AN: Let's go part two!
Disclaimer: I do not own Merlin in any way, shape, or form! I do own Elizabeth Malinor and any other characters I make up!
Enjoy!
Kilgharrah had taken Merlin and I to an abandoned cliff-y cave-y place. Merlin had already passed out by the time we got there, so I draped my cloak over him as a blanket while Kilgharrah used his dragon breath as a sort of healing spell.
Kilgharrah watched as I gently brushed Merlin's hair back from his forehead, fretting over his chills and the fact that he was also sweating bullets.
"I must confess, I didn't see your destiny taking this turn," Kilgharrah revealed as I looked over at him. "You didn't succumb to your sister's influence."
"My loyalty has always been to Merlin as it always will be," I said. I looked over at the sleeping warlock. "I'd do anything to keep him and Camelot safe."
My face turned into one of concern as I saw Merlin scrunch his face up in pain. "Why didn't the spell I used to help him work?" I asked Kilgharrah.
"Well, what spell did you use?" He asked.
I repeated the spell to him, and he just laughed in response. "My dear girl, that is not a healing spell. It is a merging spell."
"Merging?" I repeated, wrinkling my nose.
Kilgharrah nodded. "The spell you casted upon the young warlock has intertwined your bodies. It is very weak, however, as your magic is weak, but there shall be times when he feels your pain, when you feel his, when you feel his happiness, and he feels yours."
"Whoa," Was all I could say. "Where did I pick up that spell?"
Kilgharrah shrugged slightly. "You may think that I have the answer to everything, young dimension traveler, but I don't."
"Morgause seems to have this idea in her mind that I'm going to be this great healer," I told him. "But I couldn't even get a spell to help my friend right. How am I supposed to save lives?"
"Elizabeth, you cannot honestly tell me that you believe that powerful witches and warlocks are just born, can you?" Kilgharrah asked.
I looked down at my hands. "Well, that's what I've always assumed. I mean, Merlin once said that he could move things from the spot they were in before he could even talk."
"That was simple magic," Kilgharrah said. "To do the kind of spells that he does now took him practice. Hone his magic, practice his skills. If you properly train, you can be whatever kind of witch you want to be. Your determination to help people will definitely help you if you want to be a healer."
As I thought over his words, Merlin's eyes carefully opened and he smiled gently when he saw me sitting next to him. He turned his head over to where Kilgharrah sat and smiled again in relief. "I didn't think you'd answer my call."
"Merlin, I could not resist a Dragonlord, even if I wanted to," Kilgharrah said.
"Dragonlord?" I repeated, furrowing my eyebrows in confusion as I looked over at Merlin. "What's a Dragonlord?"
Merlin gently tapped my hand. "I'll explain it all to you later," He said, before turning back to Kilgharrah. "We're grateful. Thank you."
Merlin tried getting up, but I grabbed his shoulders and gently pushed him down. "Lie still," I instructed.
"What hurts?" He groaned as he laid back on my backpack that I had fashioned into a pillow for him.
"The Serket's poison is powerful," Kilgharrah explained. "I have given you an enchantment that will help you heal, but it will take time."
Merlin lulled back to sleep eventually, and I just sat beside him patiently as I let him rest.
"Morgana will be wondering where I am," I said to no one in particular as I tapped my hands on my knees.
"Is she aware that you have come back to rescue Merlin?" Kilgharrah asked.
I gave him a look. "Yes, that's why I'm sneaking around her," I answered. "I don't know, I guess I'll just blame getting lost, it's not too unbelievable for someone like me."
"This is a very dangerous game you are playing, child," Kilgharrah pointed out.
I simply nodded. "I am aware."
"And yet you play it anyways?" He asked. "When your sisters can find out at any moment your intent to betray them?"
"I'm not the one that's doing the betraying, not really," I said. "Morgana and Morgause have plans for Camelot, and as long as I am in the position to find out secrets and use them for good, then I shall. I know that I have to be very careful when I do, but my allegiance has always been and will always be with Camelot. I refuse to succumb to that prophecy that you told Merlin about."
Kilgharrah raised his eyebrows in confusion. "Merlin told you of that?"
"Of course he did," I answered. "Just as I told him that Morgana, Morgause and I were sisters. There are no secrets between the two of us."
"No secrets?" Kilgharrah asked, raising a single eyebrow. "I think there is a very big secret that you are keeping from him."
I rolled my eyes. "Yeah, but that one is crazy. The only people who truly believe that I'm from another dimension is you and Emma, because you two obviously teamed up and sent me here. Imagine me telling him that, he'll think I'm crazy."
"Merlin took a great risk in telling you of his magic," Kilgharrah pointed out. "It is only fair that you return the favour."
"Okay, first of all, Merlin didn't tell me-I saw him do it as he saved everyone from that crazy witch mother trying to take revenge for her son," I said. "And second of all, dimension jumping sounds even more ridiculous than magic."
