Mansion Courtyard Visca Forest Park

All the remaining applicants stood by awaiting their instructions for the second phase of the Hunters exam, when suddenly a loud and fierce growl echoed throughout the courtyard. The crowd began to murmur and one applicant even said "What was that noise?" The woman known as Menchi looked up at the large man known as Buhara and said "sounds to me like you're getting hungry." letting everyone know the sound came from the large man's stomach. Buhara replied "Not just hungry, I'm famished!" Menchi then uncrossed her legs and stood up with her hands on her hips "Well, there you have it. The second Phase..." she paused for dramatic effect "Will be cooking!" she finished while pointing at the crowd of applicant's

The so-called ninja Hanzo's eyes widened while saying "wait... we're cooking?" Another applicant who goes by the name Todo the Wrestler spoke his displeasure as well "What do you mean, we're cooking? We came here to take the Hunter Exam!" He seemed to be a sumo wrestler of sorts he had orange hair combed back and tied off in a low ponytail with his sides being buzzed, he wore a black long sleeve shirt with his applicant badge number on his left side which read 255, he also wore grey pants with knee guards, on his feet he wore brown boots, lastly he carried with him a traveling bag he had thrown over his shoulder.

The Examiner Menchi replied smoothly "That's right. The Second Phase of the exam will be preparing a meal that'll satisfy our palates." a random applicant asked "why do we have to cook?" Menchi once again replied smoothly while briefly closing her eyes "Don't you know? It's simple really, because we're Gourmet Hunters!" every one of the applicants began to laugh save a select few one of those few being Ferev "Idiots. Gourmet Hunters are not to be laughed at. They enter hostile territory on a regular basis just so they can get an ingredient for their next dish. Gourmet Hunters are by far one of the most dangerous Hunter professions."Ferev thought to himself

Meanwhile about a mile away Satotz was observing the Second Phase from a distance "Gourmet Hunters, Menchi and Buhara. Their selection as examiners could prove quite problematic." he said to himself as he paused briefly while lowering a pair of binoculars he was using "Only 50 applicants left. But, depending on the task, it's possible that fewer than ten will pass the Second Phase." he finished while bringing the binoculars back up to his eyes. The applicant known as Todo spoke up once again he had his eyes closed and an arrogant smirk on his face "So, you're both Gourmet Hunters. And what exactly do you want us to make?" he finished while opening his eyes. Menchi just briefly glared at Todo before closing her eyes while saying "Buhara?" Buhara then finally stood up and as his foot hit the ground a slight tremor was felt throughout the courtyard. "Today's required ingredient will be pork." Buhara stated but then a random applicant questioned "Pork? You mean like pig meat?" Buhara then continued explaining the challenge "Feel free to use meat from any species of pig in Visca Forest. As you can see, you'll use these cooking facilities to prep your pork dishes." he then referred to all the cooking stations and supplies. "To pass the exam, you must create a dish to satisfy our discriminating palates." Buhara finished

However, Menchi added in her two-cents while her eyes were still closed "But we won't be evaluating taste alone. So, take this seriously. Is that clear?" she stated while opening her eyes "when we've both eaten our fill, this portion of the exam will be over." As Menchi finished explaining Todo spoke up in an arrogant tone "okay, enough talk. Let's just get to it, alright?" Buhara then raised his right hand while saying "Let the exams Second Phase..." Buhara then slammed his hand against his belly making a loud gong like sound "BEGIN!" he finished while the applicants rushed out of the courtyard scrambling to find a pig to cook. Once all the applicants left Menchi could still be seen standing on the patio of the mansion with her hands on her hips While she stared at the now empty courtyard, she said "Any species of pig, huh? You've got a real mean streak, don't you?" Buhara just humbly replied "Well, you did say I got to pick the ingredient." Menchi just turned towards Buhara while smiling wide "There's only one species of pig in Visca Forest, but you already knew that." she said amusingly Buhara just simply replied "hmmm. I hope nobody gets killed!"

