A/N: This just sprang to my mind and make some satirical type of story, I'm still knew to this type of thing, I just want to explore the characters in a close setting and with my OC, I know Illumi is OOC here, but I loosely base his character to an OCD person, since he really like to control and manipulate everything.

Chapter 1: Weird Journey Ahead

A young woman was on her way to the airport, it was only an hour ride from her place, this was her first time to be away from home. When she arrived at the airport she only had an hour to spare, her waist length ebony hair sway as she walk hastily to the check in counter and then she presented her luggage, ticket and passport to the clerk. She had a deep aversion in being late, a trait that was instill in her since childhood, as what they say 'time wasted is money wasted', after filling out her necessary information and being interview by the clerk for her purpose for travelling.

"Miss Kana, this way please." The attendant announce her presence.

She was then directed by the attendant and boarded the Zepilin to York New City. Kana admire the size of the Zepilin itself she only see them in pictures and up in the sky, she has never ride one before, seems like this will be one of her first time, although she rarely been out of the house, except for errands like going to the grocery store or accompanying her mother when she does her business transactions outside their shop, and on some rare occasion when she's the one who makes client transactions instead, although it only happen when her mother felt lazy doing her job. She scowled the word mother leaving a bitter taste on her mouth, she push the image of her mother at the back of her mind, she had a lot of time to ponder her situation when she's on board and comfortably seated.

The ride was uneventful as she had thirteen hours to spare, all she has done was admire the view from above, Jappon was her home for twenty one years, and was now a tiny speck in her view as the zepilin climb for a higher altitude, and now that she was all alone away from her chaotic and quirky home, this was the perfect time to reflect on what just happen a few hours ago.

Kana was just putting away the last dishes when her mother entered their kitchen, she was puzzled by what she was holding, on her right hand was her personal luggage and on her left was a brown manila envelope. She stared directly in her mother's maroon eyes, the only gene trait that she inherited from her, and the rest was from her father, whom she had never met. - Did her mother planned a trip without informing her before hand, she thought, if so she would have help her pack the necessary things, she knew her mother would never bother in things like packing, cleaning, or even cooking even if her life depends on it, her mother was one straight out a sloth, well except when getting her liquor. But the fact that she had packed her luggage and didn't inform her is extremely fishy to her taste.

"What is it mother?" Kana asked her mother in confusion. Her mother just smiled - Oh! She new that smile, she saw that countless of times when she means business.

"Well my dear sweet daughter its about time for you to go out and explore the world! And of course I already enrolled you to a University in York New, so aside from exploring I want you to study hard, so that you can take over our family business!" her mother vaguely explains and giggles. Is she drunk again? She thought.

Kana was a bit miffed on what her mother was talking about, in her state of shock she didn't realize that her mother has dragged her out of their house and literally throw her out to the streets along with her luggage and manila envelope. Once she had recovered from her state of shock, she turned her back towards her house and found that it was gone.

"WHAT THE FUCK MOTHER! LET ME IN! YOU NEED TO EXPLAIN THIS SHIT CLEARLY TO ME!" Kana screamed to the vacant lot where her house was suppose to be.

She knew her mother was laughing her ass out, she enjoyed antagonizing people pass to their boiling point, and she was no exception, daughter or not.

Her mother's unique Nen was astounding, the intricately woven rules and restrictions she put on her ability was beyond complex, when she tried to take a read on her mother's aura, it was incomparable it was beyond unworldly, she could admit that it was something dark and mysterious it was truly a frightening, she wasn't born with innate ability it was forge for years through shear hardwork and determination, and the way she speaks with such wisdom will only leave one person with more questions rather than answers., sometimes Kana suspects that her mother's true age is a contradiction of her young physique, she is never privy of her mother, especially her age, as they say "never ask a woman her age", deep down she knew it all along. although as her daughter, she never fully understood it, all she knew about her mother's power is she strictly used it for business purposes.

Kana stood up and sigh, once her mother made up her mind, there is no turning back, literally. Her house was now shrouded by her mother's zetsu, and she knew the rules, more specifically her mother's set of rules regarding her barrier, she remember her mother reciting the rules over and over like a mantra.

"In order to enter this shop, one must have a deep desire for something, if not - you will only see a vacant lot. And this shop is also protected by a barrier that keeps away those with evil intentions."

