:)...If you guys have been looking at my profile, (Which I recommend because you can see what stories I'm working on and what chapters they are at,) You know that I have been working on a oneshot. Well, here it is!

Disclaimer, I don't own divergent or the lyric.

Here is a little thanksgiving treat, just because. So…

The Lunch Shift

TRIS POV

"Trissy!" Christina shrieks, twirling her car keys around her finger. "Get down here, you're gonna make us late again!"

I run around the apartment, grabbing the various things I need for work. My phone, a rubber band, and a sweater for when it gets cooler outside. It is the middle of October, after all. I grab my apron from off my bed and run down the stairs, snatching my water before I head out the door.

"Took you long enough!" Christina says as she puts the car in gear and backs out of the driveway. I sigh. "It's only eleven thirty-five, Chris. We literally live seven minutes away, relax."

She shakes her head, turning the radio on.

"Wanna hear your beating heart tonight," She sings as we pull into the parking lot. (Hehe, see what I did there? Only true Divergent fans will...) We get out, and she clicks the lock button.

We walk through the doors of The Pit, and I read the clock on the cash register. 11:44. I turn around, seeing Christina read the clock over my shoulder. As she walks away, I hear her mutter "Whatever." She ties her apron on and goes to check in with Tori, our manager.

I laugh, putting my hair in a messy bun, and then I put my apron on. I pass Tori on my way to the sink in the back. "Hey!" I say, smiling at her.

"Hi! How are you?"

"I'm good, other than feeling rushed." I glance at Christina and she pretends not to notice me. Tori laughs. "I think Zeke is coming in to surprise Shauna later, so don't say anything to her about work."

I grin. "Sounds good."

I wash my hands, clean some of the tables from customers who came for breakfast, and then I get ready for my lunch shift. The little 'ding!' noise on the door goes off, so I pull out my notepad and pen and go to get the customers' orders.

"Hi, there! Welcome to The Pit...What can I get started for you two?" I ask.

"Hello!" One of them responds. "Can I get a burger with grilled onion, lettuce, and tomato?" He says.

I nod. "Of course. Would you like fries with that sir?"

He thinks for a second. "Yes, please."

"And to drink?" I ask him. "I'll take a water, please."

"No problem." I look to the woman he came in with. "And for you, ma'am?"

"Um…" She says, her eyes scanning over our lunch menu. "Can I please have the same thing, but without the onions?"

"Sure! Will that be the fries and water as well?"

She smiles. "Yes, please."

"Great, will that be all for today?" I say, glancing at them. They nod. I look over my notepad.

"So that will be two burgers, one with grilled onion, one without, tomatoes and lettuce on both, two fries, and two glasses of water?" I say, looking at them. "Sounds right," The woman replies, smiling at me.

"Perfect, we'll have that out for you shortly."

"Thank you!" They both say.

I smile at them and go to give the order to George, the main cook, who also happens to be Tori's brother. The bell rings again. "Be right back," I say to George, heading back to the front. I seat the party of four, and upon their request to look at the menu for a few minutes, I walk back to the kitchen. George is just finishing my orders, and when he deems them ready I take them out to the customers. I set the burgers, fries, and two glasses of water down.

"All good so far?" I ask. They reply with 'yes,' and I respond with "Great, let me know if you need anything!"

I look at the clock - which reads 12:15 - and get back to work. The party of four I just seated seems to be ready to order, so I head back over to them.

"Welcome to The Pit...Are we ready to order, or maybe a couple more minutes?" I say. They look around at each other.

"I think we're ready," A girl of about my age says.

"Great," I reply. "What can I get started for you guys?"

A girl who looks a little bit older than me speaks up. "Hello, can I please have a caesar salad and iced tea?" I nod at her. "Of course. And for-" I ask the girl sitting on her right.

"It's Nita. I want a burger with nothing but the meat. Just put the meat on a plate and bring it out with lettuce." I want to say something to her but I think better of it, nodding instead. "Sure." I glance at the other two people. One, a boy with blonde hair and green eyes, smiles at me. "Burger with tomato lettuce and pickle. I'd also like a Pepsi please." I nod at him.

"And for you?" I ask the other girl, who looks just like him. "Can I please have the baked potato, with a caesar salad and a lemonade?" I nod at her, and she smiles.

"So that will be two caesar salads, baked potato, a burger with tomato, lettuce, and pickle, and a...meat patty...with lettuce?" I ask. They nod. I move down to the drinks. "...and an iced tea, Pepsi, and lemonade?" All of them nod but the girl named Nita.

"Uhm...excuse me, you forgot my drink?" I think back to her order. "I'm sorry, Nita. You never ordered a drink."

She huffs. "Yes, I did. Clearly, you weren't listening." I exhale, trying not to snap at her. Smiling sweetly, I ask, "What can I get you to drink?" She thinks for a moment.