Visca Forest

The 50 remaining applicants were still searching all over the forest for any sign of pigs but so far no one had any luck. Ferev was searching some bushes where he found some tracks but soon, he felt large tremors in the ground. He quickly looked up and saw Gon, Leorio, Kurapika, and Killua all running from a stampede of giant carnivorous pigs. They were about 10 feet tall and at least another ten feet wide with large fangs and huge snouts that looked like they could crush cement. Some unlucky applicants were sent flying almost immediately before some of the pigs broke off and began attacking at random. Ferev was just calmly walking towards a Pig that was getting ready to charge him. As he was walking, he pulled his coat to side and grabbed his right revolver and began talking lowly to himself "The Great Stamp a carnivorous pig known for its strong snout that can kill a man in one hit. But what most people don't know is..." Ferev then paused as the pig then charged him running full speed when it was about halfway to Ferev he raised his right arm and pulled the trigger all one could see was the Bullet Trace from where the bullet left the barrel before a spurt of blood appeared on the top of the pigs snout and forehead. The pig collapsed and came to a sliding halt right in front of Ferev the pig causing a little wind to blow making his coat flutter. "That the Great Stamp has one weakness, their soft foreheads." he finished while placing his revolver back in the holster on his right thigh while grabbing the pig and hefting it on to his left shoulder as if it weighed nothing. The applicants who weren't being chased just stared at Ferev's retreating form not knowing wither to be impressed or scared.

Visca Forest Mansion Phase Two testing site

At the Mansion Menchi and Buhara were awaiting the applicants return when suddenly tremors began to form on the ground. Menchi and Buhara couldn't help but gasp in shock because all 50 applicants were returning and each of them had a huge Great Stamp pig on their backs. Buhara couldn't help but chuckle and lick his lips while Menchi commented "Look at that! They sure caught a lot." Soon all the applicants got to their cooking stations and they all started doing the same thing. The applicants placed the pig on a large rotisserie and lit their pit fires then began rotating the pig. Ferev however, just shook his head and began cleaning and cutting his pig in even distributions.

Meanwhile Satotz was still observing the Second Phase with his binoculars from his hiding spot "hmmm. This is an exceptional batch of applicants, indeed. But the hard part is yet to come." he finished while lowering his binoculars. At the Second phase Todo had just finished roasting his pig and brought it up to Menchi and Buhara to judge. The pig looked like it hadn't even been cleaned, the whole pig was roasted over and charred with a mix of mostly brown and some black. Menchi didn't bother opening her eyes to look at the pig while Buhara had an eager smile on his face and a tablecloth serving as a bib. Meanwhile Todo spread his arms wide while boldly stating "Now, eat the pig and send me to the next phase." Menchi still keeping her eyes shut simply said "Okay, time to judge. Taste testing..." Todo just stood there his eyes closed and a confident smirk on his face. Buhara was happily digging into the pig not bothering with utensils and just bit into the pig face first. After a few mouthfuls he raised his judge sign which had the picture of a red circle on it. Menchi however didn't even bother putting the dish in her mouth and raised her judge sign which had a picture of a blue x on it. then a buzzer sound went off. After hearing the buzzer Todo opened his eyes wide in shock while he was slack jawed also saying "Huh?" Menchi still not bothering to look at Todo stated as if it was obvious "The pork's overcooked. It's way too tough. It totally ruins the flavor." However, Todo was not taking this lying down so he said "Come on! You haven't even tried it!" Menchi eyes suddenly open only they were pure white from rage and glaring at Todo. Her pride as one-star Gourmet Hunter wouldn't let her taste such a disgusting meal so she then yelled "I don't have to! It's obvious."

The so-called ninja Hanzo was next and just like Todo he presented a fully roasted pig that was charred even more black than Todo's. Hanzo had eyes closed and his arms crossed while a confident smirk was on his face. As the sun made his bald head gleam he said "There, I hope you enjoy it." But just like before Buhara gave the ok after a couple bites but Menchi raised her X sign and the buzzer went off again. Hanzo actually had a muscle spasm uncrossing his arms in the process. With his eyes wide and mouth agape, he asked "But why?" Menchi once again stated as if it was the most obvious thing "Charred and dry on the outside, raw on the inside. Your fire was way too hot." Next one by one the applicants would approach Menchi and Buhara and they would all get the same result as Todo and Hanzo. Ferev just noticed another applicant get rejected and once again shook his head turning his attention back on his dish. As Ferev worked on his dish Gon and the others were starting to worry since no applicant had passed yet.