We couldn't talk about it further as Merlin suddenly lifted his head. He looked over at the two of us. "You shouldn't have let me sleep."
"I had no choice, young warlock," Kilgharrah explained to him. "The venom was too strong, even for your great powers."
"We don't have time," Merlin told him as he struggled to stand up. I knew I couldn't fight him on it, so I just put his hand on my shoulder as I helped him stand up. "We need to get back to Camelot. The Kingdom is in danger, and it's my fault."
"Not just yours," I said, trying to lift his spirits. If I had just grown a pair and told Merlin as soon as I got back we wouldn't be in this predicament. Darn my thoughts of the future!
"I should've trusted you," Merlin said to the Dragon. "I should've never trusted Morgana."
"You did what you felt was right, and that shows great courage," Kilgharrah said. "But trust is a double edged sword."
"I thought..." Merlin trailed off. "Because she has magic, I thought that we were the same."
"In some ways, you are," Kilgharrah said.
"No," Merlin shot down. "I will never be like her."
"Same goes for me," I threw in.
"You have learnt an important lesson, Merlin. Your determination to see goodness in people will be your undoing," Kilgharrah told him. "But I fear that your futures are now joined forever. She is the darkness to your light, the hatred to your love."
"What of me?" I asked, genuinely curious.
"Your beliefs and faith in those that you care about can be a very dangerous thing," He said. "But it is those beliefs and faith that shape who you are, Elizabeth. You cannot escape it, no more than you can escape what your destiny shall be."
I looked over at Merlin, and we both knew what to do. For now, we had to push all of this aside. We had a Kingdom to save, starting with getting rid of Uther's mandrake.
"We need to get back to Camelot," Merlin said to Kilgharrah.
"You are not yet fully recovered yet, Merlin," Kilgharrah told him. "Even if you get Elizabeth's help, it's still more than three days' walk."
Merlin looked over at me with a knowing smirk, and I instantly knew his plan.
"We have no intention of walking," He said.
Merlin and I both howled with laughter and awe as we rode on Kilgharrah. Merlin was practically sitting on his head, and I was behind Merlin, my arms tightly wrapped around his waist.
"Never, in my life, had I ever imagined I'd be riding a dragon!" I screamed as the wind blew my hair out of it's tie.
"Well, savour it, because I doubt we can make it happen again!" Merlin shouted over the winds.
Which felt like way too soon, Kilgharrah came to a stop just a little outside of the city walls. Merlin slipped down off of Kilgharrah first, and then I followed, jumping right into his waiting arms.
"This is as far as I go," Kilgharrah said as I turned around to face him, Merlin's arms still wrapped around me.
"Thank you," Merlin said to him. "I won't forget this."
"Be careful, you two," Kilgharrah warned. "The Great Battle for Camelot has begun. You two must be strong, for Arthur's destiny and the future of Albion lie in your hands."
And with that, Kilgharrah took off. I turned my head to look at Merlin, and he must have realized that he still had his arms around me, because he quickly let go and took a rather large step back from me. "Sorry," He mumbled.
"No, it's okay," I said. "Listen, you go to Gaius and get rid of the mandrake. That'll probably stop the enchantment. I have to get back to my room and make up an excuse to Morgana as to why I was gone so long."
We both started running to the castle, but went in different directions when we got there, wishing each other luck as we ran. Who really needed it more, though?
I burst into my chambers, where Morgana was sitting at my table worriedly. Her head snapped up as she saw me walk in, and she ran right over to me. She wrapped her arms tightly around me as she hugged me. "Sister, I've been so worried! What took you so long?"
I hugged her back. "It's kind of complicated," I said as we pulled back. Morgana wrapped one arm around me as she led me over to one of the chairs. I sat down in one, and she sat down at the one next to it. "I had just gotten there when something happened to my horse and I got thrown off. Little bugger took off as I collapsed into a lake. I must have hit my head on a rock or something because I was knocked out. When I woke up, it was starting to get dark, and my map had gotten ruined as it was in my pocket when I fell into the water. I was lost, but I managed to find my way back."
"Where's your injury?" Morgana asked as she touched my head gently. "You said you hit your head."
Oh, crap! Wait, I got it! "I healed it when I woke up with a simple spell Morgause taught me. It wasn't too bad, though. You, however, look awful," I said as I pointed at her bloodshot eyes, the dark bags that circled them.
"That's because I was so worried about you, I couldn't sleep," Morgana said with a yawn.
"Well, I'm back and I'm fine, so you should get to bed, okay?" I said as I stood her up. I wrapped my arm around her as I led her to my door.
"Are you sure you're all right?" Morgana asked as she stood in the doorway.
"Yes, Morgana, I'm fine. You need to get some sleep, or you won't be fine. Good night, Sister," I said to her as she smiled.
"Good night, Sister," She said back. She gave me a quick kiss on the cheek, and then she started making her way to her chambers.
