ACT 3 - Scene Set 5

INT. BAU CONFERENCE ROOM - Scene 5.1

START SCENE

As cliche as it is, the tension in the room was so thick, you could cut it with a knife. Strauss' face was fuming red and she paced in front of the team, looking ready to pull out the gun she hadn't fired in 20 years and execute them.

Strauss: This unit has yet again [emphasis on "again"] shown a blatant disregard for protocol, procedure, and quite frankly, common sense. You all are on thin ice with the Director, and frankly I'm with him. Get it together, BAU

Strauss shook her head, turned on her heel, and left.

Hotch, addressing the group: Ok. You've all heard Strauss. If anyone wants to walk out, do. But I'm not quitting until this man is behind bars.

Nobody left

Hotch: Good. Morgan, Prentiss, anything?

Prentiss: We found a partial.

Hotch: Have Garcia run it through VICAP

Garcia, walking in the conference room with Reid, the two of them holding the stacks of files they managed to print before Interpol's firewalls were thrown up: Have Garcia run what through VICAP?

Prentiss: I, uh, found a partial.

Garcia nodded, and she and Reid placed the files on the table. She became typing on her laptop to see if she got any hits

Morgan: The place was empty- he's a pro.

Reid: The files we got definitely confirm that. This guy is on everyone's radar. He's the top suspect in a series of political assassinations in the Middle East, Europe, Asia and Africa.

Rossi: And now, the U.S.

Reid nodded grimly

Morgan: So is there stuff we can use in that small forest you printed?

Reid: Honestly, not much. It's mostly communications between agencies about him-but the language is coded and it doesn't seem like anyone has actual information on him-no record of family, education- they're not even 100% sure of his country of origin.

Rossi: So basically, we have nothing?

Emily knew she knew the missing piece of the puzzle. The debate raged over in her head over what to do. She knew Ivei had done work with Ian numerous times- she'd never met him herself when she was under, but she'd heard chatter when Ian thought she wasn't listening or asleep.

There was only one place his organization had any ties to in the US. They had ties there too. It was the first place they'd met, the first place she'd shook his hand and later that night, the first place she'd ever kissed an international terrorist in an alleyway. Boston.

Prentiss: Boston.

Hotch: What?

Emily had to come up with a reason she knew that- and fast.

Prentiss: Um, there's a sizable professional crime scene in Boston

Rossi: There's sizable professional crime scenes in every major city-Why Boston?

Prentiss: It's just an idea. I know there's a place in Boston that we could at least get info from.

Hotch: Where?

Prentiss: A bar. The Black Shamrock. But- [she paused] we can't walk in there as gun-toting FBI agents. No one will talk to us if we do.

She thought about the smell of cigars and whiskey that characterized the smokey dive bar. She thought of the ratty Fahey and men like him that frequented the bar. She thought of Ian's calloused hands shaking hers.

Morgan: So what do we do?

Rossi: We fish. Ask like we're looking to get involved- not catch him

Hotch nodded. Prentiss was thankful he supported her idea without asking too many questions. Keeping them out of the loop, but solving the case simultaneously was going to be hard.

Hotch: At least it's a lead. Let's do it. Wheels up in 30

INT. ON THE JET - Scene 5.2

START SCENE

The team sat around the jet in various seats. Tensions were high. They were all risking their careers and they were going to Boston on the sole notion that Prentiss had a hunch. But it was all they had.

Hotch: We'll enter the bar in shifts. Prentiss- you said you know the bar. How? What kind of people will have information

Prentiss: Irish. Anyone who sounds like they wish the Peace Accord didn't happen

Rossi: So this bar- It's an IRA relic then?

Prentiss nods

Hotch: So the goal will be to suss out who's a part of the organized crime scene and who's just there to drink.

Rossi: Since you seem to know so much about it, Why don't you go first Prentiss?

Prentiss internally gulped- what if someone recognized her, not as FBI AGENT Prentiss, but as Lauren? How would she explain that to the team? She sighed

Prentiss: I don't know- I worked a few cases when I first joined the Bureau in the area, i could get recognized (she lied)

Morgan: Wait, I thought you worked a desk job. In St. Louis.

The rest of the team seemed to recall that as well, and confusion spread over their faces. Shit.

Morgan was confused. She'd never mentioned Boston, but suddenly she knew intimate details about a mob bar and was worried about being recognized? Who the hell was she? And why was Prentiss lying?

Prentiss, stammering: Yeah yeah. I worked in Boston, then St. Louis

She could only hope the hole-filled story was enough to convince the profilers. Hotch furrowed his brow, there was no mention of Boston in her file those few years ago when she first transferred to the BAU. Right now, he needed to get Ivei- he could worry about Prentiss' work history later.

Hotch: We'll scope the scene when we arrive and decide there, then. It's a short flight- We're about to land. Remember, no badges.

The scene ends on Hotch's face

EXT. OUTSIDE THE BLACK SHAMROCK BAR - NIGHT - Scene 5.3

START SCENE

The team stands outside of the bar, away from the cars so as to not draw attention to themselves. The parking lot was dirty, reeking of alcohol and weed, and smoke seemed to seep out of the window of the bar, terrible live music wailing from inside. Cigarette butts littered the ground, along with baggies that probably once held illegal drugs.

Morgan: Place's kinda a dump, isn't it?

Prentiss, lost in her own thoughts: Yeah, yeah it is

Hotch: Ok. Plan is get in- get information- and get back to the meeting point as quick as you can. Prentiss will go in first. When she determines there is someone who might have relevant information- she'll come out and Rossi and I'll go in. Reid and Morgan- you two stay in the-

Fahey [unseen]: Lauren?

Emily's heart stopped.