After another applicant served Menchi and Buhara another roasted pig Menchi was beginning to get pissed off, the multiple tick marks on her head were a sign of that. As another applicant approached them, she angrily thought "Honestly! They're all just roasting the entire pig, like it's the only thing they know how to do. None of them have made any effort at all!"Gon and the others watched Menchi chew out another applicant before Leorio commented "not one applicant has passed yet." Leorio's swelling had gone down a little after using Ferev's ice pack and opted to put his white dress shirt back on while storing his suit jacket in his briefcase. Kurapika also commented on their Examiner "And Menchi has yet to take a single bite of anyone's entry." Kurapika like Leorio opted to put on his blue tabard that had red rune symbols from his clan etched on it. Menchi was getting more and more aggravated as she swung her judges sign left and right while screaming "Seriously? Can't anyone out there make something that'll satisfy my taste buds." After Menchi's outburst a light bulb went off in Kurapika's head "That's, it! The Second Phase is a cooking test, but they're judging us based on originality and observation." Leorio thinking he just figured it out put his hand on his chin while saying "Oh, I see." As Ferev's dish was finishing cooking he decided to observe Gon's group hoping they figured out the challenge like he did but what he saw made his face turn a shade of purple and sweat drop. Up first was Leorio sadly Leorio had followed the crowd and roasted the pig but to change it up he placed a tiny flag with the Hunters Association symbol on top of the pig. Leorio stated confidently "Tell me how much you love it." Menchi getting even more pissed off threw the dish in the air while glaring and screaming at Leorio "Is this supposed to be a kid's meal!?" Buhara went diving after the pig and ate it quickly.

Next up was Gon but like Leorio all he did was dress up the pig. This time with pink orchids that had a red center. He had placed them in a ring around the bottom of the pig and in the shape of a halo on the top, He then finished the decoration with a big pink bow. Gon confident he had nailed it had his fists on hips with his chest out while saying "Okay, mine is next." Menchi Grew yet another tick mark before throwing this dish in the air as well while screaming "It's just like the last one!" Buhara once again dove for the pig and ate it. Ferev watched Kurapika place what looked like a tower of pork chops but in-between them were various greens and vegetables in all honesty it seemed Kurapika got the meaning of the challenge. Kurapika had his arms low but spread open with his palms out while saying "The next entry's mine, ready to be judged." Menchi had a disinterested look on her face as she stared at Kurapika's Dish but said "Well, finally, something that resembles an actual dish" Menchi than actually grabbed her fork and took a decent size portion of Kurapika's dish getting both meat and veggies. As Menchi chewed Kurapika thought to himself "The challenge is to utilize the facilities and ingredients provided to highlight the main future: the pork. In short, the taste is insignificant." Menchi just got more pissed off and threw the dish in the air again while yelling "Gross!" Kurapika gasped in shock at being wrong but Buhara was once again there to catch the flying food and eat it. Ferev had his head cast down with a dark hue covering the top half of his head with multiple sweat drops as watched Gon's group fail spectacularly Menchi than sat back down closed her eyes and turned her head away from Kurapika while explaining "Presentation is Important, but not at the expanse of the flavor. You're basically no better than Number 403." she finished with a blank look on her face while pointing her blue x sign at him with the buzzer going off.