I shut my door behind her, and breathed a sigh of relief as I made my way over to my big bed. I flopped right on top of it as I smiled to myself. "I can't believe she bought that."
I had breakfast with Morgana in her chambers the next morning. I had already dressed myself before I came over, so I just sat down and enjoyed my meal as Morgana, Gwen, and I made small talk. I wasn't really in the mood to talk, but like Morgana, I had to keep up appearance. At one point I had gone to use the bathroom (chamber pots were seriously gross. Even after more than four years of using them I was still disgusted) and when I came back, Morgana was staring out the window.
"May I clear away the dishes, my Lady?" Gwen asked Morgana as I walked back in. Morgana didn't answer, so Gwen tried again. Morgana looked over at her with a polite smile. "I was thinking about what to wear," She said, though I knew it was a lie. She made a small jerk with her head towards the window, and I knew she wanted to show me something. I took a peek outside and saw Merlin walking with Arthur, as if nothing was wrong.
Morgana took my hand and gave it a squeeze with worry. She looked over at me and gave me a look that said, 'I'll take care of it'. She looked over at Gwen as she smiled and said, "I must dress."
Morgana let go of my hand and walked over to her dressing screen as Gwen gave me a funny look. Gwen totally suspected that something was wrong, but Gwen being Gwen wouldn't say anything. I gave a slight shrug as I looked back out the window at Merlin.
We were in trouble.
Later that afternoon, Camelot's patrol returned with the news that Cenred's army was marching upon Camelot. Arthur called a council meeting to discuss what to do next.
"I estimate they will reach the city within two days," Sir Leon told Arthur.
"Under whose banner do they march?" Arthur asked.
"Cendred's, sire," Leon answered. "We knew he was amassing an army-"
"How many men?" Arthur cut him off.
"Twenty thousand, maybe more," Leon told him.
Merlin and I exchanged worried glances, but kept it brief as I was standing next to Morgana and the last thing we needed was her on our case.
"I fear that news of the King's illness has spread beyond our borders," Gaius revealed. "Cenred sees an opportunity."
"Then we must find a way to appease him," Leon suggested.
"Not what my father would do," Arthur dismissed. "He wouldn't bow to our enemies."
"Forgive me, sire," Gaius started tenatively. "We are outnumbered two to one."
"What concessions will Cenred insist one?" Arthur asked as he turned around. "What territories will he demand?"
"We do not have to give him anything but it could buy us valuable time," Gaius said.
"It shows weakness, Gaius," Arthur insisted.
"They are all wasting their time," Morgana whispered to me, the words barely above a breath.
"I know, but we can't exactly tell them that," I whispered back to her in the same tone.
"There's only one course of action open to us," Arthur began as he went over to sit down in the chair at the head of the table. "We must prepare the city for siege."
"Are you sure that's wise?" Leon asked him.
"The castle is our strongest weapon," Arthur explained. "No army has ever taken Camelot."
"But what about the people in the outlying villages?" Leon asked.
"Give them refuge within the city walls," Arthur ordered.
"And what of their houses, their livelihoods?" Leon continued. "Cenred will destroy everything in his path."
"But they will have their lives," Arthur pointed out. "Go. Ready the army."
The next night, Morgana and I slipped out of the castle to meet with Morgause again. Morgana told me how Merlin destroyed the mandrake root, and she wanted to tell Morgause about it. I, of course, took this as another opportunity to try and get more information.
We were waiting for a while until Morgause showed up on her horse.
"Where have you been?" Morgana asked as Morgause came over to us.
"What's wrong, sister?" Morgause asked.
"It's Merlin," I spat with fake hatred. "He's alive and has returned to Camelot."
"He has thwarted us," Morgana continued. "He destroyed the mandrake root. Your enchantment's been broken."
"Do not worry. The root has already done its work, and Cenred's army are less than a day from the city," Morgause reassured us.
"Then it is time?" Morgana asked.
"Are you ready?" Morgause responded, looking at the two of us with hope on her face. "Cenred's army are mighty, but they cannot bring down the city on their own. You two must also play your parts."
Morgana and I exchanged quick glances before smiling evilly. Ah, make evil smiles. "Tell us what we must do," Morgana confirmed to Morgause.
Morgause reached from behind her to reveal a long staff that looked like the Whomping Willow from Harry Potter on the top. "It is carved from the Rowan tree that grows at the very heart of the Isle of the Blessed. Only the High Priestesses and their Bloodguard have ever set eyes on it."
Quick, make up some excuse as to why you didn't even want to look at it! "Our magic is still weak. We don't have the power to hold such a powerful instrument," I fabricated and luckily Morgana was nodding her head in agreement.
"Do not worry," Morgause said. "The staff will guide you. It carries its own power." Morgause handed it to us, and Morgana and I both took it in our hands. I swear, I could feel the evil emitting off of it.
