ACT 1 (SCENE SET 3)

INT. BAU CONFERENCE ROOM - Scene 3.1

START SCENE

Hotch stood at the helm of the table, waiting for the rest of the shaken up team to sit. When they had, he updated them on JJ. What they didn't know however, was that he was about to lie to them.

Hotch: Ok, I know everybody is worried about JJ. I am, too. But the initial report from the paramedics was that she's going to be ok. Out of the field for a while- but ok

The entire team let out a breath. Hotch felt conflicted about lying to the team. They needed to focus, and if they knew JJ was in critical condition in the O.R.

Hotch: Right now, we need to figure out where Ivei is. Garcia, give us a rundown of that rap sheet

Garcia: Ok, right bringing it up now. [PAUSE] Wait, hold on - earlier, i found our neighborhood hitman's lengthy crime record-but- now I can't access any information on it. At all.

Garcia began to get frustrated, slamming her keyboard in the hopes it would re-appear. But it was futile. Whoever was keeping her out, was damn good at doing it and left not a trace.

Hotch: What?

Garcia: It's like one minute it was all there and now it's gone- like he never existed. Did he backhack me? Is he capable of doing that?

Morgan: Nothing in his profile indicates him having that level of technical knowledge. Burner phone ciphers, sure- but hacking Garcia? No, this guy's not capable of this.

Rossi: Canmore?

Reid: He was dumb enough to leave print outs detailing his crimes in his office where his aide could find them. He's not behind this.

Morgan: Then who?

INT. BAU CONFERENCE ROOM - DAY - Scene 3.2

START SCENE

Garcia continues to aggressively type on her computer

Garcia: No, no (pause, exasperated sigh) Guys, I'm getting nowhere. Whoever doesn't want us to see this is good, like really good- like me good.

At this moment, Strauss opens the door to the conference room and walked in, arms crossed

Strauss: I need you all to stop looking into this case.

Garcia: Stop looking in- Strauss, all due respect, but-but this guy shot JJ- we have to

Strauss, uncharacteristically empathetic: I know.

Hotch: Erin, first you wanted us all over this case- now-

Strauss: It's not coming from me.

She frowns and exits the room.

Reid: Why would the Bureau not want us investigating the guy who murdered a Senator?

Morgan: You guys, if the Bureau wants us to butt out and someone was able to get into Garcia's system-

Reid: The Bureau is the one back-hacking Garcia?

Garcia: No, no- if it was the Bureau I'd be able to get right back in- I know all their tricks because the only person capable of hacking me from inside the Bureau is me.

Hotch: Could it be Kevin?

Garcia: I'd see markers if it was Kevin. It's not Kevin. You guys, this case must be big.

Prentiss bit her lower lip and stood up, ready to exit. She had an idea

Hotch: Prentiss?

Prentiss: I- I have a thought, I'm going to make a call

Hotch: Ok. Make it quick

Prentiss: Understood.

Prentiss slipped out the door, pulling her phone out. The scene ends on the closing door

INT. STORAGE CLOSET IN BAU HALLWAY - Scene 3.3

START SCENE

Emily stood in the closet and dialed a number she'd memorized a long time ago. She drew out a long shaky breath before pressing the call, growing more and more anxious with every ring as she waited for Clyde to answer the phone.

Clyde Easter (inside a jet) : Em, Hey- what's up? Are you ok?

Prentiss: Um, I'm fine. Clyde- I need to ask. Is Interpol blocking an investigation into Derrick Daniel Ivei?

Clyde Easter, sighing: You're on that unit?

Prentiss: Yeah, I am. Clyde- what's going on?

Clyde Easter : You need to drop this case, Prentiss

Prentiss: You know I can't do that. He assassinated a senator! He shot [emphasis on "shot", then hesitation] He shot a federal agent! One of ours!

Clyde Easter : I know you. I know I can't stop you, Em. But you need to know- once you open this can of worms, (pauses) I don't know if I can close it

Prentiss: Clyde-

Clyde Easter : Goodbye, Emily

He ends the call and Prentiss drops the phone down, dumbfounded that Clyde hung up on her. She scoffs and puts her phone away. The scene ends on her slipping back out of the closet.