Menchi was getting ready to fail everyone there when suddenly Number 62 started to walk up to her and Buhara. Two large dome covered platers were in both his hands and when he reached them, he placed the platers in front of both judges before grabbing the lids and saying "Your final dish Examiners." he then lifted the lids reveling two barbequed rack of ribs, eight pork chops, and two pork roasts. Buhara had stars in his eyes and was drooling even after eating 49 pigs. Menchi actually opened her eyes in surprise at what she saw. Next to her Buhara already began digging in to his meal the ribs gone in an instant. Menchi first tried the pork roast and her eyes once again widened in surprise she could taste the different spices and herbs in the meat, next she tried the pork chops as soon the meat entered her mouth it seemed to almost melt instantly but still remain a little chewy, and last she tried a rib she could taste the sweetness of the sauce mixed with juices of the meat. Everything had been cooked to absolute perfection as Menchi continued to eat she thought to herself "He had both sauce and spices on hand not to mention he knew exactly the right amount to use. He was also able to infuse the pig's blood into the meat of the pork chops making them both chewy and easy to fall apart. Well, at least one of these losers can cook." Menchi finished her meal and glanced at Buhara who was licking his plate clean he already had given his ok after he ate the ribs. Menchi then closed her eyes again while crossing her legs and said "Well, it's no Gourmet meal but it's edible. I guess you pass." she then raised her judge sign that had a red circle on it and a bell rung. Every one of the applicants were in complete shock not only did Menchi eat all of Number 62s food but she even passed him however, before anyone could object Menchi spoke up "So, the rest of you don't pass to the next phase. Exams over!" the whole crowd gasped in shock not believing they had come this far to fail.

Meanwhile back with Satotz he had just observed what happened "Just as I feared, she's reverted back to her bad habits." Lowering his binoculars, he reached into his suit pocket and pulled out a black smartphone and hit the number on his speed dial. High above the clouds right above the second phase in a huge Zeppelin like airship in the design of a fanged torpedo a cellphone began to ring. Mr. Beans was a small man who wore a black business suit white dress gloves, black dress shoes, and who's head was green and shaped like a bean. He answered the phone and as he listened to what Satotz said he looked at his boss and chairman of the Hunters Association. He was an old man appearing to be in his mid 70's he had a white battle kimono on with the sleeves being longer than his arms the cuffs had blue detailing as well as the sides and bottom of the outfit, he had on traditional Tabi socks, he had a long white goatee that had a bit of grey at the bottom, what remained of his white hair was tied in a tall ponytail, to finish it off he wore two studded earrings in each of his ears. "What should we do now, Chairman?" the bean shaped man asked. The chairman simply said "I suppose I have no choice." the chairman than stood up his Kimono falling past his arms "It's time for a little outing." he stated while slipping on his wooden geisha sandles and walking out of his office.

Meanwhile back at the mansion courtyard the applicants were beginning to voice their displeasure and outrage at being failed. One particular applicant made his anger quite clear by breaking his cooking station with his bare hands. Everyone looked to see Todo the Wrestler clenching his fists and yelling at the Examiner "This is unacceptable! Do ya hear me? I will not accept this!" Menchi just stood in front of Todo with her hands on her hips and a disinterested look in her eyes while saying "Say what you want, but you still failed." she then closed her eyes once again. However, Todo was having none of it and growled while yelling "Shut the hell up! You asked for pork and we gave it to you! We risked our lives-" Todo was cut off by Menchi Who stated "Your challenge was to prepare a pork dish that both examiners would find delicious, and only one of you succeeded. You all did pretty much the exact same thing. It's like you didn't even try to figure it out. And when it looked like you had tried, it was just fancy plating with no flavor to back it up. It's clear that only one of you took this seriously." The so-called ninja Hanzo sighed while saying with his eyes closed "yeah but come on, pork? No matter how you cook it, it's still pork."

Menchi then suddenly jumped forward grabbing the so-called ninja Hanzo by the scruff of his shirt while menacingly screaming in his face "You wanna say that one more time? If I hear any more crap from you, I'll shove my arm up your ass, and knock your teeth out! Got it?" Menchi then threw him on the ground and sat back down on the couch while crossing her legs before she continued speaking "So, as I was saying, only one of you has the guts to cook remotely new or innovative." Number 255 Todo spoke up again "Hey! Shut up! I'm not here because I'm trying to be some gourmet cook, but a Hunter!" the crowd roared in agreement with Todo as he continued speaking "My goal is to become a Blacklist Hunter, and no stupid Gourmet Hunter is gonna tell me I can't." Menchi just looked away from Todo while closing her eyes and said "then it's too bad that a stupid Gourmet Hunter is your Examiner. Well, better luck next year, I guess." While Menchi was talking Todo had been Glaring and clenching his fists but after hearing that his face turned red as he yelled "Huh? Why, you... Don't mess with me!" he then charged at Menchi but before he could move one step Buhara came forward and Bitch-slapped Todo into the air until he flew right into the wall of the Gate. Menchi just sighed and said "Buhara, please don't interfere." Buhara glanced at Menchi while saying "I'm sorry, but it kinda looked like you were gonna kill him if I didn't step in." Revealing what Buhara did was actually a kindness. Menchi just chuckled while saying "Probably." she stood up and in each of her hands were four custom chef knives the blades being 3 feet in length with simple round wooden handles. She then began walking down the steps of the mansion patio while speaking "Let's get this straight. We frequently venture into the dens of ferocious beasts, in search of the finest ingredients." as she finished walking down the stairs, she then began juggling her eight chef knives with practiced ease not once cutting herself while she continued speaking "And every Hunter is Proficient in at least some form of martial art. You lack focus, and the will to experiment with new things." She then stopped juggling her blades and caught four in each hand again while pointing at the crowd with the four in her left hand "And that alone disqualifies all but one of you from becoming Hunters." she finished with finality

