Hope this chapter is up to y'all's satisfaction!
Avy's POV
The next day, we all prepared to go to Auradon Prep, school-wise. Carlos came in around 10:15 am and seemed surprised that we were all alert and ready for the day, each of us doing something different. Calli was reading her book, Quinn and Are were playing a video game, Colt was figuring out how the computer works while I was sparring by myself. When Carlos walked in seeing me throw kicks and punches and doing my normal routine, he seemed alarmed. I smiled inside, wondering how they all survived the Isle for 16 years! They must've never been in the back ways. He quickly schooled his face in neutralization before he asked us all to sit in the common room to work out classes.
"So, how old are you all?" I rolled my eyes to this. He already knew how old we were and besides our age was never really taken into account at the Isle School, Are spoke and said what I was thinking. Kind of.
"Our age didn't change anything at the Isle School. Whenever we first walked in is when we started. So we're all in the same grade." Carlos seemed a bit surprised (though I don't know why), and replied, "Alright then, but still, tell me your ages so I can put them on the forms." Calli answered this time.
"We're all 15." Carlos seemed slightly surprised that we were all the same age.
"When are your birthdays?" We all looked at each other, slightly concerned. Our parents never let us know exactly when our birthdays were. We just guessed them.
Quinn answered the question, more or less.
"Um, well, we think that Are's birthday August 7th, then Calli's is November 3rd, mine and Avy's is January 17th, and Colt's is February 21st. Um, that's what we think anyway." Carlos seemed surprised by this.
"Wait, so none of you know when your birthday is?" We looked at each and turned back to him shaking our heads. "Why not?" I raised my eyebrows to this.
"You know yours?" Colt asked, genuinely surprised like the rest of us. Carlos nodded still astounded. "March 27th," he said. "So...wait," Carlos shook his head. "What are those dates then?"
"We're just guessing, we've heard our parents say it once or twice, so yeah," Calli answered. "Anyway, we were freshman last year."
"Alright then. Could you tell me what subjects you were in in the Isle School?" Carlos continued.
"I had Standard History, Standard Math, Standard Science, Advanced English, then Cross Country, Trickery, and Hand-to-Hand Combat and Fencing," Are replied first.
"I had Standard History, then Standard Math, then Advanced Science, Advanced English, then Cross Country, Potions, then Hand-to-Hand Combat and Fencing," Calli said next. Colt said his schedule next.
"Advanced History, Advanced Math, Advanced Science, Advanced English, Cross Country, Healing and Medicine then Hand-to-Hand Combat and Fencing."
"Advanced History, Advanced Math, Advanced Science, Advanced English, then Cross Country, Plotting Step-By-Step, and Hand-to-Hand Combat and Fencing," Quinn answered. "Avy has Advanced History, Standard Math, Standard Science, Advanced English then Cross Country, Fitness, and Hand-to-Hand Combat and Fencing last."
After Quinn finished, Cali explained the schedule for the Isle School.
"History's first, then Math, Science, English, Cross Country, then Solo Elective, then Hand-to-Hand Combat and Fencing. The order's always the same. If we miss cases, who cares? We always skipped about half the year. They never really taught much. We got books that y'all threw away and that was our main source of education, but that's it." Carlos blinked at the statement about how many school days we missed. Are threw his hands in the air and exclaimed, "Honestly! Did you forget everything about the Isle when all y'all left 6 years ago?!" Carlos winced and we all rolled our eyes. Auradonians are all so sensitive! I thought. After a moment, he went back to check the forms.
After a moment, he announced, "Okay, the last thing is to get a doctor checkout." We all stiffened at this. Quinn forced a chuckle and asked, "Are you sure? I mean, none of us need it." Carlos nodded and insisted that it had to be done. Calli interjected saying, "What if Colt does it? He's knowledgable about it." When Carlos shook his head insisting again that a doctor must do it, I couldn't breathe. What if they all find out? What if they al see my secret? What if they pity me? Only my crew knows it. Oh gosh, I can't BREATHE! Can't breathe, can't breathe, can'tbreathecan'tbreathecan'tbreatheCAN'TBREATHE! And I could no longer focus anything except the word, NONONONONO!