But now, Kana was thoroughly pissed of her mother's eccentricities, if only she can bypass her rules, she would demand an explanation and maybe wring her mother's neck, for good luck. Then speaking of the devil her mother emerge out of the blue in front of her, then she fish out something from her pocket sleeve and hand it over to Kana.

"Oh! I almost forgot about this, wear it at all times dear. It's a gift from your father for your coming of age."

Curious she reached out her hand and take a look at the object her mother has given. It was a leather string necklace with a pendant of Mal Occhio, she was about to ask her mother, but she had already step back in the barrier of their home, and she could hear her mother's faint voice saying:

"Good-luck!"

"Really mother?!" she exclaimed to her.

Thirteen hours later…

It was already dark when she arrived at York New airport at exactly seven pm, she fished out the brown manila envelope inside her luggage and took a peak inside the envelope, she could see her personal files like birth certificate, university files, passport, credit card, her bank account, a plain white envelope with a wax seal with a stamp of a Chinese dragon encircling the letter "Z", she wasn't familiar of the family crest that was stamped, and had never bothered studying the different family crest, and at the back of the envelope it say's: To apartment 401, and the address where she will be staying for the duration of her studies. As she rummage through the paper's she saw a smart phone, with a note:

"I do hope you know how to use this. -Love Mom"

She was beyond pissed on what her mother was insinuating, she would never understand her mother's odd and sometimes her sick humor. Of course she new how to use one she just never bothered to buy one, because sad to say, she never had friends, her world almost revolved around her mother and their shop, though she makes a few acquaintances from her mother's contacts but for business purposes only, and the only thing they have in order to make a call with other people was their home telephone.

Kana turned on the cellphone and saw a voice mail, it was from her mother, she pressed the button to play and held the phone to her right ear.

"Do call me dear when you arrive in your apartment, and also I'm sorry I didn't tell you in advance I totally forgot…" their was a pregnant pause and a giggle in the back ground. "…you will be sharing the apartment with someone from your University, although he is a year above you, nothing to fret about I got it covered, just give him the envelope that has the apartment number on it." the voice mail end with a dial tone.

"Was she drunk when she was looking for my apartment?!"

She was sharing a space with a stranger, and on top of that a "HE!" she couldn't believe what she was hearing! Oh this is one of her sick jokes! Her mother was totally giggling while making that voice mail.

Kana sigh and put her phone in her pants pocket, then she felt a string through her fingers and pull it out and then pocketed her phone, she stared at the necklace her mother had given her she forgot to wear it back home and never realize that she had pocketed it, she tied the leather string at the back of her neck, and hide the pendant inside her blouse out from prying eyes, although normally the necklace was suppose to be worn with the pendant on the back, for protection as what her mother says. She doesn't understand why her mother has given her the talisman now, and on top of that it was a gift from her elusive father, regardless of the talismans' power it's ability is solely protecting the wearer from the malicious or evil intent of an individual, her Nen ability was base upon it, although she rarely used it unless needed, it seems her parents are looking after her well being after all, its funny how they express it.

She hailed a cab and told the driver the address of her apartment, while on the cab, she can't help but compare York New from her home Jappon, there was a stark contrast, while Jappon was a peaceful country where everybody is taking their time on doing their own things, here in York New people seems to be on the go and is always on a hurry.

As minutes pass by, the cab had taken her to the out skirts of the city and to the residential area, as she observe the line of houses, then the cab skidded to a stop in front of a fancy looking apartment building. Kana wondered why her mother bothered to choose this apartment for her it seems so expensive, although it would never leave a dent in their family bank account. The nature of their business is unique though, the price of their services vary on how heavy the request is or if their client is willing to pay the sacrifice of what they demand, usually it was her mother who does the price transactions since she had been in the business god knows how long, and she also told her that her father's fortune alone can last up to seven generations, she never met the man who sired her, or any recollections of the man, basically her mother was the only one raising her, and asking about her father is like pulling teeth from a wild beast, when she did asked, it only give her a headache and a riddle to solve, her mother vaguely told her that: "He's away doing what he must do, and don't worry some day your fates will cross." after that she never asked again, although she had her own suspicions that her father left, due to her mother's eccentric behavior.