There was long silence throughout the courtyard before a loud voice was heard over an intercom. "Well, that said, it seems a bit excessive to fail all but one applicant." Menchi and Buhara gasped as they looked up toward the sky and soon everyone else followed suit. There right above the exam site was a huge airship that resembled a fanged torpedo with the Hunters association symbol on the side. One random applicant even said "The symbol of the Hunter's Association! It must be someone from the committee." suddenly a figure could be seen jumping from the air ship and falling straight down to the middle of the courtyard. As the figure landed a huge crater was formed as well as a cloud of dust. Once the dust settled the Chairman of the Hunter's association could be seen walking out of the crater towards Menchi and Buhara, the clacking of his wooden sandles echoing throughout the courtyard. One applicant asked "Hey, wait who's the old man?" Menchi stepped forward while answering the applicant's question "He is the Head of the Exam Committee, and he's responsible for the Hunter Exam. Chairman Netero."

Netero had a laid-back look on his face as he said "Oh, I just work behind the scenes. It's not all that impressive." He then closed his eyes while continuing "I only Intervene in the exams when little issues like this one pop up. Now, dear Menchi." Netero then opened his eyes and looked at Menchi with a caring gaze. Menchi replied with a respectful "Sir." Netero than Continued speaking "It's come to my attention that you've chosen to fail all but one of this year's applicants, the reason being, as I understand it, their general reluctance to challenge the unknown." Netero finished while taking a quick glance at Menchi's chest before she could notice. Menchi replied to the chairman with a "No. I'm sorry, sir, but I snapped when a candidate insulted Gourmet Hunters. And I'm afraid I made the exam harder than necessary." Ferev however thought to himself "No, you really didn't"Netero then replied with "I see, but it seems you're aware that this exam was completely unacceptable." Menchi bowed her head slightly with her eyes closed while saying "Yes. It's just that I get so emotional when food is involved. I'm not suited for this position." Menchi then opened her eyes and said in a determined voice "So, I must resign as examiner. Please let them retake the Second Phase." Netero replied solemnly "Sadly, I can't Imagine where we'd begin to find an examiner on such short notice." Menchi bowed slightly while saying "My deepest apologies, sir." Netero however, raised his left hands index finger while saying "Hold on, I have an idea. You continue serving as examiner, but you yourself must participate alongside this year's applicant's, in completing whatever challenge you chose." he said while lowering his hand and closing his eyes. Menchi gasped not believing she would get a second chance. "Well, what do you say? Sound reasonable? Surely that would make the applicants more comfortable with the results." Netero asked Menchi, Menchi herself had her eyes closed as she replied "I suppose your right. And I have just the thing for the new challenge." she then opened her eyes before saying "We'll all be making boiled eggs! Chairman, since I see you brought your airship, would you mind taking us all to Split Mountain?" Netero replied with "Split Mountain? Oh, I see. Yes, of course!"

