The Glimpse

"It's time we meet the lucky duelist who are selected to compete for the chance to go head to head with mr. Atlas, the fortune eight!" was heard by the duelist before the hanger doors above them opened up and they were lifted onto the stage.

Inferno looked the same as always even as the cloaked figure beside him gave an evil chuckle towards the little girl that wouldn't shut up.

"Now let's hear it for the always mysterious Shira! The great Greiger! …. Inferno! The Professor! Miss Akiza Izinski! Sir Randsborg! The lovely Miss Luna! And Yusei Fudo!"

While the crowd started whispering among themselves the competitors sized each other up. Inferno could hear Luna and Yusei talking and was aware that a certain rose glared at him. With a turn of his head he looked at Akiza and not seen by anyone, he smirked. He remembered her, she was one of his more challenging opponents in the underground ring, but she ended up like all the others, burned.

"I have to say something." a voice said that made everyone focus on Greiger, "My name is Greiger. I know things are different in this city, but where I come from you judge a guy on his spirit." he then pointed at Yusei before continuing. "This kid right here may have been branded by your people as a no-good, but when I look at him all I see is a fellow duelist. And being a duelist myself that means I have to respect him until he gives me a reason not to, because a duelist doesn't judge another duelist based on where he comes from or whose family he is or how much money he has. That isn't what really matters." His speech was met by applause and another speech by goodwin.

Inferno ignored most of what was happening around him until the brackets settled.

'Let's see Luna vs Greiger, Yusei vs Shira, Randsborg vs Akiza, and myself vs Frank. Should be an easy first win, and after that I get to duel Akiza again.'

"Now I must ask our duelist to make their way towards the waiting room and for our first round duelist to ready their decks and be back in fifteen minutes. Tata!" and with that they were lowered again and made their way towards the room as asked.

Once in the room everyone went to doing their own thing from talking (Yusei and Luna), drinking (Akiza), to sitting and waiting (Greiger, shira, and Randsborg), or going through their deck (Inferno and Frank). And before they knew it the first round started.

Looking up, Inferno noted Luna's life points go down. "Hmm, morphtronics vs reactors? Normally the morphtronics would win, but Greiger has skill and if he has the Delta Reactor trap then I see him winning." he said, getting the attention of Yusei.

"What do you mean?"

He looked at Yusei and nodded "That card can summon out Flying Fortress Skyfire, and by that point I fear that Luna will lose that turn if she can't save her life points from falling." he finished before going back to the duel, and was not surprised to find his prediction to be correct.

He didn't move as Yusei left, nor did he when the next match started as he believed the knight wannabe wasn't even worth dueling Akiza. Though he did chuckle at Greigers question.

'Is it over? Why yes it is. over for him that is.'

Looking at the time he left to get lunch and was almost run over by someone on a runner being chased by security.

"Was that Hunter?" he said, sounding amused. "He never changes, does he Saiko?"

He didn't get back to the stadium until the end of Yusei's duel and paused to see Hunter on the field laughing and talking to Yusei.

"Never change Hunter, for if you do I might have to duel you for making her cry."

"And now will our next duelist make their way to the field for the final match of the day."

Five Minutes Later

"And now entering the arena is the underground legendary master of fire, Inferno!" as he was lifted into the arena he could hear the crowd cheer.

'I wonder how many people here actually know what I've done.'

"And his opponent, the dean of the deck, the brain of the game, the Professor!"

When his opponent came out of the smoke he bowed "A pleasure to meet one such as yourself Inferno."

"Quit your niceties and stand up. I'm here to duel, not to have a therapy session." Inferno quickly replied.

"And now let's get ready to duel!"

"LET'S DUEL!"

Inferno: 4000 - Professor: 4000

"I go first, draw." started Inferno before tilting his head and proceeding, "I summon Volcanic Blaster in defence mode."

Volcanic Blaster- level 3/ FIRE/ ATK: 1200/ DEF: 600

"Next I'll set one card facedown and end my turn."

"Very well, I draw. I summon Symmetry Rorschach in attack mode."

