Blooming Through the Cracks: Chapter 1-Jaded

The axe's blade drooled with red saliva as clots rained into the sickly green hairs of a man with his lifeless eyes rolled into the back of his head. A woman with black hair shrouding her face wailed senselessly as she watched her daughter with shocked horror. The weapon's thin wooden neck choked by a young teal girl with strands of teal hair hanging in front of her eyes. Red and blue lights took turns displaying their soft colors on the walls. The hoots of the sirens have finally ceased, but the abrupt sound of the slamming door and hurried footsteps replaced them. The mother sobbed harder, and her speech became an unintelligible mess. The only words the now restrained girl could make out were "WHY, MIKU?! WHY?!"

"Because I've had enough."

Tired turquoise eyes looked through the dirty bus window as teal hair jolted from every sudden bump of the vehicle. The woman stared listlessly between the passing trees and the faded reflection of herself. The scene of her mercilessly beating the axe into her father's head replayed in her head with no intention of ending. Did she feel any remorse for the crime she had committed just days ago on her 19th birthday? Certainly not, and why should she? After all, her father was actually-

"Hey, you!" a voice cried.

The woman was snapped out of her thoughts and swiftly whipped her head to find a young blonde girl's face just inches away from the tealette's, blocking her entire view. Surprised, she jumped back and hit the back of her head against the window.

"Ow!" she yelped, her hands nursing the sore spot.

The other girl giggled.

"Sorry for scarin' ya like that! So, what's your name?" she asked energetically.

The teal girl just gawked at her. Her eager blue eyes and her beaming smile seemed to not want to budge unless they got an answer from her. Her eyes fell to the printed name on her orange jumpsuit which read "R. Kagamine" in bold print. She then raised them to meet the blonde's cheery expression.

"Um...I'm...Miku...Miku Hatsune..." she dubiously replied.

"Oh, wow! That's such a cool name! Miku! It kinda sounds like 'leeku' almost! Like the vegetable! Hey, you'd even look like a leek if you put your hair in twintails!" she rambled.

Miku blushed at the droll comment. She would most certainly not look like a leek, but the more she pondered it, the more she believed her.

"Oh!" she began again, "guess I should tell you my name now, huh? I'm-"

"Rin!" another voice called.

Miku's curious eyes searched for the culprit of the voice, while the blonde girl's smile melted into a pout. A young boy resembling the girl frantically rushed behind her and gripped the edges of the two bus seats, one on each side.

"There you are! Why the hell d'ja just get up like that?!" he asked.

"Because Miku looked interesting! With the green hair 'n all!" Rin said.

The boy rolled his eyes before giving Miku an apologetic look.

"Sorry 'bout her. She can get a little...excited around people."

Rin grimaced at him. Miku just continued to switch her eyes from both of them, trying to piece together what the hell was going on.

"So..." she started slowly, "are you guys...?"

"Twins? Sure are!" Rin proudly interrupted.

Miku gave her a slight nod and focused on the boy.

"And you're...?"

"I'm Len Kagamine, the younger twin."

The tealette examined both of their features; the only difference being the boy's hair tied in a short ponytail. Wait...Len's a boy...why was a boy going to a woman's prison, anyway?

"Um...Len? Why're you going to a woman's prison?"

Len felt his face fall into a look of shame, making Rin snicker.

"Because..." he sighed irritably.

"Because they said he looked like a girl during the mugshots!" Rin cackled.

"Shaddup! It's not even funny!" he spat.

Miku could not help but let out a few droplets of laughter trickle from her lips. Rin and Len somehow managed to lift her spirits with their banter. The twins saw this and succumbed to laughter as well.

The bus then came to a screeching halt, the sudden force pushing Len to the floor. The driver pushed the lever to allow the door to fold open. A short-haired brunette wearing a rather...skimpy police attire...clicked her heels onto the bus. Not caring about the boy who was sprawled on the floor, she used him as a mat, digging her black heels into his spine and damn near crushing it.