Soon all 50 applicants were on a cliffside overlooking a deep chasm. As all 50 applicants stared down into the dark abyss Menchi spoke up "This is it. Take a look at what's down there." The applicants looked down even further and found what looked like giant spiderwebs stretched across the entire ravine. One random applicant asked "What is that?" Menchi simply replied "A spider-eagles web." Gon after hearing that asked "They built their webs way down there?" suddenly an updraft so strong came out of the ravine that it blew Todo onto his butte. Menchi continued by saying "Look past the web to what's underneath." Killua Knew exactly what was down there and said "Hey, those are-" but he was cut off by Menchi who stated "Those are the spider-eagle eggs." The Chairman also added in his two-cents "Spider-eagles build their webs in deep ravines like this one. It helps keep their eggs from predators. That's what makes these eggs one the most difficult ingredients to obtain. Also, the eggs are commonly known as 'Dream eggs'." While still on the ground Todo now realized what exactly they were hunting for and spoke up "Hey, wait a minute. Do you mean-" he was cut off by Menchi who said "You bet I do." Menchi than approached the cliffside and jumped down towards the web, she grabbed on to one of the nearest web strands with both hands before doing a back-flip to slow her momentum before grabbing the same strand again. All the applicants save a select few all gasped in terror at what they might have to do to pass.

As Menchi continued to hold onto the webbing Netero approached Ferev who was standing by himself watching Menchi perform the challenge. Netero stood next him on his right and glanced at him from the corner of his left eye while his right eye was closed. After a few seconds he said while closing his eyes "I suppose you don't need to participate in this challenge. I mean, after all, Menchi did pass you." Ferev looked at Netero in shock for a second before turning to face him and bowed in respect while saying "Thank you sir." Netero just waved his hand saying "No thanks are necessary. you earned it after all." suddenly Ferev heard all the applicants gasp and looked down to see Menchi had let go of the webbing and grabbed a dream egg while falling, and she continued to fall until the fog in the ravine blocked her from view. Soon though a huge updraft came up thru the ravine and Menchi along with it. She appeared to be floating in mid-air while spread eagle and holding onto the dream egg. Killua seeing this had a look of excitement before saying "That looks so fun." Netero who had moved behind the other applicants began to explain "This ravine has updrafts that are crucial to the spider-eagle. Once they hatch, the wind currents help guide their new born chicks as they fly up to safety." Menchi than landed gracefully in the middle of the crowd while saying "There! Now I just need to boil it an I'll be set!"

As Menchi was getting ready to explain the rest of the challenge Gon suddenly exclaimed "I've been waiting for something like this!" Then Gon, Leorio, Kurapika, and Killua all jumped down into the ravine each of them laughing in enjoyment before grabbing onto the same strand of webbing. Up at the top of the ravine the so-called ninja Hanzo said "Alright, I'm in" then one by one all the applicants began jumping into the ravine. Menchi looked left and right with her right hand held out trying to stop them as she said "Wait, I still haven't finished explaining everything." but it fell on deaf ears, Soon the ravine was filled with applicants all hanging on webbing. One foolish applicant thought it would be a good idea to let go and grab an egg and began to fall. As he was falling Leorio asked "What are we waiting for?" Gon replied hastily "Hold on! Don't let go yet." Leorio asked "Why? What's wrong?" Killua answered this time "No wind." the man who had let go was eyeing his egg like a trophy before he suddenly realized no updraft was coming and he began screaming in terror until he fell down past earshot. Leorio after watching the man fall to his death asked "When do you think the next one comes along?" Gon replied with "Any minute now." soon all the applicants were looking to Gon for the signal to let go. Gon himself was using his superior sense of smell to his advantage and sniffing the air waiting for slightest change in smell. However, as Gon was sniffing the webbing holding their group began to break "Oh, crap! What the...?" Leorio said slightly scared "It appears the web isn't strong enough to support all this weight." Kurapika said also slightly scared at their predicament. Killua looked over to Gon and asked "Gon, can we go yet?"

Gon just remained silent concentrating on the smell in the air. Three other applicants panicked and let go, one of them saying "Damn! I can't wait any longer." The three applicants screamed in terror as they fell to their deaths. The webbing holding Gon and the others nearly came off the wall with Leorio screaming "It's about to snap!" Gon's eyes suddenly snapped open and he screamed "Okay, now!" he then let go of the web followed by the others. Soon all the remaining applicants followed their example and jumped while grabbing dream eggs along the way down. Soon all the applicants disappeared in to the fog of the ravine before a huge updraft came bringing all the applicants up and all their eggs intact. Netero chuckled at the site while Menchi looked towards a group of applicants who chickened out of the challenge, one of them being Todo and said "What about you guys? I'm guessing you quit?" the applicants and Todo just either looked down or away from the examiner to embarrassed to even look her in the eye.