"Lemon water." I nod. "So everything, plus another lemonade?"

She huffs again. "No! Lemon water." I inwardly sigh. Why do I always get the picky ones?

"I believe that is the same thang as a lemonade," I say, beginning to get irritated. She huffs, again! Drama queen much?

"Ugh! Fine! If you're gonna be rude, just give me regular water!"

Me?! I'm the one being rude? Yeah right.

"Great," I say. "Anything else?"

She smiles. "Yes. Make it snappy."

It took great strength - which I wasn't aware I had - to not roll my eyes at this lovely customer. As I begin to walk away, the bell on the door rings, and soon after I hear a shriek from the kitchen. I barely have enough time to see Zeke holding his car keys and looking very comfortable in his t-shirt, shorts, and tennis shoes before his enveloped in Shauna's hug. "Oh boy," I hear Christina say from behind me.

"Zekey!" She squeals. A huge grin spreads on his face and he hugs her back.

The bell rings again, but my back is to the door so I don't immediately know who it is.

I hear a gasp and Christina pulls me behind the counter. "Cute guy, twelve o'clock!"

This time, I don't withhold my eye-roll. "Duh, Chris. Of course you think that, you're dating him."

She gives an exasperated sigh. "No, silly. For you!"

"Chris, we went over this the other day. I need to focus on school and work. I'm not interested in dating right n-" She spins me around.

I'll say this...He is cute.

"Tell you what: I'll seat them, but you need to take their orders." She says to me.

"But I-" She cuts in. "Great-have-fun!" And walks away before I can do anything about it.

A FEW MINUTES LATER-

After I have served all the customers, who (not naming names) had some...interesting requests, Chris comes back over, smirking. "All yours, girl." I sigh. Oh well.

I put a smile on my face. "You guys ready?" Zeke, Uriah, and the mystery guy nod.

Uriah goes first. "The Dauntless burger, please." I nod at him.

"Uh, can I get the chicken caesar, with a root beer?" Zeke says. I nod at him as well.

I gather my thoughts, and turn to 'mystery man'. "And yourself...?"

"Tobias." He says. "Can I please-" Zeke interrupts him, not unlike Christina did.

"He'd like the same thing as Uri, but with your number instead of the root beer."

Tobias laughs nervously. "Ha-ha, Zeke." He scratches his neck. "A Dauntless burger and lemonade would be great, if you don't mind." I smile at him. "Of course."

I give the order to George, and he starts to cook. Christina pulls me into the back again. I groan.

"Is this gonna be a thing now?!" She squeals. "I heard him! Your number?! You HAVE to!"

"But...Well..." She squeals again. "I know you're thinking about it!"

I sigh. "I would, but-" She gasps. I put a hand up. "I would, but what if he doesn't actually want it? That's enough embarrassment for like, a lifetime!" She grabs a napkin and a pen.

"I like risky Tris. Just do this! He seems so sweet," I grin.

"Fineee, but you need to leave me alone about it."

"Deal!" She says. I write my number down and put the napkin under his plate.

[533-869

If you want…

-Tris]

I take a deep breath and bring out their food, then walk back to the cash register to wait.

ABOUT 20 MINUTES LATER (Everyone has finished and the boys are getting ready to go)-

I stand behind the counter trying to discreetly watch Tobias. He finishes his burger and lifts the plate to stack it with the Uriah's.

Good thing I put my number faced down...I hope he notices.

He grabs the napkin to wipe his hands, and I suddenly look at Christina. "Pretend we're having a conversation!" She quietly gasps.

"No, look!" I glance back over to Tobias and he looks confused for a moment but grins. My heart actually skips a beat.

He glances at me quickly and puts the napkin in his pocket.

We say our goodbyes and leave since Marlene is closing tonight. As Christina and I get into her car, I can't help but smile. She glances at me and we pull out of the parking lot. "That was so adorable! When's the wedding?" I internally facepalm. "Don't get ahead of yourself."

We walk through our apartment door, and I get ready to go to bed because I have classes tomorrow morning. We had some dinner at the cafe, and it's now about 7:30.

Christina screeches so loud that I don't know how the windows are still intact.

"Tris-I-swear-to-god-if-you-don't-get-your-butt-over-here-right-now!" She says in one breath.

I almost trip over myself as I bolt to the living room. "TRIS HE TEXTED YOU!" She basically screams as I come in.

[Uh, hey...are you free tomorrow night? - T]

(Insert squeal here) YAY! What did you guys think? Before I end this I just want to say that the number I put in here is not mine, nor anyone else that I know. With that being said, please do not call it, it is for the purpose of this story only.

Anyway, thank you so much for reading, and I really hope you enjoyed it! This was a lot longer than I planned, like a lot, but I'm really happy with the outcome! (excuse my mistakes...and the excessive squealing...)

Reviews are greatly appreciated, and I want to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving!