"However, Morgana's powers are slightly stronger than yours, Eliza," Morgause said as she looked over at me. Yeah, during our year together, Morgause had taken to calling me "Eliza", as she wanted a nickname for me that was all her own, that only she could use. Yeah, it was super weird, but I never said anything out of pure fear and, well, bewilderment. "So for this circumstance I suggest that we let Morgana do this."
"As long as it helps Cenred's army in the best way I have no qualms about it," I quickly said, happy that I didn't have to use the staff against Camelot myself. I let go of the staff quickly.
"We will not fail you," Morgana promised Morgause, taking my hand and giving it a squeeze, which I responded with a squeeze back.
"I know," Morgause said simply, and she turned around to get back to her horse.
When we got back to the castle later that night, I quietly picked the lock to Gaius's chambers. I opened the door as gently as I could because I knew that Gaius slept out in the room and sighed in relief when the old man didn't stir as I walked in. I tip toed over to Merlin's room and opened the door as quietly as I could possibly manage. I shut the door behind me and went over to Merlin's side.
I gently shook him awake, and he nearly jumped out of his bed because of how surprised he was. "Lizzie? What's going on?" He asked groggily as he sat up.
"I just got back from meeting with Morgause," I whispered as Merlin used his magic to light the candle that was on his bedside table. "She said that Cenred's army was less than a day away from Camelot."
"What else did she say?" He asked as he made room for me to sit on his bed too.
"She gave Morgana and I a staff. She said that it was carved from a Rowan tree that grew in the Isle of the Blessed," I told him.
"The Isle of the Blessed?" Merlin repeated and I nodded in response. "Then it must hold very powerful magic."
"I guess," I agreed.
"How do you use it?" Merlin pressed.
"Morgana or I are to go down during the middle of all of the fighting to the burial vaults in the castle," I explained. "Then, either of us are to dive it deep into the ground."
"You're not going to do it, are you?" Merlin asked tentatively.
That earned him a firm smack on the arm. "Of course not, you idiot. I would have made up some excuse. Either way, Morgause has requested Morgana to do it as her magic is stronger than mine is."
"Then during the battle tomorrow we must keep our eye on Morgana," He concluded.
I nodded, and my stomach tightened as I got ready to tell Merlin what the staff did. "Merlin, the staff...there's a reason we're to use it in the burial vaults of Camelot."
"Why?" Merlin asked, furrowing his eyebrows, much to my slight pleasure, like I did.
I gulped as I said, "It's supposed to raise an army of the dead."
Merlin's face dropped as I continued my explanation. "Morgause has said herself that Cenred's army isn't enough to bring down Camelot. Fighting and trying to kill things that are already dead?" I shook my head. "Camelot will surely fall to Cenred, if not through his men, then through the dead."
Merlin took a deep breath as he said, "Then we have to keep an extra eye on Morgana tomorrow."
"Actually Merlin, I think we should let her raise the army," I told him.
He gave me a look of confusion. "And why? What happened to 'Camelot will surely fall?'"
"I'm not saying that I want Camelot to fall," I said, slapping him upside the head. "I'm saying that if we stop her from doing something that nobody but me is supposed to know about, she'll surely know that I was the one who told you and there goes our advantage. Our advantage certainly helped tonight, didn't it?" I asked, and Merlin had to nod in agreement, because, well, I was right. It did. "Now that we know that she's going to do it, we can stop her quickly before any real damage can be done. I'm not sure what I'll be able to do, but I'll try to stall her as long as I possibly can until I can find you to stop her. If she sees me working too hard to stop her she'll question me, but she's already aware that you know about us."
Merlin nodded in agreement. "As if tomorrow wasn't already going to be a mess."
I fussed as I wrapped my hair into a bun at the top of my head. The absolute last thing I needed was for my hair to get tangled in my face as I was fighting, or worse, chopped off by a sword.
I took one look in the mirror to try and assess if I was siege-battle ready. My hair, of course, was tied up. I was wearing a Camelot-red shirt that fell just past my knees made with strong material so that it didn't rip easily. It was also very air so I could move with ease. I felt slightly guilty over the fact that I was wearing a Camelot colour when I was betraying the Kingdom, in a way.
I shrugged off the feeling as I returned my attention back to my clothes. I was wearing thick black tights that would help protect me from hits with a sword, but also keep my legs warm from the bitter cold that had started forming when night had fallen.
My thick black boots certainly kept my piggies warm and allowed me access to run around as freely and as easily as I could. My belt was tied around my waist sturdily, and my sword was nestled neatly in its holder.
For my first siege, I didn't look too bad.
Night had fallen and a quick glance out my window confirmed Cenred's army being here to take down Camelot. I felt a shiver run down my spine. The only real thing I was counting was that Morgause had ordered me not to be harmed, so when I fought, I fought easily.
There was a knock on my door and in walked Morgana, grinning evilly. "Are you ready, Sister?"
"As ready as I'll ever be," I answered as I looked away from the window. "You remember what we have to do?" I asked as I walked over to her.