She paid the cab driver and thank him, she sighs, she had to admit to herself that she was nervous, this was all so new to her, she could feel her hands sweating due to anxiety, well there's no turning back she's here and she will make the best out of it, she told herself - so she just imagine that this is a long over due vacation, she had dedicated all her life to their shop, her mother can be a slave driver sometimes. Kana then proceed to enter the apartment complex she then fish out the note and the envelope where her floor and room number was written, she push the elevator button and a ring sound indicating that the lift had arrive, she entered the elevator and pushed the 4th button. She could feel her stomach floating when the elevator lift up, when the doors open she was met with three rows of doors leading to their designated apartment as she step out of the elevator and she observe that that the place was totally clean and neat, the place must be spacious inside from the looks of it, and there she found her apartment door with the number 401. Her mother stated in the note that she had inform her roommate of her arrival today and he will be waiting for her inside and instructed her to give the sealed envelope with the apartment number to her roommate, both her roommate and mother had an agreement that the spare key will be given once she had arrive. She pushed the door bell, and a shuffling sound could be heard inside the apartment - she was nervous to the point where she didn't realize that she was gripping her luggage tightly. Then the door opened revealing the occupant that she is sharing a space with. And oh boy! Her mother never truly disappoints her of her sick jokes.

"May the wisdom of Buddha enlightened me, I may not be a devoted follower but I do begged and please whisper in my humble ears on why on earth my mother put me in this predicament." Kana chant in her mind.

She didn't know what to say in front of her supposed roommate if he really was the supposed roommate, and she deeply prayed to the heavens that this was all a big mistake, that she had rang the the wrong door.

The man that opened the door was beyond creepy was an understatement it was like watching straight out of a horror movie and she was the unfortunate victim. The man was tall and lean, with a purple mohawk on top of his head and with a number of needles or pins or whatever the hell they are, was sticking into his head and face in various places, the face itself vaguely reminds her of Pinhead from the horror movie, Hellraiser.

"Sorry I might have ring the wrong door." she sheepishly told him, then the man made a creaking sound, like a wooden puppet being pulled by the strings -Ok! she was beyond freaking out!

"What room number are you staying?" the Pinhead asked in his monotone voice.

"401?" Kana answered hesitantly.

"Yup this is 401…Oh sorry, wait a sec." the Pinhead said, then the man in front of her proceed to remove the needles that has been sticking out on his head and face, Kana was glued on her spot, she can't take her eyes off the man, as his face reshape and contort, she watched the man's face in morbid fascination, and with a few adjustments it revealed the true face of her roommate, he has a very long, jet black hair that was combed back on his head, and a large pair of black pupil-less eyes, that reminded her of an owl. His present appearance is now a bit pleasing to look at, except for those eyes, but comparing it before, she prefer this one than Pinhead.

"Sorry about that, I just got off from work and forgot to remove the needles." he explained with his bored monotone voice. Ok she totally accept that she was not a nosy person to begin with, your business is your business alone that simple, but she's curious though, what work he was doing to warrant a change in appearance, she was contemplating on asking him like an itch that demands to be scratch, she held herself and push the idea at the back of her mind.

"No it's ok, no need to apologies…I'm Kana by the way, Kana Ichihara"

Then his roommate extend his arm and gestured for Kana to shake his hand in greeting.

"I'm Illumi, Illumi Zoldyck, and please to meet you." he said in a flat cheery tone.

"Likewise…" she answered back.

Dear Mother,

I do hope you enjoyed pulling my leg, if only you knew I was itching to cross between space and time like you do, I would have done so by now and smothered you on your sleep, but sad to say I can't. A more detailed fore warning would be nice before you send me to my death.

-Love, Your Daughter

The woman with long ebony black hair and maroon eyes, smiled with mirth at her phone, her daughter had send her first mail. It was quite easy to rile up her daughter, and she admit it was pretty funny, and she can't help but laugh on her daughter's expense. Her daughter's journey had just begun, and it seems their fate had finally crossed. She may be worried for her daughter, but she trust her husband meddling, after all he was the most powerful man alive.

"I do hope she's ok, its only been a few hours, and I have already missed her so." she mussed

Then suddenly the sound of the door bell rang, indicating that a client has entered the shop she smiled. She stand up from her sanza position, and walk out of her lounge to greet her new client who was now waiting on her front door.

"Ho! It seems that the wheels of fate had just begun to spin. This should be interesting." she thought and smirk.