Symmetry Rorschach- level 3/ LIGHT/ ATK: 1200/ DEF: 1200

"Now then my monster will attack your Blaster." the Professor's monster took on the appearance of Volcanic Blaster before its head transformed and it roared, destroying Volcanic Blaster.

But that didn't stop Inferno as he sent blaster to the graveyard he started talking, "Now then my monster's effect activates allowing me to pick one volcanic monster in my deck and put it on top of my deck, and I choose Volcanic Rocket."

"Well, my Rorschach's ability activates allowing me to see the top card of your deck, but we both know what it is so I'll end there."

Inferno: 4000 - Professor: 4000

"Draw, I summon Volcanic Rocket in attack mode and when he's summoned I can add one blaze accelerator card from my deck to my hand, and I'll add Blaze Accelerator to my hand."

Volcanic Rocket- level 4/ FIRE/ ATK: 1900/ DEF: 1400

"Now then I activate Blaze Accelerator, next I'll tribute my Blaze Accelerator to activate Tri-Blaze Accelerator. Now then I activate my trap card Blaze Accelerator Reload." By the end of Inferno's spree he had two cards on the field that might as well have been the same card.

"Now I activate my continuous trap and by discarding my Volcanic Shell I can draw one card. Next I activate Tri-blaze Accelerator by discarding my Volcanic Scattershot. I can destroy one monster on the field and deal you five hundred points of damage.'' As he does this an image of his discarded monster appeared by his spell card before being launched toward Symmetry Rorschach and destroying it while an explosion happened that also engulfed the professor.

Inferno: 4000 - Professor: 3500

"Now then when Volcanic Scattershot is sent to the graveyard he deals you five hundred points of damage, but that's not all. If he is sent to the graveyard by the effect of a blaze accelerator card he can send another two copies of himself to the grave from my deck or hand. Meaning you take fifteen hundred points of damage!" he says before three copies of scattershot load into his spell card and fire at his opponent before exploding.

Inferno: 4000 - Professor: 2000

"And with that I end my turn."

"I draw." Professor Frank was looking like he was expecting more, but simply shook his head before sealing his fate. "I end"

"Are you giving up? Well then I draw." Inferno looked at the card he drew and had to resist a laugh. "Now then I'll tribute my Tri-Blaze Accelerator to special summon Volcanic Doomfire!" his spell card shattered into pixels only for those pixels to form a giant creature made of fire, magma, and rock.

Volcanic Doomfire- level 8/ FIRE/ ATK: 3000/ DEF: 1800

"And now my doomfire will attack you directly! Volcanic Cannon!" and with one final stream of fire the duel ended

Inferno: 4000 - Professor: 0

WINNER: Inferno

Inferno looked at his opponent in silence before turning, "Next time don't hold back and I might take you seriously." and walking away.

"Wait, how did you" was all he heard before the door closed behind him.

'That should be the last duel of the day, time to go home.'

As he left the stadium he noticed storm clouds rolling in.

"I hate the rain." he said as it down poured on him, "It reminds me of that day, the day the news came"

And without another word he continued until he was at the edge of the city and stood before a small building opening the door he placed his duel disk on the coffee table before heading to his bedroom and opening a picture book to show a smaller version of himself without his mask and a girl just a little older than him with orange hair put into pigtails and blue eyes wearing a obelisk blue uniform.

In the picture they were smiling at the camera in front of a dueling arena and the date for eight years ago in the corner.

"I'll never give up on you Saiko, I know you're still out there."

With that he put the book back before turning out his light and putting his mask on the night stand. If someone was in the room with him they would have sworn that even in the darkness they could see a tear fall down his face.

End

Well that was an interesting turn of events. As you can see I took out Commander Koda and put in Inferno, this means the next chapter is Akiza vs Inferno! We also see a hint of his backstory towards the end (for reference Inferno is 22 right now in the story meaning in the picture he was 14 and the girl would be 16).

There is something I should have done last chapter, but due to not thinking I didn't so let's get to it.
