"Jace! Come on, we're late." Clary yelled, grumpily, sitting on the bed.
"That's not my fault." Jace protested, joining her.
"It very much is. You were the one that jumped me in the shower, and don't think I've forgiven you for having sex with me with an egg on your head last night."
"You didn't seem to care about the egg then."
"Because I hadn't found the raw egg smashed on the pillow and I didn't have to clean it up and be late back then." Clary glared at him.
"Hey, I helped you clean!"
"Whatever, now let's go, come on." Clary huffed.
Jace sulked behind her, "It's not my fault you-"
"Which one of us is pregnant?"
"You can't use that as an excuse for everything." Jace replied indignantly.
"Watch me."
"Speaking of pregnant, are you going to tell them today?"
Clary hesitated, "If I tell them about the baby, I'll have to tell them about him, and I don't think I can do that just yet."
"Well, I'll support you no matter what. If you decide to tell, I'll be right there with you," he pulled her to him, so that her head was on his chest and she was leaning against him.
"I love you, Jace," she faced him and buried her head in his neck, inhaling his scent.
"I love you too. Both of you," he put his hand on her still-small stomach. Clary hadn't expected him to be like this, she had thought he would hate the child because of... Well, because of him. But Jace had already expressed so much love for him, or her, more than Clary, to be honest. Clary was still a little scared, scared of being a mother. But she knew that Jace would be there to help her.
"Now come on," she pulled him up from the bed, "We have to go."
"So, we're meeting them at the institute?" Clary asked Jace.
"Yep," Jace said.
"Well, we're almost there then."
"No almost, we're here." Jace looked in front of him.
"I'm so happy you arranged this." Clary smiled at him.
"Umm, about that. I have to tell you something. They don't know we're coming..." Jace scratched the back of his neck, looking sheepish.
"What? You told me they had invited us! I'm assuming they don't know I'm back either, then."
"Not exactly."
Clary sighed, "Alright."
"Alright? I expected more of a fight."
"Shut up, Jace Herondale." Clary narrowed her eyes. If looks could kill...
Jace held his hands up, "Okay, okay. Anyways, we're here. So let's go." He muttered something under his breath, which sounded suspiciously like 'damn mood swings'...
"Wait, how do you know if they're even there?"
"I have my ways," he winked.
Clary huffed and stomped forward, punching Jace's arm.
"Ouch," Jace whined.
"Don't be such a baby." Clary smirked.
"I'm not," he poked his tongue out at her.
"Yes, you're being real mature," she scoffed.
They entered the institute, and almost immediately were attacked by Church. Jace shrieked while Clary started cooing. They walked into the kitchen and saw Izzy and Simon standing there, facing away from there. They turned around when they heard footsteps, and their jaws dropped at what they saw.
"Clary?" Simon whispered, disbelievingly.
"Simon," she then decided to drop the pretence and ran forward to hug him.
"Clary," he said, hugging her back just as fiercely.
After a minute or two they broke apart, and Clary could see that Jace was trying very hard not to glare at Simon. Clary looked at Izzy awkwardly, and offered a shy wave.
"Clary," Izzy said, in a surprisingly cold voice, "Nice to see that you finally decided to turn up."
"Izzy," Jace said when he saw the hurt look on Clary's face, "There's no need to be so rude."
"I think there is. She broke your heart, she left you. I don't know how you can forgive her, but I definitely can't. She thinks she can just come back and we'll greet her with open arms? I don't think so. So, what brought along this sudden change of heart, Clary? Did all your little boy toys get bored of you?"
Clary reeled back, hurt, "I-"
"Isabelle!" Jace cut her off, "What the fuck do you think you're doing? You can't talk to her like that!"
"I can do whatever the fuck I want!" Isabelle raised her voice, causing Alec and Magnus to burst into the room.
"Now, what's going- Clarissa!" Magnus walked forward and hugged Clary, getting glitter all over her.
"Magnus," She wiped underneath her eyes, brushing her tears away.
"Hey Clary," Alec smiled sincerely.
"Hey Alec," she smiled back timidly, giving him a slightly awkward hug.
Isabelle was still glaring at Clary from the corner of the room, intriguing Alec and Magnus.
"Now, what are you moping about," Alec asked her.
"I just can't believe all of you can forgive her so easily. You know what happened to Jace after she left."
"I'm sure there's a perfectly reasonable explanation for everything," Magnus said firmly, "Isn't there, biscuit? And you also know how badly she was hurting. After everything with Jonathan, and you know.."
"What happened with Jonathan didn't only affect her. It affected all of us." Isabelle said, stubbornly.
"But it hurt her most. He was her brother, Isabelle. And then Jocelyn and Luke.." Magnus trailed off, "You should at least let her explain."
Isabelle turned to face Clary, "Alright, explain."
"She doesn't have to do anything if she doesn't want to." Jace said.
"It's okay, I'll tell them." Clary and Jace silently communicated with their eyes over whether Clary would tell them all of it, or just part of it. They came to a decision, "Okay. So, after my mother and Luke died, I-I was scared. I was scared I would hurt Jace too, just like I had hurt almost everyone I loved. So I went. I left Jace a note and ran. I never intended for him to get hurt. I just wanted to protect him," She took a deep breath, getting herself ready for the next part. She felt Jace squeezing her hand and she gave him a small smile, "I met a guy. I thought he was a mundane. I moved in with him and... He started getting violent. He was a werewolf, you see. I couldn't overpower him. He started coming home drunk and hitting me. It wasn't so bad at first, but then one day, H-he r-he raped me." Audible gasps were heard all around the room. Magnus looked sad, Alec looked shocked, Simon looked furious and Isabelle had burst into tears, "So I ran away. I ran away and ended up at Jace's flat. We... made up and spent the next few days... happily. Then on my birthday, Jace insisted I go to the hospital, since I had been feeling ill for a while. I was informed that I was pregnant, seven weeks at that time. You must realise by now, that there was obviously something wrong, as did we. I only came to Jace two weeks ago, so how was I seven weeks pregnant? Well, take a guess. And now here I am, pregnant with his child."
A glass shattered on the floor, sending pieces flying around the room, broken...