Morgana nodded as she took my hands. "We will stay inside the castle to take care of the wounded. We will only go outside if necessary. Then, you will provide a distraction so that I may slip down to the tombs and do what Morgause asked of us."
I nodded in agreement with the plan, though it made me sick to my stomach to do so. "Are we ready, then?"
Morgana smirked. "Oh, we're ready."
I winced as another fireball hit the walls of the castle. I was trying my best not to look out the window, but damn it was hard when a great big ball of fire was coming right at you.
The battle was in full swing and already there were a lot of people injured in the makeshift hospital that we had to make. Gaius, Morgana, Gwen, and I certainly all had our hands full as we tackled on every new patient that we could. Some were easy to take care of, such as wrap a small cut with a bandage, or slather on some pain medicine on their burn and send them back off into battle. But others, and there were a lot more people in that other, were so injured that they had to be brought in on stretchers. Long burns running in the sides of their body, deep stabs in the chest, sharp slashes in the arm or leg. We could probably make up a whole army with the amount of blood being lost.
One person, Sir Joseph, was hit with a rather large fireball. Poor man could only make grunts and whimpers of pain as he laid on the makeshift bed that we had. There were a lot of deep burns on his chest and legs, but thankfully most of his face was spared, including his eyes, nose, and mouth. I put on some burn ointment as gently as I could on to his wounds, but whenever I touched him, it only seemed to make him worse.
"I am sorry," I apologized. "But I have to do this to make the pain go away," I tried explaining, wiping at his tears of pain that I was sure he was holding in for a long time. His eyes were firmly shut, and when I checked his pulse, it was getting weaker by the second.
I looked over at Gaius, but he was busy with another patient, so I was all on my own. I looked back over at Joseph, who was still awake. Most men would have passed out at this stage, but the poor soul was still holding on. I guess he was afraid that if he fell asleep, he might not wake up.
No man should have to suffer so much pain. What I had decided to do was very risky and very stupid, but what was the point of my great magic if I couldn't even do anything with it?
I dunked a cloth into cold water and placed it on Joseph's forehead, making it look like to everyone else that I was just trying to keep his body temperature down, but I barely moved my lips as I spelled, "Abysgian feorr arcehád angsumnes ge forlætan li slæpan." Which roughly translated into "take away his pain and let him sleep".
With the briefest flash of gold in my eyes, the man sighed deeply, before lulling his head to the side and falling into a deep sleep. I sighed in relief as I leaned my head on his chest, but quickly raised it when I remembered his wounds. I went back to dressing and cleaning his wounds. I only occurred to me then that I could've used a potion to put Joseph to sleep, not my magic,
Oh well. I still felt good.
As I was wrapping him up, there was a sudden sharp pain down the right side of my body, and I gasped in pain and surprise as I clutched at my right side with my left hand. The pain didn't last very long, but when I pushed up my sleeve, I saw skid marks that matched if one were to fall on the ground, tiny spots of blood oozing out.
What the hell? I wondered to myself as I brushed the blood away. I didn't fall over, I hadn't even stepped foot outside of the castle since the battle began.
And that was when Kilgharrah's words hit me again. "The spell you casted upon the young warlock has intertwined your bodies. It is very weak, however, as your magic is weak, but there shall be times when he feels your pain, when you feel his, when you feel his happiness, and he feels yours."
"Fantastic," I whispered to myself as I gritted my teeth. I wiped away the rest of the blood and went back to work. I just had to pray that Merlin could stand on his own two feet for once in his life. Who knows, maybe the next time I wouldn't feel the wound. Kilgharrah basically said that it wouldn't happen all of the time, just sometimes, and very weakly.
I felt a tap on my arm (my bad arm, by the way, and I had to cover my wince) and turned to see Morgana standing beside me. "I'm going to go get the staff. You distract Gaius, the man has been watching me all night."
I nodded and Morgana quickly slipped away. I went over to Gaius, who was tending to a patient, and whispered in his ear, "Morgana has gone to use the staff. I'm going to go find Merlin so we can stop her."
Gaius simply nodded, not wanting to give the secret away. I tapped Gaius's arm and made my way to the doors of the castle. I was running to get there, but skidded to a stop when I got to the doors. There were Knights and civilians still being brought in, and I was suddenly struck with fear at the thought of going outside.
I would have to fight. I mean, I'd fought in the past, like when we defended Ealdor from Kanen and his men, why should Cenred and his men be any different?
Because I was supposed to be a traitor. If I blew my cover, it could only end badly, and there went my ticket to information.
Well, I was only going to find Merlin, wasn't I? I could just find him and that was it.
I couldn't believe I spent more than two minutes standing there, debating with myself.
I shook off my fear as I ran out the door. I drew my sword and had it at the ready to fight back if I had to.
I grimaced at the bright light of the flames that were burning in the lower towns. I brushed it off as I began looking for Merlin. I had to find him, but he could be anywhere.