"OWW!" Len muffled.

"Alright, ladies!" she started stringently, "Welcome to your temporary, or for some of you...your new...home, Hokkaido Women's Penitentiary. I'm Meiko Sakine, the warden of the place."

Damn...SHE is the warden? THIS BITCH?

Miku shot her an intimidating look, capturing the attention of the brown-eyed woman. She, of course, found her expression to be amusing. Meiko slowly approached her with the ominous sound of clicking heels. A cunning smirk tugged her lips, but the teal girl remained undaunted. Rin just stared at her features absently.

"Is there something you'd like to tell me...Miku? Or should I say...father-killer?" Meiko asked mockingly.

Rin whirled her head to Miku in amazement.

"You killed your dad?!" she whispered.

Miku did not respond. She only kept her cold glare at the brown-haired fox.

"I'm gonna make sure you have a helluva time here," Meiko venomously promised before walking back to the front of the bus, but not without her heels forcefully burying themselves in Len's back again.

"AGHH!"

"Now that that's outta the way, ladies on the left row, stand up, 'n follow me. Right side, do the same afterwards."

Upon hearing this, Len scrambled to his feet and scurried over to Miku and Rin to avoid getting trampled. After watching the last of the female inmates exit the bus, the three stood with the rest of their row and followed suit. The blazing sun clawed at their faces with its huge rays as they stepped off the bus. A whimsical hum emitted from the blonde girl as her twin brother quietly yet in a panicked voice tried to get her to stop.

"Hey! Who's singin' back there?!" Meiko harshly asked.

...now, how the hell did she hear that? Miku wondered.

The woman briskly walked to the back where she and the blonde twins were.

"Goddammit all..." Miku murmured.

Meiko stopped dead in her tracks and shoved her scowling face into theirs. An oncoming smile tickled Rin's lips as she tried to hold a straight face.

"Which one of you was it?" she sternly asked.

Miku just stared at her, while Len began to sweat bullets. A stifled snort scraped against Rin's throat, gaining the brunette's attention.

"And what the hell're you laughin' about blondie? There somethin' you find funny?"

"Yes," the teal girl spoke up.

Len shifted his nervous eyes to Miku whose face was devoid of any expression.

"Oh?" Meiko slowly approached her and inched her face close to hers. The strong smell of alcohol burned her nostrils as she spoke.

"Then since you wanna be such a badass, tell me. What's so funny?"

"A clown."

The warden's eyes furrowed in confusion.

"A clown? What clown?"

"You."

Miku smirked at the woman's face crinkling and glowing red in anger. She roughly seized the girl by the collar of her orange jumpsuit and dragged her to the front of the line.

"Heh, heh. What a bitch," Rin disdainfully remarked loud enough for Meiko to hear.

Len felt himself wanting to piss his suit as the warden returned. She gripped both of them by the necks of their collar's while holding Miku's.

"I can tell you three're gonna be a fuckin' handful," she growled.

She lugged them like ragdolls to the very front of the line and snapped her head to the row of inmates.

"Anyone else got somethin' smart to say?!" she barked.

The women glanced at one another silently, not daring to further upset the waspish warden.

"WELL?!"

A small collective "no, ma'am" muttered from them. Meiko kept her unwavering glare before turning rigidly to the entrance of a stormy fortress.

"Heh, heh. You bitches'll have fun here," she chuckled darkly, her tightly curved fingers choking Len's collar.

A strained gag tore from his throat, while Rin just smiled. Miku only kept her flinty eyes to the ground wondering the hell that awaits the three.

Hey guys! Long time, no update! My bad! I'm 20, in college and have a job, so life has been...fucked, obviously. Especially covid...how the fuck does that even happen? A damn virus taking over the planet like we're in a science fiction movie. Tf? Anyways, I'm back and here to stay, and I'll try to finish Liar's Tongue if I can. Oh, and I changed Pepsi-kun to Onigatari or Oni-chan, Oni-kun, or whateva you wanna call me
