"Luke let's go back... LUKE"
"Stop screaming or dad will hear us"
"Good"
"C'mon we can still see the fire"
Luke turned around, pointing at the feeble light between the bushes, behind his little brother
"See? I told you we will not go too far. I just want to see if it's there"
"I knew it! You didn't care about camping, you just care about your stupid monsters..." replied Brian, kicking what he thought was a pebble, in that dark he was not sure.
"The book says that Dean, Sam and Castiel fought a werewolf in this forest. And Louis told me that the last time he came here camping he saw the hole in the tree were the amgel blade pinned him before they finished him"
"Dad's gonna be mad"
"Dad won't even notice we were gone. We will be back before he is with the marshmallows"
"Next time I tell you to bring something please remember to..."
Bill walked around the fire, dumping the marshmallows on the camping chair.
"Luke are you listening? Brain you better not be playing with that PSP again, were here to enjoy nature. Boys?"
Bill looked inside the tent. Then again around the fire. He scrutinised the dark wall of trees around the camp.
"Luke!" He called again. He turned around following the sound of breaking twigs, but what he wasn't Luke.
Castiel stared at the man in front of him. He had chosen what he thought would be an unalarming vessel, a man in his thirties, a faithful man, but apparently he was wrong. Upon seeing him the man in front of him grabbed a branch, raising his voice
"Who the hell are you?"
"See? I told you it was true!" Luke probed the hole in the tree bark, reaching up on his toes
"Let's go back!"
Luke didn't answer, looking around with a big smile on his face
"It's amazing... they're heroes!"
"They're fake"
"No they're not!"
"I'm going back!" Brain declared, turning on his heels, ready to march himself back to the camp.
Castiel tilted his head
"I am an angel of the lord"
"What?"
"Are you the one who called my name?"
Castiel had teleported to the last point his name was said, then had seen the fire and had followed the light.
"What? I asked who are you? Luke! Brian! Where are you?"
The crackling of the flames were the only sound heard for a few seconds before the man raised his voice again
"Luke! Brian! Where are you? What did you do to them?"
Castiel opened his mouth. And the scream echoed
The human was fast, and Castiel vessel was clearly not dressed for the woods, the trench coat kept getting caught, so he arrived at the scene a few second after, but he didn't believe it would have mattered.
On the ground, his chest slashed open, there was one boy, not more than fifteen. The blood swabs still oozing out, Castiel decided he must've died nit soon befor they arrived. Standing beside him Castiel recognized a Wendigo. The creature was holding another boy by his neck.
"Dad..." the boy's whisper was the last thing they heard, before the monster climbed up a tree, disappearing with the boy.
The man screamed and screamed the boys names, kneeling beside the one on the ground and cradling his head.
"Call 911... call..."
"He's dead" Castiel replied, moving next to them.
"No... no..."
Castiel knew that he was not supposed to meddle. The boy was probably in heaven now, and the other one would probably follow him, hopefully sooner than later.
The man was whimpering silently, looking around while muttering his children names. Castiel looked away. He was already disobey orders...
So one more infraction was nit going to make thing worse he thought.
Kneeling beside the man he placed one hand on his shoulder and one on the boy's chest
"I can help him"
"No"
Castiel turned his face to Zachariah's voice. His vessel was standing a few step behind him.
"You were forbidden to come here. You disappoint me"
Castiel rose up
"I... needed to know."
"I understand" the old man replied "let's go back to heaven"
Castiel head turned back to the man still on the ground
"I can help him"
"No. You mustn't"
"What?"
Zachariah walked closer, slowly shaking his head
"It is a pity... they were young. But it must go this way"
"Why?"
Zachariah scratched his chin
"You see, there were some.. leaks. And because of... them, the Winchester, our kind has not being treated with as much respect as before. That is why all the believers have to die. So that what happened there won't be replicated here."
Castiel stepped back
"This was... planned? That is why you didn't want us to come down here? Why?"
"Well, Wendigo don't really roam this forests... we gave him a little push. As for why. Heaven has a reputation to protect, but not everyone seemed to understand the importance of that. Now go, unfortunately the father was not supposed to see it... he's collater damage"
Something silver blinked in Zachariah's hand.
Castiel heard the order. But he didn't obey. And with a rustle of feathers he and the man were gone.