No One's POV
When Quinn started to hear heavy and fast breathing, he turned to see Avy starting to freak out. He called out worriedly, "Guys...we've got a Purple3!" Everyone's heads snapped at that then snapped to attention. Calli and Colt immediately went towards Avy and Quinn (who was already sitting next to her), while Are practically shoved Carlos out the door saying that they had it all under control and that, yes, they will get the nurse if they need her. After Are shoved Carlos out the door, he locked it, then turned to the others. Quinn and Calli were on each side of her, Calli holding her hand, and Quinn rubbing circles on her back while Colt kneeled in front of her trying to draw Avy back to the present. Are sat next to Colt and grabbed Avy's other hand and held it.
"Just breathe in. And out. In. And out." After each "in", Colt paused for three seconds then said "out" and then paused for another three seconds. Gradually, Avy's breathing slowed and she relaxed. She smiled softly and muttered, "Didn't mean to." They all knew what she meant and Calli said, "You're fine. We all freaked out, you just beat the rest of us." There were humorous chuckles all around because Cal wasn't lying. NONE of them wanted to see the doctor. And for all the same reason. A secret, that on the Isle, everyone knew but never said because it was the same for them.
Their childhoods were painted on their skin and no one wanted to let another see it, whether there was a choice or not. When you have close friends though, they end up showing each other, not making a big deal out of it. Just showing themselves and their pasts while the others in the crew do the same. That's just how it was on the Isle, and it wouldn't change anytime soon.
Avy's POV
Anyway, after we all had a moment to calm down and get our bearings, we discussed what to do.
"We should say that we'll only go to school if Colt checks us and nobody else," Are suggested.
"They won't believe us! They'll just force us to do what they want," Calli argued.
"We'll force 'em to then," Are argued back.
"Why don't we just talk to Ben and ask what he thinks," Quinn suggested. We all turned to each other and nodded, accepting the idea.
"We goin' there or he comin' here?" Colt wondered.
"We'll go there. Haven't seen much of this place yet," Are decided. As we all got up to leave, Quinn turned towards me.
"You're stayin' here," he commanded. I raised an eyebrow as if saying, You're kiddin'. He didn't waver. I crossed my arms, leaned on my left leg with a calm yet determined look.
"No," I stated. He glared at me and crossed his arms.
"Yes, you are".
"Nope."
"Yes."
"Naddah."
"Yes."
"Noit."
"Yes!"
"Nah."
"Yes!"
"Don't fancy it." And with that, he exploded.
"Yes, you are! You just had a panic attack! You're not strong enough to move around yet!" Then he closed his eyes and acted as if he tellin' himself that he was an idiot! Because, at the moment, he was. When he said I wasn't strong enough, I stiffened and tensed. He delivered a blow that he knew I wasn't gonna back down on. No one calls me weak. Not even my brother, because I'm not. With a growl, I said, "I'm coming." Then I left the room before he did. He gave up as soon as he commented on my strength. He knows that as soon as someone tries to tell me how strong I am, that person ends up walking home in pain, severely regretting their words. But since he's my brother, and seemed to have given himself a sound scolding, I let him off the hook. But I was gone show him that nothing can hold me down. Not even my fears.
Hope y'all enjoyed that piece! Hope this next chapter is as satisfying or more if you didn't enjoy it as much. Anyway, hope all y'all are safe and having a good summer, or as good as a summer you can have during this time of peril.
I was watching a High School Musical 2 video song yesterday called, What Time Is It? and I saw in the comment that someone changed the lyrics to fit this time. I started laughing so hard because A) it was awesome B) it was hilarious and C) it was so true!
Anyway, I hope y'all are trying your very best to not rip off your family members' heads after 4-ish months in quarantine. There are times where I seriously have to restrain myself. Kidding, but kinda not. ...