I was suddenly struck with a great idea. Merlin and Mordred could communicate with their minds, and Mordred spoke to me in my mind once, so why couldn't it work with Merlin?
Merlin? I tentatively called out in my mind, trying to seek his.
I was filled with joy when there was a response. Elizabeth?
Yes, it's me. You have to go to the burial vaults now. Morgana's gone down to use the staff. I'll stay here and protect Arthur, I said to him.
All right, He spoke back, and I ran to go find Arthur now.
I came face to face with one of Cendred's men who had somehow managed to get inside the citadel, who let out a battle cry and swung his sword right at my head.
I yelped in fear as I brought my sword up, blocking the hit. I used all the strength that I had and pushed his sword off of me. He didn't give me a chance to recover, and swung at my head once more.
This time, I ducked, and the sword went flying past where my head was. I shivered slightly at the thought of my head falling off, but brushed it away.
Thankfully, since the opponent was so much larger than me, I was in the perfect position to take a good hit if I acted quick.
"One well aimed blow!" Arthur's words said in my head as I thought back to when the Black Knight had challenged Sir Oswald.
Taking my chance, I reared my sword back as if I was drawing an arrow in a bow, and drove the sword deep into his stomach. I winced as the blade entered his body and went deep in and a bit of blood had covered my face, but it worked as the Knight gasped in pain. I looked up at him and blood was dribbling out of his mouth. I pulled my sword back out (wanting to crawl into a ball at the feeling and the sound of squishyness) and kicked him so that he fell over.
That took like a whole three minutes. Not bad, if I did say so myself.
As I was about to head back into battle, I was suddenly hit with the force of powerful magic. The feeling completely consumed my entire body and there was a ringing sound in my ears as I felt my body freeze.
Morgana's done it. She'd used the staff.
I shook off the feeling as I finally spotted Arthur. "Arthur!" I called out as I ran over to him.
His eyes practically bugged out of his head as he saw me run over. "Elizabeth? What the hell are you doing?"
My heart nearly stopped as I saw one of Cenred's men managed to get inside the citadel and was now approaching Arthur. I picked up my speed as I readied my sword.
"Protecting you," I answered as I pushed Arthur out of the way. I clashed swords with the man, before using the same ducking manuver I used last time and stabbing him in the gut.
"Well, thanks for that," Arthur said breathlessly as I turned around to face him. "But you should get inside the castle, it's not safe out here."
I was about to retort when I was suddenly left without words. There were three skeletons-moving skeletons-that had swords in their hands approaching Arthur from behind.
"Oh God," I muttered as I stiffened. I mean, I knew the staff raised an army of the dead, but skeletons? Real live (well not alive) skeletons?
I pointed behind Arthur. "Arthur, behind you!"
Arthur quickly turned around, and was dumbstruck as he watched the skeletons walk over to him. The closest one made a swing at Arthur who was so awestruck by it that it took him a second longer to react before he ducked out of the way. They both then engaged in a sword fight. Arthur managed to get it in the chest, but of course, since there were no flesh or organs or the fact that it was already dead, it didn't effect him. The skeleton just shrugged it off as he swung at Arthur again.
Arthur managed to fight it off, and he ran over to me. He grabbed my arm and began practically dragging me back towards the castle.
"Where's Merlin?" He muttered to himself as we got back inside to the main stairwell.
"I don't know," I answered. Though he was hopefully stopping Morgana by now.
He gently shoved me up the stairs. "You must get to the hospital and tell Gaius to seal it off."
"What?" I asked in disbelief.
"Just listen for once, okay, Elizabeth?!" Arthur asked. The sudden sound of boney footsteps stopped me from giving back a clever retort, alerting us to more skeletons being inside. He turned back and looked at me. "Please Elizabeth, just do it. Find Merlin, keep him safe."
I had to gently laugh to myself at the thought of Arthur thinking that Merlin needed my protection, but I just gave Arthur a firm nod as I ran up the steps to get to the hospital.
I walked in and immediately ran over to Gaius who was tending to Uther. I grabbed his arm gently and led him away from activity. "Gaius, Arthur said to seal off the hospital. We're getting attacked from within the castle."
"What do you mean?" Gaius asked.
"Merlin didn't tell you?" I asked, and Gaius shook his head. "Well, he probably didn't have the chance to, with all the prep for the siege going on." I dropped my voice to a whisper. "Morgause gave Morgana and I a staff. The staff is meant to summon an army of the dead, and it worked."
Gaius's face turned into one of horror, then gratefulness. "I am very glad that you know where your loyalties lie, Elizabeth. Thank you for helping Camelot."
I smiled and gave him a quick hug. "I sent Merlin to try and stop her as soon as she left to go get the staff, but he might have been too far away to get to her in time to stop her. Hopefully he's stopping her now." I groaned as I tugged what was remaining of my bun out of the tie, letting my natural hair fall into waves on to my shoulders. "I'm going to go find him."
I tapped Gaius's arm and was gone before he could protest.