END SCENE INT. BAU CONFERENCE ROOM - 3.4 START SCENE

Emily walked back into the BAU conference room, where the team was sitting, waiting eagerly for her to tell them if she'd found anything. Almost as soon as she crossed the threshold, Hotch barked a question at her.

Hotch: Prentiss, did your call produce anything useful

Prentiss: Yeah It did. I know who's blocking Garcia

Hotch gestures for Prentiss to continue

Prentiss: Interpol. I don't know why- but it's them

Rossi: Interpol? Prentiss, how the hell do you know that?

Prentiss hesitated- could she tell them? Tell them that her backstory of being a pencil pushing FBI field office agent for the past decade was a load of bull? Could she tell them that she was an ex-CIA operative, who'd worked on the most classified and secretive international operations ever?

That she'd- she couldn't. She couldn't tell them that the Emily Prentiss they knew was almost as much of a lie as Lauren Reynolds was.

Hotch: Prentiss?

Prentiss: Just a friend.

Morgan: What kind of friends do you have that know who Interpol is hacking?

Prentiss chuckled.

Prentiss: It doesn't matter- what matters is this guy shot JJ, he killed three people and now he's loose. We're finding him.

The scene ends on Prentiss pursing her lips

INT. GARCIA'S LAIR - 3.5

START SCENE

Garcia hurried into her office and then into her chair, beginning to type even before she fully sat down.

Garcia: Ok, ok now that i know who's hacking me, I can try a few work arounds,[hesitates] but it'll take a while and it's definitely pushing on the boundaries of legal.

Hotch, looking over Garcia's shoulder: Do it.

Garcia nodded and started typing

Garcia: Sir, you should probably leave. Plausible Deniability and all that.

Hotch: It's ok. If one of us goes down for this, we all do.

The scene ends on Hotch, peering over Garcia's shoulder

END SCENE

INT. BAU CONFERENCE ROOM - 3.6

START SCENE

The team sat at the table, tensions running high. They were about to risk their careers, and of course, they would do it without a second thought for JJ, but that didn't mean they didn't feel the heat.

Hotch: Morgan, Prentiss- go back to Ivei's apartment and tear. It. apart. I want to know the brand of toilet paper he uses and what thread count his sheets are.

Prentiss and Morgan nod, and rush out of the room

Hotch: Rossi and I will wait for the inevitable pushback we're going to get from Strauss in a few minutes when Interpol realizes Garcia's hacked them. Reid, go help Garcia hack Interpol.

Reid left, leaving Rossi and Hotch alone in the room, standing

INT./EXT. MORGAN AND PRENTISS' SUV - 3.7

START SCENE

Morgan was seriously still baffled by what was going on. How the hell did Prentiss have a contact at Interpol? Why didn't she share this in other cases before when an international connection was possible?

Why did she barely explain it now? He contemplated this as he drove the pair to Ivei's apartment. Eventually, he decided to ask her.

Morgan, glancing over at her before putting his eyes back on the road: Ok, you're going to need to tell me how you know what's going on at Interpol

Prentiss: I told you, just a friend

Morgan: Well, fine then, stay a locked box. I'll just have to find a key

Prentiss, laughing: Your lines won't work on me, I'm not Garcia.

Morgan, jokingly: Yeah, Yeah.

The scene ends on the two smiling, but Morgan is still suspicious of her

END SCENE

INT. GARCIA'S LAIR - 3.8

START SCENE

Reid spins around in a chair besides Garcia.

Reid: I don't know why Hotch sent me in here, Hacking international government agencies is not quite something I'm familiar with.

Garcia: Oh, Reid, there are many things at which you are genius, but in this area it is true, you are a mere mortal compared to my magnificent talents. Sit back, relax, and watch while I commit several felonies all in the name of justice.

Garcia continues typing

Garcia: Oh-Oh my. I'm in. Reid, I'm in!

Reid shoots up out of the chair and stands behind her

Garcia: Quick, Quick, help me print all these before they lock me out again

Papers start flying off the printer, Reid grabs them and Garcia types furiously. The scene ends