About an hour later a giant pot was put over an open fire and all the dream eggs that were grabbed were being boiled and soon eaten by the applicants who grabbed them. The so-called ninja Hanzo couldn't help but comment on the taste "Unbelievable! This is way better than what they sell in the store." he said with his mouth full. Ferev had been standing near the airship with his arms crossed waiting for everyone to finish their eggs and get on with the Hunters Exam. However, Menchi walked over to where Ferev was standing and held out a half-peeled dream egg waiting to be bitten into. Ferev looked puzzled as he stared at the egg and asked "Why? I didn't even participate in the Challenge." Menchi just shrugged her shoulders and closed her eyes while saying "Eh, consider it thanks for serving me something edible, and besides you earned it." repeating what Netero had told him earlier. However, a group of eight applicants overheard Menchi and they all glared at Ferev. One of them a tall lanky man with spiky orange hair in all directions, a purple long-sleeve shirt, with brown pants, black boots and two daggers at his side growled while looking towards the other 7 and said "Hey, let's show that guy what being a Hunter really means, Once he's alone on the airship." all the men around him agreed and snickered evilly. Ferev himself took the egg and bowed his head slightly in thanks. He then brought the egg to his mouth and took a bite. His eyes widened at the taste at first but then he lowered his head and his hair shadowed his face as a joyful but painful memory came to the surface.

Flashback: Meteor City 17 years ago

A young Ferev could be seen sitting on a bench made from an old desk laughing while biting into a half-eaten dream egg. his hair was buzzed and he had on a black tank top, white karate Gi pants with a black rope belt, and on his feet, he wore black slipper shoes. Next to Ferev was a huge muscular man who was also holding a half-eaten dream egg while saying with a sigh " ahhhh nothing like a dream egg after a hard days training." the man's hair was brown and cut short that reached to the back of his neck, he had bushy eyebrows with sky blue eyes beneath them and a chiseled face, his upper body and arms could be seen through his sleeveless dark blue karate Gi and all you could see was pure muscle, he wore bandages around his wrists, he also wore matching pants, Unlike Ferev however he chose to wear brown boots. The young Ferev smiled with yolk on his face saying "right! Master. I always enjoy these after training treats." The large man then said with a smile "Your training is coming along smoothly Ferev, soon you will have a grasp at what your ability can really do." Ferev smiled up at his master and said "Right! Of course, master. I'll keep working hard." However, the large man's caring gaze hardened as he stood up and looked towards the entrance to their make shift training ground they had built out of junk from the city. Two tall figures could be seen walking towards them one taller than the other. Ferev's master dropped his dream egg on the ground where it lay forgotten as he began walking towards the two figures. Ferev concerned because of his master's quick change in attitude put his egg down and was about to follow him when suddenly his master spoke in the most stern voice he had ever heard his master use with him "Ferev! Stay here and no matter what you see, don't interfere." Ferevs master than resumed his walk towards the two figures who had stopped just short of the entrance to the training ground. Ferev watched in worry as his master approached the two figures and all he could see from his position was that they had a brief exchange of words before the smaller of the two figures stood to the side while the taller one of the two figures attacked his master.

Split Mountain Second Phase Exam Site 2: Present Day

A lone tear slid down the left side of Ferev's face as he remembered that day, he then took another bite out of the dream egg chewing slowly to savor the taste as long as possible. He continued to make every bite last just to hang on to that moment of joy he once felt. When he got to the last bite, he stared at it for the longest time before shoving it in his mouth and another lone tear escaping from his eye. Soon Netero announced for all the applicants who passed to board the air ship because it was going to take them to third Phase. Ferev's gaze hardened after a few minutes and he turned quickly around towards the ramp of the airship he actually moved so fast it made his coat flutter a little. "Master, don't you worry, I'm almost towards my goal." with that last thought Ferev boarded the airship waiting to be taken the next phase.
