He's standing outside of the precinct waiting for the right moment to go and finally see her. He had finally talked himself into going and seeing her after being undercover for so long. He had missed so much being undercover and he knows she thinks he left without a word but he had no other choice. But there was one reason he was under. A person. Ed Tucker gave Elliot an ultimatum. Undercover or Lose your job and pension. "Family is everything." Elliot once told her but he had left her behind, and he considered her HIS family. Now she has her own family she's always wanted and he's on the outside getting the shit end of the stick because of Ed fucking Tucker. "Let's do this El," he mumbles to himself as he starts walking to the front door of the precinct. While getting into the elevator he's having these flashbacks.
All those longing stares, late nights on stakeouts, all that time they spent together for 12 years. It was like he had two wives but the one he was actually in love with wasn't the wife he had at home.
It is her. Olivia Benson.
For those twelve years, he didn't know when he wasn't in love with her.
He loved her enough to leave her behind and come back when he could. All of this was partially his fault for leaving but most of it was that pricks, Ed Tucker. He hadn't been able to get a hold of him and about 6 months ago he was able to get pulled out from being undercover. He was pulled because they were finally able to close a drug ring that also led to children being exploited. The first thing he did when he got back was to spend time with his kids. Eli already being 13 understood where his father was all those years after he 'retired' or that's what everyone thought had happened. His other kids are doing good for themselves. He hasn't seen them all since he's been back for only 6 months but he does talk to Dickie, who prefers to be called Richard, and Kathleen because she's still here in New York helping troubled kids in their high schools.
Ding! he hears the elevator stop on her floor. Tucker had told him Dodds awarded her Captain of SVU, something else she had accomplished while he was away.
He is so happy to know that she has a kid! He knew she would figure it out while he was under. I wonder if that little boy is that dumb ass she was with. Tucker never did say. Hurry up and go see her before she leaves you, idiot. You've been waiting 10 years to see her and she will be just as beautiful if not more beautiful like she's always been.
"Oh dear lord," he gasps quietly.
She aged like fine wine and I hope she doesn't turn around until I get to her office.
He walks in without even looking at the officer at the front desk. Fin sees him first but from being so shocked he doesn't have the time to warn Olivia about the one man that broke her heart 10 years ago.
He's finally going to do it. He's going to see the love of his life after not seeing, talking, touching the little they did even at that.
She's getting all her things ready to go and she feels a warm feeling behind her.
Maybe I'm just going crazy because of all the shit that's happening right now.
She turns around and is in total shock. She thinks she's going crazy.
She finally says something but not what she thought she was going to say, "Elliot?"
"Hey Liv," he gives the smallest smile he can.
She walks up toward him and slaps him across the face.
"Liv can you please allow me to explain?" He's getting impatient especially after her slapping him.
"No El you should've done that when you left," Her eyes are already watering feeling uncomfortable from the sudden appearance of her partner.
The partner that just feels wrong to think about. I LOVE him. No, you don't he left you 10 years ago.
"Olivia really?" he's trying to reason with her with little words.
"Yes, Elliot. I cannot talk to you here at least. Let's go to the bar down the street," she explains.
"Why not go talk in your apartment?" he tries to see if she'll take the bait.
I really want to see her son.
He doesn't know why but the satisfaction to prove he was right about her son being Cassidys was something he's been thinking about since Tucker told him.
"You know what Elliot? No, we are either going to talk and have a drink or I won't be talking to you."
"Oh really? Are you hiding something? It's like you were talking to a child when you were talking to me."
"Who told you I have a child?"
"You just did. Can I meet them?"
Olivia is now conflicted.
"You know what El? Another time. Noah doesn't need that and neither do I. I need an explanation, and I mean a thorough explanation."
Now Elliot feels at ease knowing that if this talk goes well she'll want to see him again and then that could lead to whatever it will lead to and him hoping they finally get to be together like they should've 10 years ago when he was going to tell her that his divorce was finally finalized and he was legally ready to be hers.

They get to the bar and order drinks while getting into one of the booths. She's the one to break the silence.
"So you want to tell me where you've been the past decade and why you left and never returned any of my calls? Or am I going to have to guess we had nothing and you felt nothing especially after Gitano?"
"Well if you'd let me explain this would go much smoother." He decided to be a smartass rather than being calm like he wanted to.
She stayed silent knowing that if she didn't he would get mad and she didn't want him mad especially not during this conversation they're going to have.
"As I was going to say before you started getting snippy. I have something to tell you and I have something to explain. I do have one question though. Where's Tucker? I haven't been able to get a hold of him in like six months." He thought starting off with asking about Tucker would ease himself into this conversation but he was so wrong.
"Uh, Elliot what does Tucker have to do with you needing to talk to me and 6 months? What do you mean you've been trying to get a hold of him for 6 months?.." Now she was confused and hurt to think that this is how the conversation would start.
"So do you know where Tucker is? Okay maybe not. So let me begin I-"
"Ed is dead Elliot. He died 6 months ago. Why do you need to know where he is Elliot?"
He looked at her and was defeated. He knew that Tucker not answering him would complicate a lot of things and since he knew she was with Tucker he knew she would take some time to believe all that he's going to reveal and hopefully she'll see past the hurt and believe him.
"Well Liv this is going to be hard to believe but I-" And they were interrupted again by her phone ringing.