I huffed as I ran down the stairs and squeezed past the many people who, for some reason, were down this far. I picked up my pace as fast as I could, nearly tripping over everything that came in my path.
I made my footsteps quieter as I got to the vaults. I faintly heard swords clashing when I got there and the sound got louder as I finally reached it. I grabbed the side of a tomb, stopping so that I could hide myself.
Merlin and Morgana were locked in a tight battle, which Morgana was obviously winning, having been trained in sword fighting a lot longer than Merlin had.
I had to intervene somehow. I had to. Like I'd let that bitch kill my closest friend.
What was sad about it all was that Morgana held the title of my closest friend until she had decided to betray Camelot, and everything that I believed in.
My heart began to speedily drop as I saw Morgana finally knock Merlin's sword out of his hand and was now openly taking strikes at where ever she could manage. Merlin, however, was practically an expert at ducking out of the way and evaded all of her hits.
Merlin tripped and fell to the side of a tomb, and I winced at the pain that had now formed in my leg. I clutched at it and kept my whimper in as I looked back at the ensuing battle.
Morgana raised her sword to deliver the final blow, and I looked up at the already crumbling ceiling. A spell that Merlin had taught me surfaced back to my mind, and the words were coming out of my mouth faster than I could even think. "Feoll bu brand!" I said and my eyes flashed gold. I prayed and prayed that I had put enough of my powers into the spell that it would work.
Luckily, it did, and the part of the ceiling that Morgana was standing underneath crumbled from the spell, and hard pieces of concrete rained on her. A rather large piece struck her head, and the blow was enough to send her into unconsciousness as she fell to the ground, unmoving.
I shook off the pain in my leg as I emerged from the tomb I was hiding behind. Merlin smiled in relief when he saw that it was just me. He pointed at the ceiling. "Did you do that?" He asked, impressiveness heavy in his tone.
I simply shrugged. "Wasn't much," I answered, then I remembered what was actually going on. I pulled out my own sword and tossed it to Merlin. "Destroy the thing, I have no idea what spell to use."
Merlin turned to the staff. As he said, "Snæde!" He sliced through the middle of the staff, destroying it. It had caused a tiny explosion as the top part fell to the ground.
I cheered in victory as I ran over to Merlin. I happily leaped into his arms as we shared in a victory hug. "You did it!" I screamed as I clutched at him tightly. I pulled back, and we both had ridiculously happy smiles on our faces.
"I did, didn't I?" He said.
"Well, obviously," I answered as I smacked him in the stomach. My eyes traveled over to Morgana. "You should get out of here. I'm gonna stay here until she wakes up."
"What if she asks what you're doing down here?" Merlin asked.
"I'll make up a lie," I said, dismissing the thought. "Please Merlin, I've been lying for more than a year. I've gotten good at it."
Merlin accepted my answer as he ran out of the vaults, and I ran over to Morgana. I dropped down next to her, and pushed away any rubble and pieces of rock away from her so that I could get to her face. I gently began shaking her arm. "Morgana. Morgana!"
It took a couple of tries, but she carefully opened her eyes. She blinked hard. "What happened?"
"I don't know!" I exclaimed. "All I know is that when I was up there, the skeletons had suddenly just crumbled and dropped to the ground, dead...again. Then I knew something was wrong, so I ran down here." I jerked my head over to the broken staff. "Somebody broke it, Morgana, who else was down here?"
"Merlin," She spat. "He was trying to stop me. I was fighting him, when out of nowhere, the ceiling above me broke and fell on top of me. That was the last thing that I remembered."
"It was probably from the pressure of all the people running over it," I offered, and she nodded slightly, closing her eyes. "Morgana, you must stay awake, you could have a concussion. Come, we must get you to Gaius."
"Can't you just treat me?" She asked. "I don't trust them. My head hurts really bad. Please, Sister?"
I groaned, realizing that I was in no position to argue. I nodded, and rested my hand on Morgana's forehead. I murmured the spell that I had used on Sir Joseph, minus the going to sleep part, and Morgana sighed in relief.
I gently picked her arm up and threw it over my shoulder. "Still, we must get you out of here before people question why we're down here."
Morgana slightly nodded. She was feeling a lot better thanks to the spell and was more able to support her own weight as we stood up. She had a slight limp, but we managed to start walking out of the vaults. I turned my head for the briefest second to look at the broken staff.
I couldn't believe that it worked.
I was now, officially, a double agent.
The following day, we were still recovering from the attempted siege, but Uther thought that it was necessary to call a council meeting. I stood by myself next to Uther, as Morgana would be coming in after Uther made his big speech. We had planned before hand our alibi. Morgana had gone down to the faults and stopped the enchantment, but she was slightly wounded in battle, and wouldn't have been okay if I hadn't gone down and found her, Morgana having telling me previously that that was where she was going.
