Note: this scene is set after the interrogation-scene but before the last scene in Gibbs's basement.
Sloane is ready to leave the office for the day. She stops by the coffee stand on the navy yard for one last refill of the day before she heads home. As she walks to her car, she meets Abby, who is also heading home for the day.
"Abby," Sloane calls out. Abby stops and looks around to identify the person who called her name. Sloane is walking towards her and waves a hand at her. Abby starts to walk towards Sloane. They meet in a classical Abby hug.
"so, Abby, I just wanted to hear how it went with Kasie?"
"oh, it went SO great," Abby says and immediately interlocks her arm with Sloane as they continue to walk in the direction of where Sloane was headed. Sloane still hasn't quite gotten used to how friendly and very physical Abby is around her friends. She is always hugging and touching people, which is a considerable contrast to Gibbs. He is very protective of his personal space, except when it comes to Abby. She seems to be the only one who is allowed to invade his personal space on a regular occasion. "Kasie IS Amazing," Abby says.
"I'm glad to hear you two worked it out. Did you find out why Kasie didn't connect with you?" Sloane asks, curious.
"yes. It turned out Kasie was actually kind of a fan. I mean, can you believe it? A fan of mine? I am… like… just Abby. I do the job that I love. I'm just me. I mean. Being a fan of McGee. I would get that he is a published novelist and Gibes… I mean, Gibbs is like a legend in NCIS." Abby says. Sloane has to agree with those things. It also amuses her how Abby is completely downgrading herself and the importance of her role on the team.
"Abby, you do know you are quite a legend within NCIS too. You have solved some of the most spectacular cases in NCIS history.
"no, I have now." Abby interrupts and stops walking. She turns to look at Sloane. "I am just Abby. It is the Gibbs-gut and team Gibbs who solve the cases."
"Okay," Sloane says and takes a moment to choose her words.
"think about this," Sloane says, and Abby looks at her with great anticipation like a little child waiting for a difficult task.
"how many times doing just one case does a member of team-Gibbs comes down to your lab and says…"
"what do ya got, Abbs?" Abby finishes trying to imitate Gibbs. It makes both Abby and Sloane laugh.
"yes, exactly." Sloane says. "think about it. Would they ask you that question so much if you weren't a vital part of the investigation? Ducky gets credit through his book, Gibbs is… well, Gibbs." Sloane says with an evident lack of ways to explain why Gibbs gets credit for his incredible work other than Gibbs just being Gibbs.
"and you, Abby…" they continue to walk towards their cars while they continue their conversation. "you get credit too for your amazing forensics work. People know you within the NCIS community. Heard about you and your amazing work when I lived in San Diego."
"you did?" Abby asks, surprised, and stops walking to look at Sloane, surprised.
"yes," Jack says, like she is trying to convince Abby of what she is saying. Jack then interlocks her arm with Abby's for them to continue walking. They finally reach Sloane's little blue car.
"well, Abby. I am so glad to hear things worked out for you and Kasie. I am sure Dr. Mallard is too."
"Thank you," Abby says and throws her arms around Jack in a big and surprising hug, so Sloane nearly drops her coffee cup. "Jack."
"You are welcome, Abby."
Abby releases Jack from the hug. "do you have any plans tonight? I am going to hang out with some friends if you want to come?" Abby offers Jack as Jack is about to get into her car.
"Actually, I do have plans tonight, but thanks for the offer, Abby." Jack almost feels bad about turning Abby's kind offer down, but Jack has been invited to Gibbs's house tonight, and she really doesn't want to decline that offer.
"Another time then." Abby says and gives Jack one last quick hug, "have a good night." Abby says and then walks to her own car.
Jack gets into her own car. She has about an hour before she has dinner plans with Gibbs. He invited her over to his house tonight. She isn't sure what to make of it, but he said he wanted to cook steaks for her and had something to show her.
I might add another scene/chapter to episode 1517 but I don't have the right idea yet, so stay tuned.
