Morgana's waiting arms. They hugged each other tightly as she said, "Gwen! I thought I'd never see you again."
I smiled, and when Morgana and Gwen opened their arms to bring me into the hug, I went over to them, and wrapped one arm around each of them. "Of course she came back. I mean, I was on the journey, wasn't I?"
TBC...
And that is the end! Sorry it is so late! But you know what the next episode is?
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. THIS WAS SERIOUSLY MY FAVOURITE TWO EPISODES OF SEASON 2.
I have to ask: If there was a song that best described Elizabeth, which would it be? I'm thinking of Do It Like a Dude by Jessie J, mainly because Lizzie insists on doing a man's job and doesn't take shit from anybody LOL. Anyways, let me know what you think!
REVIEW! FOLLOW! FAVOURITE! THANKS!
THE ADVENTURES OF ELIZABETH MALINOR CONTINUE...
"The potion is prepared," Jonas says to his troll mistress as he hands her the potion. She quickly downs it.
"The Lady Catrina is not all that she seems to be," Gaius says as Catrina takes her hood off.
"Already he falls for me. I can see it in his eyes," The troll says-who is pretending to be Lady Catrina as she kisses Uther Pendragon, and the grey boils on her hand are revealed as she puts her hand on his neck.
"How could he resist such beauty?" She asks as she kisses Uther again.
The troll farts in her sleep in the stables deep underneath the castle as Merlin and Elizabeth cover their noses in disgust.
"You're going to tell Uther that his new lady friend is a troll?" Merlin asks Gaius.
"That's exactly what I'm going to do," Gaius responds.
Merlin pushes past people as he runs in the corridor, Elizabeth trying not to trip over her skirts as she followed him.
"I certainly don't want to be in your place," Elizabeth tells Gaius.
The inside of a cave collapses on Merlin.
Tune in next time for the next episode of I've Got the Magic in Me!
