A/N: Good day readers, writers, humans, and whatever you wish to classify yourself. I'm very sorry for taking months to finish this chapter. I have no excuse, procrastination and I had quite the friendship. That said, please enjoy this chapter and hear more info on future updates at the end of the chapter.
Chapter 3: Shaken Up
Blinding lights and blaring sirens break the peace of night. The air thick with a frigid chill and the stale aroma of coffee is enough to damper the mood. Towards the sidewalk a clutter of random chatter from police officers and civilians. All these elements the gravity hero Uraraka Ochako can piece together being usual characteristics of a crime scene. Uraraka has grown accustomed to these familiar scenarios. Two run-ins with the League of Villains and the incident with the Shie Hassaikai are enough to get her used to moments like these in her journey of becoming a hero. But it goes without saying no one at her age shouldn't be witnessing these kind of gatherings on a daily basis, hero or not. However, this gathering is unlike the previous cases. The victim is the mother of a dear friend of hers. This case is personal.
Tracking Izuku wasn't difficult for Uraraka. The big giveaway being the trail of destruction to the pavement left by Izuku thanks to his quirk's power. The trail brought her to a suburban neighborhood in the western portion of Musutafa. A typical neighborhood as far as Uraraka could see. Complete with simple homes and apartments while small walls of plain fencing and light stone littered each row of homes. As it's nighttime, the streets can be seen clear and visible thanks to the streets' well placed overhead lighting. The homes give off a slight gleam from the night sky and moon, almost engulfing the area in an aura of calm. However it's not the time or place to conjure idle thoughts Uraraka said to herself.
Catching glimpse of the small crowd of police officers in the area, Uraraka got hint of where she would find Deku though it didn't do much to help to bring any calm to her current state of mind. The area felt suffocating with tension emitting from the group of officers and nearby civilians. But for the gravity hero that tension faded when the familiar faces of Aizawa and Izuku appear out of the crowd of police officers. What would've brought the young hero comfort soon shifted to pure horror when she spots something beside Izuku and Aizawa that she hoped she never had to witness.
An EMT stretcher, an occupied stretcher to be exact. The crimson stained sheet covering the stretcher's occupant felt like a punishing strike to Uraraka's legs as she collapses down to her knees in utter despair. But that wasn't what hurt Uraraka the most. The sight of Izuku staring back at the stretcher, the void of joy gone in the green haired boy's eyes and his cheeks stained from tears and grief. To watch a friend stare at the corpse of a loved one, Uraraka couldn't control her sobs.
Uraraka's cries didn't go unnoticed when she felt Aizawa nudging her with his foot. The gravity hero quickly went to wipe her tears to confront the stern gaze of her homeroom teacher. But no stern gaze was present on her teacher. The pro hero and teacher looked more abysmal than the times she encountered him in class during the school's homeroom period. His usual exhausted eyes appear past beyond what people could consider "baggy" eyes. His clothes still remain the same apart from the large, yellow folder tucked under his left arm and a mug of coffee in his other hand. His appearance may look the same but Uraraka can tell for certain his mind may be just as frayed as the rest of the class and herself from this situation with Izuku's mother.
"Ms Ochako, what are you doing here?" Aizawa asked. His tone and mind too exhausted to raise his voice to reprimand her.
"Sensai." Uraraka started, trying to compose herself while pointing towards the body on the stretcher. "Is that Deku's mother?"
"So you've heard the news as well. Huh." Aizawa replied, a hint of interest trying to break through his exhaustion. "Nope, it's not. So stop crying."
The answer took the young hero off guard. While she's thankful the victim on the stretcher wasn't Izuku's mother her cheeks flared red in embarrassment for breaking down in tears earlier. If only she inherited Toru Hagekure's quirk of invisibility she would've fled without a second's notice due to the amount of stupidity she displayed in front of her teacher.
"Good grief. Its dandy and all but I need you to focus." Aizawa barked, attempting to muster the strength to assert his heroic role. Uraraka wasted no time getting herself composed as she awaits her orders from her teacher. She may not be in uniform but her heart as a hero is just as ready to help bring justice and to aid in whatever way she can offer to help with the investigation taking place.
"Listen, Ms Orchako." Aizawa started, rubbing the sleep from his eyes while collecting his thoughts. "To briefly summarize what's happen, someone's infiltrated UA and hacked into the school's records for Deku's address. Why go through the trouble to kidnap Deku's mother is still unknown."
