Here's the next part! Hope the fact that I'm updating multiple times in one day puts me back in your good books... Enjoy!
Avy's POV
The next day was our first day at Auradon Prep High. To say everyone's excited isn't a correct assumption. To say everyone but me? Now that's right.
Are was wondering how far he could push the teachers. Calli was figuring out which outfit she'll look best in. Quinn was excited about learning more about woodworking and Colt was already thinking about what units we'll earn this year. Everyone knew what they're supposed to do though.
Do not bring attention to yourself
and
Always, always, watch each other's backs.
But there was a decent amount of excitement in the condo this morning when we headed out. I sighed inwardly. Today was going to be eventful.
Avy's POV: Later On: Period 7: Cross Country
We were all in our Cross Country Class stretching together when I saw a boy with golden-brown hair walk over. Are and Quinn stiffened next to me but didn't do anything else.
"Hey, I'm Damen. I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello." He didn't receive an answer and awkwardly cleared his throat.
"Um, if you want to receive a good grade and to work too hard you can always slow down when you get tired." He was met with 4 different faces displaying different emotions. Quinn was looking at him in confusion, Are disapproval, Colt horror, and Calli disinterest. But I didn't allow any emotions to cross my face.
He sure is gonna be surprised when he sees us, I smirked inwardly.
"Why would we want to do that?" Quinn asked. Damen shrugged.
"I just wanted to be nice." Before the three boys could explode, Calli said,
"Thanks, but we'll be fine." Damen just nodded his head a bit confusedly, then walked back to his spot in the front.
"Ready knights?" The coach shouted.
"YES!" everyone except us yelled back.
"On your mark, ready, set, run!" And we took off. Even though the 5 of us were in the back, it took us less than 15 seconds to pass 'em all. When we passed them, we all let out a chuckle at their disbelief and kept running.
We dodged rocks, tree stumps, and roots on the run. I was in the front, Are and Quinn were neck 'n' neck, then Calli and Colt side by side, but we were all within 5 feet of each other, tight-knit.
When I saw a low branch hanging low up in front, I let a grin slip out and ran to meet it. grabbed it, flipped around it, and swung myself forward, still in front of everyone. I let out a breathless laugh and Quinn shook his head at my antics.
"Seriously, Avy? You're such a show-off!"
"Not my fault you can't keep up bro!" I teased back. "Besides that was nothing, check this out!" I ran forward to the next branch, swung myself to stand on top of it and grabbed the next high branch, and flipped on the way down.
"See? It's not even that hard! I bet even you could do it!"
"I hate you," he grumbled causing a laugh to come from everyone else. Quinn turned to Are and raised his eyebrows at him.
"What are you laughing at? I bet you couldn't do that either!" Are grinned and replied,
"Nope, but we all know that Are can do anything she sets out to do. You?" Are shrugged. "Meh."
"Meh? Meh?!" Quinn called out, outraged. "How dare you!"
"It's true, isn't though?" Are cut him off before Quinn could beat him up. "or else you could do all that?" There was no answer.
"Fine," Quinn mumbled. Are grinned, but wanted to mess with Quinn a bit more.
"What was that?"
"Fine! You win," Are's eyebrows rose in mock shock.
"Did you hear that? Did you heart that?! Quinn Faeye, one of the most stubborn VKs ever, just admitted that I won! Did you hear that?"
"I sure did!" I grinned. Like Are, I love to mess with my brother. It's one of my favorite pastimes.
"it's shocking, isn't it? When Quinn Faeye admits defeat?"
"Wait, has this happened to you before?" Calli joined in.
"Oh yes, several times in fact."
"Oh, c'mon Avy. You can't just leave off there! Give us the deets girlie!" Are whined. Calli rolled her eyes and responded,
"You are such a child Are!"
"Am not!" he protested.
"Am too!" she shot back.
"Am not!"
"Am too!"
"Not!"
"Too!"
"Not!"
"Too!"
"Not!"
"Too!"
"No-"
"For the love of Maleficent, shut up!" Colt groaned. I hid a smile. While Are is the oldest and Colt the youngest, they switch ages pretty much 24/7.
Colt is the most serious one in our group though he has the most experience in the sarcasm department. Are is just a child and acted like one most of the time unless someone threatens or hurts us.
Calli and Quinn were in the middle while I can be extremely on one side or the other. But that's just what it is. It can definitely get exhausting at times and cause loud violent outbursts as well.
There was this one time where Quinn and Are were arguing about which pet was better; Mr. Demon Dude the Cat that Are found as a kitten, injured or Madam Fearsome Feline that Quinn found as a kitten about to kill him in an alleyway. Anyway, they got so passionate about it that they launched themselves at each other and started wrestling. It took Calli, Colt, and me to pry them apart, and even then we struggled to keep the two apart. They had bruises and a split lip on themselves. They got but now you never mention which one's better or else somethin' may break whether it'll be an object or a person is questionable. That's our group.
Back to the present, we saw where we were supposed to stop and finish a couple yards away and within 8 seconds, we were done. Not even winded we sat down on the bleachers and the ground waiting for everyone else.
"So...any trouble yet?" Are asked after a minute of silence. We all groaned.
"Thanks a lot Are! You just jinxed us!" Calli scolded. Are opened his mouth to protest then realized she may be right so he gave an apologetic grin to the rest of us.