"In my time, we've won many battles," Uther began once everyone was in the room. "But none so important as this. Every man, every woman and child has performed their heroic best, and I thank you, and I salute you all. Even before the battle we knew there was a traitor in our midst, one who was almost the undoing of us. However, we have to thank the one person who outwitted them, and who, almost singlehandedly, turned the battle."
Merlin's eyes flashed over to me in confusion. I knew the question in his eyes. "Uther knows about you or Morgana?"
A slight shake of my head answered his question, and at the same time, Uther answered his question, too. "The Lady Morgana!" He announced as Morgana "proudly" walked over to Uther, taking his outstretched hand. "For it was she who bravely entered the vault, found the magical vessel, and destroyed it."
Morgana broke into his speech. "However, I would not be standing here if it were not for one person," She announced loudly. She turned her head over her shoulder, and held out her hand towards me. "The Lady Elizabeth!"
The entire court burst into applause as my heart stopped. No. No. I hated recognition. Well, no, I liked it, but not if it wasn't mine. This was all Merlin, he should be standing up here with Uther and the entire court congratulating him.
But I couldn't say that. I took Morgana's outstretched hand, though the guilt nawed at my stomach as I stepped down to stand next to her. "For it was Elizabeth who had been so worried when I was nowhere to be found after I told her of my intentions and found me. She applied healing practices, and saved me from a possibly dangerous injury."
The court began clapping again as Morgana squeezed my hand and leaned over to whisper in my ear, "I couldn't take all of the credit, now could I, Sister?"
I merely smiled in response, though it was taking everything in me not to shout out the truth.
"We must be vigilant!" Uther decreed. "We must stand firm against the dark forces of magic and ensure that they never penetrate our walls again."
Yeah, too late for that, buddy.
Merlin and I exchanged worried glances because we both knew the same thing.
This wasn't going to be the last time Morgause and Morgana (and me, in a way) would try something, and we had to be on the ready for it.
This "double agent" stuff was going to be harder than I thought.
TBC...
I absolutely loved these last two episodes! They were honestly my favourite to write, so far.
We got some revelations, some realizations, some Merlizabeth moments, even some moments were Lizzie used her magic!
And that whole "merging" thing will definitely still come into play. It's going to be a fun thing to play around with.
Oh, and before I forget!
I have made a new Tumblr for my fanfictions. It's where you guys can ask questions (either to me or to any of my fanfiction characters, including Elizabeth), submit little edits that you make, and where I will be posting updates on things, such as why a certain update for another story is so late, what is happening with another update for another story, stuff like that. ALSO! I will possibly post little snippets of chapters as a sort of sneak peek to hold you guys over until the real update.
So, be sure to follow me on there for all that good stuff! The url is dreamonalinafanfiction . tumblr . com (just fix the paces) and will be also posted in my profile!
AND! I am currently planning a new Merlin fanfiction that will DEFINITELY be an Arthur/OC this time, no going around it. However, it will also be Merthur, in a way. The reason for that is that it is going to be a Female!Merlin! Yeah, I thought it might be a fun little concept to play around with. It's nothing definite for now, but I'm definitely thinking about it. Would it be something that you guys are interested in?
ANYWAYS THAT'S ENOUGH NEWS!

THE ADVENTURES OF ELIZABETH MALINOR CONTINUE...
"Boo!" the Goblin exclaimed.
Merlin and Elizabeth leaped forward with a blanket to try and catch the Goblin that had managed to turn itself into a small pixie like creature.
"It seems you have unleashed a Goblin," Gaius said.
In its pixie like form, the Goblin shot itself into Gaius's ear.
As Gaius, the Goblin licked a gold coin and relished in the feeling.
"That's not Gaius. He's been possessed by a Goblin," Merlin finished the last part weakly as he spoke to the King and the rest of the court.
Elizabeth buried her face into one hand, feeling secondhand embarrassment from Merlin.
Goblin-Gaius spat alcohol into the face of Sir Leon at the tavern.
"I'm going to the tavern!" Goblin-Gaius told Merlin and Elizabeth.
The two of them exchanged bewildered looks before looking back over at Goblin-Gaius. "But you never go to the tavern!" Merlin argued.
Goblin-Gaius arm wrestled with a man at the tavern.
Gwen and Morgana both let out uncontrolable farts at the court meeting, and once again, Elizabeth buried her face in her hands with secondhand embarrassment.
"Tell me you didn't think that was funny," Goblin-Gaius said to Merlin and Elizabeth as the pair waited for him to return to his chambers.
"It was a tad bit funny," Elizabeth whispered as she leaned over to speak in Merlin's ear. Merlin gave her a look of bewilderment. "Come on, did you see Morgana's face? Tell me she didn't deserve that one!"
"Your magic may be powerful, but I have an advantage," Goblin-Gaius said to Merlin.
"What's that?" the Warlock asked.
"I can hurt you two, whereas you two cannot hurt me without hurting Gaius," He revealed, and Merlin and Lizzie exchanged worried glances at the new piece of information.