Uraraka simply nodded though the back of her mind is somewhat panicking to hear her school being attacked by a villain. A villain clever enough to bypass UA's top of the line security.
"There's a possibility that the perpetrator has an accomplice who is still in the school grounds. Where exactly is not certain but we know our suspect hasn't left the campus yet. As of now, the school's under heavy lockdown. The staff is rallying up your classmates and anyone else on campus to hunt down this villain."
"Oh dear." Uraraka commented, the welling of dread inside of her continue to grow. She's confident that her teachers and fellow students are capable of taking care of themselves but it's never to go without saying to be concern for the well being of her peers. A villain of this caliber to break into their school without trouble would raise some form of concern to any UA student.
"Sir, how could I assist with this investigation?" Uraraka asked Aizawa, eager to catch the suspect.
"Nothing."
Uraraka thought she misheard her teacher but to her dismay Aizawa repeated himself once more without showing as much as a scowl from the distaste those words sound. She may be a hero in training but this predicament is unacceptable to Uraraka to simply stay in the sidelines while her classmates and teachers are back at the school risking their lives with this infiltrator.
"Sensai." Uraraka spoke up in her most assertive tone she could muster. "My classmates and your allies are searching for a dangerous villain and I can't simply stand by doing nothing. What kind of hero would that make me for letting my friends put themselves at risk?"
"Exactly. Which is why I want you to do nothing about this case."
Uraraka stood in confusion to the response from the pro hero. Aizawa and other heroes she has worked under never shy her away from real hero work and experience.
"Because I need you somewhere else important Ms Ochako." Uraraka's attention shot up as her eyebrows rise up with interest from her teacher's request.
"Pardon?"
"We're in the dark on our end Uravity." Aizawa replied, addressing Uraraka by her hero name caught her off guard. "But there's one thing I could use help with that can help make light in all of this mess."
"O-of course Eraserhead! How can I serve?" Uraraka replied, affirming her confidence with her fists held up.
Aizawa peered over his shoulder towards the street curb near one of the apartment's lobbies that led to Izuku's home. Uraraka took hint of Aizawa's notion and set her sights to where her teacher was directing her. On the curb side the young hero spots Izuku sitting by himself with a blanket over his shoulder, his weary eyed gaze fixated to the street asphalt. But past the green eyes of Izuku, a mix of hurt and confusion is in a constant battle for the upper hand. There's no true winner as the battle is left with nothing but despair. And despair has taken a strong hold of poor Izuku.
Again, Uraraka struggled to keep her emotions in check. Seeing one of her fellow classmates in distraught, and with the given circumstances is simply heart breaking. No one should go through this kind of torment.
"Go to him." Aizawa spoke up, confusing the gravity hero on the request.
"What?"
"I'm needed elsewhere for this investigation. But at the moment, I can't look after Deku. Uravity, as your teacher and peer, please be there for him while I'm gone."
Silence. Nothing but silence in the air as Uraraka tries to make sense of Aizawa's request. After putting two and two together the gravity hero figured what Aizawa was implying for her. Uraraka's cheeks flared in sheer embarrassment on her task, to provide emotional support for Izuku. On one hand Uraraka would simply agree and follow through with her orders as it's a hero's duty to bring ease to those who can't defend themselves. On the other hand, this is Izuku we're talking about.
Through the time Uraraka has studied at UA, Izuku has been her key foundation in perseverance. For the equation to flip towards her to be the support is one thing, but just being close to Izuku sends her into several emotions Uraraka struggles to make out of. Nervous, jealousy, joy, love? The last one echoed in Uraraka's head which led her to curl in embarrassment, triggering her quirk to activate as she slowly floated towards the sky in a fit of panicked wailing. Aizawa, being used of Uraraka's breakdowns like these used his quirk to bring her back to Earth before refocusing her back on task. A stern talk later and Uraraka finally finds her confidence in handling her assignment.
She wasn't certain how this could help the investigation but nevertheless Uraraka nodded confidently to uphold her given task. Aizawa acknowledges his student with luck before taking his leave. With that Aizawa disappeared into the crowd of officers near the other side of the street across from Izuku's home.
With nothing else to be said Uraraka broke away from the crowd in search of Izuku Midoriya.
A/N: That wraps up this chapter. I apologize for the delay and I do hope you're willing to stick around for this adventure. As always, let me know if you have any feedback or questions and take care!- Poshil