"Oh, it was bound to happen anyway, y'all. But I've been fine so far. There were some curious glances, but nothing that would enrage the she-beast." Colt shot me a grin with the last statement. I rolled my eyes.
"Dolion deserved it. Nobody respected him and he was a jerk."
"People ended up respecting him even less when you beat him unconscious under 15 seconds," Quinn added.
"10 actually," Are corrected. I looked at him with my eyebrows raised. "What? I made a bet with Weylyn. He said 15, I said 10. I won, obviously." I laughed softly. The two of them would bet on almost anything.
"Well you can't expect much from him partly because Dolion's a son of Kaa whose a sniveling coward," Cal inputted. We all nodded to that when I realized something.
"Are, didn't I beat Weylyn when I was the Champion of the Arena?" He laughed and nodded.
"I think that was 4 years ago? His dad, the Big Bad Wolf wanted his son to beat you. Needless to say, he lost." I nodded.
"I remember that. He wasn't great, but he wasn't bad either. There's a ton of kids-" "-and adults," Quinn added. "who's like that," I continued. after Quinn butted in. Are laughed again.
"Yeah. He told me that he was never gonna fight against you again or else he's gonna dive into the ocean." I shook my head at the boy's antics and I noticed the rest of the class finishing.
"Hey, they're back!" Calli whispered to the rest of us and the boys snorted while I just smirked with Calli.
"Hey, you 5! New kids!" we heard the coach call out. We looked over to see the coach shocked.
"Yes Coach?" Quinn answered for s.
"How did you all finish a 5 mile run in less than 10 minutes yet it took the rest of my team almost 20?" he demanded. I quirked an eyebrow. By running faster than them? I thought, mentally adding a duh! to the end of it.
"Um, by running faster than them?" Are answered with a question mark at the end. I smirked. Coach rolled his eyes.
"Yes, yes. I know that but what made the 5 of you go faster than any cross-country or track team I've coached?" he questioned. We all slightly stiffened as memories of running from things came to the surface.
"Run! Run like the sniveling little baby cowardly child you are! Run until you get a stone-cold exterior that nothing can break through!" my mother shouted at me when I ran before she could hurt me when I was 5.
I shook my head inwardly to get rid of that memory and I saw the others do the same of their own. Colt shrugged in response to the coach's question.
"We run a lot, I guess," he answers. The coach looked at us, squinted his eyes, and then let out a sigh.
"Well since the 5 of you can run faster than any person I know, how would you feel about being on the cross-country or track team?" he asked and was responded with disbelieved huffs, shrugs, and raised eyebrows.
"Well?" he asked after a moment. We blinked at him.
"Wait, you mean it?" Calli asked surprised. Coach furrowed his brows and replied,
"Of course I mean it. I wouldn't have suggested it if I didn't!"
"Oh," she replied, not knowing what to say. None of us do.
"How about if you decide you want to join then come by the track. The try-out is in two days so make up your minds by then," he informed and walked back to where the rest of the class was.
"So, what should we do?" Colt asked. "Should we join or not?"
"I don't know. There's also tourney, but..." Are drifted off.
"Jay and Carlos were on that," Quinn finished. Calli and I had a silent conversation with each other before she turned to them.
"Well, you can do both," she suggested.
"True," Are admitted. "But is this too many things at once? I thought we were gonna ease into this place. I dunno it just seems like we're rushing a bit."
"Maybe," Quinn contemplated. He turned to Calli and I and asked. "What about you two? They don't let girls play tourney here, so what will y'all do?"
"Their loss," Calli shrugged off. "I'll probably see if they have a book club or cooking club, I'll take track or cross country if all y'all will." Quinn nodded absent-mindedly and turned to me. "What about you A?" I shrugged.
"Dunno. Probably see if they have another Arena around here," I let out a lazy grin with my last statement. Quinn's eyes narrowed.
"One, they don't have one here and thank evil for that, and two, even if there was you most certainly would not," Quinn responded, tensely. I rolled my eyes. He clearly couldn't see I was just joking.
"Relax, Q. I was just joking. Don't be s stiff." Quinn let out a disbelieving laugh to which I narrowed my own eyes to.
"Joking? Stiff? Avy, that is not something you joke about for it is not even remotely funny. You nearly died there, on multiple occasions."
"Yes, I know that," I replied through gritted teeth, trying not to explode through tensed muscles.
"Uh, y'all need to-" Are tried to say before Quinn interrupted.
"Why would you even joke about that Avy? That place was run by a nightmare and is made of hundreds of 'em. It's just so stupid that you think-"
"That what?" I exploded. "That I think it's okay to joke about? THat I could ever try to live outside of the hold it has on me? Of course, it's not funny, Quinn! I know that! Heck, no one knows it better than me! You've only seen me in the ring a few times. I've been in the ring for hundreds of fights. Most likely more! I have to joke about it or else I have to take it seriously. And I can't take it seriously or at least not too much or else I have to admit that that place could be my death. It still could be, so relax on the reprimanding fit Quinn Arche. 'Cause I can do it enough on my own."
And with that, I stood up and left to head to my next class.
Well, that got really tense at the end! Hope you enjoyed this chapter! I'll write again soon!
