"This concludes this month's meetings gentlemen." King Kuei announced. Aang groaned with a sigh of relief knowing that he could get to leave Ba Sing Se early for once because even politicians get tired of meetings. Fortunately, Zuko had to attend this month's meetings otherwise Aang would have been bored out of his mind. "That went rather well." Zuke went as he walked over to Aang.
"I thought so too, there had been a minimal amount of needless bickering and we achieved what we needed early," Aang responded, getting up from his chair after hours of sitting feeling stiff and sore.
"Unfortunately I have matters to attend to in the Fire Nation, so I will be leaving today," Zuko says as he motions for Aang to walk out of the palace with him.
"Don't lie to me Zuko I know that you just want to get back so you can see Mai," Aang replies, thinking of the last time he surprised Zuko shuddering at that thought.
"That may be true there young Aang but at least I paid attention in the meetings instead of thinking of my wife the entire time."
"Hey that's not completely true Zuko, I paid attention half of the time," Aang adds blushing as he goes back to his daydreams about Katara.
"Whatever you say Aang. Send my best wishes to Katara. Until we meet again."
"See you later Sifu Hotman," Aang says as he walks to the stables to find Appa.
As Aang is walking to the stables he thinks to himself about how he should surprise Katara when he gets back early. "I should stop by that chocolate shop in the Upper Ring I saw earlier and get some sweets for Katara."
Aang walks over to Appa who grunts when he sees Aang. "I know buddy I missed you too, you just have to wait a little bit longer before we can leave," Aang tells Appa as he pets him on his arrow. Aang walks away from the stables to find the Chocolate shop that he had seen earlier this week. After wandering around for a half-hour Aang found the shop that he was looking for and entered.
"How do you do their young man?" the Shopkeeper asks Aang.
"I'm doing rather well today. I am currently looking for some of your best chocolates." Aang replies. As he looks at the high-end chocolates available to him, thinking which ones Katara would like the most.
"That's good to hear Sir. Are these chocolates for a special someone?"
"They are, they are for my wife as a gift."
The shopkeeper looks up seeing Aang's tattoos. "Oh I'm sorry Avatar, please pick any chocolates that you want, it's on the house."
"It's ok, I am a normal paying customer even if I am the Avatar," Aang said as he placed the coins he needed for the chocolates and some extra out of generosity. "Katara is going to love these chocolates."
Aang was practically hovering as he walked to Appa's stables so that he could get home to see Katara faster since he was so excited.
"Hey, Appa it's time to go home!" Aang shouts as he airbeds himself onto Appa's head. "Yip yip"' Appa groans as he takes off going Southwest to the newly minted Republic City.
Katara's Pov (the next morning)
Katara groaned as she got up not long before noon once the sun crept into her eyes. As she got up she searched around her room for Aang forgetting that he was in an important diplomatic meeting in Ba Sing Se.
"I wish Aang was here," Katara thought out loud to nobody in particular. She got dressed for the day after she smelled one of Aang's tunics, inhaling his sweet smell that filled her nostrils. She moved into their kitchen to make herself some breakfast. Eyeing up some sea prunes and rice, Katara started cooking.
After she finished eating her breakfast and cleaning up she thought that she heard something move and turned around trying to spot the possible intruder, bending water near her for self-defense. She turned back around to finish cleaning dishes on high alert, when a pair of hands covered her eyes, causing her to jump, and got a kiss on her neck.
"Guess who"...
Aang's POV
Aang finished his morning meditation, feeling cleared, he had his trademark ear to ear grin as he thought how happy Katara would be to see him today instead of tomorrow. "Appa are you ready to be home in your cave with the other bison that we found over by the Eastern Air Temple." Appa happily groaned in response thinking of his new mate.
"Appa I will be hopping off you and gliding down to surprise Katara. Once I hop of you, you can go to your cave and shake the saddle off." Giving Appa a pet on the head, Aang glided down to the ground before he used his airbending to slow himself down before impact with the ground.
Aang peered into his bedroom window to try and spot Katara, once he saw that Katara wasn't in there he caught a whiff of sea prune which he found repulsive, he moved to the main room facing the kitchen. Spotting Katara cleaning up her meal he opened the window silent as a mouse, moving into his house he stepped onto a creaky plank causing Katara to turn around ready to fight. When he had stepped on the loud plank Aang dropped down behind one of their couches. After Katara turned back around to finish doing her dishes he saw his opening to finish his sneak attack. Filling the distance between him and his wife, covering her eyes he planted a sweet kiss onto the soft mocha skin of her neck, his softest voice saying "Guess who"
3rd person POV
Katara blushed when she felt Aang kiss her with the passion he always had when returning from a trip she didn't go on. "Surprise!" Aang shouted to his wife as she turned around to look up at him and returned his kiss with interest.
"You're home early."
"This month's meetings got done early and I missed you, so Appa and I rushed back so we flew back as fast as we could. Speaking of surprises I've got another one for you" Aang pulls out the chocolates that he bought in Ba Sing Se handing them to Katara, who looked over them observing their quality.
"These are amazing Aang" planting a kiss on his cheek causing him to blush "I can't remember the last time I had chocolates like these. I have a surprise for you as well."
"Honey what is it, you know that I love surprises!"
"I hope that he isn't mad or disappointed with my surprise"
"Yeah, I think this will be the best surprise you've ever gotten. We are going to be-"
"Going to be what Katara?" Aang asks inquisitively.
"If you let me finish what I was saying I could tell you."
"Yeah Sorry."
"As I was saying before I got interrupted, we are going to be parents Aang." A tear rolling down her cheek as she broke the news to her husband.
"Katara, that's the best thing that I've heard since I asked to marry you and you said yes." Aang pulled his wife into a hug spinning her around a few times.
"Can you please put me down Aang, I know you're excited but you're crushing me," Katara barely managed to say.
"Sorry, Sorry, I'm just so excited that we are going to be parents in a few months. Do you think that I'll be a good parent Katara? We never got to see our parents in the temples."
"Of course you'll be a good parent Aang, You're so good with other kids."
Planting a kiss on her the tip of her nose Aang went on to say "I think that your surprise was better than mine was"
"I would agree with that statement, but it was a close competition. We'll be great parents Aang don't you worry about it"
They looked at each other in the eyes, kissing each other before the next chapter of their life began.
The End
